Due to the

Republic of Macedonia has been renamed to the Republic of North Macedonia. While there is no contention about the new country's name, there has been some uncertainty about the terminology used for the nationality, as well as about the various adjectival usage of 'Macedonian' or 'North Macedonian', respectively, which could potentially result in a continuation of the Macedonia naming dispute

In light of these events, editors on Wikipedia conducted a

Macedonia naming convention
was adopted in May 2019.

Methodology

The structure of the project roughly follows provisions set by the Prespa agreement.

Only include links published after February 12, 2019. This is in compliance with the

name changes
policy which instructs us to give extra weight to reliable sources written after the name change is announced.

Please only use

reliable sources. A list of frequently-used sources and their reliability status can be found here
. Green-labeled perennial sources should be included in the 'Major media' subsections. The inclusion of other media reports in the 'Major media' subsections should be discussed on the talk page.

Don't include multiple reproductions on various media from the same news agency report - this is essentially the same source.

Please don't include sources based in North Macedonia or Greece or their respective diaspora communities.

Sources often edit/update their initial reports. If you spot inconsistencies, please edit accordingly.

Term used for people

Note: The usage of "Macedonian(s)" for the majority ethnic group in North Macedonia is considered non-contentious. For that reason all references to "Macedonian(s)" where the term is clearly and unmistakably used in an ethnic sense (ex. The city X in North Macedonia is populated mostly by (ethnic) Macedonians) are not included in the research.

Article 1(3.f): The adjectival reference to the State, its official organs, and other public entities shall be in line with the official name of the Second Party or its short name, that is, “of the Republic of North Macedonia” or “of North Macedonia”.
