Recently active admin request

Hi Bagumba. I pulled your name at random from the list of recently active admins. Could you please post DS notices at User talk:Dan Wescher for the Gender/Sexuality and BLP topic areas? They have recently been active in adding BLP-related content to Kiwi Farms, which is covered under gensex DS. I'd post the notices myself, but Dan Wescher removed a recent post from me at their user talk citing "harrassment/spam", and I'd like to not aggravate them further. Thanks, Firefangledfeathers (talk / contribs) 04:51, 31 May 2022 (UTC)

@Firefangledfeathers I'm not active in that area or generally with DSs, but found the relevant templates and did the due diligence before going forward. Best. —Bagumba (talk) 05:15, 31 May 2022 (UTC)

June 2022

Hi Bagumba,

I figured I'd get a message sooner or later. Please try to make me understand this. Last week I was removing the duplicates. I liked them there, but I saw some pages didn't have them duplicated. If you check my talk page, 'Hey man im Josh' went over this with me and we agreed 'with the same link you just left me', that the duplicates were fine in the infobox. So now I did about 100 edits on players and you tell me that I should stop. I'll stop, no problem, but that repeat link should have a true meaning to it. I hate wasting my time, good faith or not, if I'm going to screw everyone up.

Maybe you can shed some light on this and drill it into myself and Josh's head that we should not do something that we think looks okay and is really not against the rules. Did you really mean this? nonstandard, unusual, inappropriate or difficult to understand When I first came here as an IP user and saw All-Pro listed twice, I understood it. It meant if I wanted to click on the line I was reading, I didn't have to look above it and click there.

Trust me, this is not a debate, I will not continue doing what I was doing.

Thanks in advance for your input on this.

John Bringingthewood (talk) 02:10, 5 June 2022 (UTC)

@
MOS:REPEATLINK is:

This is most often the case when the list is presenting information that could just as aptly be formatted in a table, and is expected to be parsed for particular bits of data, not read from top to bottom

Since items like All-Pro are grouped together on a bio's innfobox, I'd say that a skimmer is not going to miss it. To me, it's different than if we had a list of All-Pro players, but I might miss where one team was already linked e.g. 2021 All-Pro Team. —Bagumba (talk

) 02:31, 5 June 2022 (UTC)
Aaah, I'm glad I stopped typing and read your recent message. Now that makes sense that it's specifically mentioned for that project.
I appreciate your feedback with this issue. Maybe it was a color thing on my part originally, the blue looked neat and easy to read. The black sometimes runs into other mentioned info under it. Like the teams and positions a coach had coached for.
I think Josh and I believe one way and the NBA doesn't, lol.
Don't worry, I'm still going to stop doing what I did. You may see my name show up a lot, but it's all past edits.
Thank you for your interpretation on the subject. I'll see you around.
Bye for now,

Wow, I think we'll need to hold a town meeting regarding this. It would be great if that 'gray area' would go away. I kind of knew that this would eventually happen one day due to the interpretation of that link.
Nope, no revert necessary. There are probably over a thousand players that were never tampered with, I'd rather just leave quietly.
Thanks for the links, I'll read them and see how the other side lives.
Nice when people like yourself and Josh are around, you are both great at making people, like myself, change their attitudes (in a good way). Bringingthewood (talk) 03:18, 5 June 2022 (UTC)

When a trade or free agent signing happens please trust that the sources like Bleacher Report Or Adrian Wojnarowski tell the truth about what is recently happening in the nba

So when a trade or free agent signing is happening pls update as soon as when it’s first happening not when the actual teams say it because sometimes the teams tell them that later after people like Bleacher and Adrian had already was saying it already happened so while yes they can be rumors people like them don’t tell lies about trades they tell the truth about so don’t just call them unreliable sources for when they talk about it every single time and day when that type of stuff is happening so don’t do it when the team says it is happening so it when the actual sources do it first that’s what I want you to improve on Wikipedia. Thanks and bye. Jaydenstyy (talk) 13:42, 28 June 2022 (UTC)

Ron Harper Jr.

Hello again Bagumba: I saw you reversed Ron Harper Jr.'s page because he is only on a Summer League roster right now, actually for the Toronto Raptors. If you take a look at Mac McClung's Wikipedia page, it says he is currently a member of Golden State Warriors basketball, and he hasn't signed an official NBA standard or 2-way contract, but he is on Summer League Warriors Basketball. I think the two articles I'm comparing should be the same way, either both signed, or, both unsigned. I cannot fix any of the pages because they are currently locked for a week to prevent vandalism. I hope you can understand me correctly, but thank you for your accurate response and I'll come back tomorrow. 93.176.144.32 (talk) 20:58, 13 July 2022 (UTC)

Hi there.
reliable source would support its mention. Being on a summer league team is not the same as being in the NBA. The compensation is different, and the summer league ends after a few games. Regarding Mac McClung, that page is not currently protected. If it cannot be sourced that he's on an NBA roster–not a summer league roster, it should not say he's on an NBA team. Regards. —Bagumba (talk

GEOLINK MOS change

Regarding the linking discussion: Intially SMcCandlish agree with me to add. You agreed with the intent, but felt it was not necessary to say this in the MOS. Unafala made a common against the intent which you countered.

After two more days of no comment, I added the phrase to the MOS. My thinking was there were 2 supports, you were more or less neutral, and Unafala was a weak oppose since he didn’t respond to your last comment. Unafala reverted the change saying there was no consensus.

Next, NebY asked a question that I answered. They didn’t really express any opinion on the proposal. Then Tony added another support, making it 3 support, 1 neutral, 1 against.

I made the change again and Unafala reverted saying there were 3 supporting and 3 “doubting.”

Then NebY came back and made it more cloudy by saying we should’t change the MOS to just state that it applies to infoboxes too without simultaneously changing all the infoboxes that don’t comply with a project guideline, and there should be individual project notification on this discussion.

I’m a little frustrated here. IMO, template documention is notoriously out of date and incomplete and shouldn’t have a lot of weight here. As you said, “community guidelines take precedence” and this proposed wording is just re-enforcing that in GEOLINK (I came here in the first place after encountering an editor what didn’t accept that). Since you are the key person somewhere in the middle on this, what is the way forward? MB 15:22, 16 September 2022 (UTC)

Kirk Cousins Curse

I saw that you deleted the whole section for Kirk Cousins on the Sports Curse page. Something about "Fringe theory". All of the curses on the page can be seen as coincidental, but they all have a repeating pattern. Kirk Cousins' is not any different, and I and many others believe it has earned a spot. The only questionable part is the last blurb about "notjoeflacco" in my opinion. I was just wondering why you believed there was valid reason to take it all down? I see why sources for a curse like this can be unreliable when it is not as broadcasted as a lot of the other ones, but sports media outlets and the official league themselves would never post about one of their better players having this "curse" around them. That would be bad for business. As for needing multipole sources, because it is not heavily covered outside of meme pages, the only way I can think of confirming the curse would be to look back at every game that Kirk Cousins has started and won throughout his entire career. I know the lack of recognition and sources goes against my argument for having the curse, but the curse is very real in the hearts of football fans and "notjoeflacco" with his 116k + followers along with other pages and their followers who have used the idea. The pattern is very real, and I think it adds value to the page. H-Piece 01:02, 25 September 2022 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ahurrell61418 (talkcontribs)

NYC Sports Teams

For teams such as the Knicks and Nets, Yankees and Mets we can just put the city borough they’re based in as the five boroughs are commonly known enough. Also readers can see the New York context by clicking on those borough article pages. Do not unnecessarily make a reader chase links: if a highly technical term can be simply explained with very few words, do so.

@Ponyo: Interesting. Are you able to reach plain NBA.com? Sometimes editors have said some NBA links dont work in some countries, but it hasn't come up with this type of basic profile pages (yet?)—Bagumba (talk) 17:58, 19 October 2022 (UTC)
I can access the NBA profile from the link in your edit summary, just not from the templated NBA link in the EL section. Perhaps it's formatted incorrectly? What happens when you click on it?-- Ponyobons mots 18:03, 19 October 2022 (UTC)
@Ponyo: OK, the EL was using a defunct format. I fixed it for that page, but I suspect there are others. I typically just use the NBA link in the infobox (it's closer too). Best. —Bagumba (talk) 18:31, 19 October 2022 (UTC)

You should have checked the history before prodding. I have reverted to the pre-vandalism version. Please be more careful. Johnbod (talk) 23:13, 22 October 2022 (UTC)

Michigan-Michigan State

A group of related IP users continues to delete sourced content from Michigan–Michigan State football rivalry, specifically discussion of the postgame attack from last week. The matter was brought to the talk page where consensus was to restore. The IP nevertheless continues to delete. Can you help? Cbl62 (talk) 01:00, 7 November 2022 (UTC)

@Cbl62: I semi-protected for a week to encourage discussion, if needed.—Bagumba (talk) 07:28, 7 November 2022 (UTC)
Thank you, Bagumba. Cbl62 (talk) 10:37, 7 November 2022 (UTC)

On 22 November 2022, In the news was updated with an item that involved the article Dwight Garner (American football), which you nominated and updated. If you know of another recently created or updated article suitable for inclusion in ITN, please suggest it on the candidates page. PFHLai (talk) 22:20, 22 November 2022 (UTC)

colorado springs

Formal charges were filed, and they were discussed in the nomination. nableezy - 17:44, 23 November 2022 (UTC)

@Nableezy: I did see it mentioned, but I didnt see it in the article, nor any sources cited. This from AP said: The charges against Aldrich are preliminary, and prosecutors have not yet filed formal charges. Do you know of other sources? —Bagumba (talk) 19:01, 23 November 2022 (UTC)
They are preliminary because he hasnt been arraigned yet. But he is being held on murder and hate crimes charges. nableezy - 19:16, 23 November 2022 (UTC)
@Nableezy: As a couple of comments cited the lack of formal charges to downplay the significance, it seems like a minimum to expect any reasonable chance of establish consensus to post a blurb. —Bagumba (talk) 19:30, 23 November 2022 (UTC)
I think this was a bad close, I'm afraid. The formality of the charges was being thrown up as a procedural obstacle external to WP. The headline that was being considered was nothing to do with whether the suspect was guilty, arraigned, charged, or even arrested. The argument that it has a clear prima facie appearance of being a hate crime stands alone. GenevieveDEon (talk) 19:55, 23 November 2022 (UTC)

consensus to post, with many opposers basing significance on the death toll, some not even seeing the possibility that it was a hate crime being a factor. Others cited the lack of formal charges.—Bagumba (talk

I had figured it would stay open a bit longer, but it probably wasn't going to get a solid enough consensus regardless. I for one don't think it being a hate crime should move the needle simply due to the nebulous nature of what defines a "hate crime", but charges don't make it one, just like a lack of charges do not make a crime not so. The Pulse shooting from a few years ago, used by some as an example for posting, is a perfect example, where the suspect's motives are still debated to this day. WP:ITNA reads: If there is not consensus to post the item and the nomination has had suitable time to run (generally 24 hours), nominations can be closed There was no indication that sentiment was turning to gain enough support, barring a change in the facts.—Bagumba (talk

I'm not alleging improper conduct, it was just an observation. DarkSide830 (talk) 03:16, 24 November 2022 (UTC)
No worries. —Bagumba (talk) 06:13, 24 November 2022 (UTC)
