FAC sourcing
Following the 6th Regiment Massachusetts Volunteer Militia FAC review, I've raised the issue of using older sources at Wikipedia talk:Featured article candidates#Older sources in history articles, although I'm not sure I've explained it as well as I could. I'm inclined to share your worries about this, but I thought it was worth throwing open to discussion ... whether or not anyone actually discusses. Sarastro1 (talk) 22:08, 30 July 2017 (UTC)

- Following a series of discussions around new pages patrol, the WMF is helping implement a controlled autoconfirmed article creation trial as a research experiment, similar to the one proposed in 2011. You can learn more about the research plan at meta:Research:Autoconfirmed article creation trial. The exact start date of the experiment has yet to be determined.
- A new speedy deletion criterion, regarding articles created as a result undisclosed paid editing, is currently being discussed (permalink).
- An WP:G13 to include all drafts, even if they weren't submitted through Articles for Creation.
- LoginNotify should soon be deployed to the English Wikipedia. This will notify users when there are suspicious login attempts on their account.
- The new version of XTools is nearing an official release. This suite of tools includes administrator statistics, an improved edit counter, among other tools that may benefit administrators. You can report issues on Phabricator and provide general feedback at mw:Talk:XTools.

- I agree, and well deserved beyond reviewing!! Ealdgyth's work is exemplary! I may not understand half the templates used, but they're impressive nonetheless.

This isn't usually your thing, but...
I know that video games are something you normally avoid like the plague, but... this FAC has six supports but isn't quite ready yet. Some issues have been raised (and it has got mildly messy), one of which is sourcing. I wonder if you could take a look? If it helps, I can offer bribes (although I'm not quite sure what). But I understand perfectly if you'd rather not get involved. Sarastro1 (talk) 20:58, 10 August 2017 (UTC)
- I'll try to look at it tomorrow... please don't bribe me with alcohol. Normally that would be a good bribe but... not this weekend or next. This weekend I have my high school reunion (with an open bar) AND a high school friend's father's Catholic wake (which will likely have an open bar...). Next weekend we're going to a renaissance festival so more drinking... Ealdgyth - Talk 21:05, 10 August 2017 (UTC)

Hello, and thank you very much for your review on the mallard I would make sure to keep the references proper from the next time. :) I needed some advice. For web citations like this, this publisher is not directly mentioned. So, could you tell me what to do in such circumstances? Thank you again, and have a great day! - Look at the bottom - there's a line starting "To cite this page". Taking that information, a good citation for that would be {{cite web |author= Rodriguez, R. |date=2002 |url=http://animaldiversity.org/site/accounts/information/Gavia_immer.html |work=Animal Diversity Web |title=Gavia immer: common loon (Also: great northern diver) |publisher=University of Michigan Museum of Zoology }} and put the correct accessdate in. - ACTRIAL, a research experiment that restricts article creation to autoconfirmed users, will begin on September 7. It will run for six months. You can learn more about the research specifics at meta:Research:Autoconfirmed article creation trial, while Wikipedia talk:Autoconfirmed article creation trialis probably the best venue for general discussion.
- Following an bot-generated report, updated daily, to help identify potentially qualifying drafts that have not been submitted through articles for creation.
- You will now get a notification when someone tries to log in to your account and fails. If they try from a device that has logged into your account before, you will be notified after five failed attempts. You can also set in your preferences to get an email when someone logs in to your account from a new device or IP address, which may be encouraged for admins and accounts with sensitive permissions.
- Syntax highlighting is now available as a beta feature (more info). This may assist administrators and template editors when dealing with intricate syntax of high-risk templates and system messages.
- In your notification preferences, you can now block specific users from pinging you. This functionality will soon be available for Special:EmailUser as well.
- Applications for CheckUser and Oversight are being accepted by the Arbitration Committee until September 12. Community discussion of the candidates will begin on September 18.

Crusade of 1227 - Sixth Crusade inquiry
Hello there! Got an inquiry regarding your edit here, from way back in 2008. If you have a moment to review, it is about your addition of the heading "Crusade of 1227–1229" and including William Briwere as its leader. I cannot quite find any references to a "Crusade of 1227–1229", and when I check through the source Tyerman, Christopher (2006) God's War, the events including bishop Brewer genuinely seem to be simply an advance force at the beginning of the Sixth Crusade, before Frederick departed. Please let me know if you agree? If so, I'll merge the two men beneath the Sixth Crusade heading. Thank you kindly for your time! Blue Danube (talk) 15:42, 8 September 2017 (UTC)
- I have not the slightest idea... that was over 8 years ago. However, looking at William Briwere, you can see that "Both bishops were influential advisors to Frederick II the Holy Roman Emperor." which is sourced to Tyerman's England and the Crusades p. 99-101. I would probably look there if you're worried about it. Vincent's biography of Peter des Roches would be another good place to start looking. Ealdgyth - Talk 16:23, 8 September 2017 (UTC)
- Got it; thank you. If I find evidence in one or both of those sources to support what I had read in God's War, I will cite it and make the changes. Blue Danube (talk) 19:04, 8 September 2017 (UTC)
- Having read chapter 4 of Tyerman's England and the Crusades as you recommend, and surveying the rest of the book, I can see that "Crusade of 1227–1229" is indeed simply Tyerman's appellation for the Sixth Crusade. With this in mind I've gone ahead and made the small heading change at List of principal leaders of the Crusades. Thank you for pointing out the source! Blue Danube (talk) 08:10, 10 September 2017 (UTC)

Sources request, mentored article
I realise that you receive many such requests, but I'd be very grateful if you could add Wikipedia:Featured article candidates/Rotating locomotion in living systems/archive1 to your review to-do list. This is a first-time nomination at FAC which I have mentored; it's a scholarly article, in pretty good shape, with several supports and is maybe just a sources review away from promotion. I hope you can consider this. Brianboulton (talk) 18:40, 7 September 2017 (UTC)

I have been away with a summer full of visits of family and friends. I did take a number of quick glances from time to time, and saw that you did an excellent job on the Holocaust page, not the least the handling of the disruptive "newby," bless her/his soul. PS As you seem to own the page, I don't think I'll contribute to it again. It still needs work, I can assure you.
- Adding a link to the 1691 edition of the vita as an external link would be fine. Using it as a source in the article is not so good, as we don't use primary sources or outdated sources. And saying that a source says that William was a friend of Roberts when that source does not say anything of the kind is also against Wikipedia policies. I fixed the typo. I don't own the page - as I did not revert your change of Rheims to Reims... nor any other improvements that are made to the article. Ealdgyth - Talk 16:47, 1 October 2017 (UTC)
