Offering adoption

Hello, I am a violinist (yes, I am!) I see you're seeking adoption. Although I'm not officially adopting, I'd be glad to take you in. Let me know on my talk page! Regards, Airplaneman 21:15, 13 May 2010 (UTC)

Adopted! What would you like to know right off the bat? I'm thinking about giving you some work to do so you can understand Wikipedia better. Would you like to do that? Airplaneman 20:39, 14 May 2010 (UTC)
Oh, and some preliminary advice: I have found that exploring and experimenting are some of the best ways to find your way around Wikipedia and learn more about this site. Just don't do anything stupid, and you should be fine :). I guess that's what an adopter is for - to try to keep you on track. So, please, ask absolutely anything; I'll try my best to answer! Airplaneman 20:42, 14 May 2010 (UTC)
I've responded :). If you haven't already, click the star icon on the upper right hand side of my talk page to
watch it. It'll show up on your watchlist so you can see any new changes. Airplaneman 11:41, 15 May 2010 (UTC)

Your first task

Alright, looks like I'm posting on your talk page. I see you have installed a newpage patrol script in your vector.js. Great! Let's get you knowledgeable on the

FRIENDLY in your preferences in the "gadgets" tab for easy page tagging. Once you've done that, a "TW" drop-down menu will appear on the right hand side of the upper toolbar, next to the drop-down arrow and "history" tab. That gives you actions to perform. If you want to test out some stuff, create User:I am a violinist/Sandbox
to experiment with the new functions.

As you might have figured out, for the new page patrol script, the pages highlighted (in this case, gray - they were yellow in the old skin) are un-patrolled. Oh yea, and

categorize
pages. Categories may be added at the bottom of the page.

I'll monitor your contribs, but yea, NPP-ing (new page patrolling) will really help you increase your policy knowledge. Any questions ? Airplaneman 17:06, 16 May 2010 (UTC)

Nice start. Sorry if I overloaded you above. Airplaneman 23:00, 17 May 2010 (UTC)
Also, when warning users (such as on
FRIENDLY in your preferences in the "gadgets" tab, which will help you do this (in Twinkle, if there are no previous posts on the talk page [it's a new one], then a welcome message will be left automatically). Friendly is also helpful with welcoming new users. In the case you are using Internet Explorer, these gadgets might not work. Happy editing :) Airplaneman 02:01, 20 May 2010 (UTC)
Not sure if you got the message here, but it looks like you're using Friendly already :). How is it? Airplaneman 22:21, 26 May 2010 (UTC)
It's quite nice, but of course if it could be used with Internet Explorer then it would be better. I am a violinist (talk) 13:25, 1 June 2010 (UTC)

Edit summaries

Hello I am a violinist (yes, it is true), it's me again, you adopter! I sifted through your contributions from which I see no problems except that you don't always use an

edit summary. I suggest using them 100% of the time to explain your edits to lessen the chance of people misunderstanding your edits. There is even an editing preference that reminds you to use it. Otherwise, keep up the good work. Airplaneman 19:58, 20 July 2010 (UTC)

P.S. Can you tell me where the weasel words were in here? I didn't see any. Airplaneman 19:59, 20 July 2010 (UTC)
The weasel word is 'stunning' in the newest version. All the others have been removed by others.I am a violinist (talk) 07:03, 21 July 2010 (UTC)
P.P.S. When adding a stub template to an article, there are specific stub templates for different topics. Stub sorters help keep the use of {{stub}} to a minimum by replacing them with more specific templates such as {{novel-stub}}. See how the one you added was made more specific. See here for more info. Airplaneman 20:02, 20 July 2010 (UTC)
Memorising all the stubs is hard and takes a lot of time, so I suppose that I might still be needing some elaboration by other more experienced users for some time.I am a violinist (talk) 07:03, 21 July 2010 (UTC)
I understand; I haven't memorized many, either. I just make guesses, use preview, and try again. A gadget in your preferences,
HotCat, can help you with categories as well. Airplaneman 01:31, 30 July 2010 (UTC)

Nice Work

Wow you are fast at tagging pages for speedy deletion. Keep up the good work. Thanks, Stickee (talk) 05:55, 3 October 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for the praise. The only problem now is that I might be beating too many wikipedians at tagging (ha, ha, ha). I am a violinisttalk to me here! 06:02, 3 October 2010 (UTC)
LOL, don't tag them too quick after they've been made (unless they're obvious vandalism and stuff like that). I suggest waiting 5-10 minutes after creation for most cases. Anyways,
WP:WIHS is an interesting essay that you may benefit from reading. Also, you have a new button and a new message on my talk page :) Airplaneman 23:24, 5 October 2010 (UTC)
Congratulations on your first vandalism revert! Keep it up, Airplaneman 23:03, 6 October 2010 (UTC)

Author blanked page

Just to let you know I undid a reversion you did onRadosław Janusz Walkowiak as the author blanked the page. I tagged it db-blanked Vrenator (talk) 13:36, 6 October 2010 (UTC)

GOCE drive news

Guild of Copy Editors
January 2011 backlog elimination drive

Greetings from the

! The drive is halfway over, so here are some mid-drive stats.

Participation
GOCE January 2011 backlog elimination drive progress graphs

So far, 43 people have signed up for this drive. Of these, 25 have participated. If you signed up for the drive but haven't participated yet, it's not too late! Try to copy edit at least a few articles. Remember, if you have rollover words from the last drive, you will lose them if you do not participate in this drive. If you haven't signed up for the drive yet, you can sign up now.

Progress report

We have eliminated two months from the backlog – January and February 2009. One of our goals is to eliminate as many months as possible from the 2009 backlog. Please help us reduce the size of this part of the backlog if you haven't already. Another goal is to reduce the entire backlog by 10%, or by 515 articles. Currently, we have eliminated 375 articles from the queue, so if each participant copy edits four more articles, we will reach that goal.

Thank you for participating in the January 2011 drive. We anticipate it will be another big success!

Hello! Long time no wiki-see :). I was stalking ur editz (not creepy at all) and was curious about the above topic. Sadly, it was a total, blatant

copyright violation, directly copied from another website, hence its poor wiki-quality. I looked in the history, and every single version was tainted with a copyright violation. That's because when it was created way back in 2006, the creator copy-pasted from the Sinfonietta's website (that's a copyright violation). I was quite disgusted that this wasn't caught for nearly half of a decade, so I deleted it (nothing worth keeping - Wikipedia doesn't want to be sued for using copyrighted material). Now, it's a woeful, unreferenced stub. If you have a spare moment, can you help me rebuild it? I'll try and give tips/pointers along the way. No rush - the article isn't going anywhere. Cheers, Airplaneman 02:07, 16 March 2011 (UTC)

GOCE drive invitation

Greetings from the
Guild of Copy Editors

The latest GOCE backlog elimination drive is under way! It began on 1 July and so far 18 people have signed up to help us reduce the number of articles in need of copyediting.

This drive will give a 50% bonus for articles edited from the GOCE requests page. Although we have cleared the backlog of 2009 articles there are still 3,935 articles needing copyediting and any help, no matter how small, would be appreciated.

We are appealing to all GOCE members, and any other editors who wish to participate, to come and help us reduce the number of articles needing copyediting, as well as the backlog of requests. If you have not signed up yet, why not take a look at the current signatories and help us by adding your name and copyediting a few articles. Barnstars will be given to anyone who edits more than 4,000 words, with special awards for the top 5 in the categories: "Number of articles", "Number of words", and "Number of articles of over 5,000 words".

I did not expect an uncited and short biographical article to be on such a significant person. Sorry about that! I am a violinisttalk to me here! 12:39, 1 October 2013 (UTC)

My father appeared before the Balovale Commission, representing the Barotse (I have his notes - over 100 pages - now scanned - but what should I do with it now?). I have a letter from MacDonell thanking him, and giving much of the information I put. It's in his own hand, so "it must be true" - but I'VE GOT IT ! So no-one else can see it ! I just looked on Wikipedia out of curiosity to find out something more about him... and didn't ! RobinClay (talk) 13:27, 1 October 2013 (UTC)

I've declined your speedy as the other article is about a totally different person - about 900 years later. Probably same family, though. They got around. Peridon (talk) 13:12, 1 October 2013 (UTC)

Sorry about that, I didn't realize the date difference. However do you think that the article needs a new name? The current article name seems to be quite an unusual choice, yet it seems to conform to the naming conventions. I am a violinisttalk to me here! 13:18, 1 October 2013 (UTC)
Leave it to the gnomes. It'll do until someone gets round to filling it out a bit more. BTW it always pays to go a bit deeper than just the title, and a quick Google can help very often too. There's no points awarded for speed in tagging, but some people can get rather narky if they see too many cases of 'oops!'. 8-) Peridon (talk) 13:38, 1 October 2013 (UTC)
