== Adminship request ==

'''Hello'''

: I have been a user on Wikipedia for a long time now. I wanted to acquire adminship to stop vandalism on particular pages that contain topics which are extremely communal in our country but are protected by extended protection. I request you to please nominate me as I gone through the Rfa guidelines and I think I am capable of being an Admin.

Thank you!

It's not a nuisance! However, there might be more efficient for us to make a system for this.
Here's an idea! I've filled up User:MJL/WV with as many of the articles you've requested infoboxes, filmographies, and images for. Feel free to add any I miss or that you also want done, and I (or anyone else) will cross out the ones we've finished (you can write [[User:MJL]] in the edit summary for me to be sure to see it). This will be easier for both of us keep track of what improvements need to be made! –MJLTalk 00:47, 11 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, MJL! I hope you have been keeping well in these times. I just got the time to edit Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Act, 2019, which you had reviewed however it had failed the GA assessment. I have added the most recent happenings around the law to the article with references. I would be grateful if you could please review the article, as I have re-nominated it for GA. I have also take into account your previous suggestions. Would be eagerly looking forward to hear from you! --Tamravidhir (talk) 18:52, 17 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Editor of the Week : nominations needed!

The Editor of the Week initiative has been recognizing editors since 2013 for their hard work and dedication. Editing Wikipedia can be disheartening and tedious at times; the weekly Editor of the Week award lets its recipients know that their positive behaviour and collaborative spirit is appreciated. The response from the honorees has been enthusiastic and thankful.

The list of nominees is running short, and so new nominations are needed for consideration. Have you come across someone in your editing circle who deserves a pat on the back for improving article prose regularly, making it easier to understand? Or perhaps someone has stepped in to mediate a contentious dispute, and did an excellent job. Do you know someone who hasn't received many accolades and is deserving of greater renown? Is there an editor who does lots of little tasks well, such as cleaning up a citation.

Please help us thank editors who display sustained patterns of excellence, working tirelessly in the background out of the spotlight, by submitting your nomination for Editor of the Week today! MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 23:50, 26 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Articles for Creation: List of reviewers by subject notice

Hi MJL, you are receiving this notice because you are listed as an active Articles for Creation reviewer.

Recently a list of reviewers by area of expertise was created. This notice is being sent out to alert you to the existence of that list, and to encourage you to add your name to it. If you or other reviewers come across articles in the queue where an acceptance/decline hinges on specialist knowledge, this list should serve to facilitate contact with a fellow reviewer.

To end on a positive note, the backlog has dropped below 1,500, so thanks for all of the hard work some of you have been putting into the AfC process!

Sent to all Articles for Creation reviewers as a one-time notice. To opt-out of all massmessage mailings, you may add Category:Wikipedians who opt out of message delivery to your user talk page. Regards, Sam-2727 (talk)

Scripts++ Newsletter – Issue 16

WikiCup 2020 July newsletter

The third round of the 2020 WikiCup has now come to an end. The 16 users who made it into the fourth round each had at least 353 points (compared to 68 in 2019). It was a highly competitive round, and a number of contestants were eliminated who would have moved on in earlier years. Our top scorers in round 3 were:

  • New York (state) Epicgenius, with one featured article, 28 good articles and 17 DYKs, amassing 1836 points
  • Botswana The Rambling Man , with 1672 points gained from four featured articles and seventeen good articles, plus reviews of a large number of FACs and GAs
  • England Gog the Mild, a first time contestant, with 1540 points, a tally built largely on 4 featured articles and related bonus points.

Between them, contestants managed 14 featured articles, 9 featured lists, 3 featured pictures, 152 good articles, 136 DYK entries, 55 ITN entries, 65 featured article candidate reviews and 221 good article reviews. Additionally, Denmark MPJ-DK added 3 items to featured topics and 44 to good topics. Over the course of the competition, contestants have completed 710 good article reviews, in comparison to 387 good articles submitted for review and promoted. These large numbers are probably linked to a GAN backlog drive in April and May, and the changed patterns of editing during the COVID-19 pandemic. As we enter the fourth round, remember that any content promoted after the end of round 3 but before the start of round 4 can be claimed in round 4. Please also remember that you must claim your points within 14 days of "earning" them. When doing GARs, please make sure that you check that all the GA criteria are fully met. Please also remember that all submissions must meet core Wikipedia policies, regardless of the review process.

If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article nominations, a featured process, or anywhere else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on

Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews Needed (remember to remove your listing when no longer required). Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages or by email. Good luck! Re: AG and Scots Wikipedia

Hello, MJL:

Sorry if this is not the most appropriate way of reaching out. I am a reporter with Gizmodo, and earlier we stumbled across that Reddit post about how one Wikipedia editor built out the entirety of Scots Wikipedia but may not actually know the language. Would you be able to put me in contact with that person so I can get their side of the story for a writeup? Would really like to chat, but no one's identity needs to be outed. Understand this is a sensitive topic and a weird thing. I can be reached at victoria.song@protonmail.com. Thanks for your time. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Vsonggizmodo (talkcontribs) 19:55, 25 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

(talk page stalker) @Vsonggizmodo: m:Requests_for_comment/Disruptive editing on sco.wikipedia on an unparalleled scale is one cross-project discussion that has been taking place on the matter, which also has additional discussions linked. If you'd like to reach out to the editor involved, you could always try to reach out to AmaryllisGardener directly, but there's no guarantee that they'd be up for responding, especially in light of the fact that the controversy is still ongoing. OhKayeSierra (talk) 02:31, 26 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@OhKayeSierra: AG does not want to speak about this anymore and should be left alone. I ended up speaking with the reporter about the subject, so it's all good. –MJLTalk 02:44, 26 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

The past 24 hours must have been really stressful for you, and you've even gone as far as to take a break from work to deal with this. I've also seen that you've been getting backlash on Reddit, and I also saw the message you got on Reddit that you posted on Twitter. Moreover, you've been talking to some news sites to act as sco's de facto PR. Talking to news websites, starting up an AMA, dealing with discussions on Meta, and handling the abusive words of internet trolls who have nothing better to do with their lives, all in the span of a day. That's gotta take some hardcore dedication.

You've received a lot of barnstars, but here's another one, to commend you for your being able to step up in the midst of internet backlash. You deserve it now more than ever. This could blow over relatively soon (and I hope it does), but history (at least for Wikimedia) will definitely remember your efforts.

I'm probably using a barnstar meant for English Wikipedia admins, but eh, I don't care.

and congrats on that IRL job promotion! Chlod (say hi!) 17:36, 26 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Signpost article

Hello MJL,

You probably already saw the ping, but there's going to be a story in The Signpost on the Scots Wikipedia incident next month. Could you take a look at the draft article at Wikipedia:Wikipedia Signpost/Next issue/News and notes ? Anything in particular you think that's misleading, or some topic not there that should be included? SnowFire (talk) 03:03, 29 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@SnowFire and Nosebagbear: Can we please call out the fact that Vice actually misrepresented what the Scots language even is (basically mixing it up with Scottish Gaelic). –MJLTalk 06:41, 29 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
That seems logical - but I didn't write that half (I made the CRC part) - I realise that's not clear, so you needed to ping both to be sure you got the right one. Nosebagbear (talk) 10:01, 29 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, Vice & the NY Post's articles were tabloidy and horrible and just wrong. I'd say the Vice article's biggest crime is mixing up the time and over-emphasizing the amount of actionable negative feedback AG received before the incident, really - outsiders don't understand that two people showing up on your talk page to yell at you is the price of doing business, and quite under expectations for seven years of editing. SnowFire (talk) 11:58, 29 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@SnowFire: No, I would really say the biggest crime was misunderstanding the Scots. Factual inaccuracies, like the one you just mentioned, are expected and not damaging in the long term so long as the truth gets out there. However, misrepresenting what the Scots language even is can't be undone for anyone who has already read that article and walked away from it. It just shows how little they care, and I know they don't care because I emailed the reporter to explain this with no response. –MJLTalk 16:35, 29 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
It's Vice, I wouldn't worry about it. A lot fewer people read/watch them than you'd think (I'd know, my old company used to put up some Vice content, and I saw the numbers.) For the reporter you emailed, see https://nymag.com/intelligencer/2018/06/inside-vice-media-shane-smith.html :
A senior manager once joked that the company’s hiring strategy had a “22 Rule”: “Hire 22-year-olds, pay them $22,000, and work them 22 hours a day."

WikiCup 2020 September newsletter

The fourth round of the competition has finished, with 865 points being required to qualify for the final round, nearly twice as many points as last year. It was a hotly competitive round with two contestants with 598 and 605 points being eliminated, and all but two of the contestants who reached the final round having achieved an FA during the round. The highest scorers were

  • Free Hong Kong Bloom6132, with 1478 points gained mainly from 5 featured lists, 12 DYKs and 63 in the news items;
  • IndonesiaHaEr48 with 1318 points gained mainly from 2 featured articles, 5 good articles and 8 DYKs;
  • England Lee Vilenski with 1201 points mainly gained from 2 featured articles and 10 good articles.

Between them, contestants achieved 14 featured articles, 14 featured lists, 2 featured pictures, 87 good articles, 90 DYK entries, 75 ITN entries, 95 featured article candidate reviews and 81 good article reviews. Congratulations to all who participated! It was a generally high-scoring and productive round and I think we can expect a highly competitive finish to the competition.

Remember that any content promoted after the end of round 4 but before the start of round 5 can be claimed in round 5. Remember too that you must claim your points within 10 days of "earning" them. If you are concerned that your nomination will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on

Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews. It would be helpful if this list could be cleared of any items no longer relevant. If you want to help out with the WikiCup, please do your bit to keep down the review backlogs! Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages or by email. If you wish to start or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove yourself from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. Adminship request

Hello

I have been a user on Wikipedia for a long time now. I wanted to acquire adminship to stop vandalism on particular pages that contain topics which are extremely communal in our country but are protected by extended protection. I request you to please nominate me as I gone through the Rfa guidelines and I think I am capable of being an Admin.

Thank you! Superbsic (talk) 08:17, 2 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
