Since you're using a lot of refs and I just cleaned up some of the Baha'i Faith by country article, I want to mention that you should try using the {{harvnb|last|year|p=}} template inside refs whenever possible. It cuts down enormously on the clutter. When you do that, make sure the citation is in the references. There are plenty of examples on the main

Primary sources

Hello Wiki-uk. Great work on the new article, but be wary of using primary sources such as Abdu'l-Baha's writings as sources. Articles should be based on secondary and tertiary sources. Copying within Wikipedia requires proper attribution

When copying within Wikipedia, this is supplied at minimum in an edit summary at the page into which you've copied content. Categories

Names of God in Egyptian mythology

I noticed you added this category to a couple of articles on Egyptian gods. Frankly, I don't feel it's a viable category, because it makes it sound like the Egyptians believed in a single god and that the gods that have been put in a category were simply "names" or manifestations of a single deity. The question of whether traditional Egyptian religion believed that is controversial. Even Atenism may not have been as monotheistic as it looks.

At the least, the category should be renamed, because mythology is not the same as religion. Amun and Aten were part of Ancient Egyptian religion, but neither of them were much involved in actual myths. A. Parrot (talk) 06:05, 3 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Garden categories

I'm having a great deal of difficulty following the rationale for many of your very extensive changes here. This area was already confused enough but your changes seem to make it worse. In particular, hiding all Islamic gardens under the very dubious & ill-defined category of "Paradise gardens" seems very unhelpful. The new category "Types of garden by country" mostly contains articles on individual gardens. It is generally not a good idea to split up small categories between countries, as this forces those searching to look at each individual category. Mulla Husayn

Allah-u-Abha! I was wondering if I could get some help expanding the Mulla Husayn page. I've worked on it a bit but about half the article was basically just copied and pasted without citation from the glossary of the Iqan. I only really have three books which go into any depth on Mulla Husayn himself (God Passes By, The Dawn-breakers, and Release The Sun, which tend to rely on the same stories anyway) I was wondering if you possibly had access to more diverse sources? Garden of Ridván

I'm thinking of submitting

DYK, since it's undergone a five-fold expansion since your first edit on April 21st—from 888 characters to around 4742 characters currently. However, around 790 characters were copied from the Ridván article, so we're missing around 489 characters to make it a true fivefold expansion (DYK rules state that text copied from other articles doesn't count for eligibility). I was thinking of writing a little more about the establishment of the Baghdad Royal Hospital and Baghdad Medical City on the site in the 20th century, but I can't find much in English about that. There seems to be one PDF in Arabic about the history of Iraqi hospitals, but I can't read Arabic and it doesn't copy & paste into Google Translate properly. Just throwing out ideas - a small section on prophetic understanding of the 1863 proclamation - for example:

1,290 Days

In "Some Answered Questions" (Wilmette: Baha'i Publishing Trust, 1984), pages 43-44, Abdu'l-Baha interprets the prophecy concerning the 1,290 days in the following terms:

The beginning of this lunar reckoning is from the day of the proclamation of the prophethood of Muhammad in the country of Hijaz; and that was three years after His mission, because in the beginning the prophethood of Muhammad was kept secret, and no one knew it save Khadijah and Ibn Nawfal. After three years it was announced. And Baha'u'llah, in the year 1290 from the proclamation of the mission of Muhammad, caused His manifestation to be known.

Note that the Master indicates that, in this instance, time is measured by the "lunar" calendar. Since the proclamation of the mission of Muhammad took place ten years prior to the Hegira, i.e., His flight from Mecca to Medina, from which date the Muslim calendar begins, the year 1290 from the proclamation of the mission of Muhammad was the year 1280 of the Hegira, or 1863-64 A.D.

There are references to 1,290 days in "God Passes By", on pages 110 and 151. In these passages, Shoghi Effendi confirms that the Declaration of Baha'u'llah in Baghdad, which occurred in 1863 (1280 A.H.), represents the fulfilment of the 1,290 days.

from [1] but it's probably the letter from the research dept could be used directly. Say something like Baha'i authorities have linked this event with the "1290 days" prophecy from.... Specifically that the dates are calculated, in typical Baha'i fashion, across religions.... something like that. There might also be a line or so about Mormon prophecies - need a better source but consider [2] as a starting point(the bit about wearing red dyed garments.) Hmm, not a bad idea, although that facet of the Ridván festival is probably best covered in Ridván; it doesn't have as much to do with the physical garden itself, but with the events of Ridván. What I've tried to do with the Garden article is to have it focus on the physical garden. I deliberately didn't add much more about the Ridván festival to avoid duplication with the other article. Maybe consider adding a section on the 1290 days to Ridván, perhaps as a subsection to "Significance"? Myself, I've been thinking of adding a section to that one about the festival as it's celebrated in the world today and historically, including references to the election of institutions during the period, and so on.
By the way, the Garden article as it stands has just passed DYK (!! goes so fast nowadays), which means we can take a little breath before continuing if we'd like ;) --dragfyre_ʞןɐʇc 13:39, 24 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
