FLOG IT!

Hi Lotje! Thanks for your thanks!

Yes, it was quite a surprise to me to discover that on the Paul Martin / Flog It! Pages there were no illustrations in particular of Paul Martin. While it may just be popular culture, it’s still been around for what 17 years and watched daily by a couple of million people. Nearly everybody in the UK must have watched an episode at some point in time!

I don't know how interested in the subject you are or not, but one mystery I could not get to the bottom of was the date of the last recording day and how many episodes they had in hand at that point?

The BBC official Flog It! Facebook page describes a recording at Dover on 8 Feb 2018, then nothing. But an entry for Blackburn Museum and Art Gallery describes a recording around 15 March 2018. But I can find nothing in between. IMDb just petters out. Also somewhere I read that at the end of recording they had some 60 new shows in hand! Have they all been shown? Most daily shows are repeats.

If you could find anything else that would be good and I think worth putting in the Article?

Cheers ArchaicW (talk) 11:27, 6 May 2020 (UTC)

@ArchaicW: Wish I could help you with more information. If I come across something, I'll give you a buzz. Lotje (talk) 13:17, 6 May 2020 (UTC)

Hi Lotje, hope you might remember me, ArchaicW, we were in touch a few weeks ago. Lotje, I've been working on an article about an English country house, Fonthill Splendens, the home of William Beckford. I thought I had put it up as a draft, but somehow, it's got directly onto Mainspace! Do you think you could move it to being a Draft, as it's not really complete. I've got illustrations to add etc before asking for it to be Reviewed. If you could move it now, I would be very grateful. Thank you so much ArchaicW (talk) 18:34, 26 May 2020 (UTC)

Hi Lotje, sorry to bother you earlier - I worked out what to do and have been able to move the article back to Draft:Fonthill Splendens. I'll perhaps ask you to have a look at it in a few days when it's more complete. Thanks, sorry to bother you now ArchaicW (talk) 21:51, 26 May 2020 (UTC)

) 05:57, 27 May 2020 (UTC)

Hi, Lotje, thanks, sorry for all the bother yesterday. I got it sorted and moved the Article back to Draft. I do think that Wikipedia can be quite complicated - well, you work out after a while how to do something, then you don't need it for a few months and you've forgotten completely how you did it! Anyway, glad you had a look at the Draft, and many thanks for the links to the two images. As you would have seen, I still have a bit of tidying up to do. Regrding the images, I've actually been to Fonthill and have some very good photos of that marvellous gateway! I was going to put one up for the Article, and I'll let you know when it's there. The other one I didn't know about, but I think it actually relates more to Fonthill Abbey than Fonthill Splendens. If you are interested in the whole William Beckford thing, there is a remarkable book FOC online. Its one I referenced in the Article, 'Fonthill Recovered' and you can download the whole book here: https://www.uclpress.co.uk/collections/area-studies-1/products/88271 Amazing Many thanks Ross ArchaicW (talk) 14:13, 27 May 2020 (UTC)

Articles for Creation: List of reviewers by subject notice

Hi Lotje, you are receiving this notice because you are listed as an active Articles for Creation reviewer.

Recently a list of reviewers by area of expertise was created. This notice is being sent out to alert you to the existence of that list, and to encourage you to add your name to it. If you or other reviewers come across articles in the queue where an acceptance/decline hinges on specialist knowledge, this list should serve to facilitate contact with a fellow reviewer.

To end on a positive note, the backlog has dropped below 1,500, so thanks for all of the hard work some of you have been putting into the AfC process!

Sent to all Articles for Creation reviewers as a one-time notice. To opt-out of all massmessage mailings, you may add Category:Wikipedians who opt out of message delivery to your user talk page. Regards, Sam-2727 (talk)

FONTHILL SPLENDENS

Hi Lotje, Thought you might like to see my photo of the wonderful gateway at Fonthill: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Fonthill_-_north_gateway_to_estate.jpg I took the photo longer ago than I thought, but it's still pretty good! I've got a couple of plans to add to the Draft Article - they are Public Domain, being over 200 years old, but they still apparently need reviewed. Ross ArchaicW (talk) 19:47, 29 May 2020 (UTC)

@ArchaicW: maybe this could be of interest. I am considering creating a category on commons. Is that a good idea iyo? Lotje (talk) 04:18, 30 May 2020 (UTC)

Hi Lotje, you're a step ahead of me now! These two images, the elevation and plan of Fonthill Splendends, are the ones I've put up to go in the Draft Article. I was waiting for them to be reviewed, which I see you have done, thank you very much. I'll now go ahead and put the three images in the Draft.

Re having a Category for Fonthill Splendens images, I've been wondering about this. There is actually a Category just for Fonthill, with hundreds of photos in it! But there's a problem - half of them relate to a house in the USA! Really they ought to be subdivided into 'Fonthill Wiltshire' and 'Fonthill USA', but a lot of work!

So, suggest your idea of a separate Fonthill Splendens category is a good one, we leave it at that and maybe some other images will be added. Many thanks Ross ArchaicW (talk) 11:03, 30 May 2020 (UTC)

Hi Lotje You've been at work! Thanks very much for the various edits and tidying up that you have done - much appreciated. Illustrations in particlar seem to do strange things when I try to move them! I think I've now done as much as I can to the article. Would you think I could now move it to Review? (If I can remember how to do it!) Can you review it yourself, or does it need to be looked at by someone else? Many thanks for your help Ross ArchaicW (talk) 17:17, 30 May 2020 (UTC)

@ArchaicW: since Theroadislong is interested in architecture, you might ask him to take a closer look. :-) Lotje (talk) 09:36, 31 May 2020 (UTC)

Hi Lotje, morning, thanks, that's a very good idea. I know 'Theroadislong', in fact he approved my previous two articles. Not sure if you know him personally so to speak, or saw that he had been involved in my previous articles? I hadn't thought to contact him, as it's ages since I was in touch with him. It seems to take me a long time to find subjects that I think are relevant, then even longer to write an article! I'll contact him and ask him to look at the draft. Yet again, many thanks for your help. Ross ArchaicW (talk) 11:09, 31 May 2020 (UTC)

You are most welcome. :-) Lotje (talk) 11:15, 31 May 2020 (UTC)

Dear Lotje Many thanks for contacting 'Theroadislong' re the Draft article. He's left a comment and sounds very positive. I've managed to put the correct AfC thing up on the article. However, when I was writing to 'Theroadislong', I just copied and pasted the 'Submit' box to let him know what I'd done - and it's put the whole thing on his Talk page! Very embarrassing. Thanks for the page with the list of specialist reviewers - that is very helpful and I've bookmarked it. Best wishes Ross ArchaicW (talk) 14:26, 31 May 2020 (UTC)

Glad I could be of help. Lotje (talk) 14:29, 31 May 2020 (UTC)

Hi Lotje Just wanted to say thank you very much for your help on this article. Very pleased that 'Theroadislong' moved it up. I've just been having a look at it and I think I might make a couple of small changes - the floor plan image is perhaps a little too small now, and the James Lees-Milne quote I might expand - it looks a bit prominent all on its own! Anyway, thanks very much - I'll be in touch if I think of anything else to write about in the future! Ross ArchaicW (talk) 11:49, 1 June 2020 (UTC)

@ArchaicW: congrats with the article, keep going, don't be shy :-) Lotje (talk) 11:54, 1 June 2020 (UTC)

Editing news 2020 #3

On 16 March 2020, the 50 millionth edit was made using the visual editor on desktop.

Seven years ago this week, the Editing team made the visual editor available by default to all logged-in editors using the desktop site at the English Wikipedia. Here's what happened since its introduction:

  • The 50 millionth edit using the visual editor on desktop was made this year. More than 10 million edits have been made here at the English Wikipedia.
  • More than 2 million new articles have been created in the visual editor. More than 600,000 of these new articles were created during 2019.
  • Almost 5 million edits on the mobile site have been made with the visual editor. Most of these edits have been made since the Editing team started improving the mobile visual editor in 2018.
  • The proportion of all edits made using the visual editor has been increasing every year.
  • Editors have made more than 7 million edits in the 2017 wikitext editor, including starting 600,000 new articles in it. The 2017 wikitext editor is VisualEditor's built-in wikitext mode. You can enable it in your preferences.
  • On 17 November 2019, the first edit from outer space was made in the mobile visual editor.
  • In 2019, 35% of the edits by newcomers, and half of their first edits, were made using the visual editor. This percentage has been increasing every year since the tool became available.

Reply tool

The number of comments posted with the Reply Tool from March through June 2020. People used the Reply Tool to post over 7,400 comments with the tool.

The Reply tool has been available as a Beta Feature at the Arabic, Dutch, French and Hungarian Wikipedias since 31 March 2020. The first analysis showed positive results.

  • More than 300 editors used the Reply tool at these four Wikipedias. They posted more than 7,400 replies during the study period.
  • Of the people who posted a comment with the Reply tool, about 70% of them used the tool multiple times. About 60% of them used it on multiple days.
  • Comments from Wikipedia editors are positive. ("I think the tool has a significant impact; it saves time to reply while the classic way is to move with a mouse to the Edit link to edit the section or the page which is generally far away from the comment. And the user reaches to the edit box so quickly to use the Reply tool.")[1]

The Editing team released the Reply tool as a Beta Feature at eight other Wikipedias in early August. Those Wikipedias are in the Chinese, Czech, Georgian, Serbian, Sorani Kurdish, Swedish, Catalan, and Korean languages. If you would like to use the Reply tool at your wiki, please tell User talk:Whatamidoing (WMF).

The Reply tool is still in active development. Per request from the Dutch Wikipedia and other editors, you will be able to customize the edit summary. (The default edit summary is "Reply".) A "ping" feature is available in the Reply tool's visual editing mode. This feature searches for usernames. Per request from the Arabic Wikipedia, each wiki will be able to set its own preferred symbol for pinging editors. Per request from editors at the Japanese and Hungarian Wikipedias, each wiki can define a preferred signature prefix in the page MediaWiki:Discussiontools-signature-prefix. For example, some languages omit spaces before signatures. Other communities want to add a dash or a non-breaking space.

New requirements for user signatures

  • The new requirements for custom user signatures began on 6 July 2020. If you try to create a custom signature that does not meet the requirements, you will get an error message.
  • Existing custom signatures that do not meet the new requirements will be unaffected temporarily. Eventually, all custom signatures will need to meet the new requirements. You can check your signature and see lists of active editors whose custom signatures need to be corrected. Volunteers have been contacting editors who need to change their custom signatures. If you need to change your custom signature, then please read the help page.

Next: New discussion tool

Next, the team will be working on a tool for quickly and easily starting a new discussion section to a talk page. To follow the development of this new tool, please put the New Discussion Tool project page on your watchlist.

Charlotte (1784 ship)

Hi Lotje, when you changed my cites to Lloyd's Register in the article, you changed the result from going to the actual page to going to the front page of the book. With your form of cite the reader would then have to search through the book to find the vessel's listing. Note, because this is an old book with low-quality printing, the OCR-based search engine often fails. To find the vessel one has to scroll through to the names, with a new vessel one possibly has to look in two places. The cite form I had uses the page's URL and so takes you to the page, or within a page or two of it. That's why I include in my cites something like "Seq.No.C17" so one can scroll to the actual line. Please don't change any more; the changes make the situation for someone checking the cite worse, not better. Cheers, Acad Ronin (talk) 11:50, 29 September 2020 (UTC)

Thank you Acad Ronin. Wondering if you would give your opinion on the bare urls in that article. I would prefer having ReFill go through it. Thank you for your time. Lotje (talk) 14:23, 29 September 2020 (UTC)
Hi Lotje, I looked at the New Zealand Company ships and all the references to Lloyd's Register are crap. All cite the volumes, but without any url to the volume, let alone the page. If you can run something that would link to the volumes, I could from time to time go in and replace those cites with cites to the correct page. Does that seem a reasonable approach? Cheers, Acad Ronin (talk) 15:28, 29 September 2020 (UTC)
I think I will have a word (ahum) with ReFill . If in your opinion the result is not satisfactory, just undo my edit. Thnks. Lotje (talk) 15:31, 29 September 2020 (UTC)
1) I only looked at the Lloyd's cites and there replacing them with a cite to the book, with url, would be an improvement. It would do what is currently being done, but with a URL that would at least get the interested into the volume. From there I could, in time, replace with cites that go to the page. That would mean unleashing ReFill first. 2) I have just looked at your two most recent implementations and I see no reason to worry, though those were not cites/refs I had anything to do with. My verdict would be "Sound on anything I know nothing about." Cheers, Acad Ronin (talk) 20:36, 29 September 2020 (UTC)

Frisia Landscape & Geography

Greetings Lotje,

Thank you for 'thanking' me for joining Frisia wiki site, which was welcoming and nice!

Can you speak Frisian? Can you write in Frisian?

I am interested to attempt to learn some Frisian speaking and listening.

In America, Los Angeles, California, where I live, but I was born in Amsterdam, I am still connected Frisia in a distant way. My first language in America was not English, but Nederlands. As I began to learn English, first speaking English, then reading and writing in English, I continued to listen to Nederlands, as my parents spoke to me in Nederlands, as did my Grandparents, aunts and uncles.

I wish to mention that I have been to Texel one time, circa 2000, for a few hours, and felt drawn to visit as I like islands and seashores, but I was only there for a few hours.

Peace, 'Roy' Robert Jan van de Hoek (talk) 16:11, 4 October 2020 (UTC)

No, talk, unfortunately I do not speak Frisian (though I understand some words), but as yourselves, I am keen on learning. As a matter of fact, I mentioned your name to Drewes. Lotje (talk) 16:17, 4 October 2020 (UTC)
There is also a wiktionary, if that is helpful to you. Lotje (talk) 16:20, 4 October 2020 (UTC)

Google Purchase links?

Hi, Lotje. I came across the Edward Southey Joynes article today when correcting some Virginia politician articles. I notices it has google play links to various books, but only one is actually now available, less than a couple of months after your check for dead links. This man died in 1917, before the cutoff date for U.S. copyrights (long 1923), so I was surprised to find the 3 links as purchase only. I don't claim to be a copyright expert and of course the Library of Congress is closed to the public because of Covid. I remember seeing a few articles several months ago where Amazon links were removed for much newer books because they were only for purchase, and I think the rationale was that such violated some wikipedia policy? Do you know anything about that? Thanks.Jweaver28 (talk) 21:12, 12 October 2020 (UTC)

Hi Lotje Apologies for not being in touch for a long while, hope you are OK and busy. Lotje, I've been doing a bit of work on Invergarry Castle, a minor but very interetsing Scottish Castle. I've put some images up on Wikimedia Commons, but as usual I find all the copyright stuff very confusing! Could you look at these and see if they are OK and can be 'passed'? They are under Category: Invergarry Castle. One is a survey drawing by General Petit from 1714. It comes from the National Library of Scotland, who allow use on a CC-BY licence with acknowledgement. The other are two pages from an old book, MacGibbon & Ross from 1889. If you could have a look at these I'd be very grateful Best wishes ArchaicW (talk) 13:33, 18 November 2020 (UTC)

@ArchaicW:, I'm fine, just fine, thank you for asking. How are you doing? Going through the files on commons, I noticed there is a Lewis Petit des Etans on wikidata: (Lewis Petit (Q56430830) and Lewis Petit (Q18576637)). Now that,... is rather confusing to me. The Lewis Petit (Q18576637) should be deleted I guess. I did some linking to Lewis Petit des Etans to which I'll see if I can add some more images. Wondering if this file would fit in the Commons:Category:The castellated and domestic architecture of Scotland, from the twelfth to the eighteenth century (1887) (The date on the file reads 1889) or if it should be added to Commons:Category:MacGibbon and Ross. I can hardly believe there would (still) be copyright on those images. Lotje (talk) 15:25, 18 November 2020 (UTC)

Hi Lotje Thanks for looking at these images. I'm going to put the 'Petit' plan on the Invergarry page with some extra text, I hope tomorrow. Yes, odd that there are two 'Petit' pages, but I wouldn't know the difference! Yes, you are quite right, the MacGibbon & Ross two pages should be linked to the MacG&Ross 'Category' page - I've looked through it and Invergarry does not show up. Anyway, MacG&Ross book definitely long out of copyright. All five volumes are on the Internet Archive and Volume 3 is shown as 1889. I'm getting on OK, thanks, but this Covid business is very trying. Let's hope a vaccine really is on the way. Best wishes Ross ArchaicW (talk) 18:29, 18 November 2020 (UTC)

Hi Lotje

Just thought I would write and wish you a Happy New Year! Nothing new to report, few weeks now since I added quite a lot to the Invergarry Castle page, and it seems to be OK. Got a minor project to add some photos to another page, but progress slow! ArchaicW (talk) 17:14, 3 January 2021 (UTC)

Reply tool

Graph of Reply tool and full-page wikitext edit completion rates
Completion rates for comments made with the Reply tool and full-page wikitext editing. Details and limitations are in this report.

The Reply tool is available at most other Wikipedias.

  • The Reply tool has been deployed as an opt-out preference to all editors at the Arabic, Czech, and Hungarian Wikipedias.
  • It is also available as a Beta Feature at almost all Wikipedias except for the English, Russian, and German-language Wikipedias. If it is not available at your wiki, you can request it by following these simple instructions.

Research notes:

  • As of January 2021, more than 3,500 editors have used the Reply tool to post about 70,000 comments.
  • There is preliminary data from the Arabic, Czech, and Hungarian Wikipedia on the Reply tool. Junior Contributors who use the Reply tool are more likely to publish the comments that they start writing than those who use full-page wikitext editing.[2]
  • The Editing and Parsing teams have significantly reduced the number of edits that affect other parts of the page. About 0.3% of edits did this during the last month.[3] Some of the remaining changes are automatic corrections for Special:LintErrors.
  • A/B test will start soon.[4] This is part of the process to offer the Reply tool to everyone. During this test, half of all editors at 24 Wikipedias (not including the English Wikipedia) will have the Reply tool automatically enabled, and half will not. Editors at those Wikipeedias can still turn it on or off for their own accounts in Special:Preferences
    .

New discussion tool

Screenshot of version 1.0 of the New Discussion Tool prototype.

The new tool for starting new discussions (new sections) will join the Discussion tools in Special:Preferences#mw-prefsection-betafeatures at the end of January. You can try the tool for yourself.[5] You can leave feedback in this thread or on the talk page.

Next: Notifications

During Talk pages consultation 2019, editors said that it should be easier to know about new activity in conversations they are interested in. The Notifications project is just beginning. What would help you become aware of new comments? What's working with the current system? Which pages at your wiki should the team look at? Please post your advice at mw:Talk:Talk pages project/Notifications.

Hello Lotje, I've removed a picture of Christian de Dadelsen from the Wikidata page for his uncle Jean-Paul de Dadelsen, because it erroneously also found its way onto the French wiki page about him. Refill and nonfunctional links

Hi there, just wanted to let you know I encountered some anomalies with ReFill on URLs that don't work such as the journal in this diff and the census in that diff. Because the URLs were broken, the program erroneously filled over the title of the journal and author, leaving me very confused when I saw the citation of a login page! In the second case, it seemed to pick an entirely new website describing the Kazakhstan Statistics Bureau. I've since been able to track down the original works but just thought I should let you know about these dead-URL anomalies for future reference. Thanks! You don't have to tediously edit the draft

I was going to fix everything starting around now but if the red tags are attracting attention a better solution would be to put a comment start tag at the first error and a comment end tag at the last. The ref ref tags are where there was no CTBUH reference so I cut out all but one inferior reference except for the empty tags to show at a glance which ones in the part of the list that was copied still need a CTBUH reference. The character soup is the result of making a text editor find all the frequent character strings that are only found in inferior references and replacing with nothing to blank them. This and the manual pruning up to about 850 feet greatly moderated how much editing that section was fucking up my weak smartphone when it was most of 236.4 KB. I also have much other work to do besides fixing the red tags so maybe let me do that, I'll do it in my sandbox instead if that's better. P.S. you might've overlooked something in the comments but you broke the numbering system with a lot of changes, it won't number the rows right if you do that. 4 SA Infantry baboon

Hi Lotje, yes Ive heard of baboon mascots of the South Africans in WW1. Corporal Jackie was the most well known. He was apparently at 3rd SA Infantry, not the 4th, but he was apparently . I would love more context on where and when the photo was taken? I'm assuming this is Corporal Jackie. There was also a springbok mascot for 1st SA Infantry. The 4th also had a springbok called Nancy. https://www.tommy1418.com/mascots.html https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Corporal_Jackie

PAUL MARTIN (Flog It!) I'm just wondering if there is any etiquette on Wikipedia? A few weeks ago, I was looking up Paul Martin and was surprised to find that there was no photograph of him on his entry. It then took me considerable time and trouble to find a good image of him that could be used under a CC licence. There are loads of pictures of him on the internet, but nearly all 'commercial', so no possibility of a licence. I found this very good picture of him on Flickr but it was an 'all rights reserved' copyright. I then got into a dialogue with the chap who took the photograph (and that took some doing!) and he agreed to give it a CC licence. I put the picture up yesterday, intending today to edit it into the Paul Martin entry - to find that you had been there before me and had already uploaded it! Have you just been sitting waiting for a pic of Paul to appear? It could hardly have escaped your notice that the picture was being uploaded by a third party, ie, me. Why would I be doing that if I wasn't intending to put the picture on the Martin entry? It would have been polite to leave it to me. ArchaicW (talk) 19:04, 20 April 2020 (UTC)

@ArchaicW: (what's in a name) Sorry if you feel angry about me having added the image to the article. It was not my intention to hurt your feelings. Next time, I suggest you insert it in Paul Martin (Q7152232) where I replaced the image by yours.

Hello,
it took me some time too to understand several things about Wikidata, and I still have so much to learn about it before hoping to begin to master its subtilities… however I’m not sure to understand what you wanted to report exactly… all I know is there no need to merge the two Qitems, as I mentionned below your Wikidata report. Draft:Yūto Suzuki

Hello, and thank you for your contribution to Draft:Yūto Suzuki. I'm not sure what you meant to imply by 'self promotion' - are you suggesting that I (who created the draft) am him? If that is the case, I assure you I am neither him nor am I affiliated with him in any way. I noticed him in the credits to several games I was working on pages for, and saw his list of credentials, which led me to wondering why there wasn't already an article about him on the English Wikipedia. I started to translate his body of work from the Japanese Wiki page, but frankly, don't have enough interest in the subject to put much more effort into it. I can tell that the English Wikipedia has a community of editors who are very committed to writing quality articles about similarly prolific voice actors, so I requested it be moved to draftspace (rather than my personal sandbox) so that others could find it and help bring it up to quality. • Wikimedia previously used the IRC network Freenode. However, due to changes over who controlled the network with reports of a forceful takeover by several ex-staff members, the Wikimedia IRC Group Contacts decided to move to the new Libera Chat network. Junior contributors comment completion rate across all participating Wikipedias
When newcomers had the Reply tool and tried to post on a talk page, they were more successful at posting a comment. (Source)

Earlier this year, the Editing team ran a large study of the Reply Tool. The main goal was to find out whether the Reply Tool helped newer editors communicate on wiki. The second goal was to see whether the comments that newer editors made using the tool needed to be reverted more frequently than comments newer editors made with the existing wikitext page editor.

The key results were:

  • Newer editors who had automatic ("default on") access to the Reply tool were more likely to post a comment on a talk page.
  • The comments that newer editors made with the Reply Tool were also less likely to be reverted than the comments that newer editors made with page editing.

These results give the Editing team confidence that the tool is helpful.

Looking ahead

The team is planning to make the Reply tool available to everyone as an opt-out preference in the coming months. This has already happened at the Arabic, Czech, and Hungarian Wikipedias.

The next step is to resolve a technical challenge. Then, they will deploy the Reply tool first to the Wikipedias that participated in the study. After that, they will deploy it, in stages, to the other Wikipedias and all WMF-hosted wikis.

You can turn on "Discussion Tools" in Beta Features now. After you get the Reply tool, you can change your preferences at any time in Special:Preferences#mw-prefsection-editing-discussion.

This currently details allowing administrators, checkusers, stewards and those with a new usergroup to view the full IP address of unregistered users. Editors with at least 500 edits and an account over a year old will be able to see all but the end of the IP address in the proposal. The ability to see the IP addresses hidden behind the mask would be dependent on agreeing to not share the parts of the IP address they can see with those who do not have access to the same information. Accessing part of or the full IP address of a masked editor would also be logged. Comments on the draft are being welcomed at the talk page.

Wikipedia Wars and the Israel-Palestine conflict...please fill out my survey?

Hello :) I am writing my MA dissertation on Wikipedia Wars and the Israel-Palestine conflict, and I noticed that you have contributed to those pages. My dissertation will look at the process of collaborative knowledge production on the Israel-Palestine conflict, and the effect it has on bias in the articles. This will involve understanding the profiles and motivations of editors, contention/controversy and dispute resolution in the talk pages, and bias in the final article.

For more information, you can check out my meta-wiki research page or my user page, where I will be posting my findings when I am done.

I would greatly appreciate if you could take 5 minutes to fill out this quick survey before 8 August 2021.

Participation in this survey is entirely voluntary and anonymous. There are no foreseeable risks nor benefits to you associated with this project.

Thanks so much,

reFill must be carefully checked every time

And you also replaced 8 nbl.com.au page links that had valid titles with ones that had, effectively, no titles at all, for example,

[http://www.nbl.com.au/featured-news/randle-lisch-headline-all-nbl-teams/ RANDLE, LISCH HEADLINE ALL-NBL TEAMS]

with the effectively untitled

{{Cite web|url=https://nbl.com.au/featured-news/randle-lisch-headline-all-nbl-teams/|title=National Basketball League | NBL|website=nbl.com.au}}

The net effect was 8 stories that had unique titles before all displaying the same, viz:

"National Basketball League | NBL". nbl.com.au.

The reason these references came out so badly is they were effectively dead links at nbl.com.au. Fortunately they were all available at archive, org, and I fixed them, including in this example

{{Cite web |date=February 17, 2016 |title=Randle, Lisch headline All-NBL Teams |publisher=National Basketball League |url=https://nbl.com.au/featured-news/randle-lisch-headline-all-nbl-teams/ |url-status=dead |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20170627141640/https://nbl.com.au/featured-news/randle-lisch-headline-all-nbl-teams/ |archive-date=June 27, 2017}}

(talk page stalker) See this talk page discussion. A change was made to the template after the above edit was made. That edit fixed the problem that was causing errors. The template can safely be restored to any articles from which it was removed. – Jonesey95 (talk) 00:30, 18 February 2022 (UTC)

K0zak1991

Hi ! My name is Alexander, I'm from Ukraine. Can you help me? I created an article about a Ukrainian artist Ivan Semesyuk:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Ivan_Semesiuk

This is my first article in English Wikipedia I need help! I am looking for a Wikipedia user who could help me verify and approve this article. This is very important, because the person I wrote an article about created a project that covers for people abroad what Russia is and why it is at war with Ukraine. Thank you in advance for your help! — Preceding unsigned comment added by K0zak1991 (talkcontribs) 21:13, 10 March 2022 (UTC)

Hallo K0zak1991 I tried my best, since I do not speak Ukranian, but I must say, for your first article in English, this seems very good Lotje (talk) 07:48, 11 March 2022 (UTC)

reFill 2

In a comment to your edit you mentioned "Filled in 2 bare reference(s) with reFill 2".

As far as I understand, this is a kind of instrument, which helps to create {{Cite web}} templates. Is it? Can you tell me more about the tool? --Perohanych (talk) 19:51, 11 March 2022 (UTC)

I have found the link! Wikipedia:reFill ! --Perohanych (talk) 19:53, 11 March 2022 (UTC)

Actually, this link leads to nowhere, https://refill.toolforge.org/ng/ is the way to go. Lotje (talk) 07:14, 12 March 2022 (UTC)
