Autostick

The Saxomat and Automatic Stickshift (aka Autostick) question doesn't give an "its one or the other answer". Both were offered variously on the Beetle.

Saxomat is a term used to describe a mechanical semi-automatic transmission VW marketed (almost exclusively in Europe) in the early sixties. It is a precursor to the Automatic Stick Shift (AutoStick) transmission which made its debut in 1967/8.

A Saxomat is a regular 4 speed manual transaxle coupled to a electromagnetic clutch with a centrifical clutch used for idle. The Automatic stick shift (Autostick) is a 3 speed manual coupled to an electromatic clutch AND torque converter.

Perhaps we could expand the article, and edit the Autostick, Semi-automatic transmission and Saxomat articles for congruancy?

I added the two infobox entries and added a transmission paragraph under the "Design Overview" section. Oddly, I'd say the article could use expansion of this section; there really isn't much information in the article about the technical design.842U (talk) 12:11, 19 August 2012 (UTC)

Warrah

The Guarà is not the

Warrah but the Maned wolf a canid native to South America. I'm not sure how you reached that conclusion as it isn't in the article you cited. Wee Curry Monster talk

Hm, I read it carefully and in cross-referencing with the Spanish Wikipedia it seemed that "Guará" mainly referred to the Warrah (clearly shared etymology, very similar pronunciation) - but both animals seem to be referred to as "guarás" by various groups in Latin America. I guess the best thing would be to find a clearer source, as Giordanelli simply states:

The name Guara comes from a large South American wild dog.

This could be either animal. Again, I am sure that you are right, it just seemed a reasonable match to the Spanish entry for guará. Best, hope to reach some clarity for this,  Mr.choppers | ✎  04:53, 23 August 2012 (UTC)

The Warrah is extinct, was native to the Falkland Islands and has no living relative on the mainland. I very much doubt he was referring to an extinct animal. I would hope you are more careful in your research as linking two disparate pieces of information is clearly

Well, De Tomaso was Argentinian born, so mentioning something unique to the Falklands Islands would make a lot of sense, with most Argentinians I know being fiercely proud of anything to do with the Malvinas. Being extinct doesn't hinder being used. Again, I am not saying I'm necessarily right (and not OR, I was just trying to find which wild dog it was and searching es.wp for "guará" took me to Dusicyon australis - I wasn't yet aware that there were options), but it is not clear anywhere which wild dog it is.  Mr.choppers | ✎  17:28, 24 August 2012 (UTC)

Where's your creative thinking gone today?

Mr.choppers, your usually wonderful problem solving skills must be taking a break today. Here you stated, "I foresee various editors then applying bus or auto-specific fields in the wrong places". If we implement a compulsory parameter called "type" that specifies the vehicle as an "automobile", "bus", "truck", "motorcycle", etc; we can restrict certain parameters to certain vehicles types.This can also be used to settle terminology differences between vehicle types, "weight" for automobiles would output as "Kerb wight" as it does currently. "Weight" when the "motorcycle" vehicle type is specified could yield "wet weight" or "dry weight", etc. Hope this changes your mind! OSX (talk • contributions) 06:02, 23 August 2012 (UTC)

Snorkelling

I see I misunderstood the intent. The caption says "tall scoop", & in comparison to the drag racer's snorkel, it ain't tall. As an Aston scoop, it might be. How about "with tallest Aston scoop"? I tried to make it clear in the text, but I guess I didn't: The scoop started out low (Series 1 and 2), then grew quite tall for the Series 3 cars (to accommodate big ole carbs) and then flattened out considerably for later cars. I believe you are referring to this picture, in which case I have to disappoint you. That car is LHD, in beige, with hideously overchromed wheels rather than RHD, white, with classy wheels, and belongs to Melvyn and Joy Weiss of New Jersey. Re:Anchors

Hi. To me they link exactly the same, and that I think is because I'm browsing with Firefox. I tried the links in Google Chrome and indeed the anchor doesn't link the same as the table of contents. Apparently that is because the anchor template needs to be placed right before the section title, but after the first equal signs, the same as it is described in the template documentation. I tried it in Chrome and it seems that it links correctly this way, at the same level as from the table of contents, with the section title visible. The discussion atTemplate talk:Anchor#moving anchors inside headings may illuminate some points for you. To my knowledge, putting the anchor just above the section title worked in all cases but I haven't tried Chrome for a while (will need to reinstall it again). Downside of putting the anchor above the section title is that it may get separated from the section during major reorganisations. Putting the anchor inside the section title solves that but makes the edit summaries butt ugly and long. In the discussion we never did find an answer that made every one happy - and I spent quite a bit of time trying out many different solutions at {{Headinganchor}} and User:Stepho-wrs/test. I could, but you really need to provide sources for your additions. Especially when you are editing from an anonymous (IP address) it can be hard to trust your additions without a citation of some sort. Where did you get the info? "could" ?? You snobinavian... Then do it! An intelligent person (me) took time to improve the d15 page, and you removed it?? Look how ridiculous it appears: a Scandinavian (who should be editing Volvo & Saab info) is removing information from the d15b8 section, when he knows little or nothing about that engine, then questions an owner of more than one d15b8 engine (block & heads), and then raises an issue about an "unknown IP address" contributor. Ok...? Listen there Dungen, you may edit all the Honda stuff you want - just leave the D15B8 alone. I don't have a Wiki account because I don't see the sense in spending all that time for free (some of us aren't receiving money from their Nordic governments). I've been adding to Wiki for years. Everyone remember my IP, and know that when I make an edition, it's correct. Period. So um...could you be a sweetie and undelete my work? Pretty please with surstromming on top? Tack. I'm going to speak in Mr Choppers defence. Wikipedia policy is that anything that may be controversial or may be questioned needs a reliable source or reference. You may have good knowledge but if nobody can double check it then we have no way of knowing if you are telling the truth, making an honest error (typo on some numbers), repeating unsubstantiated urban myths or telling deliberate lies. So an external reference is required so that another editor can double check it. This is not an insult to you - it applies equally well to everything that Mr Choppers and myself and all other editors add.

Most of us give our time for free - to demand one of us to do something on your behalf is not right. Criticism based on his country is also not allowed. He has applied official Wikipedia policy correctly. You are free to restore the information with references or to make a request on the article talk page for help finding references (books, magazines, factory manuals).

Creating a wiki account is useful because it makes it easy to recognise you. Once you have built up a good reputation people will be more likely to trust you - although references are still required for anything which might be questioned. Unfortunately, anon IP address are often a source of absolute rubbish - not saying you are but the majority are. Most of us can't remember IP addresses, so we tend to treat a controversial edit from an IP address as untrustworthy. Creating a wiki account takes only a couple of minutes, is free and will help you to establish a good reputation.  Stepho  talk  23:16, 9 October 2012 (UTC)

Great, now we have a kangaroo hopping around in business that is also not his. (before my tachometer redlines, i'll say that Mr. Men At Work in Australia, i understand you, but i don't have the time to deal with your well-worded comments. just know that you shouldn't have spoken up. this is not a "wiki policy" or theory or tight-assed protocol issue for me -> i'm only interested in the clarity of engine B8). Ok. Does anyone see how ridiculous this is? The d15b8, an engine that nobody really cared about - a USDM-ONLY engine from 20 years ago, which non-Americans COULD NOT HAVE - is all of the sudden attracting attention in 2012 from foreign nationals, which have no knowledge whatsoever about the D15B8! And what's worse, they are INTERVENING?? This is like me telling an Australian the way I think 'Vejemite' should be spelled, and then deleting it. Me telling a Swede that 'Surstroming' [citation needed] doesn't need two dots above the vowel, nor does it need two M's. Children, you CANNOT rightfully remove/edit unless you TRULY and GENUINELY know the additions are incorrect. In this case you do NOT. So leave it be. If you think the information MAY need correction, then wait. Wait for another d15b8 expert to edit it. Eventually it will come. Otherwise LEAVE IT ALONE. This is how Wiki works. It's not feasible to add "citation needed" to every damn sentence of data. You two dogmatic dorks really need to get girlfriends and spend some time with them. Tell them you love them. Buy them shoes. They like that attention. Get outside more. Give a street beggar a kroner. It's unthinkable that you are wasting everyone's time. Stop seeing yourself as the internet police. Stop seeing yourself as Wiki watchdogs. Get a life. As for my education, I don't claim to know about the D15B3, or the B4, or the B5. But I do know about the B8 (and a little about the z1, which I made additions to and were LEFT ALONE because most REAL PEOPLE people believed them to be correct). On the one hand we have official Wikipedia policy of facts requiring verification (usually through published references) and on the other hand we have some guy saying his word is all we need. So Mr Anonymous IP, the question is 'How do we know your word is trustworthy?' This is why any non-trivial fact requires a means of verification. The same burden of proof also applies to every other editor - including Mr Choppers and myself. Throwing around insults only weakens your claim of being trustworthy. Vented disc brakes for Corolla E90

Not the GT-i but the CS - I don't know if this (liftback) version was unique to Scandinavia, but my source explicitly mentions its ventilated brakes all-around. Trevi

Hi: thanks for making those revisions to the Trevi page, in particular for finding the Belgian reference. I note that the supercharger´s fuel economy was dire and quite out of line with Lancia´s claims. I have another reference arriving soon so I will add that. I think we can say we have Wikipedia´s best Trevi page. Who this helps precisely I am not sure but in a small way we´re making a small body of knowledge that bit more accessible.

Suzuki rollover video

A few years ago there was a discussion that went on and on about the Suzuki Samurai rollover videos that showed in their own words how C/R's engineers rigged the tests. Some didn't like that they were only available on MySpace (a social networking site). After waiting patiently, the videos finally reappeared, stitched together into one 15 minute video. Yeah, it can be a tough call to make when Toyota gives different years. However, I've found that when Toyota write about their own history they tend to make mistakes left right and centre. Or it gets biased towards the local market of the person doing the writing. It's understandable given that they're given a limited time to write these histories and that usually they haven't spent the last 15 years collecting info like we sad, sad, anoraks have. But the EPC parts catalogue (ie as copied at the Russian site) is just dry facts taken straight from their own production records. The occasional transcription error creeps in but generally their parts catalogues are the most trustworthy source. But beware that the EPC comes in 3 editions (Japan, N.America, the rest of the world) and that vehicles only show up in each edition if it is sold in that market. There is corroborating evidence from frame numbers recorded at http://jnc.farpost.com/data/framno/yk110.html that the YK110 was made up to at least Aug 1993 (it's possible that his source was from 1993 and that the vehicle continued on). It's possible that Stout production was moved from the plant in Japan to another country (which?) in 1988/1989 and that the 75th anniversary researcher only saw that the Japanese plant shut down Stout production and didn't notice that it started elsewhere. Toyota also has a frustrating way of doing their parts catalogues. They will have one catalogue that seems to cover every variation of a vehicle. Then I find another catalogue that covers a single, special variation (eg a sports coupe version) that doesn't even appear in the main catalogue at all. Since Toyota never have a single source that mentions all variations and we don't have a complete set of catalogues/manuals (and I suspect Toyota themselves don't have a complete set at a single location), then it is very hard to say that a variation and/or year doesn't exist - it may simply be in a catalogue that we don't have. Found another clue. At http://toyotamarket.ru/gr/681220 (general), http://toyotamarket.ru/eu/681220 (Europe), http://toyotamarket.ru/jp/681120 (Japan) - but nothing for USA - it shows that:

1. the RK110/111 finished in Sept 1986, (RK110 finished in Jan 1982 for the Japanese market but they had the RK111 to Mar 1986)
2. no Stouts were made for 18 months,
3. YK110 production started in April 1988,
4. most versions of the YK110 finished in Aug 1993 (agreeing with the frame number data)
5. only the YK110L-MRH (which was left hand drive) continue on to Feb 2000.  Stepho  talk  23:37, 23 January 2013 (UTC)

And meanwhile, all of these Russian parts catalogues omit the 20R engined version, which Toyota themselves refer to in their 75th anniversary page. Maybe that last YK110L-MRH was only in small numbers for CKD in some peculiar market (like Chile or the Middle East) - since the last generation Stout was somewhat of a "bitza", it couldn't have required much effort to keep it available. Anyhow, we are all very much on the verge of

Do you actually own a Lambretta or know anything about the history of Lambretta within the United Kingdom ? If you did, you would then realise that Supertune, was one of the best known names in '60s and 70's for performance tuning and conversion of Innocenti Lambretta Scooters. Supertune, produced a number of scooter to customer requirements, but only one works dealer special, the SX 200 Rallye SE, Registration No XLU 3 G is the only one of it's kind in the world and I own it !

Sorry, I'm confused: If I am breaking any actual rules, then I don't know what they are. I may have overreacted to what I saw as peremptory action, and if I have overstepped a boundary in that, I will apologise. I'll also apologise if I overstep the mark in reacting to the pejoratives and incivility in the arguments so far.

It is true that I was, initially, concerned that a vote might be involved, and wanted to advertise this concern amonst those I know have an interest in the Sprint; not all of whom are current or former owners, BTW. However, having taken the trouble to read the procedures for merging, I now realize that a consensus is necessary before the merger. In which case, it is impossible to vote stuff. As to the accusation of sockpupetry, I'll call that what it is, defamation, and leave it at that. OK, I'll go a bit further and suggest it is a failure to assume good faith. However, I feel that legitimately proving that there is significant interest in a separate page is a valid action in that case: If it were just me against the rest, I might simply be ignored; I understand that consensus is not unanimity. But if, as I suspect, there's enough interest in the subject, certainly here in the UK, it won't be so easy to ignore that. And frankly, if resources are being marshalled, it feels as though this is happening on both sides. Now I freely admit, I'm not trying to achieve a consensus to merge the TR7 Sprint page into the TR7. I'd much rather obtain a consensus that the TR7 Sprint does deserve a page. However, if I must achieve this, in effect, by showing that no consensus to merge can be achieved, I will, and I don't think that is wrong. If it's against a rule then I think I object to the rule.

On the other hand, if one were to consider the TR7 Sprint page as it is – truly woeful – then it might be a legitimate call to merge. However, I've been endeavouring to correct this page for some months. I made this very clear, after SamBlob simply deleted the page without reference to procedure, and I put the address of the rewrite on the talk page. I had already done much to rewrite the TR7 page information on the TR7 Sprint (maybe it was my mistake to do that first), and I think it's about right in that regard: it has, I think, enough on the Sprint as a variant for those whose interest is the TR7. However, there is much that is out there that relates to the TR7 Sprint that is certainly too deep for the TR7 page, and my experiences are that there is some interest in collating this and rebutting the rhubarb. Hence, I think that the notability of the sprint is sufficient for such a page on Wikipedia. I also think that this page has a valuable purpose in informing those with a specific interest in the subject; hence, my attempts to prove their existence. That this information and interest exist is, I would say, evidenced by the fact that the pages devoted to the TR7 Sprint go well beyond the Triumph clubs. If this purpose is beyond Wikipedia then so be it, I suppose. But it will make me very, very sad if this is so. What I don't understand is what those who want rid of the page stand to gain out of this. I assume there is some personal advantage, tangible or otherwise, or the process wouldn't be as acrimonious as it is.

So, I will continue to do what I legitimately can to prevent this merge, and I will continue to work to bring the TR7 Sprint page up to a reasonable standard. I have, in the majority, already taken on board SamBlob's input to the article. So, if you are unable or unwilling to help in that, all I ask is that you let it stand until the rewrite is ready. Perhaps then we can all get on with something less fraught and a lot more interesting.

Yes Graham, having more content on the obscure (and interesting: I love the obscure) Sprint than for the regular TR7 goes against WP principles. Enlisting friends within your own community to inflate the seeming importance of the Sprint is against the WP principles. You will also notice that I had already commented at the TR7 talk page before biker biker mentioned the apparent problems here on my page. You then go on to accuse us of somehow standing to gain personal advantage from blocking what you see as your dues - which is too crazy to even offer a response to. My suggestion is to create your own Sprint page somewhere else on the World Wide Web, we will then be happy to quote you for the (complete) Sprint section at the TR7 entry. The Hilux (and its derivatives) always had single wheels. The link you gave only mentions custom conversions done by owners. You need to go up to something like the T100 or Tundra (which are not Hilux derivatives) to get a factory dually.  Stepho  talk  07:27, 8 March 2013 (UTC)

I just checked in the factory USA/Canadian spec microfiche and it looks like I was wrong - the factory did make he U-Haul duallies and the microfiche even calls it the U-Haul model. Models are VZN85L (long wheelbase) and VZN95L (Super long). Specs are 5-speed manual (R series gearbox) or 4-speed column shift auto, Aug 1988 to Aug 1993, half ton carrying capacity, Standard grade (ie not Deluxe), regular cab, supplied as cab+chassis (ie without rear body), 3VZ-E EFI engine, special deep-dish steel wheels and of course dual rear tyres. The USA got all those. Canada had the super long with auto only built to the same specs and dates. I don't have the Dyna parts catalogues for those years, so I can't verify Whysmee's theory that it used G15 Dyna/Toyoace parts.  Stepho  talk  08:10, 9 March 2013 (UTC)

Yeah, it's a fair chunk of work. It's gotten to the point now that I flinch whenever I see any edit even remotely connected to the Philippines - and there seems to be a certain amount of ip overlap, as people use internet cafés and maybe share servers, so I feel that a number of innocents may also be getting blocked. I've actually taken the time to talk to Toyota, Mitsubishi and Nissan salespeople promoting cars at malls here in Manila, and they have confirmed the fact that majority of the cars they sell are imported from Thailand, Indonesia and Japan, and not locally built. It's nice to know the truth but beware of

WP:original research. If the dealers tell you that a model was made in Thailand then you can delete where WP says it was made in the Philippines but you can't add that it was made in Thailand (because you have no reference that can be verified). You must also be careul of whether it applies to all models and years or if it applies only to certain models and certain years (fictitious example: maybe the 2002-2004 GT was made in Thailand and others were made in Philippines).  Stepho  talk

I know why the whitespace is there. I find it totally unnecessary. The generation headers explain the divisions, & the infoboxes are there. Perhaps you can help me on this: Once every 2-3 weeks, the Classic Car Rescue article is vandalized by an anonymous user in Canada. Apparently, this user has a personal grudge on one of the show's presenters, often claiming that presenter is bankrupt. I've sent a page protection request, but it was denied because the vandalism wasn't frequent enough. Furthermore, I opened a sockpuppet investigation on the numerous IP addresses used by the vandal, but the case was thrown because I pointed out the physical address of the IP addresses (which is apparently a security violation). There's been something that's been bothering me for the past few years. Wiki has a List of James Bond vehicles article, even though vehicles have been at most secondary in the entire James Bond 007 franchise. Why not use the same concept and create an article for a list of The Fast and the Furious vehicles? I just added a new reference showing that the current Nissan Tiida is released in Malaysia as the Nissan Almera.
