Hello Mangokeylime. It has been over six months since you last edited your

WP:AFC draft article submission, entitled "Legal Status of Coca
".

The page will shortly be deleted. If you plan on editing the page to address the issues raised when it was declined and resubmit it, simply edit the submission and remove the {{db-afc}} or {{db-g13}} code. Please note that Articles for Creation is not for indefinite hosting of material deemed unsuitable for the encyclopedia

mainspace
.

If your submission has already been deleted by the time you get there, and you want to retrieve it, copy this code: {{subst:Refund/G13|Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/Legal Status of Coca}}, paste it in the edit box at this link, click "Save page", and an administrator will in most cases undelete the submission.

Thanks for your submission to Wikipedia, and happy editing. JMHamo (talk) 16:39, 16 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not entirely sure why I, specifically, was pinged here, but having looked into the issue, I tend to agree with
Black Power movement? The article doesn't say so. The same goes for many other topics linked in that sidebar. We should give that sidebar a stronger focus on topics clearly associated with Black Power. Huon (talk) 01:23, 10 September 2015 (UTC)[reply

For clarification purposes, I had asked Huon for a second opinion over IRC. Not for a particular "reason" I would say. --JustBerry (talk) 01:28, 10 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Guys just change the sidebar, its okay, no need to message me, its your responsibility! Do whatever you wish, to be honest the only thing I knew a lot about was the ideologies.

Your article has been moved to Draft:List of left-wing movements. I don't think it is an attack page, and perhaps doesn't have POV issues either, but you should probably work on adding some references before moving it back to the mainspace. Going to talk to the concerned user as I don't think they are qualified to be patrolling. Hope this helps, happy editing! MusikAnimal talk 05:16, 4 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Mound Builders box

Do we really need that? Not only does it mess with the lede photo in most of those articles by shoving it down, "Mound builders" as a term is a leftover fantasy from the 1800s, there was no overarching "mound building" society but a bunch oftentimes unrelated cultures. Also, most of the links included in it are in collapsed navigation templates at the bottom of the pages. Heiro 02:43, 18 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Per your reply at my talk[1] (and can we keep this at one talk page, how about here?) Archaeologists and historians did not "coin the term", as I said it is a leftover from the 1800s when many thought the "mound builders" were one great civilization, and on top of that they thought they were Romans or Celts or Phoenicians or Egyptians, etc. Archaeologists and historians rarely use the term. Use of and promotion of this term perpetuates a flawed thinking about who these different cultures were and how they related to each other. It is why you do not see it used in individual articles about those cultures, but confined mostly to the article about the term. Heiro 02:54, 18 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Heironymous Rowe: What do you recommend as action? I personally just wanted to organize a box on pre-colombian civilizations in North America. Mangokeylime (talk) 03:47, 18 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
While it could be useful on the
Mound Builder page itself, since it condenses much of the material in the article to a system of links, I don't think it's appropriate to be at the top of all of the other pages for the reason outlined above. On the mound builder page the nature of the term is discussed, but having it on the other pages without explanation that it is deprecated terminology that does not accurately describe current understanding of those cultures and their relationships would give people the false impression that it is still valid terminology. Also it pretty much duplicates this Template:Pre-Columbian North America and other nav templates created for the individual mound building cultures such as Template:Mississippian and related cultures and Template:Hopewellian peoples. Heiro 04:56, 18 January 2018 (UTC)[reply
]
@Heironymous Rowe: That makes sense, I'll move the box to more relevant parts of the page rather than just the very top.
I guess I wasn't clear in my language. It is not only about its position on the page, it is that I don't think a box using deprecated terminology based on an archaic and flawed understanding of these cultures (and not explaining anywhere that it is archaic, flawed, and deprecated by professionals in the field) should be placed on any of these articles except for possibly the Mound Builders article itself and only then as a navigational aid. It's not about having it somewhere other than the top. Heiro 00:30, 19 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Heironymous Rowe: Well what do you recommend as a better way of organizing a box? In general I just was trying to make a box for Northern American civilizations.

I am unsure as to why they need one at all? A box isn't required for any of these pages. The navigation boxes at the bottom of the pages already have loads more links and information than that box could ever comfortably fit. Except for the catchall Template:Pre-Columbian North America they are all custom built for each of the mostly unrelated cultures; the Mississippian culture box alone has links to hundreds of articles. Having a box for the sake of having a big box visible on the page makes no sense to me. Heiro 03:05, 19 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

We have a template, why would we duplicate it with an infobox that might easily get out of sync with the template. If you want more input, Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Archaeology is the right place IMHO. Doug Weller talk 11:25, 19 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion of "nation" infoboxes from articles on Florida chiefdoms

Hi - It's good to see your interest in the indigenous peoples of Florida and other parts of the Southeast, but I encourage you to learn more about some of the conventions in this area of academic study. The study of ancient and historic indigenous peoples in the Americas has been increasingly well-developed. There are academic classifications and conventions about how to refer to them, in part based on documentation through archeology and/or written records. For instance, peoples who are identified through archeology are generally referred to as participating in an

archeological culture. There may be chiefdoms and groups of bands, such as the Uzita or Pohoy, but they do not comprise a nation state in any contemporary meaning of the word. It is Original Research, prohibited on Wikipedia, to make up a new way to classify them, as was done bu your "nation" infobox for these groups. Reliable Sources on these peoples, which we as editors are required to use, do not classify them as "nations" or countries. It's important to learn more to understand the context for materials and articles on the indigenous peoples. Thanks again for your enthusiasm for Wikipedia.Parkwells (talk) 16:22, 26 January 2018 (UTC)[reply

Inappropriate infoboxes, again

Per your addition of the "country" infobox to several protohistoric and early historic Native American entities pages, please do not. They were not, and are not, described in academia using the modern sense of a "country" or "state". No academic cite exists for using this term for these entities. What you are engaging is is basically

WP:OR, so please don't do it. Heiro 20:43, 14 October 2020 (UTC)[reply
]

@Heironymous Rowe: What do you recommend? I see some pages use the ethnic group infobox which I feel is inappropriate for a chiefdom. A polity isn't an ethnicity. Is there a more appropriate infobox? I don't want to imply that these societies were total nation states but they sure weren't just an ethnic group. (Also I just read our old convo, my bad for never starting that convo with other editors, I apologize).Mangokeylime (talk) 23:17, 14 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Articles do not have to have infoboxes. It's nice when we have one that fits, but it's best not to try and shoehorn one in that doesn't fit just to have one. Especially when using one breaches
WP:OR by implying something about a culture, group, ethnicity, or people that is not born out in the academic literature. I know you like adding infoboxes, I do as well (I've added more than my fair share to many many articles), I just don't feel we have one currently for this situation (or I probably would have added it myself) and I'm not sure there are enough similar articles to warrant creating one specifically for this kind of group. Heiro 00:53, 15 October 2020 (UTC)[reply
]
@Heironymous Rowe: Actually how would you feel about the government infobox? I feel it might fit best? If not I think we'll have to scrap the infoboxes on the chiefdom pages like you said.Mangokeylime (talk) 01:46, 15 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Please reread my last comment. I don't think any infoboxes describing modern concepts of nation states, territories, or countries belong there. We also do not really know enough about how these prehistoric and protohistoric groups worked to describe their "government'. You're looking to add an info box, just to add an infobox. Stop. Articles are not required to have one. We currently do not, to my knowledge, have one that is appropriate. I'm pretty sure the other knowledgeable long term editors of those article would probably agree with me. If you find one, take it to the article talkpage and ask for consensus from those other editors. Heiro 04:06, 15 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Copy within

Thanks for identifying the source of the material in your edit.

This type of edit does get picked up by Copy Patrol and a good edit summary helps to make sure we don't accidentally revert it. However, for future use, would you note the best practices wording as outlined at Wikipedia:Copying_within_Wikipedia? In particular, adding the phrase "see that page's history for attribution" helps ensure that proper attribution is preserved.

I've noticed that this guideline is not very well known, even among editors with tens of thousands of edits, so it isn't surprising that I point this out to some veteran editors, but there are some t's that need to be crossed.S Philbrick(Talk) 23:31, 17 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
