Over the course of 2011, 680 rockets, mortars and Grad missiles were fired from the Gaza Strip into Israel.[1]
Overview and notable developments
At the very end of 2010, Palestinian Islamic Jihad stated that it and other Palestinians militant groups in the Gaza Strip would temporarily halt rocket attacks against Israel.[2] However, by 7 January, Palestinian Islamic Jihad claimed responsibility for a mortar attack that injured three agricultural workers,[3] and the group was responsible for most of the attacks on Israel in the first two weeks of the year. On 12 January, the group declared again that it would cease firing rockets.[4] Multiple, unclaimed rocket and mortar attacks occurred on 16, 17 and 18 January.
