William T. Greenough article
I reviewed this article for DYK and I enjoyed it. I see that you're doing a great deal of writing for Wikipedia on science and scientists, so I wanted to make the observation that this article, at least, is written at a pretty sophisticated level. One measure is that its Flesch score is 31, which means that it is more difficult to read than 5/6 of Wikipedia articles. The original target for Wikipedia corresponds to a Flesch score of about 60, but few articles are actually written that simply; see Lucassen, et al. (2012). While the body of an article may need to be pretty technical, I'll make the suggestion that at least the lede paragraphs of technical & scientific articles would avoid complex sentence construction and technical terms (even with hyperlinks). - Thanks for the feedback @Easchiff: One of my writing faults is too-long sentences, so it's good to be reminded. I've broken up the lead a little more, which will hopefully help. Regarding difficulty level: Probably the biggest challenge in writing about scientists, is to get some grasp of their work and then turn around and try to explain it in a less technical way, so that someone who's not an expert can see why they were important. Far too often, I look at an article about a scientist and see where they were born, where they attended school, what awards they got, and nothing about what they actually did or why it mattered. I try to fill that gap and communicate some idea of the actual science, which by definition tends to be technical. To some extent, I would expect that a complex topic will involve writing at a higher-than-average reading level. I do assume that my target audience will have more expertise than the average Wikipedia reader, given that they're reading about a scientific topic. Comparables might include well-written science news articles, textbook chapters, and specialist scientific encyclopedias. That said, I don't want an article to be harder to read because I'm writing it poorly! so i appreciate the feedback. Mary Mark Ockerbloom (talk) 16:07, 3 February 2017 (UTC)

Ellen Thayer Fisher
Hi - I wonder if I could get you to review your article on Ellen Thayer Fisher with regard to her surname - especially the second sentence? I've found it hard to determine if her surname became 'Thayer Fisher' (i.e. effectively a hyphenated double-baelled surname) or if it is just 'Fisher'. The 2nd sentence threw me because you've said "Fisher Thayer exhibited her paintings..." - No problem, I've dropped a note to the website people asking them to update the information on the page so that it will be consistent with the statement on Wikipedia. I'm the staff person authorized to release images on Wikipedia, which are generally works for hire copyrighted to CHF, so I'd be the one signing the OTRS on behalf of CHF, which would be somewhat redundant. We've released nearly 1000 images so far; a OTRS has only been considered necessary for a couple of special cases, such as photographs of artworks which required an OTRS from the artist as well as CHF's approval for release of the work. I see you are trying to rehabilitate Ernie Lawrence. From your source:
Despite his assertions Lawrence was not truly apolitical. The funders who kept his cyclotrons running and with whom he rubbed shoulders were often very conservative men, and they influenced him. When Lawrence received a government Works Progress Administration (WPA) grant during the Depression to hire out-of-work shop craftsmen, many of his private foundation funders balked at the idea of being associated with a New Deal program. Ludwig Kast of the Macy Foundation, one of his largest funders, worried that if the WPA was overturned by the Supreme Court, the foundation’s and the WPA’s dual support of the Rad Lab would be incriminating and indicate "that [the foundation has] something to do with sinister communist tendencies." In response, Lawrence removed all acknowledgment of WPA funds from research papers involving work supported by the Macy Foundation.

- Hi @Hawkeye7:, I'm not sure which article you're looking at, but I wouldn't say I was trying to rehabilitate him -- rather I felt that there ought to be at least some mention of his not-very-pretty involvement with Oppenheimer's security clearance, since that was largely missing from the articles. The WPA events you mention would date rather earlier than the ones I was discussing, so I didn't include them. If you want to add something about them in an appropriate spot, I'm fine with that.
