How do I create an article?
See

to create one, and add references to the article as explained below.
How do I create citations?
  1. Do a search on Google or your preferred search engine for the subject of the Wikipedia article that you want to create a citation for.
  2. Find a website that supports the claim you are trying to find a citation for.
  3. In a new tab/window, go to the citation generator, click on the 'An arbitrary website' bubble, and fill out as many fields as you can about the website you just found.
  4. Click the 'Get reference wiki text' button.
  5. Highlight, and then copy (Ctrl+C or Apple+C), the resulting text (it will be something like <ref> {{cite web | .... }}</ref>, copy the whole thing).
  6. In the Wikipedia article, after the claim you found a citation for, paste (Ctrl+V or Apple+V) the text you copied.
  7. If the article does not have a References or Notes section (or the like), add this to the bottom of the page, but above the External Links section and the categories:

{{Reflist}}

I've reverted your change. All sources I've seen say Haeckel. - UtherSRG (talk) 12:17, 1 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Ok the sources of who erected the Amphicyonidae are definitely inconsistent, because from I've seen, some sources of the Amphicyonidae [1] [2] [3] say that it was Trouessart in 1885 who erected the family, but according to some other sources [4] [5] [6], it was Haeckel in 1866 who erected the family. I must've read the source starting that it was the former, and so I've decided to investigate the respective primary sources. According to the German source "Generelle Morphologie der Organismen" (Volume 2) by Haeckel, he does recognize the family "Amphicyonida," but he recognizes two genera: Amphicyon and Hyaenodon. Now according to "Catalogue des mammiferes vivants et fossiles (carnivores)" by Trouessart, the subfamily "Amphicyoninae" is recognized under the Canidae family, although it recognizes more genera that are today defined as members of the Amphicyonidae family (and misidentifying the hemicyonines as amphicyonines).
So as a result, I was incorrect, my apologies, but this is the result of using sources that state the Amphicyonidae as being originally erected by Trouessart. PrimalMustelid (talk) 13:34, 1 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you so much for the barnstar, I really appreciate it! I'm definitely going to consider nominating it for DYK, likely going for the fact that unlike other "even-toed ungulates," all species of Diplobune had entirely three-toed feet! PrimalMustelid (talk) 13:37, 19 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

DYK for Diplobune

On 16 October 2023, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Diplobune, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that the three-toed species of Diplobune (fossils pictured) were mammals of the order of "even-toed ungulates"? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Diplobune. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Diplobune), and the hook may be added to the statistics page after its run on the Main Page has completed. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Ballet

You just approved Appalachian Spring for DYK, and I looked at the nomination for the first time. Of the hooks, I find the original the weakest, tickling "Indian girl" a bit but not even supplying the knowledge that it is a ballet. Yes, it's an iconic ballet, and many reader will know that it's one of Copland's most successful compositions, but isn't the Main page for other readers as well? -- Gerda Arendt (talk) 07:17, 17 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

ps: The other hooks have the same problem of not saying what it is, but the original has the extra load of "Indian" - do we even say that without quotation marks in 2023? - And without context, it would mean "from India". - I'd chose the "Simple gifts" hook, as including substantially the spirit of the work, while the original just says what it is not. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 07:22, 17 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I did choose the "Indian girl" fun fact because I thought that cut content of famous works are interesting, and in hindsight, I didn't think about asking the nominator to correct the term to "Native American" for more preciseness. I decided to roll with that one initially because the reviewer suggested that either that hook or the popularity one was interesting, and I thought that the details of the latter one could be interpreted too differently from how it reads in the main text. The counted text count is 149 words, so the hook would probably need a rework if we change "Indian girl" to "Native American girl." Pinging @theleekycauldron for input and possible reworks of the hook.
Regarding the gifts hook, I'm not completely sure if it is consistent with what is suggest in the article's text. The article says, "Shaker themes are also heavily present in Appalachian Spring. This idea is found in the original "House of Victory" script, where the Pioneer Woman is said to sit in a 'Shaker rocking chair.'" Not to mention also that the reviewer considered the hook "less interesting."
By the way, we can just discuss these issues in the talk page of the DYK page instead of in my talk page. PrimalMustelid (talk) 09:09, 17 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

DYK for Anoplotherium

On 11 November 2023, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Anoplotherium, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that in 1822, the Paleogene mammal Anoplotherium commune (reconstruction pictured) was the first fossil species to be subjected to a brain cast study? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Anoplotherium. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Anoplotherium), and the hook may be added to the statistics page after its run on the Main Page has completed. Gordo, we hardly knew ye

Hello, and I come by to ask that you please reconsider your close of the merge discussion at

Gordo (dinosaur). Gordo has many notable points in his favor. He is one of the two largest specimens of his species, is the most complete specimen of the species, is the largest dinosaur fossil in Canada, and is the showcase fossil of the Royal Ontario Museum
(even mounted to be exhibited through the second floor series of museum windows). These seem a formidable foursome.

The close per "majority consensus" brings up an unusual fact: the members of Wikipedia's dinosaur project seem to object to additional stand-alone fossil pages. Their possible "I don't like it" reasoning, that everything in the Gordo page is already on the merge target page, diminishes the addition of very good new sources and text by Econterms, as well as the promise of new photographs, made and taken during an edit-a-thon at the museum during the recent North American Wikimedia Conference. It was nice observing Gordo with Econterms and meeting a young librarian from the UK whose panoramic photo of Gordo will be a nice addition to the page, or any page on dinosaur specimens and who expressed a longtime interest in becoming a Wikipedian. Would also like to point out that editor Bluerasberry was shown the changes and additional sourced material as they were being added, and quickly, through keen eye and site discernment, recognized that a save had taken place. This save would likely apply to probably most mainspace articles outside of a local consensus, and I'd ask that you consider re-judging it accordingly. Thanks. Randy Kryn (talk) 14:43, 22 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Here is the merge proposal. Please also see Gordo's talk page for the 2017 close to mainspace as well as the shiny 2023 North American Wikimedia Conference improvement template. Randy Kryn (talk) 14:47, 22 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
