"that" vs. "which"

I reverted your good-faith edit in United States. There's a distinction in American English between these two relative pronouns. Also, in this case, "that" avoids two successive uses of "which" (used after a comma, with a clause) in the same sentence. Mason.Jones (talk) 23:48, 5 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Being involved in an edit war can result in you being blocked from editing—especially if you violate the three-revert rule, which states that an editor must not perform more than three reverts on a single page within a 24-hour period. Undoing another editor's work—whether in whole or in part, whether involving the same or different material each time—counts as a revert. Also keep in mind that while violating the three-revert rule often leads to a block, you can still be blocked for edit warring—even if you do not violate the three-revert rule—should your behavior indicate that you intend to continue reverting repeatedly.
You have reverted two times in the last handful of hours. If you revert an additional time, you'll have hit 3RR. I would advise you not to do this. Toa Nidhiki05 05:15, 9 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Hi, and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you tried to give a page a different title by copying its content and pasting either the same content, or an edited version of it, into Ba'athist Syria. This is known as a "cut-and-paste move", and it is undesirable because it splits the page history, which is legally required for attribution. Instead, the software used by Wikipedia has a feature that allows pages to be moved to a new title together with their edit history.

In most cases for registered users, once your account is four days old and has ten edits, you should be able to move an article yourself using the "Move" tab at the top of the page (the tab may be hidden in a dropdown menu for you). This both preserves the page history intact and automatically creates a redirect from the old title to the new. If you cannot perform a particular page move yourself this way (e.g. because a page already exists at the target title), please follow the instructions at requested moves to have it moved by someone else. Also, if there are any other pages that you moved by copying and pasting, even if it was a long time ago, please list them at Wikipedia:Requests for history merge. Thank you. Information icon Hi Plumber! I noticed that you have reverted to restore your preferred version of Armed factions in the Syrian civil war several times. The impulse to undo an edit you disagree with is understandable, but I wanted to make sure you're aware that the edit warring policy disallows repeated reversions even if they are justifiable.

All editors are expected to discuss content disputes on article talk pages to try to reach consensus. If you are unable to agree at Talk:Armed factions in the Syrian civil war, please use one of the dispute resolution options to seek input from others. Using this approach instead of reverting can help you avoid getting drawn into an edit war. Thank you. 🗽Freedoxm🗽(talkcontribs) 05:46, 23 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for uploading File:Ankit Jain.png. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. A tag has been placed on

section F9 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a copyright violation of https://www.ballotready.org/people/ankit-jain and has no credible claim of fair use or permission. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images taken from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing
.

If the image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use it — which means allowing other people to use it for any reason — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. The same holds if you are not the owner but have their permission. If you are not the owner and do not have permission, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for how you may obtain it. You might want to look at Wikipedia's copyright policy for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. — Ирука13 16:36, 28 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

United States

Re your Civil War caption: There is no reason on earth (historical or editorial) to interrupt the "Union" and "Confederacy" labels with the indented "Border states" label. That suggests that the border states were somehow dependent on, or an adjunct of, the Union itself. They were no such thing. These states were a neutral buffer between the Union and the Confederacy; many people living in the border states supported the Confederacy, while others backed the Union. Thus, that caption format is illogical and misleading, and I've reverted it. Reminder: You have already been warned this month about a possible edit block. This is not only because you have a tendency toward edit-warring, but also a habit of inserting inane, inaccurate, and needlessly busy text. Please be constructive, not inaccurate. You have been reported multiple times, yet refuse to change your behavior. That's a shame. --Plumber (talk) 23:37, 24 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Plumber. You are behaving very badly. You already have a "March 2025" warning (that's this month) that specifically states: "Your recent editing history at United States shows that you are currently engaged in an edit war; that means that you are repeatedly changing content back to how you think it should be, when you have seen that other editors disagree. To resolve the content dispute, please do not revert or change the edits of others when you are reverted." This is followed by: "Being involved in an edit war can result in you being blocked from editing." Please read it again. As for the border states: Those on the map you keep changing were slaveholding states that didn't join the Confederacy. If anything, these border states would be indented under "Confederacy". But any indenting here is just needless and petty intrusion. Leave well enough alone. Mason.Jones (talk) 00:00, 25 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
