Carrie GAN

Yo Gabriel, just checking in with a reminder there are two minor 1b and 3a issues outstanding at Talk:Carrie (2002 film)/GA1 and five days of inactivity here. This can easily be wrapped up. Thanks, Ribbet32 (talk) 00:42, 10 February 2018 (UTC)

Sorry for my absence, Ribbet32. I'm a little busy in real life, but I'm confident I'll be able to solve these issues in the next days. Thanks, Gabriel Yuji (talk) 02:38, 10 February 2018 (UTC)

A hidden nomination

Hi Gabriel, since you reviewed my 4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days, I was wondering if you might be interested in another GAN for another Best European Film, Caché (film)? Ribbet32 (talk) 02:17, 28 February 2018 (UTC)

Hi, Ribbet32, sorry for the late response. I'm a little busy in real life. In fact, I don't really like to do GA reviews haha.. I reviewed that because I had recently watched 4M3W2D. I'll pass this for now but maybe sometime I can review one of your reviews. Cheers, Gabriel Yuji (talk) 02:53, 5 March 2018 (UTC)

Kazuya Mishima's reception

I have been recently working in Kazuya Mishima's article, adding more real world info while trimming the in-universe information. The reception section was a bit convoluted with "Best X" so I tried rearranging them to this:

  • General response
  • Dark characterization
  • Devil Kazuya
  • Moves
  • Other media

What do you think? Another user said the reception section still needs some tide up so you are welcome to edit this article. I also requested a copyedit in the guild but it will take some time. Cheers.Tintor2 (talk) 23:34, 3 June 2018 (UTC)

Carrie 2002

Don't 100% disagree with the revert, but you could view the movie upon an entire plot basis. It is an acute moment in the film where she feels a sense of final acceptance from her peers which culminates in the outcome?--Kieronoldham (talk) 04:34, 15 September 2018 (UTC)

Yeah, it's an acute moment,
our goal is "not to reproduce the experience of reading or watching the story", so it doesn't really matter if it's an acute moment or not. We should be "cold" and describe the facts, not how significative it may have been in the story. Hope you're not mad with the revert. Cheers, Gabriel Yuji (talk
) 04:46, 15 September 2018 (UTC)
No I'm not mad. I didn't and don't intend to recite vocal plot summary. I just think that this section (maybe with a superseding of my original edit) needs one degree or another of replacing rather than a newspaper collage or fanzine-like equivalent.--Kieronoldham (talk) 04:57, 15 September 2018 (UTC)
I don't see the "newspaper collage or fanzine-like equivalent" there,

Link image

Hey there, a few years back you were on Talk:Link (The Legend of Zelda) discussing his character image. Unfortunately that image is now outdated due to not including his Breath of the Wild design, plus there's the fact that Zelda and Ganondorf's articles use their Smash incarnations rather than any kind of collage, so updating Link likewise (while including the collage to display his other incarnations) makes the most sense. If possible, could you please join the discussion on the page? Thanks! Buh6173 (talk) 20:58, 15 November 2018 (UTC)

Akane Tsunmeori

In case you checked the article's history, Akane has gone thrown a huge expansion by a user. I'm not sure what to do about it but it's a shame what happened since mentions of the franchise's novels and manga were removed. At this rate, I fear it will lose its status. By the way, thanks to giving the class to the Bungo articles.Tintor2 (talk) 14:38, 19 July 2019 (UTC)

I think it's a loss, Tintor2; you should talk to that user and do some compromise on Akane's article. As for Bungo, you're welcome for your good job. Gabriel Yuji (talk) 03:04, 22 July 2019 (UTC)
By the way, considering the recent expansion in Shinya Kogami's article in regards to his creation (well his appearances section could be expanded with the Inspector Shinya Kogami manga but I have no access to it) I wonder if it needs a reorganization. Be bold if you find some rearranging better or add as a subsection. Considering the Sinners movie is also coming I see potential for more reception and creation if the new profile book is translated and more critics talk about the new trilogy. I happened to find an IGN article that has more commentary from Seki but it was all in Japanese so I wasn't sure what to write. There is also Amano's sketch of the character in other articles too. Begotten Edits

Greetings Gabriel Yuji, I recently noticed your edits on the article for the film Begotten, as well as your suggestions. Looking over it, I am still trying to figure out where it says these things you are suggesting in the cite web template. Here are the edits I have questions I have am still confused as to why they need to occur that maybe you can clarify:

  • Adding the ref=harv at the end of some web citation and passing over others in the bibliography.
  • Removing the | symbol from the Merhige and Allmovie sfn references. (Is it because there are multiple sfns that cite from the same author?)
  • The addition of the ref={{sfnref on some of the bibliography entries.

--Paleface Jack (talk) 16:39, 10 October 2019 (UTC)

Hi, Paleface Jack. First, good job with Begotten! About your doubts: the cite web template will only explain why you shouldn't use the author's name in the "publisher" field. Template:Cite web#Publisher says, "The publisher is the company that publishes the work being cited". That's why I removed, for example, "publisher=Elaine Dutka" in the Los Angeles Times article. Sorry if wasn't clear in my summary but it's not enough to explain you about the "harv" features. So about your other questions:
  • I've passed over some references simply because I didn't do a complete job. Like I said in my summary "I fixed some refs, you can fix the remaining ones..." But you should add "ref=harv" whenever your "sfn" note uses the format {{sfn|author's last name|date}}. For example, click on the first inline note "Dutka 2004" and you'll see the corresponding refence; but click on "Maslin 1991a" and it'll lead you nowhere. Why? Because there's no "harv" ref that corresponds to it. To fix it, you should add "ref=harv" to Maslin refs; later, you should add "year=1991a" and "year=1991b" to them (because there are two "Maslin" refs with the same year; in case, there was only one Maslin ref you wouldn't have to do it). To better understand the whole thing, you should read Template:Harvard citation.
  • About removing "|" and adding "ref=sfnref": for Merhige ref I did it because I thought "cite video" parameters didn't allow me to use traditional "harv" i.e. you use "people=E. Elias Merhige (Director)" instead of "last=Merhige" and "first=E. Elias" and "harv" only works with the latter. And why the "sfnref"? Simply because it allows me to create a new name for the ref i.e. if I add "ref={{sfnref|Merhige 1991}}" my reference name now is "Merhige 1991" and that's why I must remove the "|" from my "sfn" citation. The same logic applies to "ref={{sfnref|Allmovie 2001a}}" and the removal of the "|". On a side note: you can alternately change the Merhige "cite video" ref to "first/last" format and you'll need to readd the "|". However, for Allmovie that's the only way I know to properly cite it because there's no author indicated and "harv" refs use the author's last name as default so {{sfn|Allmovie|2001a}} would only work if you have a reference that has "Allmovie" in the parameter "last". So that's why I did it for Allmovie and ComplexMagazine too. (In fact, for Complex you can use "harv" if you use {{sfn|Barone|Serafino|Pimentel|2018}}. However, as you've chosen to cite it as "ComplexMagazine 2018" I've simply added the "ref={{sfnref| ComplexMagazine 2018}}" because I've thought it was easier this way).
I hope this makes things a bit clearer. Anyway, feel free to ask about any doubts you may still have. I also strongly recommend you to add these two scripts (1 and 2) to see "harv" errors and general citation errors. Cheers, Gabriel Yuji (talk) 17:44, 10 October 2019 (UTC)

Thanks. Don't know who the publisher for the Film.com Reference should be listed as since it is archived now.--Paleface Jack (talk) 18:28, 10 October 2019 (UTC)

I did corrections and now there are a bunch of citation errors. Still don't know how the script helps and how to use it.--Paleface Jack (talk) 19:21, 10 October 2019 (UTC)

Yeah, there are still errors, but there are less than before, so you're on the way, Paleface Jack. The errors are still there because you've only corrected some "harv" refs that use the "last/first name" format with your edit. The scripts only help you to identify the errors, but you have to know how to fix it. I've tried to explain it, but you need to read the templates and, of course, only when you practice you'll understand it better. I'll give you hints about the problems in some of the references:
  • Note that most of the remaining errors are not in references with author's last name, but with site or event names (e.g. "TCM 2006", "FilmmakerMagazine 2000", "SFFS2a 1997", "CEFilmFestival 2019", etc); to fix them you'll have to use the "ref={{sfnref|}}" template, as I explained above. For example, you'll change {{cite web|title=DIN OF CELESTIAL BIRDS FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 15 AT 8 & 11 PM ET AND AN ADDITIONAL SHOWING AT 4 AM ET|url=http://www.tcm.com/this-month/article/144228%7C0/Din-of-Celestial-Birds.html|website=Turner Classic Movies.com|publisher=Turner Classic Movies|accessdate=22 June 2017|date=15 September 2006|***ref=harv***}} to {{cite web|title=DIN OF CELESTIAL BIRDS FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 15 AT 8 & 11 PM ET AND AN ADDITIONAL SHOWING AT 4 AM ET|url=http://www.tcm.com/this-month/article/144228%7C0/Din-of-Celestial-Birds.html|website=Turner Classic Movies.com|publisher=Turner Classic Movies|accessdate=22 June 2017|date=15 September 2006|***ref={{sfnref|TCM 2006}}***}}. Accordingly, you'll have to change {{sfn|TCM|2006}} to {{sfn|TCM 2006}}. Also, pay attention to
    MOS:ALLCAPS
    in this ref and others.
  • For refs like "Rosenbaum 1995a" and "Rosenbaum 1995b", you should add "year=1995a" and "year=1995b" to the references in the bibliography, as I said above for the Maslin refs and you did it.
  • In other cases, you simply didn't pay enough attention. For example, "Sterritt 1990" doesn't work simply because there's no "harv" in the bibliography. For "Gonsalves 2006" and "Bush 2015" you've misspelled their names either in the bibliography or in the ref itself. Gabriel Yuji (talk) 19:54, 10 October 2019 (UTC)

Oh I did pay attention, it was just a little more complex than I'm used to. I'm starting to figure it out though, thanks.

So I got most of the references fixed. The final two are kind of a chore and a half, what do you suggest since it cites different page numbers from the same source?--Paleface Jack (talk) 17:25, 15 October 2019 (UTC)

Nevermind, I found the problem.--Paleface Jack (talk) 19:24, 16 October 2019 (UTC)

Begotten GA Status

Hello Gabriel Yuji, I was wondering since you helped me with correcting the citation issues with the article on the film Begotten if you would be able to review it for GA status. My goal is to get it approved for GA status before the year ends since my expansion of the article took 4 years on and off and I appreciate the irony that it took 4 years to complete the film. That and I plan on getting it up to FA status soon afterwards. If you are unable to that's fine, just let me know whether or not you are willing/able to do it. Thanks for all the help. Your Demon Lord Dante Edit

Hey, I saw your edit of Demon Lord Dante's plot... Wow. You should try to fix that. You removed the actual plot in favor of the English DUB change.

God pleaded them to stop, Ryo and Saori's embrace was NOT a part of their plan. You are literally creating misleading information by doing that.

Look, I get it. You have your Christian values, you hate to see God in a blasphemously negative light and hate the idea of Him losing.

But this is about the truth, not about promoting a narrative. Please do your research next time you do something like this.

98.125.73.26 (talk) 22:56, 24 March 2020 (UTC)

Hey, 98.125.73.26. First, I don't have Christian values; I'm an atheist rs. And I'm the very one who wrote the 2002–04 reboot plot, including the part about the demons' victory ("In the final fight, Aya discovers she is Olga's reincarnation and helps Dante to defeat the gods. The gods leave the humans' bodies and return to space as the demons become the sole inhabitants of Earth.") and the whole "Production" section about Nagai's instance on god-demon dichotomy. But, okay, if it was a problem in the dub I couldn't have known, guy. Actually, I've watched the Brazilian Portuguese dub, so maybe that's the problem. If you can fix it, go ahead. Gabriel Yuji (talk) 00:31, 25 March 2020 (UTC)
And, it was not me who wrote that part. It has been written this way at least since December 2016. I only edited the page for the first time in April 2017. You can check it on the page's history. Gabriel Yuji (talk) 16:42, 28 April 2020 (UTC)

Mahjong as a genre

Hi Gabriel. I'd like to discuss an issue regarding mahjong-related series. I saw that you listed mahjong as a genre in Akagi. I listed it myself as well in Ten, and I saw Mudazumo Naki Kaikaku is listed with it as well. I listed Saki simply with mahjong as a genre, but it was placed between parenthesis, because apparently sports is the genre and "mahjong is not a genre in and of itself". So I was wondering what exactly is the criteria? Should all mahjong-related series be listed as sports series? - Xexerss (talk) 19:36, 22 May 2020 (UTC)

Hi, Xexerss. Good question. I think we should brought this issue to the WikiProjects. Anyway, my two cents: I agree that usually it's very strange to have football or basketball as genre and so of course sports is the correct option. The same should probably apply to mahjong as well thinking about it now. My only reasoning at the time I added it to Akagi was that the Japanese Wikipedia lists it under the mahjong manga genre and it is not categorized as subgenre of sports there but is a category in itself. So we need to discuss if we want to follow ja.wiki's steps; or if we want to try to understand their reasoning. Above of all, however, I think we should follow what reliable sources say. The Japanese Wikipedia article cites only three online sources I was able to check and none of them even mention "スポーツ". But I'm not sure if it's just because they take mahjong more seriously, like an "adult sport". Certainly, though, there is a subculture that involves both the board game itself and the mahjong-themed manga; for example, there is Kindai Mahjong which is mostly centered on mahjong manga and stuff. Autopatrolled

Hi Gabriel Yuji, I just wanted to let you know that I have added the "autopatrolled" permission to your account, as you have created numerous, valid articles. This feature will have no effect on your editing, and is simply intended to reduce the workload on

new page patrollers. For more information on the autopatrolled right, see Wikipedia:Autopatrolled. However, you should consider adding relevant wikiproject talk-page templates, stub-tags and categories to new articles that you create if you aren't already in the habit of doing so, since your articles will no longer be systematically checked by other editors (User:Evad37/rater and User:SD0001/StubSorter.js are useful scripts which can help). Feel free to leave me a message if you have any questions. Happy editing! Schwede66

Hi, Schwede66. Thank you for the recognition! Athough I already have this habit, I've added the two scripts because if they can help me they are more than welcome. Cheers, Gabriel Yuji (talk) 15:51, 23 May 2020 (UTC)

DYK for Do Communists Have Better Sex?

On 9 June 2020, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Do Communists Have Better Sex?, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that a 2006 German documentary attempted to answer the question "Do communists have better sex?" The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Do Communists Have Better Sex?. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, Do Communists Have Better Sex?), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Akira Fudo

Hi there. I've been checking the Devilman articles and wondered if it might be possible to create an article for Akira Fudo. He has had appearances in all Devilman series and the spinoff Amon. In case you are busy, maybe a gather of sources would work out and I could start working in the sandbox. Cheers.Tintor2 (talk) 23:02, 15 August 2020 (UTC)

I'm quite busy right now, Tintor2. But I think that would be incredible. Akira is one the most important characters in the anime/manga history. Along with Ryo, he created a trope that influenced several duos like Guts and Griffith from Berserk and Shinji and Nagisa from Evangelion. Gabriel Yuji (talk) 01:11, 16 August 2020 (UTC)
I see. I'll try working in the infobox and "borrow" some sources from the Crybaby article.Tintor2 (talk) 01:18, 16 August 2020 (UTC)

Created Akira Fudo. I guess it's kinda lacking creation.Tintor2 (talk) 15:47, 16 August 2020 (UTC)
