Title should be "Dominion Voting Systems v. Fox News Network"

Per

WP:LAWMOS, Bluebook style should be followed. There's no reason to leave off "Voting Systems". Brad (talk) 23:00, 5 April 2023 (UTC)[reply
]

There are three Dominion plaintiffs, one of which does not have "voting systems" in its name. Their only commonality is "Dominion." That's why I hedged on the title, but if there's a consensus to change it, that's fine. soibangla (talk) 03:27, 6 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, they're consolidated - Bluebook style is to use the first name. Brad (talk) 04:35, 6 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@DividedFrame: It appears that first-named plaintiff is actually "US Dominion". At least that's how it's listed as the "Full Case Name" in the infobox. Edge3 (talk) 02:29, 20 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I would not be opposed to a change Brad (talk) 02:31, 20 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
It's a tough call, whether to be formally legalistic or practical, but at this point I'd choose the status quo. soibangla (talk) 02:43, 20 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

What this is all about

Internal documents and communications reveal that Fox News hosts did not believe there was election fraud, and they believed Biden won the 2020 election. In spite of this they decided to keep lying to viewers.

Everyone, including the news team, was affected:

  1. top brass backed decision to keep lying;
  2. news team not allowed to contradict false claims;
  3. internal fact-checkers were threatened;
  4. all for ratings, Trump's approval, and to retain their far-right base.

Key Murdoch admissions.

Here are Murdoch's key deposition admissions about the case:

  • Murdoch seriously doubted the claims of “massive election fraud from the very beginning.”
  • Fox News gave a platform to conspiracy peddlers like Mike Lindell in order to make more money because, according to Murdoch, what matters “is not red or blue, it is green.”[*]
  • Murdoch had the power to stop Fox News from airing false claims but affirmatively chose not to, saying “I could have. But I did not.”
  • Perhaps most importantly, Murdoch admitted that some of the top hosts on Fox News had actively endorsed these false claims on the air.

Many of these admissions support “actual malice” by Fox News.[1] [*][2]

Judge finding that none of the statements were true.

There was a statement that the judge had determined that none of the statements were true. This cannot be correct. Some statements, including that Dominion Systems's equipment were used, were obviously true. I was unable to locate the ruling, as there is no quote. If someone can locate and verify the quote, please add the citation.Eni2dad (talk) 14:07, 19 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

This is stated in the "Summary judgement" section; Eric Davis ruled that it "is crystal clear that none of the statements relating to Dominion about the 2020 election are true". The source given is the NYT (https://www.nytimes.com/2023/03/31/business/fox-dominion-defamation-case.html), but other sources are out there:

Should the lead contain Dominion's annual revenue in the final paragraph, to compare it to the size of the settlement?

I put that information in the last paragraph of the lead and was promptly reverted. Red Slash 22:22, 19 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

If you can find a better source then I would say add it to the Settlement section. Mox La Push (talk) 03:56, 20 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Dubious Claim is Lawsuit Filing Section

Citing Bloomberg News, it is claimed: "In addition to Bartiromo, Dobbs, and Pirro, the suit also named primetime hosts Tucker Carlson and Sean Hannity." However, it seems that no actual individuals are named as defendants in the full case name here in Wikipedia or in the filed pleadings I have seen. These individuals are discussed but, in the legal context, "named" typically refers to people or entities formally listed as parties to an action. Mox La Push (talk) 04:44, 20 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

what "I have seen" appears to be contradicted by a reliable source: "Sean Hannity, Tucker Carlson also targets of lawsuit" soibangla (talk) 05:05, 20 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Chronology?

The Discovery section meanders chronologically.

The discovery section mentions events that occurred in December 2022, then August 13, 2022, August 30, 2022 and finally early December 2022. It would move forward in time if the first paragraph were moved last. Should I do this?

Also, there is information that could probably be deleted. For instance, the August 13, 2022 report that 'that sources "expected Rupert and Lachlan Murdoch, who own and control the Fox Corporation, to sit for depositions as soon as this month" ' but then later, more definitive, report that they would be deposed in December makes the earlier speculation less notable.

Section could be condensed to focus on what seems most notable in retrospect rather than what was reported contemporaneously. Jreiss17 (talk) 15:40, 2 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
