Problems with Infobox roller coaster

I've seem to be noticing spacing problems with the Infobox lately. In articles like Gulf Coaster and Backlot Stunt Coaster, the spacing is a little messed up. I'm not sure if this has to do with the Extend parameter or if there's something else wrong.--Astros4477 (talk) 02:21, 5 January 2013 (UTC)

This should all be handled by {{Infobox}} so I am not quite sure what has changed. Have you noticed any problems with the other infoboxes? Themeparkgc  Talk  22:31, 5 January 2013 (UTC)
I have not, I'll let you know if I do though.--Astros4477 (talk) 22:53, 5 January 2013 (UTC)
If it is not a problem with the other infoboxes, maybe we could change the roller coaster infobox to use parameters like location, location2 etc rather than the extend template. Themeparkgc  Talk  22:55, 5 January 2013 (UTC)

Hey, so I thought about it and I think we might as well move the operation into the wikiproject. However, I don't know where to put it so if you could tell me that would be great. Also, we should maybe have a second operation going at the same time, maybe something like getting all Epcot attraction articles to GA/FA.--Dom497 (talk) 20:29, 5 January 2013 (UTC)

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Timber Mountain Log Ride, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Hurlbut (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Wing Coaster (Intamin)?

Hey, I just noticed what you added to the top of the Wing Coaster article and I'm kinda confused how Skyrush is Intamins version of a Wing Coaster. Isn't Furios Baco their version of a Wing Coaster? I'm also confused why "Wing Coaster (Intamin)" links to Skyrush.--Dom497 (talk) 00:03, 7 January 2013 (UTC)

Newsletter

I saw Astros post on WP: AP's talk page so I came up with a rough template of what the newsletter can look like, its the old WP: Good Articles template I used to use in October so I just changed it up a bit to fit with this WP (I haven't changed the text).--Dom497 (talk) 03:16, 12 January 2013 (UTC)

Geez, I forget to post the link to the rough template. Let me know what you think.--Dom497 (talk) 17:07, 12 January 2013 (UTC)
My first thoughts are it is a bit hard to read. I like the two column layout. The heading text could be a bit bigger. If we are going with quarterly newsletters, maybe we could go
Q1/Q2/Q3/Q4 instead of the seasons as they will remain standard across the world. Do you mind if I have a play around in your sandbox? Also, do you know the reason why newsletters are collapsed? Themeparkgc  Talk
22:47, 12 January 2013 (UTC)
Sure, go right ahead! Also, that's a question I asked my self a while ago but never bothered to get an answer, I think as users come up with new templates, it seems the tend is to get rid of the collabsable part. This template was an older one from 2007 which just got updated in November so we can remove the collabsable part if we want.--Dom497 (talk) 14:21, 13 January 2013 (UTC)

Gardaland Magic Mountain

I've seen your name around on amusement park article edits where they intersect with zoos, so I have a request. I just reverted a couple of edits by a new editor (

Magic Mountain (roller coaster). I checked RCDB, and the original of the articles seems to be correct, but this is not exactly my specialty. I added a bit in the Magic Mountain article to clarify (I hope). I would appreciate it if you could take a look and make sure I didn't mess something up. Thank you. Don Lammers (talk
) 20:17, 20 January 2013 (UTC)

(talk page stalker)Double-checked RCDB, which is deemed reliable for these articles, and it looks like you did just fine. The onus would be on the editor to provide reliable proof that the steel is actually Arrow's and not Vekoma's. --McDoobAU93 20:51, 20 January 2013 (UTC)
Thanks. I appreciate the cross-check. Don Lammers (talk) 21:02, 20 January 2013 (UTC)
(talk page stalker)I can also confirm the above. The Amusement Today pre-IAAPA November 2012 issue lists every coaster designed by Ron Toomer and built by Arrow during his tenure there. The Gardaland coaster is not on that list.JlACEer (talk) 14:32, 21 January 2013 (UTC)

Can you tell me where you found online archives of Amusement Business? An archive of Amusement Business is available online through ProQuest. It can be accessed free, however, a login is required. I gained access through my local library's online catalogue which acted as a proxy through to ProQuest. You could also gain access through a similar university/college-based proxy. Hope this helps. WP:AP Unassessed Articles

I was writing the draft of the (future) WP:AP newsletter when I saw how many articles are still unassessed (1,260). I was thinking we can probably do something with that in the form of "Hey, let's assess all the articles" but I don't know if going through the collaboration page is a good idea (maybe just mention it in the newsletter? (See my sandbox to see what I mean)). I was also thinking that we could give out barnstars for users who assess a certain amount of articles but with how many articles there are, I think keeping track of who assessed what will case problems (unless we get some sort of bot to keep count :P ).--Dom497 (talk) 01:33, 29 January 2013 (UTC)

Ya I agree, I think it may be a little hard to keep track. I get confused about the assessments because there's usually an assessment for the Amusement Parks project, the Roller Coaster task force and for example the Cedar Fair task force. What's the levels on how important an attraction/roller coaster is?-- Astros4477 (Talk) 02:07, 29 January 2013 (UTC)
It would be good to assess all the articles. A while ago I did go through a couple of the task forces (can't remember which) and got everything assessed. It could be hard to keep track of who did what though. I'd say keep the barnstars for actual significant contributions to the article content. Themeparkgc  Talk  22:55, 1 February 2013 (UTC)

Re your comment in the edit summary of the page. Capitalisation is used to distinguish between the specific and the generic. If "ride" is used it refers to anything that can be described as a roller-coaster. To capitalize as "Ride" means that it refers to this particular roller-coaster, otherwise there would be confusion. I converted most of the "Batman: The Ride"s to "Ride", unless the name begins a new long para or section, or some other ride is mentioned that requires "Batman: The Ride" to be defined again. Too many "Batman: The Ride"s all over the article can look a tad clumsy and superfluous. This capitalisation of a shortening is a commonly-used device. When we write about a college, we start with the full name, after which "College" suffices to refer to the particular college of the article, and "college" to college's generally. Acabashi (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 11:15, 16 April 2013

Thanks for the explanation. I personally have never seen anything like it before. In this case though, all of the instances of the word "ride" are preceeded by "the", therefore removing any confusion that it could be any ride. Themeparkgc  Talk  06:28, 17 April 2013 (UTC)
Hi. There is further discussion on this on my talk page. I'm wondering if the article's title is the roller coaster's official name - should it be renamed something like Batman (roller coaster). Cheers. Acabashi (talk) 12:15, 20 April 2013 (UTC)

On Wikipedia all information should be supported by
original research because you performed the research yourself and there are no other published sources which support this exact stance. In the absence of published reliable evidence otherwise, we have to go with the 3:30 ride length which the park has published. Hopefully this answers your question. Themeparkgc  Talk

ACE Magazine

Are you a ACE member by any chance? There's an article in the Winter 2013 magazine that talks about how B&M only built Leviathan because they apparently felt sorry for Wonderland as they couldn't get the invert back when Paramount owned the park because they were two miles too close to Cedar Point (I'm still upset about that!!!) but before I add it to any article I would like some confirmation. If your not a member, oh well.--Dom497 (talk) 18:41, 24 May 2013 (UTC)

(talk page stalker) I'm 99.9% positive User:JlACEer is a member of ACE so I'll drop him a TB for here.-- Astros4477 (Talk) 20:10, 24 May 2013 (UTC)
What makes you think that? :) Within the article is an actual interview with the VP and general manager. And, he is quoted as saying "Look Walter, if you won't go to 300 feet you're going to lose the contract." To which Walter replied "I owe you one." and "I'll do it, I'll do the 300 feet." Note that the author of the story is also a journalist for Amusement Today and is fairly well known throughout the industry. I believe the story is accurate. I can also confirm that I had heard this story from other sources as well — but this is the only citable source I am aware of.
I didn't see anything about Wonderland being two miles too close to Cedar Point — I've never heard anything about what the actual distance was or is for exclusivity. All the article says is there was an exclusivity clause when Raptor was built for parks within a certain distance. I wouldn't mention the mileage unless you have another source to back it up.JlACEer (talk) 20:45, 24 May 2013 (UTC)
The mileage thing was mentioned by the general manager of Wonderland at a CW Mania event last year (I was running the 5km race at the park at the time so I couldn't drop in so I found out from here). I don't think this is reliable enough though...or is it? Also, to JIACer, just for the sack of the citation, what page number, issue #, volume, author, etc is this article in?--Dom497 (talk) 20:53, 24 May 2013 (UTC)

Hi Themeparkgc/2013, here are some delicious cookies to help brighten your day! Because I'm over-killing this cookie sharing thing, keep the plate to yourself! :D--Dom497 (talk) 01:04, 26 May 2013 (UTC)

Hi. I've done a copyedit on Superman: Krypton Coaster. My edits are not law; please feel free to revert anything I've done for any reason at all. If there's something that can't be dealt with by a simple revert, please contact me on my talk page. Please note that I have not checked references, reviewed for comprehensiveness or balance, or done anything besides editing copy. It would be a good idea to check the article for any errors I may have inadvertently introduced. Curly Turkey (gobble) 02:02, 28 May 2013 (UTC)

Thanks very much Curly Turkey. Themeparkgc  Talk  04:46, 28 May 2013 (UTC)
