DYK for Zéna M'Déré

On 29 January 2021, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Zéna M'Déré, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that Zéna M'Déré led a protest movement in Mayotte in which women tickled their political opponents, forcing them to comply with their demands? You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Zéna M'Déré), and if they received a combined total of at least 416.7 views per hour (ie, 5,000 views in 12 hours or 10,000 in 24), the hook may be added to the statistics page. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Quite Confusing

I came across this article: Mutinta Mazoka & observed that it states she intends to be a member of the Zimbabwean national assembly but after a google search on her I found a source that indicated that she is already a member of the national assembly or at some point had been a member. I’m a tad bit confused, How accurate is that piece of information? Or perhaps do you think the source makes reference to her mother who has an identical name as she does? Celestina007 (talk) 01:20, 17 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Celestina007! I created both the articles Mutinta C. Mazoka and Mutinta Mazoka today, with the intent of mitigating confusion between the two; the former is a current member of the National Assembly of Zambia, while the latter is her daughter and a candidate for office. I included "For" templates at the top of both articles, so users can click from one to the other and confirm which one they're reading about, but if you can think of any other ways to clarify which is which I'd appreciate any assistance! It's definitely confusing that they have the same first and last name, although they have different middle initials and Mutinta Mazoka sometimes includes her husband's surname after her own. Women in Africa

Awesome that you've joined this effort. I've seen you add a bunch of new pages recently on African women writers ... I reckon you should just add them to the March list :) Dsp13 (talk) 17:04, 1 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, Dsp13, I was excited to learn about the event! I've never participated in one of these before, do I add my past articles under the months they were created, or under March since technically I've only just joined? Bookworm-ce (talk) 17:06, 1 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I was wondering that! Adding them under the months they were created might retrospectively embarrass the monthly 'winners', while adding them under March might make you an unassailable competititor for the upcoming month. Either way seems fine to me. It'll be nice to see them listed either way. @WomenArtistUpdates: or @Ipigott: might have views one way or the other. Dsp13 (talk) 17:12, 1 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
OK Dsp13, I've added them under March for now, but happy to change depending on what people think! I'm less interested in the competitive aspect and more interested in having my work included and tracked as part of a wider project so we know what progress is being made. Thanks for your help! Bookworm-ce (talk) 17:38, 1 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for adding your articles to Women in Africa contest! For tallying purposes leave the articles as listed (with creation date). We will only include the articles creatde in March for the March tally, but will include all the articles in the overall three month challenge. If you could add the tag {{WIR-186}} to the talk pages of the articles like this it will help with Women in Red's metrics. Thanks again for participating! Thanks for flagging, Celestina007! I created the page via an expanded translation of the Spanish Wiki page for her, which was mentioned as being created during an editathon in this article about gender and geography gaps in Wikipedia, funnily enough: [1]. She may be more notable for Spanish Wiki than English, but her scholarly output is primarily in English, and what makes her work unusual is its setting in an English-speaking sub-Saharan African country. Hope that makes sense? Bookworm-ce (talk) 03:45, 2 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
First off, thanks for creating the article (I’m sorry I didn’t say that earlier) and generally, thank you for all your efforts in content creation but unfortunately, I’m not sure I understand your drift just yet but please allow me digress a bit, I think that’s the problem with these editathons, it gives too much leeway for inexperienced editors to binge create non notable articles & then pass the workload to page reviewers who have to clean up after them. Generally speaking, I think it does the community a major disservice, as the cons outweigh the pros, but that’s a discussion for another day. One, that I would initiate myself. so back to what we were saying, in summary, she is supposed to be a professor or scholar right? Hi Whpq! Understood, thanks for flagging. I guess I'm a bit confused about the image process, I've uploaded a couple files that say at the source they are OK to use for non-commercial purposes with attribution, but the specific licenses aren't included in the drop-down list on the upload wizard? Should I just not upload any file that's any CC license other than version 4.0? I don't really understand what the "version" thing means. Sorry for the confusion! Hi Dan arndt! So sorry for the confusion. I was hoping to translate all three pages, should I re-make the disambiguation after the fact or can we hold off until I finish the translations? Shouldn't take more than a couple days. Thanks! Bookworm-ce (talk)
  • Thought that might have been your intention. It is better if you hold off the disambiguation page until such time as the other articles have been created. Blue links good red links bad. In the meantime you could move the Pepete disambiguation page to a draft version. Dan arndt (talk) 10:07, 22 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, Mccapra! The article wasn't translated, it's based on the sources cited—although it's definitely possible her obituaries were heavily based in turn on her Russian-language wiki page? I can't read Russian, so I just looked at machine translations of the Russian and Kyrgyz articles cited, as well as what English-language sources were available. Some baklava for you!

Hi thanks for creating Maria Fernanda Lay which I’ve just reviewed. Is it based in part on material from another wiki? If so there’s a template I need to add to the talk page. Thanks Mccapra (talk) 08:24, 31 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, Mccapra! I did look at some source links from the German-language article, but the text itself is based on my own read of those sources and others. Happy to add the translation template myself if you think it applies, but the article isn't translated directly, I just used some shared sources — let me know either way. Thanks! Bookworm-ce (talk) 05:48, 2 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
thanks - using the same sources but writing from scratch doesn’t require the template, no. Thanks for confirming. Mccapra (talk) 06:05, 2 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

DYK for Khairunnisa Ash'ari

On 14 March 2022, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Khairunnisa Ash'ari, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that women's-rights activist Khairunnisa Ash'ari was appointed to the Legislative Council of Brunei as its youngest member? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Khairunnisa Ash'ari. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Khairunnisa Ash'ari), and if they received a combined total of at least 416.7 views per hour (i.e., 5,000 views in 12 hours or 10,000 in 24), the hook may be added to the statistics page. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.
