Scottsburg is located in eastern Halifax County at 36°45′36″N 78°47′26″W / 36.76000°N 78.79056°W (36.759890, -78.790515).
According to the United States Census Bureau, Scottsburg has a total area of 0.69 square miles (1.8 km2), of which 2.3 acres (9,371 m2), or 0.52%, are water.[5] Gibson Creek, a tributary of the Banister River, flows north to south through the center of town.
