Please do not use phrases such as “not notable” in a CSD nomination such as you used in:

User:Ykovalov/Eugene_Kovalov

if that has subsequently been deleted your explanation was “because Stale article - no RS - not notable subject.”

One of the classic admin test questions is about the deletion of an article where the subject is not notable. A non-notable subject can be deleted in an AFD but not in a CSD. Deletion under CSD requires a more stringent standard that importance wasn’t even asserted. See

I use that extreme example, and think that needs to be treated differently than something which asserts notability, and give references, but those references aren't RS, or there are no references, such as User:YippySkippyDoo/Minyan Shelanu - I tagged that one U5, since it is simply an ad for the group, but it does claim it is "the largest rabbinical college in the United States", which is grounds for notability. The others I've come across like that (without the promotional aspect), I've left alone, since I couldn't find any grounds for deleting them. Should I leave a note on the list of Stale articles? On a different subject, I do want to acknowledge that I have seen your name quite a bit on G 13. My general process is that when I see a G 13 I look to see who nominated it and if it is a new name I look at a little more closely but I looked at enough of yours that I’m happy to see your name as I’m sure it’s in good shape. Thanks Sphilbrick. My objective is to reduce the work of other editors, not add to it. I'll continue to work on the discarded drafts, now that I have some direction. I think part of the issue was that I felt that I couldn't skip a stale draft. Now, if I can't make an obvious call, I'll simply leave it and move on to the next one. Thanks again. Will you please stop using some weird syntax for speedy delete tags. We have just had to rescue

I thought that my user_talk page was quite busy but yours seems to move three times faster than mine. This page is ridiculously big. OK, disk space is ridiculously cheap and apparently endlessly expandable but spare a thought for people with slow connections or on small-screen hand-held devices. Hi RHaworth - Regarding your first message about the templates. Absolutely. I made those edits in an attempt to comply with Sphilbrick's comment above. Then I had to go do the day job thing, intending to go back and undo them at my first opportunity. Which this is, so thank you for cleaning up my mess. Won't happen again. Regarding archiving: I guess I could archive twice a month. I had done it more frequently, but got a few complaints from editors about not being able to find their discussions. But I don't have a problem with doing it more frequently. It's the traffic from being involved in AfC's and helping new editors try to get their articles in shape. Can you please help me understand why this page keeps getting declined? I have read all of the pertinent information on Wikipedia, and keep adding more references and links, but it doesn't seem to change the status. In looking at other musician pages, including some of the Wikipedia links to musicians that Bobby has worked with that are linked to his page, it seems that they use similar kinds of references, and similar numbers of references, and those have been approved for example: [[1]] [[2]] [[3]] Any help is appreciated.

other stuff exists, and isn't a very valid argument in this case. Because there are poor articles, doesn't mean that an article which doesn't meet Wiki's current standards will get approved. There are a lot of articles that were created years ago, when standards were much more lax. Anyway, regarding your article: YouTube, Facebook Area25, Musical Discoveries, Legends, and Spotify aren't reliable sources. City Paper is a brief mention, couldn't even find him in the philly.com reference, BMI is a simple listing (which shows he exists, but doesn't go to notability), and again I can't see where he was even mentioned in the Spin article. His own website is not independent, and discogs doesn't help show notability. Hope this gives you direction. Onel5969 ^{TT me}

Thank you Onel5969 for the quick reply. It is appreciated. I certainly understand the point about "other stuff exists". I was not suggesting that this article should be included because the others were there, but was just wondering why they were acceptable and this one was not, which you clarified. Thank you. (I certainly hope, too, that none of these pages are deleted regarding notability, as these people are certainly very notable within the music community.) Some of the challenges in finding references for people during this time period for Bobby McKeown, as well as the other people's articles that I used as examples, is that much of the reference materials available pre-date the internet, and are simply not available there. How can this challenge be remedied, not just for the Bobby McKeown page, but any other notable musicians pre-internet? A few additional comments and questions: It seems to me that notability for musicians may be established, in noting the other notable musicians that they worked with that are included in the articles, as if they were not of the same caliber they would not be working together. Is this that not considered true by Wikipedia? Also, a couple of the comments concerning some of the references I used. 1) RE: You Tube videos - The videos I used are historical documents, not just album material uploaded by fans. As these videos were made during a period when music videos were in their infancy, wouldn't these be considered notable and valid references? Most bands during this era had their videos funded by their record companies, unlike today when musicians can even create their own videos. 2) RE: Spin Magazine - I added page and other references to clarify where the information was. 3) Spotify - Since Spotify is not a company that can have music directly uploaded by individuals, so why would it not be considered a reliable source? / Thank you again for your time. WP:INHERITED. Simply being connected to notable folks isn't a sign of notability yourself. Finally, regarding sources not available on the internet, that doesn't matter. If you have access to older articles not yet uploaded on the internet, feel free to use them. You simply have to be very precise when citing them, making sure that you give all the information required. For example, for a newspaper article you would need: the name of the paper, the title of the article, the date it appeared in the paper, the page # on which it appeared, and the name of the author (if there is one - sometimes news articles will say something like "staff reporter" or "source: upi", which you don't need to include). Hi, would you be able to help me again as I feel a bit lost. I don't understand why this article keeps on being rejected. This time you mentioned the sources. Again I don't understand why many many other architectural practices such as BuckleyGrayYeoman are using the exact same kind of sources (mainly from the architectural world, even their own website!) - please have a look at Eric Parry Architects, Assael, Wilkinson Eyre, Jestico and Whiles, Stanton Williams... - some of them are even using only listing (I ve been told that it was totally wrong) and they have been accepted...Where is the consistency then here? I have simply given up! After a couple of attempts and being told that I have too much of a vested interest in the article, I have given up and decided not to pursue Wikipedia at this time. I have presented Value Driver Theory to several thousand people around the world; and Value Driver Theory has been embraced and is being used by many of these people. I will continue to pursue avenues outside of Wikipedia.

Hello O. I know you are aware of the "uncredited in italics" (wait is that an experimental film from the 1960s?) from the IAMMMMW article. I tried explaining things with a post here User talk:Thechirogarage#Italics. Please feel free to add anything to it if you think it would help. The problem grew a bit when I found the same edits being made by 2606:6000:6683:7900:1981:4145:925D:F20D (talk · contribs). I am hoping that it was a forgetful login but the switching back and forth here are worrisome. If is frustrating as most of their other edits are useful. You are wrong, I made an edit on fact and figure on the Fianna Fáil page TWICE for the number of TDs in dáil eireann. The number of TDs in 2011 was 166, the number of TDs in 2016 has being reduced to 158. The number of Fianna Fáil TDs now 44 as all the counts on the Irish General Election have being made. Hi Paddyfromthewest - Their website still lists the number of seats at 166, with the last election being for 158 of them. Do you have a credible citation showing that the number of seats has been reduced? Or are you simply going off the number in the last election? Perhaps some of the seats were not up for re-election? Hi, I did rework the sources. I rewrote them so they respect the basic rules of Wikipedia but not only ! I added several independent sources as requested (such as the FT, BBC radio or The Guardian) that talked about few different projects we are working on in London (The Passage, The Bishopsgate Goodsyard and Cromwell Place). I have added some information which I think might address the issue of notablity. Can you tell me if I am heading in the correct direction? Zhou Qi was an important commentator on Dream of the Red Chamber, one of the most popular novels ever written. She is not very well known in the English speaking world, but that does not necessarily mean she is not notable. I left a message about my entry on Zhou Qi--I have revised it but thought I'd talk to you about it rather than just resubmit it. I think I added material which makes the case for her notability, but if I didn't I'd like to hear from you what would make the case. WP:PEACOCK terms gives the piece a promotional tone which would need to be corrected. When you make broad declarative statements like "the most popular Chinese novel of the eighteenth century", and "are contained in the famous set of illustrations", you need to rework those so that they are neutral and simply give facts. In addition, there is some of what appears to be original research and supposition, in her relationship to Yuan Hua, which shouldn't be in the article. Onel5969 ^{TT me}

No matter, if you think it isn't notable enough then just delete it. The writeup is mainly based on website information, but formatted similarly to the other CMS pages. With regard to article 'New Bong Escape HPP'

Before making changes kindly make an effort to understand the background and provide proof as to why you are making edits to other peoples work. New bong Escape is the first private HPP in Pakistan. There have been changes made to the constitution of the country to allow for a space for private hydropower generation within Pakistan, solely due to this project.

If that is the case, then it seems that many of the pages linked from

Wordpress

have only a small number of independent references, the majority of cites being from their own material. Of the few independent cites on the Joomla and Wordpress pages, most seem to be from news websites or magazine reviews, which by WP guidelines are not 'gold standard' information sources either.

So, it seems you're asking me to do something which other editors are not doing.

other stuff exists. What most folks don't get is that Wikipedia is run by volunteers. There are about 2500 active editors who oversee more than 5,000,000 articles. And many of those articles were created when Wikipedia standards were lower. Every day we sift through the articles and delete dozens which are total crap. But there are probably still tens of thousands which need deletion. However, many which appear not to be up to snuff simply need more work at finding better sourcing. You point out good examples of articles which fall into both of those categories. One is already tagged for lack of independent sources, and I've just tagged the Wordpress article for similar reasons. Both of those it is apparent that they are notable enough, just need sourcing. The other one I've also tagged for notability issues. At some point editors will take a look at it, and if they don't deem it notable, will nominate it for deletion. Regarding the list, feel free to add to it, as long as the cms is notable - non-notable cms' will be removed (that's not me speaking, that was a consensus of the editors who work on that page). I am a volunteer. I have been an editor almost since the start, though I have not contributed much recently. So yes, I do get that.

If a commercial journal asks me to write an article, I will be told how many words, how many images and what sizes, and in what style. A set of quantifiable requirements. I would typically have a look through their publications to get an idea of what kind of style they prefer. If in doubt I might submit a sample and discuss the style with the editor. Provided I have followed the requirements, it would be rare for my work to be rejected after completion. Yet here, we are being expected to submit completed articles, which even if they are closely based on the style of existing copy, can be rejected for ill-defined reasons. For instance, what constitutes notability? I have no idea. The WP guidelines don't define it in any quantifiable manner, either. To have to write the article and then be told its subject isn't notable, is frankly too much of a waste of time. --Anteaus (talk) 19:54, 12 March 2016 (UTC)

Hi CLMorgenroth There's a difference between being significant in your field, and being notable. And, my apologies, but your article doesn't bear a very good resemblance to Elon Musk, which, while it has a slight NPOV issue, is very well sourced. I agree that Kerpen's article is a bit of promotional crap, but he probably just squeaks by on notability grounds. The issue is that he is an attention seeker, and has sought out media attention. Your article has YouTube videos (which are not reliable sources), interviews (which are primary sources, and not valid for notability purposes), non-independent sources (like his university pages, and articles he's written). Hi Vaibhav Palkar - There are still quite a few issues with it. I've declined it again. First, almost all the references are by a single author. This doesn't show notability, but one person's obsession with this subject. Second, there are tons of raw links in the article, which need to go away (e.g. Himalaya Publishing House). Third, the article is not written in an encyclopedic tone. There is a lot of commentary, a lot of peacock words, and a lot of advertising. Hope this helps. Hi Mader359. Dab pages are to provide direction to other wikipages, they are not supposed to be a glossary of anything which could possibly be referred to by the title of the dab page. If inland water transport had its own wikipage, and if it was clearly cited on that page that IWT referred to it, then it would belong on the dab page. Hope this helps. Hello, I'm very disappointed that you rejected my input. I understand when rejection was done on the first my input since I just started typing, so I have only one sentence without any references. But when they put into Draft, I had more time to write, and made the References section. But now, what is wrong now? I checked for the example another Russian artist, A. Belkin, who has only the couple of sentences, and his References section has 3 or 4 References which I could not even open, but still his input "pass" your acceptance. I don't know your art background, and specifically knowledge of Russian art, or you are just editor. My main point of making my input is our artists asked me to make my input into our Russian art, which is unknown from outside of Russia, which is in your Unofficial Art in Russia section. And because of my input people asked me to make my input, so people know that I/m reliable person, who has the good knowledge, and not just knowledge, but because I was a part of our art movement of 1970s. So I added there the "School of Sidlin". "Sterligov, "Arefief", and other sections there. My main point is about the "School of Sidlin", where I was the member of the group. Now only 4 students left alive, and because our school is very important from the art history point of view, it is under study in Russia, since our teacher was the student himself of the K. Malevich etc. And this is the part of history now. And since I knew another artists and their importance, I wrote about them too. In my article I included the References about the "School of Sidlin", where I could find. Remember, this is the Russian art, and many articles are written in Russian, which I can't use, since the reader can't read in Russian. So, I found and included only the References to our "School" which is written in English. But those info is very important, since for example our "School of Sidlin" included in the St. Petersburg encyclopedia, and I was mentioned there among other students of our group. (A.Belkin, or Alek Rapoport were not part of any group movement, but still they are included in your encycl.). Another my point, I included my printed 3 children's books, which I wrote and illustrated, and they were accepted in the museum, as other my works (paintings and drawings). Is it nothing from your point of view? What is more important for the artist than to be accepted in the museums? That's why I included this section there. I also divided the input into 2 parts, since I was living in Russia, and than moved to USA, so, it is 2 parts of the life of real person, and people in Russia are very interesting how I could survive. I did not know where I can put in the header or just mention, that I was accepted being in USA, as the member of the Artist Union of Russia (very important) and the member of the Writers Group here in Illinois, USA, so I just mentioned about it, but for the artist it's important, as well as I was included in the Best 10000 artists in the world by the art union. Yes, I'm not pretending to be Picasso, but I have my own role in the history.. If you can make the editing, and delete whatever you feel is extra written for this effort, them please do it. If you think, me, as an artist, does not have any "value" to be included in your encycl., than, delete it, even tough I disagree with it because it would be loss not only for my name, but for the history of Russian art as well. WP:CITEKILL, this happens frequently when folks are trying to establish notability, and they think having more citations is good. Pick the best ones, get rid of the more dubious ones. Hi Idgie7 - I think she probably meets the notability requirements, but the citations need better formatting, just #1, 5 and 6. Also, don't refer to her by her first name, instead only use the surname after the initial use of her full name in the lead paragraph. The career section needs to be referenced. Hope this helps. Hi 85.197.14.38 - Any assertion you make will need a citation. YouTube (and other similar sites like Vimeo) are not valid sources. Interviews are not valid to show notability. The subject is a well known film maker who has made significant contribution to African Cinema in the UK. I have added 7 independent and reliable sources like the UK Voice Newspaper which is the biggest black newspaper in the UK. There are also independent feature in three separate magazines which I have added. All of these articles focused on the subject. Can you explain why you think the references are not independent and reliable?

Doramensah1971 - Sure. Some are interviews, which are primary sources and can't be used to show notability. Some are press releases, which are invalid. Some, like imdb, are unreliable sources. Hello Can you help me with my attempt to make a page about Peter Mitchell (photographer)? This IS a notable photographer but there is a lack of information on him on the Internet, precisely because he has been under represented in the canon of British colour documentary photographers. This should change! He has been in Tate Britain, on the BBC and Martin Parr, arguably Britain's most famous photographer, has called the show at Impressions Gallery in 1979 "Groundbreaking". Hi Jessafair - I'm pinging the other editor who reviewed your page, since you left a message for them as well: Anarchyte. The issue is your sourcing, and the fact that the way the article is written, it simply doesn't appear that he meets notability criteria. Being part of a show at the Tate doesn't meet those notability criteria. Having his work as part of the Tate's permanent collection would show that he might be notable. Big difference between the two. What Wikipedia looks for are references from independent, reliable sources which are in-depth about the subject. The Aesthetica article is the best reference you have, and that is more about the exhibition, than about the artist. It does speak about both photographers, but even in that, the other photographer is given more play. Two of your other references are blogs, so they aren't worth much, since they have no editorial oversight. The Tate is not an independent source, since it's promoting its own show. Photoworks is a promotional site, so is not a reliable source. And the Leeds piece also appears to be a bio, most likely contributed by the artist itself - highly promotional. YouTube is not a reliable source. Some of your sources are little more than blogs, so they are not valid references (e.g. The Jiu-Jitsu Vortex and Vegan athletes). Could you let me know please what about the submission you felt was advertorial rather than factual ? The style and layout of the article was largely based on accepted and published articles for Pulsonix and Altium Designer amongst others. All of the software packages address the same engineering application area and I'd assumed therefore that a similar layout and style was correct.

Hi Iain-Cliffe - Articles tell us about a subject, ads sell us a product. Yours is a promotional brochure telling buyers about the positives of a product. Having said that, whenever an article is written about a product, it is going to have some promotional feel to it, since part of the article will have to discuss what the product is about. However, when an article simply reads as a brochure, that's problematic. Tells us about the product's development, give us negative reviews about the product, drop almost all of the Features section (which is basically the entire article - condense that section to one or two sentences). Hi Onel5969. I drafted the entry for Clara Read (child actress). I was essentially basing the draft on similar Wiki entries for girls who had played <Matilda Wormwood> in the West End. Are the references too poor, or is it simply that she hasn't as yet done enough notable stuff to warrant entry? I can see that you declined the submission for 247 Home Rescue as the references do not show the notability.

When we last tried to create this page we were advised of the same thing and so have worked to include third party references as suggested.

The references include a BBC Radio link whereby the company was invited to speak on air in regards to a recent charity partnership as well as numerous press coverage including The Lancashire Telegraph, The Bradford Telegraph and The Argus (which is a Brighton-based newspaper at the opposite end of the country). As well as this, the company has been featured in various industrial magazines such as HVP Magazine, Insider Media and Installer online which are all nationwide magazines.

Can you provide any clue as to how to adequately determine the company is notable? I know the guidelines state the references need to be third-party, independent sources which I believe these are however in terms of how in-depth they should be is difficult to do with a business. Thank you for your feedback and the offer to give advice. I reviewed again the guidelines after you declined the entry for "Jeff Papa." The denial seems to be based on either lack of reliable sources and/or lack of notability. However, the original submission cited to the Indianapolis Business Journal, The Lebanon Reporter, the Zionsville Times-Sentinel, several university and government sources, the Current newspaper, the Indianapolis Star, Indiana Public Radio, and several other sources. Each of those newspapers are print and online traditional newspapers ("mainstream" as per wiki definition) of general circulation. However, I have added citations to the article from WISH Television, The Flyer Group, the Washington Times, ABC NEws 10, Green Bay Press Gazette, Detroit Free Press, USA Today, Tallahassee Democrat, Indianatalks.com, Diario Co Latino, and IndyKorea Magazine (print and online). Many other can be found, but would appear cluttered unless needed.

On notability - note that Papa is credited with being the FIRSt mayor of Zionsville, Indiana, the architect of the FIRST and FOURTH government reorganizations in Indiana history (and recognized/decorated by the governor and state senate for that fact), responsible for the elimination of three township governments (FIRST and only time ANY have been eliminated in the 200 year history of the state), has served on a national board, is cited as first author on multiple peer-edited publications, and founded and serves as president of an international orphanage operation. Per wiki rules on notability, this seems to fall into "Major local political figures who have received significant press coverage" I certainly appreciate any advice you can provide on what else needs to be added to demonstrate the notability and the reliability of the sources. I just rewrote the page adding sources that wrote about productions that received national attention and cover a young professional theatre director. The Rap Musical Sanctuary, D.C. was novel and the first of its kind in this country. Please see Ralph Brown's wikipedia page. Please tell me how the productions cited are not notable. Isn't it customary that the director is credited. I am a Directors Guild of America member and advocating for more women to direct. I hope the span of the career of Gwendolyn Wynne notes a moment in history when women had to create their own companies and pursue their own productions. Just like the feature film Wild About Harry. Otherwise, myself and dozens of other women directors are rendered invisible.

Hi Gwenwynne, (and thanks for the comment, MelanieN). I think you may very well meet Wikipedia's standards for notability, but I think you need to be patient. I've nominated the article you put on mainspace for deletion, since I think it needs to be worked on before moving there. I also think you need to have an uninvolved editor assist you. I personally know several female screenwriters (no directors, though), as well as being a former off-Broadway (and off-off-Broadway) director, and would feel comfortable in helping you with the article. First, I think you need to go to the deletion discussion and ask to have it merged with one of the two drafts. Then, if you are interested, we can begin to get the article into shape. Dear One15969, I am working on the biography of my sister, the late orchestra conductor Isabel Mayagoitia. One of the objections to my article is the lack of inline citations. At present I have a few newspaper and magazine articles in the reference list. I could add a few inline citations, but they will not cover all the facts. (I of course have a vast amount of documentary evidence such as letters, concert programs, recordings and photos.) There are other newspaper articles (from reputable newspapers) that I have not quoted because they have a number of factual errors, such as giving wrong dates and places. There is little that is available online. In some ways this Wikipedia article is my attempt to set the record straight.

Isabel's notability is based not only in her musical talent (which is difficult to fully convey in a written medium) but in succeeding in a male-dominated field before Austria acceded into the European Union and had therefore to give women equal opportunities. It is easy to take for granted (I am a 56 year-old engineer) in 2016 that women can go into any previously male dominated field. But for the pioneers, like her, where there was open opposition to her even being present in the classes, it was bitterly difficult. And she has left a legacy, although her life was short.

WP:CIT on how to properly format them. Right now it is difficult for reviewers to ascertain their validity. Fourth, Wikipedia is not the place to correct wrongs. Wikipedia exists solely out of secondary sources, no primary research is allowed. If you can't cite it from a credible source, it needs to be left out of the article. Hi Mellydella - those were examples, not an inclusive list. None of the four you list are valid sources either. The first two are simply sales sources, imdb is not reliable, and neither is Klear. WP:SCHOLAR, which is what he would have to qualify under. Scholars, because of their lack of press coverage in normal sources, have been given an alternate route to show notability. Hi Wihackett - I'm not seeing any of that in the article. Which award did he win, and is it considered notable? He's an external member of a national academy, so I'm not sure that meets the criteria, other than that, nothing else seems to meet #3. And I don't see the named chair/distinguished professor in any of the citations. If he does indeed meet any of these, please provide a citation which shows that the assertion is true. Thanks for reviewing the submission! I just have a couple of questions as to how to show the company's notability. Merrithew has changed names several times in recent years, and the success of the company is very well-documented across a range of independent media under other names, namely the first one, Stott Pilates (the exercise method itself has its own Wiki page, and each of the founders have their own as well). It's the same company, however there are few independent sources that show this name change. How would you recommend I proceed? Should I include the resources that show the company's notability (though under a different name?).

Cardio First Angel article Hi, I don't understand why this article was rejected. 1 - It describes the function of Cardio First Angel, 2 - describes the importance of this medical device and it 3 - quotes two independent sources,(as required by Wikipedia), which are not connected to the manufacturer. One is a journalist and the other one is an independent clinical trial.

In this case I have no idea what article would be acceptable. Can you give me some idea or be specific what is acceptable? Thanks

Hi Animall - Softpedia is not a valid source. The other is the clinical trial. Wikipedia requires notability for an article to be created. To show notability, you'll need about 3 references which go in-depth about the subject, from independent, reliable sources. Usually that means newspapers, magazines or books. Hi Mister Lionel - And thanks for opening up a discussion. First, it's a no-no to simply removing tags from an article which you don't agree with. Your removal of the tags regarding organization and the lead were fine, since you fixed those issues. Regarding the remaining tags and your question above: this happens a lot when dealing with someone who has borderline, if any, notability. Rhodes is accomplished, no doubt, but that's not the same as notability. And since he's not that notable, in writing the article, in order to make him appear notable, it comes off as promotional. For instance, dropping in superlative quotes about his non-notable books is highly promotional - it reads like a dust cover of the book. Especially when you quote from barely notable references such as Starburst. Searches on News sites return nothing to show he's notable. Books returns some hits, so he's definitely written some books, but I'm not sure if any of them are notable. As a scholar, he doesn't come close to meeting that notability criteria. I only tagged the article for notability doubts because I didn't want to go through the cites in the article, many of which are malformed (e.g. all the "See, for example..." and citation #9). In looking at the existing cites, they don't appear to meet the notability requirements, which would mean that there are several in-depth, from independent reliable sources, which talk about him, not about his books. So that's what we are looking for plus some citation errors. I'll see what I can do to correct some of this. The problem might be some of Dr. Rhodes' work is so specialized that it sometimes sinks into more obscure circles. Again, thank you for the help. I may have more questions later if you don't mind.

other stuff exists. Your article simply does not have enough, let me correct that, any, in-depth references from independent reliable sources. The first source, which you incorrectly to Stowell (the actual author is Will Crutchfield), gives a two-line brief mention in an enormous article to Stowell. That citation also doesn't back up the assertion made in the sentence preceding it. The second citation is a nice citation about one of Stowell's works, but not about him specifically.
