WikiCup 2011 January newsletter
We are half way through round one of the WikiCup. Signups are now closed, and we have 129 listed competitors, 64 of whom will make it to round two. Congratulations to The Bushranger (submissions), who, at the time of writing, has a comfortable lead with 228 points, followed by Hurricanehink (submissions), with 144 points. Four others have over 100 points. Congratulations also go to Yellow Evan (submissions), who scored the first points in the competition, claiming for Talk:Hurricane King/GA1, Miyagawa (submissions), who scored the first non-review points in the competition, claiming for Dognapping, and Jarry1250 (submissions) who was the first in the competition to use our new "multiplier" mechanic (explanation), claiming for Grigory Potemkin, a subject covered on numerous Wikipedias. Thanks must also go to Jarry1250 for dealing with all bot work- without you, the competition wouldn't be happening!

Just as an FYI, as part of New Page Patrol a new article got created as "Ralph kinnard" as a director. Per the MoS, I moved the page to the above linked article and I am giving you a heads up as the person how had previously speedied the article at the page. WikiCup 2011 February newsletter
So begins round two of the WikiCup! We now have eight pools, each with eight random contestants. This round will continue until the end of April, when the top two of each pool, as well as the next 16 highest scorers of those remaining, will make it to round three. Congratulations to The Bushranger (submissions) (first, with 487 points) and Hurricanehink (submissions) (second, with 459), who stormed the first round. Casliber (submissions) finished third with 223. Twelve others finished with over 100 points- well done to all of you! The final standings in round one can be seen here. A mere 8 points were required to reach round two; competition will no doubt be much more fierce this round, so be ready for a challenge! A special thanks goes, again, to Jarry1250 (submissions) for dealing with all bot work. This year's bot, as well as running smoothly, is doing some very helpful things that last year's did not. Also, thanks to Stone (submissions) for some helpful behind-the-scenes updating and number crunching.
Some news for those who are interested- March will see
Just a reminder of the rules; if you have done significant work on content this year and it is promoted in this round, you may claim for it. Also, anything that was promoted after the end of round one but before the beginning of round two may be claimed for in round two. Details of the rules can be found on
WikiCup 2011 March newsletter
We are half way through round two of the WikiCup, which will end on 28 April. Of the 64 current contestants, 32 will make it through to the next round; the two highest in each pool, and the 16 next highest scorers. At the time of writing, our current overall leader is Hurricanehink (submissions) with 231 points, who leads Pool H. Piotrus (submissions) (Pool G) also has over 200 points, while 9 others (three of whom are in Pool D) have over 100 points. Remember that certain content (specifically, articles/portals included in at least 20 Wikipedias as of 31 December 2010 or articles which are considered "vital") is worth double points if promoted to good or featured status, or if it appears on the main page in the Did You Know column. There were some articles last round which were eligible for double points, but which were not claimed for. For more details, see Wikipedia:WikiCup/Scoring.

Hey, if you're around, I found an awesome repository of Bowman Gum card images. Hi, Secret! I have recently nominated a new article to FAC: Afonso, Prince Imperial of Brazil. Unlike others I nominated before, this one is very short. This, I don't believe it will be a tiresome read. Anyway, I'd very glad if you could take some time to read it and share your thoughts about it. In case you're willing, please go to Wikipedia:Featured article candidates/Afonso, Prince Imperial of Brazil/archive1. Kind regards, --Lecen (talk) 22:05, 19 June 2011 (UTC)

Hi ... I'm pretty sure you read all the comments above the poll, but thought that given your comment (that we are not Baseball Reference) I should check. As was noted (and we are wikipedia), it appears rather the norm on wikipedia in other sports to reflect height and weight. You may still have the same view (and think that the other sports wikiprojects are all wrong), but I thought given your comment I would mention that. Something to make your life easier!
Hi there Secret! I've just come across one of your articles (or edits), and noticed that you might appreciate some help with references.
You might want to consider using
// Add [[WP:Reflinks]] launcher in the toolbox on left addOnloadHook(function () { addPortletLink( "p-tb", // toolbox portlet "http://toolserver.org/~dispenser/cgi-bin/webreflinks.py/" + wgPageName + "?client=script&citeweb=on&overwrite=&limit=30&lang=" + wgContentLanguage, "Reflinks" // link label )});
on Special:MyPage/skin.js, then paste the bare URL (without [...] brackets) between your <ref></ref> tabs, and you'll find a clickable link called Reflinks in your toolbox section of the page (probably in the left hand column). Then click that tool. It does all the rest of the work (provided that you remember to save the page! It doesn't work for everything (particularly often not for PDF documents), but for pretty much anything ending in "htm" or "html" (and with a title) it will do really, really well. So long! Hi. I think you would get far more support if you stopped talking about your personal life and how being an admin makes you feel wanted, and instead focus only on how you think you've benefited the project and how you would like to do more good work in the future in certain areas that interest you. I think all of this discussion about your personal life and how you deal with stress has unnecessarily detracted from your nomination. Finally, I was a bit confused by your talk page header where you say, "don't spam me with stuff like newsletters, and GA reviews". Most, if not all newsletters on Wikipedia are opt-in, so I don't know how anyone could spam you with one. And, I don't know what you mean by someone spamming you with GA reviews. - I saw your candidacy when it was already too late. In my opinion, it's unfortunate that you didn't make it. I have seen admins who claim to be happily schizofrenic or are proud to practice polyamory (although they are married). The community should have appreciated your openness, rather than bashing you for it: your openness was badly perceived: Trusilver said it all above btw. I wish you well and please focus on your personal life first, then wikipedia. It was the community's loss not to have you sysopped, not yours. I'll be happy to see you around, take care now. It seems to me that most of the opposers are to some extent addicted to Wikipedia, as they make too much of this website. They think that having stress while being involved in Wikipedia is not only ok., it's an essential part of it. So they have mental problems themselves. You have to wonder if we now shouldn't desysop everyone and start all over again with a proper vetting procedure. Count Iblis (talk) 16:37, 6 November 2011 (UTC)

- You did not use your sock as a preference – you used it as a means to votestack a deletion discussion, which amounts to blatantly deceiving the community. As far as proving to be a good editor is concerned, I note that you have been blocked 5 times (soon to be 6), the last three were due to sock puppetry. That gives us the indication that you do not care about our policies regarding account usage or anything else in that matter, just as with your reactions to my deletion of the article in question. –MuZemike 07:09, 16 November 2011 (UTC)
- That article should have been no consensus and you know it. It was very well written. All of the deletions were for notability, which I have proven to you the subject is, and references which are pretty correct if you look at the cached page. I'm beating a dead horse. Welcome to the 2012 WikiCup
Hello, and welcome to the 2012 WikiCup! The competition officially begins at the start of 2012 (UTC) after which time you may begin to claim points. Your submission page, where you must note any content for which you wish to claim points, can be found here, and formatting instructions can be found in hidden comments on the page. A bot will then update the main table, which can be seen on the WikiCup page. The full rules for what will and will not be awarded points can be found at Wikipedia:WikiCup/Scoring. There's also a section on that page listing the changes that have been made to the rules this year, so that experienced participants can get up-to-date in a few seconds. One point of which we must remind everyone; you may only claim points for content upon which you have done significant work, and which you have nominated, in 2012. For instance, articles written or good article reviews started in 2011 are not eligible for points.
This round will last until late February, and signups will remain open until the middle of February. If you know of anyone who may like to take part, please let them know about the comeptition; the more the merrier! At the end of this round, the top 64 scorers will progress to the next round, where their scores will reset, and they will be split into pools. Note that, by default, you have been added to our newsletter list; we will be in contact at the end of every month with news. You're welcome to remove yourself from this list if you do not wish to hear from us. Conversely, those interested in following the competition are more than welcome to add themselves to the list. Please direct any questions towards the judges, or on the WikiCup talk page. Good luck! J Milburn (talk) and The ed17 (talk) 17:55, 31 December 2011 (UTC)
