I was actually...

Refering to it being an odd thing to tag cn due to the fact hat it would be almost as easy to find a source for that info as it would be to tag it with a sn tag, not over if it needed a citation or not, :) (I thought Seicer had tagged it and I was ribbing him. I'd never tease a newer user in such a manner, especially since citation templates can be messy)

Anyhow, I found one from WSAZ that says it all and I will be adding it to the article in a second. Cheers. youngamerican (ahoy hoy) 23:24, 23 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Actually, I was just going through the article doing other grammar editing, etc. I noticed it and tagged it since, at the time, I did not have the time to find a source. I am doing this in between other "jobs" and committments. Vbofficial 23:26, 23 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

And a fine job of it you are doing. Keep up the good work. youngamerican (ahoy hoy) 23:28, 23 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Neutrality?

Why the Neutrality tag at Volleyball in the United States? Of the various problems that article has, I don't see NPOV as one (other than its inherent US focus which isn't an issue per the title/subject). BTW, when I talked about adding HS/college info/links, I meant to broader/higher levels than just Ohio orgs. AUTiger » talk 04:17, 27 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

As for the links...I was just adding to the list since there was nothing on the site at the moment. It had to start somewhere. As for the neutrality...the article has a lot of cleanup work or desperate need of citations/sources before it becomes a good article. At this point it is basically opinions and editorials. The articles needs to be factual and written in material suitable for an encyclopedia. Vbofficial 04:20, 27 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
The article is looking much better; thanks for all the work! As for the cites/references on the diffs between men's and women's programs, I know the NCAA website has a participation report that lists the number of programs and athletes competing in all sports. I imagine there is someplace you could find the same info for HS. I know the Title IX statement in the article used some weasel words, but even though was uncited, there was truth in it. SEC (and believe NCAA now too) rules require two more women's sports than men's at each school. Also the men's popularity varies regionally, although finding published references talking about that are probably difficult. AUTiger » talk 21:37, 27 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on

criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a very short article providing little or no context to the reader. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify
their content.

Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself. If you plan to expand the article, you can request that

talk page. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Kevin 03:07, 12 July 2007 (UTC)[reply
]

I removed the speedy tag on the article in question, since you have done a good job making it into a nice little stub, complete with references. Good work. A tip for the future.... it is probably better not to save a new page with only a word or two on it... either wait till you have a bit more information or add a tag such as {{ Underconstruction }} so that people give you some time to get things done before putting annoying tags on the article! Thanks again for your contributions. Slp1 03:25, 12 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

RE: RHLSD & RHSHS

Hello - I am somewhat new here - and my contributions are only the Rock Hill Sr. HS, and the RHLSD - so I am uncertain on some things here, including the citations, and I am very glad that you pointed them out. The citations will, in my opinion, reflect well on the district, as they are proof that I am not simply making them up. I added the sources for the Rock Hill Senior High School and the Rock Hill Local School District, as per the tags that you made on the pages. I am not sure if I organized them satisfactorally, but they are there, all that were pointed out, with the exception of one. The one in question is the last on the Rock Hill Senior High School page, where it is needed for " The school song is of original tune, composed by the school's first band director, Mr. John McCoy. The lyrics to the school song were written by Betty Adams. " I could not find anywhere on the internet for this specific piece of information, however, I do have it in programs from current RHSHS football games. Should I cite that? Thanks again for listening, and keeping our district's page accountable. Rhlsd 07:15, 15 July 2007 (UTC)

At least you are trying. To make the information on the Rock Hill sites more valuable and more reliable, try to find third party sources. It can be hard at times, especially in our area where newspapers have not done a great job of archivng articles, etc. Not all of my edits and writing meets other approval as well. It is an on-going process. I have created cites for Clay High School and the schools within the district and the Southern Ohio Conference. I am also trying to update, expand, and improve most of the sites of the schools within the conference. It is a long process. Of course, I am fairly new as well, and I am trying my hand at editing and contributing with differing degrees of sucess.

All those pictures

You keep uploading more and more good pictures! Thanks — they look great! Just one question for you: would you be willing to upload future pictures to the Wikimedia Commons, so that they're more accessible? Nyttend 02:14, 16 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, I'm a newbie and a little naive. I thought by uploading pictures, I was loading the pictures to a common area? Instructions. Vbofficial 02:16, 16 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Well, anybody looking at the English Wikipedia can use the picture. However, nobody else can. For example, some time ago, I found a picture of a town in Kansas, on the German Wikipedia. Because it wasn't on the Commons, I couldn't possibly add it to the same town's article on the English Wikipedia, so instead I had to download it and upload it to the English Wikipedia before adding the image to the page. If the picture had been on the Commons, all I would have had to do is add the image to the page the same way that you do with an image uploaded to Wikipedia.
It's quite easy to upload to the Commons. Just go to the Commons (there's a link at the bottom of the Main Page) and create an account, and then begin uploading files as if it were on here. Please just remember that (1) your account there is different, so you'll have to set up another account {you can use the same username and password, as I do}, and (2) each picture needs to be in at least one category, just like articles do on Wikipedia.
Thanks much! Nyttend 02:24, 16 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I will see what I can do. Vbofficial 02:31, 16 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I created my commons account and have added two pictures. I plan to add more and plan to move/transfer the pictures I already uploaded to wikipedia. Any suggestions. It would be nice to know I am doing it right so far. Also, I wanted to link my commons pictures to my talk page. I tried using your example, but it indicated I have no files at the moment. Is there a delay? Thanks for all the help. Vbofficial 20:00, 27 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

school name

Changing an article with the wrong name is not done by deleting the article, but by moving it (which is also called Renaming it--they do the same thing) Since you seem to be editing a good deal here, learn to do it yourself. The first step is to be sure you're right, and say what you are going to do on the talk page of the article. If you think it is not 100% obvious, you need to discuss it first on the talk page or follow the steps for contested moves at WP:RM. This seems obvious, &, checking the history, & his user contributions the previous ed. just did this & left. so, first, edit the article to reflect the new name. Then do the steps at WP:MOVE. This will leave a redirect at the old name; you can ask for it to be removed, but in this case I'd leave it. Ask me if there are any questions--I'll check to see it goes OK. DGG (talk) 15:47, 17 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the info. I am learning. On the other hand, I need some clarification. There is already a correct school name/article
Coal Grove High School is not correct. Neither site currently has much on them, but at least the D-B site is the correct name and is being developed. Consquently, wouldn't we need to either merge it or delete it, referring to the article that needs to be corrected (the Coacl Gove page)? Vbofficial 17:06, 17 July 2007 (UTC)[reply

Montpelier

Problem fixed. What happened is that, instead of typing </ref> at the end of your reference, you typed <?ref>. Don't worry about it; it's a simple error, one that I've made several times and I'm sure most committed editors have done at some point. Nyttend 02:25, 22 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Something might have happened

Hey, I was just doing some RC patrol, and came across one of your edits where the edit summary said "Undid revision 147082632 by Wuditduz1332". Was that intentional? I'm asking because the diff showed "Toledo "Scott" Bullfrogs" being changed to "Toledo "Scott" Niggers". Thanks for your time!

Hopefully, we got everything back in order. I orginally was trying to remove one edit, which was vandalsim, and then realized I had to back further. I hope between the two of us we have corrected the problems. Thanks. Vbofficial 15:35, 26 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Educ Template

Thats brilliant - I mean correcting them. I don't think you are the only one ... I did some! If you do find any stubs that don't have schools templates then do ad them and mark them as stub/low if its a fair guess. I go love the wikipedia globe gif. At the moment Education only have a few 100s of real articles so they'd lose them if we add the schools in. Victuallers 18:37, 30 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Commons

You seem to have done quite well with your files. You can have an image on both Wikipedia and Commons, but it's a bad idea: anything on Commons is useable on Wikipedia as well, so it's needlessly taking up Wikipedia space. As a result, there's a process whereby an image already moved to Commons can be deleted from Wikipedia. Using an image from Commons is the same as using an image from Wikipedia. Check out pictures on articles in Category:Logan County, Ohio: most of these pictures are ones that I've added and uploaded to the Commons.

As far as categories: when you're adding categories, it's best to check to see which categories already exist — for example, you had several pictures in the nonexistent Category:Ohio state parks when there was already a Category:State parks in Ohio. It's not a big deal, but it's best to ensure that you have them in the right place.

Two other things, neither of which are essential, and both of which are optional:

  • In image descriptions, it's often helpful to add links to comparable Wikipedia articles. This is done by typing {{w|ARTICLE NAME|WHAT YOU WANT TO DISPLAY}} instead of [[ARTICLE NAME|WHAT YOU WANT TO DISPLAY]] as on Wikipedia. But remember, you don't have to.
  • Images can have spaces in their names, such as Image:Dinsmore Township, Shelby County, Ohio.jpg. However, they don't have to.

Hope this is helpful! Nyttend 19:20, 30 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Outcome

I have redirected the article title to Clay_Local_School_District#Rosemount_Primary_.28K-3.29, which is an empty section that I presume was intended for expansion. I believe the issue regarding notability of this school (I was not the PROD nominator) revolves around the unavailability of 3rd-party reliable sources focusing on the school primarily as opposed to incidentally. I would not encourage reconstituting the article as such prior to identification of these. Further, I would encourage the production of a suitable section at the article target so that Template:Main might be used to provide a cross-reference should the article be able to stand on its own in the future. --User:Ceyockey (talk to me) 21:56, 24 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Ohio Roads Meet

Hi - This is Dan, a frequent contributor to the Ohio Roads Project, and also the webmaster of Ohio Highway Ends (http://www.state-ends.com/ohio/). I just wanted to give you a heads up that there is a gathering of roads enthusiasts, if you will, taking place in Dayton on Saturday, 5/10 at Logan's Road House, 2819 Centre Dr., Fairborn, OH 45324. The first part is a meet-and-greet over lunch, giving people a chance to shoot the breeze, with some attendees potentially bringing some interesting maps, atlases, pictures and more. There may even be a freebie or two floating out there at the gathering (such as a free map). After lunch, we'll divide up and take a tour of some highlights from Dayton area highways, including the almost-completed I-70/75 interchange (the "Freedom Veterans' Crossroads"), reconstruction of the I-75/OH 4 interchange, the newly-reconstructed US 35 through downtown Dayton, and a side tour to an historic crossroad: Dixie Highway & the National Road. We should be wrapped up with the tour by 4:30-5:00 PM. That's a brief synopsis of what the event will entail; I am sending a special invite to all of the Ohio Roads Project editors. These events are always fun, unique and very informative. If you have the opportunity on that day, I would like to invite you to join us. If you have any questions or would like to RSVP, please let me know in the coming days. Thanks, and have a great week! DanTheMan474 (talk) 13:39, 22 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hello

WikiProject North Carolina members! A few of us at the The Newsroom Team
decided to get together and re-energize the project, through these newsletters. This newsletter is hopefully the first of many to come. We want this project to be active in creating and expanding articles related to our state. If you're a current or former resident of the state, we hope that you will help spread the knowledge of how much there is to learn about North Carolina.

  • A great way to expand new articles is by keeping track of the
    Did you know...
and add your article to the DYK nomination list. It might be chosen for the Main Page!
  • If you see a new member added to the project list, a great idea would be to leave them a welcome message on their talk page. Show them we notice new members and that we want them to become active participants.
  • If you're a history buff, check out
List of Registered Historic Places in North Carolina
. There are many articles to be written and your help would be greatly appreciated.

Selected Article: Indian Head Rock

There is a eight ton rock in Ohio that was removed from the Ohio River. This rock is known as the Indian Head Rock Dating back to the early 1800’s, this rock was seen sticking out of the Ohio River and used as a navigational mark for barges along the river. The names of citizens from the town of Portsmouth, Ohio are carved into the rock from the late nineteenth a early twentieth centuries. Some of the names were of well known families from Ohio. They would swim out to the rock, have their picture taken with it or simply carve their names into it.
With the advent of the Locks and Dams along the Ohio River, the rock eventually was submerged, but the legend lived on. A gentleman from Ironton, Ohio located the rock after searching a very long time for it, and he and a crew of scuba divers recovered the rock and took it to the shore to be donated to Ohio for historical value.
After hearing the news about the rock being removed, Kentucky introduced legislation against the removal of the rock. They also want the diver who found it to be prosecuted for removing the rock. Kentucky owns the greatest part of the land the river runs on. Even the Army Corp. of Engineers got involved as to how to move the rock without damaging it. Kentucky wants to have it returned to the river.

Notification: changes to "Mark my edits as minor by default" preference

Hello there. This is an automated message to tell you about the gradual phasing out of the preference entitled "Mark all edits minor by default", which you currently have (or very recently had) enabled.

On 13 March 2011, this preference was hidden from the user preferences screen as part of efforts to prevent its accidental misuse (consensus discussion). This had the effect of locking users in to their existing preference, which, in your case, was true. To complete the process, your preference will automatically be changed to false in the next few days. This does not require any intervention on your part and you will still be able to manually mark your edits as being minor in the usual way.

For established users such as yourself there is

Invitation to the African Destubathon

Hi. You may be interested in participating in the African Destubathon which starts on October 15. Africa currently has over 37,000 stubs and badly needs a quality improvement editathon/contest to flesh out basic stubs. There are proposed substantial prizes to give to editors who do the most articles, and planned smaller prizes for doing to most destubs for each of the 53 African countries, so should be enjoyable! So it would be a good chance to win something for improving stubs on African sportspeople, including footballers, athletes, Olympians and Paralympians etc, particularly female ones, but also male. Even if contests aren't your thing we would be grateful if you could consider destubbing a few African articles during the drive to help the cause and help reduce the massive 37,000 + stub count, of which many are rated high importance (think Regions of countries etc). If you're interested in competing or just loosely contributing a few expanded articles on African Paralympians, Olympians and committees etc, please add your name to the Contestants/participants section. Diversity of work from a lot of people will make this that bit more special. Thanks. --MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 21:14, 6 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
