  1. ^ a b The original short title of the Inheritance Tax Act 1984 was the Capital Transfer Tax Act 1984, but this was amended by the Finance Act 1986 on 25 July 1986. At the same time, the term "capital transfer tax" in the long title was amended to "inheritance tax".[6]
