In the place where the present church the Convent of San Andrés and Santa Mónica (which belonged to the Augustinians) was. The February 21, 1952 a fire destroyed the convent.[1] The July 24, 1955 was held the ceremony of blessing of the first stone of the new Shrine, the building was designed by Tomás Machado in 1953 and remained open for worship July 25, 1965.
