Hi there, your silent reversion here at

In the future, it would be wise for you to ask questions or look up the relevant guideline rather than reverting, and you should also consider using edit summaries so that other members of this community can understand the rationale for your changes. For improving and expanding a number of Gujarat related articles and for creating an infinite number of articles which resulted in considerable impact on Gujarati wikipedia. Information icon Hello. Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia.

When editing Wikipedia, there is a field labeled "Edit summary" below the main edit box. It looks like this:

Edit summary (Briefly describe your changes)

I noticed your recent edit to Somnath temple does not have an edit summary. Please be sure to provide a summary of every edit you make, even if you write only the briefest of summaries. The summaries are very helpful to people browsing an article's history.

Edit summary content is visible in:

Please use the edit summary to explain your reasoning for the edit, or a summary of what the edit changes. I was surprised with your reverts. The original editors gave clear explanations, but your reverts weren't explained at all. Kautilya3 (talk) 16:45, 3 August 2016 (UTC)

Rio Olympics Edit-a-thon

Dear Friends & Wikipedians, Celebrate the world's biggest sporting festival on Wikipedia. The Rio Olympics Edit-a-thon aims to pay tribute to Indian athletes and sportsperson who represent India at Olympics. Please find more details here. The Athlete who represent their country at Olympics, often fail to attain their due recognition. They bring glory to the nation. Let's write articles on them, as a mark of tribute.

For every 20 articles created collectively, a tree will be planted. Similarly, when an editor completes 20 articles, a book will be awarded to him/her. Check the main page for more details. Rakesh Jhaveri Page Edits

Thank you for your detailed response, Nizil. The issue here is that it is not an honorific but a standard name by which he is officially addressed. No one will be searching for Rakesh Jhaveri as that is his birth name, but people will be searching for Pujya Gurudevshri or Pujya Gurudevshri. There are two alternate names - Saheb and Bapa - that he is referred to as. Would either of these be OK on the page? The benefit is that people who are searching for his name will be able to find him easily. If you search the Times of India articles, they also use the commonly referred to as names. Thank you sincerely for being an active editor on this page. Dmehta81 (talk) 05:17, 2 August 2016 (UTC) Thank you again for your response. Have created the redirect, that was a superbly helpful suggestion. Another query about the same page I have is that there are 21 verified sources on the page, why does the BOT still require further? What can be done to further clarify the page and make it completely Citations Required free.Dmehta81 (talk) 11:12, 2 August 2016 (UTC)Dmehta81 (talk) 11:55, 2 August 2016 (UTC)

Will edit more pages. Send if you have any that require edits. Please confirm if OK to use honorific name if the link of (honorific) if present.Dmehta81 (talk) 13:25, 2 August 2016 (UTC)
Did you check about usage of Pujya Gurudevshri Rakesbhhai with the community? Just a follow up :) Dmehta81 (talk) 03:44, 4 August 2016 (UTC)
Hey Nizil, another point just noticed was that on all books that are written by him the name appears as Pujya Gurudevshri Rakeshbhai. He also just received a U.S. Congressional certificate of recognition with the name Pujya Gurudevshri Rakeshbhai. So even from a search perspective it would make sense to include it within that article. If you see author pages or rapper pages, you will see this trend. You can phrase it on the page yourself so we can be in the clear in that sense. Please let me know. Thanks once again!!Dmehta81 (talk) 09:04, 16 August 2016 (UTC)

Yes there are several images on the website, which are all copyrighted by the Mission so they may definitely be used on Wikimedia. Where do we go to upload these images? Please guide. Thank you, once again.Dmehta81 (talk) 06:39, 20 August 2016 (UTC)

Invitation from Wikipedia Asian Month 2016

Wikipedia Asian Month

Thanks for partipating Wikipedia Asian Month last year, and I hope you enjoy it. Last year, more than 7,000 articles contribute to Wikipedia in 43 languages in Wikipedia Asian Month, making us one of the largest event on Wikipedia. We will organize this event again in upcoming November, and would like to invite you join us again.

This year, we are lowering down the standards that you only need to create 4 (Four) articles to receive a postcard (new design), and articles only need to be more than 3,000 bytes and 300 words. We are also improving our postcard sending process, e.g. making the postcards right now, and collecting the address after the event ends without waiting other languges.

Wikipedians who create the most articles on each Wikipedia will be honored as "Wikipedia Asian Ambassadors". We will send you both digital copy, and a paper copy of the Ambassador certificate.

Thank you for considering! --AddisWang (talk)

edits requested for the page Amdavad Ma Famous

Hello Nizil I had requested a few additions (latest awards etc) to the page Amdavad Ma Famous (indian documentary film) and I had provided links for all of them for verification. I am afraid I do not understand how to edit and add them myself, please guide so a to how can they reflect in the page details too. You can cross check all facts in the links. Thanks. Hi Nizil, Thank you for your reply. It was helpful. I have made the additions where I could. I have added reference where ever possible. Though I feel official film festival websites are the most reliable source to authenticate an official selection claim. Please check if they suffice. Jamuura is a reliable film blog, however since you mentioned, Ive not added that link. Please let me know if its okay. Also in the first section i cannot find the edit icon - I just want to add that Hardik Mehta is Mumbai based independent film maker. Thank you. AMF2016 (talk) 15:14, 30 December 2016 (UTC)

Hi! Am not sure if you have notice it or not, but the annual editing competition Wikipedia:WikiCup has started and the signup is open till 5 February 2017. The cup encourages content improvement and tries to make editing on Wikipedia more fun; and it did that for me last year. I have hence decided to drop this friendly note hoping that you would take part. Although the signup ends on 5th Feb, the earlier you sign in the earlier you start scoring. Happy New Year and Happy Editing!

And about the RBI related issue you posted earlier, I will try and have a look. Boldly merging all forks is fine by me. §§Dharmadhyaksha§§ {Talk / Edits} 04:37, 6 January 2017 (UTC)

March 2017 WikiCup newsletter

And so ends the first round of the competition, with 4 points required to qualify for round 2. It would have been 5 points, but when a late entrant was permitted to join the contest in February, a promise was made that his inclusion would not result in the exclusion of any other competitor. To achieve this, the six entrants that had the lowest positive score of 4 points have been added to the 64 people who otherwise would have qualified. As a result, some of the groups have nine contestants rather than eight. Our top four scorers in round 1 were:

  • Scotland Cas Liber, last year's winner, led the field with two featured articles on birds and a total score of 674.
  • European Union Iry-Hor, a WikiCup newcomer, came next with a featured article, a good article and a tally of 282 bonus points for a score of 517. All these points came from the article Nyuserre Ini, an Ancient Egyptian pharaoh,
  • Japan 1989, another WikiCup newcomer, was in joint third place at 240. 1989 has claimed points for two featured lists and one good article relating to anime and comedy series, all of which were awarded bonus points.
  • South Australia Peacemaker67 shared third place with five good articles and thirteen good article reviews, mostly on naval vessels. He is also new to the competition.

The largest number of DYKs have been submitted by Vivvt and The C of E, who each claimed for seven, and MBlaze Lightning achieved eight articles at ITN. Carbrera and Peacemaker67 each claimed for five GAs and Krishna Chaitanya Velaga was well out in front for GARs, having reviewed 32. No featured pictures, featured topics or good topics yet, but we have achieved three featured articles and a splendid total of fifty good articles.

So, on to the second round. Remember that any content promoted after the end of round 1 but before the start of round 2 can be claimed in round 2. Invitations for collaborative writing efforts or any other discussion of potentially interesting work is always welcome on the WikiCup talk page. Remember, if two or more WikiCup competitors have done significant work on an article, all can claim points equally.

If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is a good article candidate, a featured process, or anything else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on

Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews. If you want to help out with the WikiCup, please do your bit to help keep down the review backlogs! Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages or by email. Good luck! If you wish to start or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove yourself from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. Godot13, Sturmvogel 66 and Cwmhiraeth

Pujya Deepakbhai Desai

I have reviewed the honorifics guidelines as laid out by Wikipedia, but would like to bring to your attention that 'Pujya Deepakbhai Desai' is a public figure who is not recognized under any name other than 'Pujya Deepakbhai Desai'. Also the honorific guidelines do not prohibits the use of "Pujya" and "bhai" in their list. I have also gone through numerous pages of people who have honorifics attached to their name including 'Morari Bapu' (whose real name is Moraridas Prabhudas Hariyani), Govindbhai Patel (whose article you have created yourself) and Bholabhai Patel (also an article you have written.)-Kaushal (talk) 11:29, 15 March 2017 (UTC)

I am not trying to add 'Pujyashri' to the name of the page, I am simply adding 'Pujya'. As 'Pujya' is not explicitly listed in the honorifics guidelines it means that it is allowed to be used. He is known not only in India, but around the world as Pujya Deepakbhai Desai, so it is incorrect to name the page anything else. In any secondary article he is always mentioned as Pujya Deepakbhai Desai and never Deepak Desai. -Kaushal (talk) 17:00, 15 March 2017 (UTC)

Regarding Wrong Side Raju

Hi,

You have just reverted my change on the page for Wrong Side Raju. Can you please tell me why? The synopsis that I'm writing is the official one. The current synopsis is not a synopsis but the entire story of the film.

FilmyEditor (talk) 06:00, 11 April 2017 (UTC)

censorship in writing whole story even if the movie is suspense film. You can read synopsis of other films to understand that this is standard practise on Wikipedia. Hope this clarifies. I like to give inputs/comments on articles related to Jainism when they are forwarded for FA/GA review as a support to reviewer. Feel free to ask me anything about the subject, I will be happy to help. Regards,--Nizil (talk) 04:53, 21 April 2017 (UTC)

Good source

This is a good source which elaborates on a lot of aspects of Jainism in detail. It comprehensively covers a lot of content which is not there on wikipedia. Would you like to help in bringing some of that to WP? -- Pankaj Jain Capankajsmilyo (talk · contribs · count) 08:26, 23 April 2017 (UTC)

Thank you, Capankajsmilyo, for pointing the source. Jainism is not my primary area of interest on WP though I have created/improved several articles. You can create/improve articles based on the source and tell me have a look. I would like to improve or give suggestions but I am unable to commit myself to it as my priorities are different. I am involved in Jainism topics recently because I noticed that you have nominated them for GA/FA. So I provided some points on improvements and sometimes improved little bit myself. Currently I am working on Sallekhana. You may have noticed that receiving GA is not an easy task because such articles are considered as the bests in WP so quality bar is really very high. I have always believed that working on topics related to religions is complicated and tough task. And sometimes controversial and contested too. So it needs commitment of long time. I appreciate that you have taken up this bit tough task and please do continue. Don't be frustrated or demoralised if your work does not receive GA/FA as whatever you edit is going to stay as a stepping stone to better article in future. We are committed to free knowledge for all. Regards and lots of love, -Nizil (talk) 05:11, 24 April 2017 (UTC)

Sallekhana

I have copy edited the article as you asked. It certainly explains the subject in a completely understandable way for anyone not familiar with the practice. Regards. Twofingered Typist (talk) 13:41, 26 April 2017 (UTC)

May 2017 WikiCup newsletter

The second round of the competition has now closed, with just under 100 points being required to qualify for round 3. YellowEvan just scraped into the next round with 98 points but we have to say goodbye to the thirty or so competitors who didn't achieve this threshold; thank you for the useful contributions you have made to the Cup and Wikipedia. Our top scorers in round 2 were:

  • Scotland Cas Liber, led the field with five featured articles, four on birds and one on astronomy, and a total score of 2049, half of which came from bonus points.
  • Japan 1989 was in second place with 826 points, 466 of which were bonus points. 1989 has claimed points mostly relating to anime and Japanese-related articles.
  • South Australia Peacemaker67 took third place with two FAs, one GA and seven GARs, mostly on naval vessels or military personnel, scoring 543 points.
  • Other contestants who scored over 400 points were
    Czar
. Of course all these points are now wiped out and the 32 remaining contestants start again from zero in round 3.

Vivvt submitted the largest number of DYKs (30), and MBlaze Lightning achieved 13 articles at ITN. Carbrera claimed for 11 GAs and Argento Surfer performed the most GARs, having reviewed 11. So far we have achieved 38 featured articles and a splendid 132 good articles. Commendably, 279 GARs have been achieved so far, more than double the number of GAs.

So, on to the third round. Remember that any content promoted after the end of round 2 but before the start of round 3 can be claimed in round 3. Remember too that you must claim your points within 10 days of "earning" them. Invitations for collaborative writing efforts or any other discussion of potentially interesting work is always welcome on the WikiCup talk page. Remember, if two or more WikiCup competitors have done significant work on an article, all can claim points equally.

If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article nominations, a featured process, or anywhere else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on

Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews. If you want to help out with the WikiCup, please do your bit to help keep down the review backlogs! Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages or by email. Good luck! Pujya Gurudevshri Rakeshbhai Caption

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ravi_Shankar_(spiritual_leader) if you refer to this page, though his name is written as Ravi Shankar on top, the honorific is regarded in the caption. Similarly, adding plainly a last name for a person who is not going to be known at all by that name - in fact - it is not utilized in any of his books, articles published by TOI or newspapers, nor followers. So at one point it becomes the sensibility issue of whether Wiki should disregard facts. In this scenario, one could either write A discourse in Dharampur, which is true or properly reference the individual, in this case a renowned author and public figure, by the name that is used by news publications, government of India officials, and on all the books written by him. Nowhere does the word "Jhaveri" appear except in this Wikipedia article and a few news sources. The reason being? That is not his public figure name. So by writing this caption, it is alienating the very individual the page refers to. This is why I had reverted to "A discourse" to avoid any issue with the name. Please either keep no name in the caption or the generic one. Earlier there was also a major error in your caption with the word 'instructing' which is to say that these were instructions to take some kind of action, when in fact, a discourse, as seen on television, published in several booklets and through magazines, blogs and newspapers under the name Pujya Gurudevshri Rakeshbhai denote that he discusses spiritual philosophy. Please check several available physical and digital publications available to verify if required. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Dmehta81 (talkcontribs) 03:40, 9 May 2017 (UTC)

Regarding Page Deletion of "Ruchir Gupta"

The page is not created by me. The page should not be deleted as it doesn't violate with WikiPedia's policies. That's why I am removing the tag. Don't know what problem do you have with that person that you are repeatedly putting his the delete tag on his page.

Moreover, I can see you are trying to delete many pages from WikiPedia.

    14:43, 12 May 2017 (UTC)

The article Operation Sankat Mochan (India) has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Military operations of this sort are not particularly notable "air force does day job", and I dont see anything that makes this stand out against the thousands of such missions carried out worldwide in the last seventy or eighty years

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be

deleted for any of several reasons
.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. DYK for Sallekhana

On 27 May 2017, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Sallekhana, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that Sallekhana is a religious practice of voluntarily fasting to death? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Sallekhana. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, Sallekhana), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Can you help verify translations of articles from Gujarati

Hi Nizil Shah,

Would you be able to help out on a short project to evaluate the accuracy of translations of Wikipedia articles from Gujarati to English WP?

The task would be to evaluate an article on English Wikipedia by comparing it to the original Gujurati article, and giving it a "Pass" or "Fail". This is strictly about whether the translation is factually correct, it's not about notability, beautiful English, verifiability, or anything else (existing guidelines already cover those issues). Here's the reason for this request:

There are a number of articles on English Wikipedia that were created as

machine-translations from different languages, including Gujarati, sometimes by users with no knowledge of the original language. This was due to a misconfig in the Content Translation tool
that made it very easy for users to use Google translate to create articles in English without knowing the source language. The config problem has since been fixed, but this left us with a backlog of articles whose translations are suspect. In many cases, editors have come forward to fix up any sloppy English they find, but that doesn't necessarily mean that the translation is accurate, as any factual errors from the original translation may have simply been painted over. Or to put it another way, "good English" does not equal "good translation". (I found one from German, for example, where the English article claimed he was a "scientist" where in reality he was a journalism professor, and it was due to bad translation.)

If you can help out, that would be great. Here's a sample of three articles so you can see what's involved:

All you have to do, is compare them to the Gujarati version, and write "okay" or "bad" for each one. (Naturally, if you feel like fixing an inaccurate translation and then marking it "okay", that's even better, but you don't have to.) Once again, this is only about whether the translation is factually correct, we're not looking at notability, references, or anything else.

Thanks, and happy editing! Mathglot (talk) 02:47, 27 May 2017 (UTC)

@Mathglot:, thanks for bringing my attention. All three articles are "okay" Thumbs up icon. Himashi Shelat is improved a lot after translation (which was definitely not machine translation) including contribution by myself. All these articles are translated by KartikMistry who is one of a developer on Language Team which developed Content Translation Tool. So I think he is well aware of issues with machine translation and these all three seem manual translation. Regards,--Nizil (talk) 05:06, 27 May 2017 (UTC)

WikiCup 2017 July newsletter

The third round of the competition has finished in a flurry of last minute activity, with 288 points being required to qualify for round 4. It was a hotly competitive round with all but four of the contestants exceeding the 106 points that was necessary to proceed to round 4 last year.

Freikorp
tied on 288, and both have been allowed to proceed, so round 4 now has one pool of eight competitors and one of nine.

Round 3 saw the achievement of a 26-topic Featured topic by MPJ-DK as well as 5 featured lists and 13 featured articles. PanagiotisZois and SounderBruce achieved their first ever featured articles. Carbrera led the GA score with 10, Tachs achieved 17 DYKs and MBlaze Lightning 10 In the news items. There were 167 DYKs, 93 GARs and 82 GAs overall, this last figure being higher than the number of GAs in round 2, when twice as many people were taking part. Even though contestants performed more GARs than they achieved GAs, there was still some frustration at the length of time taken to get articles reviewed.

As we start round 4, we say goodbye to the fifteen or so competitors who didn't quite make it; thank you for the useful contributions you have made to the Cup and Wikipedia. Remember that any content promoted after the end of round 3 but before the start of round 4 can be claimed in round 4. Remember too that you must claim your points within 10 days of "earning" them (some people have fallen foul of this rule and the points have been removed).

If you are concerned that your nomination, whether it be for a good article, a featured process, or anything else, will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on

Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews. It would be helpful if this list could be cleared of any items no longer relevant. If you want to help out with the WikiCup, please do your bit to keep down the review backlogs! Mithuben Petit

Thank you for your edits and improvements on the article Mithuben Petit, is there a chance that you could work on it to take it to a good article? Thank you  FITINDIA  12:18, 2 August 2017 (UTC)

@Fitindia:, thanks for your suggestion. Bringing article to GA level demands long commitment to article and need plenty of reliable and easily accessible sources. I am not in position to commit single article too much time as I have lot of other ideas to work on. If you work to bring it to GA level, I would be happy to help. We need many more editors from India as too many topics are still uncovered so kudos to you. If you have any queries or need of help, ping me. Keep editing. :) --Nizil (talk) 12:44, 2 August 2017 (UTC)

WikiCup 2017 September newsletter

Round 4 of the WikiCup has ended and we move forward into the final round. In round 4, a total of 12 FAs, 3 FLs, 44 GAs, 3 FLs, 79 DYKs, 1 ITN and 42 GARs was achieved, with no FPs or FTs this time. Congratulations to

Freikorp
topped the GAR list with 8 reviews each. As we enter the final round, we are down to eight contestants, and we would like to thank those of you who have been eliminated for the useful contributions you have made to the Cup and Wikipedia. The lowest score needed to reach round 5 was 305, and I think we can expect a highly competitive final round.
