The Greatest [football] Game Ever Played" was battled out there, John Philip Sousa lead a band there, George Costanza worked there; but what do all these events have in common? They fail to reach the level of greatness that the baseball that was played there did.
In 1923, a man named New Yankee Stadium. So I'll sum it up by saying that we can remember these great moments by adding them to this place we've gathered at for future generations to read about, to learn about, to dream about; but more importantly we can watch tonight and we can remember how baseball is unlike anything else that we will encounter in our lives. — Blackngold29

We apologize for not sending out our August newsletter, we have tried to cover some events of the month in this issue. The playoffs have started! The Dodgers and Phillies have won their respective Division Series and will face off in the NL Championship Series . Both series in the American League have yet to be finished. - Articles for the more popular and "star" players of the league need to be expanded, have citations added to them and hopefully we can get some GA'sout of them.
- All articles on active players and coaches need to be updated with stats, news, and all things important. (Note: For stats it's best to use ArenaFan.)
- Also, we NEED to get things done so we can take them off of the to do list.
- The Kansas City Brigade will holdopen tryouts on Sunday, October 12, beginning at 8a.m. at the Kansas City SoccerDome.
- The Utah Blaze will be holding a player combine on October 17, at the University of Utah.
- DUI Manslaughtercase. He is currently serving the maximum sentence for the crime, 15 years in state prison. It was also his fifth DUI conviction since 1990, first since 1993.
- In the NFL, Matt Millen has been removed as the Detroit Lions' team president, and CEO.
- Billy Parker of the New York Dragons, alongside new Dragons Advisory Board members Kerry Rhodes of the New York Jets and Danny Clark of the New York Giants, unveiled the teams new logo on September 23, 2008.
- On September 22, it was announced that Toledo, Ohio will receive and af2 team begining in 2010.
- Dean Cokinos has agreed to a two year contract to remain the head coach of the Tennessee Valley Vipers.
- On September 24, 2008 the Colorado Crush have hired Chris MacKeown as their new offensive coordinator.
- On September 3, 2008 the DL James Baron.
- The 2005 fifth round pick Larry Brackins, however he was released before the start of the regular season and then on September 2, signed to their practice squad.
- Thursday September 11, 2008 the Chris Onorato.
- On Monday September 15, 2008 the FB/LBChris Avery.
- On Wednesday September 17, 2008 The Los Angeles Avengers waived DL Joe Bradley.
- The season's coach of the Year for the South Georgia Wildcats. He is the son of former New England Patriots player Darryl Stingley, as well as an AFL defensive back.
- On September 19, 2008 the Rattlers released FB/LB Dane Krager, and waived LB Lance Mitchell.
- On September 22, 2008 the Arizona Rattlers activated DL Darrell Shropshire, and placed DL Mkristo Bruce on the exempted list.
- Also on September 22, the VooDoo activated OL Rob Hunt. The Soul activated OL Phil Bogle and WR Larry Brackins. The SaberCats activated WR Burl Toler. The Tampa Bay Storm activated WR Hank Edwards. The Blaze activated OL Jesse Boone and DL Maurice Fountain.
- On September 24, 2008 the VooDoo traded future considerations to the Philadelphia Soul for WR Michael Lewis.
- October 1, 1955 - Baltimore Colt Alan Ameche became the first rookie in NFL history to rush for more than 100 yards in his first two games after totaling 153 yards against Detroit. He had 194 yards in his debut against Chicago.
- catches as the Chicago Cardinals defeated the Baltimore Colts 55-13. The record was tied in 1981 by Kellen Winslow and again in 1990 by Jerry Rice.
- Columbus Panhandles 14-0 and the Rock Island Independents defeated the Muncie Flyers45-0 in the first ever games between NFL (then the American Pro Football Association) clubs.
- interception a record-tying 103 yards for a touchdown against Buffalo, tying the mark set by Vencie Glenn against Denveron November 29, 1987.
- October 5, 1986 - Eric Dickerson ran for an overtime-record 42-yard touchdown as the Los Angeles Rams defeat the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 26-20.

The current article count is listed below, I have placed the forumla that is on the project page that is updated everytime the bot is run and it tallies up our articles and where they are and lists them as seen below, so that no one has to worry about making sure it's updated manually before the newsletter is sent out. It would be greatly appreciated if anyone could help expand and/or source an article or two. A list is provided in the stub-class category of stub articles that need to be improved, and some should be fairly easy.

- I hope everyone had a safe and fun Halloween.
-Needs-
- Articles for the more popular and "star" players of the league need to be expanded, have citations added to them and hopefully we can get some GA'sout of them.
- All articles on active players and coaches need to be updated with stats, news, and all things important. (Note: For stats it's best to use ArenaFan.)
- Also, we NEED to get things done so we can take them off of the to do list.
-New-
- Standardized roster templates have been created for ALL AFL teams.
- New tables have been added to each team article for coaches. It is broken down into six columns. Column one is for the name of the FBcoach, with a / between each position. Also, the list should start with Offensive Coordinator, then Defensive Coordinator. Place line break (<br>) after each coaching staff members name, and between coaching positions (should the column become wider than what looks good). Column six is for notes about the head coach during their tenure with that team only. Lastly, be sure not to make the columns too wide, if the column becomes wider than what looks good, place a line break (<br>) in the sentence/note.
- On November 22, the Georgia Force will host tryouts at their practice facility in Flowery Beach, Georgia.
- Quarterbacks Matt D'Orazio and Mark Grieb are two of the numerous veteran free agents during this offseason.
- Quarterback Joe Germaine of the Utah Blaze opted of his contract in hopes to sign with the Arizona Rattlers, to be near his family.
- The af2, have changedtheir name to the Albany Firebirds.
- Though Chris Vallozzi owns the Milwaukee Iron in 2009, will in no way affectthe Firecats. His older brother Drew, is behind the new Iron franchise.
- The Macon Knights may be returing in af2 as early as 2009, but no later than 2010.
- New Orleans VooDoo owner Tom Benson announced in a letter to interm comissioner Ed Policy that the franchise would be ceasing operations.
- It is speculated that since the New Orleans VooDoo have folded, that new Derek Stingley will return to the South Georgia Wildcatsof af2.
- The Utah Blaze player tryouts attracted, as head coach Ron James stated "high-quality" players. Some of whom have NFL experience, such as Reno Mahe, Ade Jimoh, and Toniu Fonoti.
- The Amarillo Dusters have namedBen Bennett their new head coach.
- On October 10, AFL owners approved a nonbinding letter of intent, that called for Los Angeles-based Platinum to invest $100 million into the league. A step that, as it stands, will dramatically alter the financial and managment structure of the two decade old league.
- Offensive Coordinatorin 2009.
- Tiffany Worsham, V.P. of Business Development for af2 has contradicted the claims made by D. J. Daniels, the investor interested in bringing a team back to Macon, Georgia. Claiming that there is "no reason for any optimism." She also went on to say that "serious conversations about the subject ended a few months ago."
Derek Stingley, it was announced, is a candidate for the head coaching position with theAlbany Firebirdsof af2.- Quarterback Ryan Vena will return to the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Pioneers.
- Lawrence Samuels, the AFL's career receptions leader (1,020) was hospitalized on Thursday, October 23, after a severe car crash.
- Just days after a severe car crash, wide receiver Lawrence Samuels was listed in fair condition.
- The AFL announced that the Western Divisionto replace the New Orleans Voodoo.
- Steve Clary, Jim Guy Tucker two owners of the Arkansas Twisters have decidedto forego their shares of the team, as "they both were too busy with their other businesses."
- On November 22, the Twisters will hold a tryouts.
- Derek Stingley, has removed himself from the list of candidates for the head coaching position of the af2's Albany Firebirds, as he has "another coaching opportunity closer to his family's home in Baton Rouge, La."
- The Colorado Crush have hired Tommy Johnson as their new Defensive coordinator.
- The Offensive lineman William Obeng to the Columbus Destroyersfor Offensive lineman Howard Duncan.
- The Free safetyChris Hemphill.
- The Oklahoma City Yard Dawgz and owner Phil Miller announced the hiring of Dan Kilgras as the new Team President.
- It was announced that Leslie Lee, will not return as the head coach of the Boise Burn of af2.
- On September 25, the Chicago Rush released Quarterback Sherdrick Bonner.
- On September 30, the Cleveland Gladiators released Offensive lineman Tango McCauley.
- The University of Nevada-Reno. He spent the last three weeks of the 2008 AFL season with the SaberCats.
- On October 2, the Tampa Bay Storm released Wide Receiver Terrill Shaw.
- On October 3, the VooDoo released WR Jeremiah Pope. The Georgia Force released DL R-Kal Truluck.
- On October 7, with the Spokane Shock.
- On October 10, the Grand Rapids Rampage exempted Wide Receiver Eric Fowler.
- On October 13, the Los Angeles Avengers waived Quarterback Sam Keller. The VooDoo activated OL Isaiah Ross.
- The Columbus Destroyers have hired Green Bay Blizzard Defensive coordinator Doug Lytle to the same position.
- The Tri-Cities Fever have re-signed wide receiver Phil Goodman, which makes him the first returning player from the 2008 Fever.
- On October 15, the Philadelphia Soul released Defensive Back Brandon Williams.
- Offensive Coordinator.
- On October 20, 2008 the Kansas City Brigade waived Quarterback Quincy Carter.
- The Brigade have also hired Skip Foster as their new Offensive Coordinator.
- The Oklahoma Yard Dawg's have been assigned quarterback Robert Kent, fullback / linebacker Freddie Rollins, and defensive back Andre Burns.
- Offensive Lineman Lorenzo Breland has been added to the 2009 roster of the Spokane Shock.
- The Shock have also added former Oklahoma State Linebacker Rodrick Johnson.
- Wide receiver Manwell Talbert as been assigned to the Bossier-Shreveport Battle Wings.
- Los Angeles Coliseum.
- Boston Redskinscombine to throw an NFL record 11 interceptions.
- November 4, 1984 — The Seattle Seahawks set an NFL record by returning four interceptions for touchdowns in a 45-0 win over the Kansas City Chiefs. Dave Brown scored twice while Kenny Easley and Keith Simpson also scored a touchdown each. All of the scores were longer than 50 yards.
- November 6, 1995 — Art Modell announced that he was moving the Cleveland Browns to Baltimore for the 1996 season.

- November 26, 1989 — L.A. Rams wide receiver Willie "Flipper" Anderson recorded 15 receptions for an NFL record 336 yards and a touchdown as the Rams rallied for a 20-17 overtime win over the Saints.

The 2009 AFL Dispersal draft has been moved from December 2, to December 3. Then, on December 3, it was announced that the dates for the Dispersal Draft and the beginning of the free-agent signing period had been rescheduled for Tuesday, December 9 and Thursday, December 11, respectively.- It was announced on December 1, that all 17 AFL teams would be holding offseason player tryouts.
- There are rumors circulating that the AFL could suspend operations for the 2009 season, or fold all together.
- The Orlando Predators have been sold to one of their former owners, Brett Bouchy.
- The 2009 AFL Dispersal Draft, as well as the start of the free agent signing period, have both been postponed "until further notice from the league." The Columbus Destroyers are the holders of the first overall pick in the draft.
The Board of Directors voted NOT to cancel the2009 Arena Football League season, as of right now.- On December 15, the AFL Board of Directors voted to cancel the 2009 AFL season.
- ArenaFootball.com counted down the 20 best games in the history of the AFL, as voted by the 20th Season Historical Committee. They are presented as follows:
- 20: ) - In the league’s second game, ever, a thrilling end of regulation leads to the first-ever overtime game. Denver’s Stuart Mitchell hits Durell Taylor with a 39-yard touchdown pass, and Denver’s defense holds Chicago to a stop for the win.
- 19: Chicago 64, Washington 61 (July 16, 1987) - In the AFL’s first season, Washington’s Dwayne Dixon catches an AFL record 20 passes in a loss to Chicago. The stands to this day.
- 18: Albany 61, Nashville 59 (July 9, 1999) - Eddie Brown’s last second 35-yard touchdown reception from Mike Pawlawski wins the game for the Firbirds.
- 17: Iowa Barnstormers 59, Orlando Predators 50 (June 21, 1996) - Barry Wagner records an AFL record 434 all-purpose yards for the Predators in a tough loss to the Barnstormers.
- 16: Tampa Bay Storm 57, Albany Firebirds 53 (June 29, 1991) - Tampa Bay scored 21 points to overcome a 17-point fourth-quarter deficit.

This is the first big summer Wiknic since the 2019 edition and will feature an edit-a-thon focused on Governors Island and ArtCrawl Harlem, Depths of Wikipedia (recently of perpetual stew fame), as well as plenty more food topics drawing on the potluck ethos. A documentary filmmaker will be in attendance, working on Rabbit Hole, which aims to document Wikipedia's community to showcase how our network tackles important questions about how history is recorded. They will be in attendance to film snippets of this gathering for the documentary. It is completely optional to be a part of the film and there will be protocols in place if you wish to not be filmed. ![]() You are invited to the picnic anyone can edit on Governors Island, at 403 Colonels Row by the ArtCrawl Harlem house. This is a sequel event to the 2023 Governors Island Wiknic and will feature a workshop led by AfroCrowd at the ArtCrawl Harlem house. We'll also encourage collaboration for wiki-coverage of ArtCrawl Harlem's current exhibition at Governors Island. All are welcome, new and experienced! Bring a picnic blanket and some potluck, as well as some sunscreen! We'll also provide sandwiches for everyone, and maybe some NYC pizza too, but we encourage you to bring your own favorite dishes to share, especially for those food cultural topics you would like to improve on Wikipedia.
