Comments from all editors welcome These are links I'd like to add to either the "external links" or "further reading" sections of various Wikipedia articles. I have included some commentary on each link explaining why I think it should be added. I look forward to your comments and suggestions. Thanks!

Generally, things should only go in "references" if they have been used to write the text, and ideally page citations are given, or if citations are added to existing text from a source that confirms it. Books that have not yet been used can be put below references in a "Further reading" section - probably best for these - and we hope that they will later be used and cited and so moved up to "references". Or they can go in external links. If they are in References or Further reading a proper citation style with author etc should be used - external links are often less formal and detailed. General references or "bibliography" sections where it isn't clear what has been used should be avoided. Johnbod (talk) 01:37, 20 September 2012 (UTC)

THE DOWNLOADING ISSUE HAS BEEN RESOLVED Johnbod. Thanks for your patience on this - let me know if you have any issues. WilliamDigiCol (talk) 13:38, 18 June 2014 (UTC)

Ok, thanks! I'll try to catch up over the w/e. Do you know if there is video of your NY presentation? Johnbod (talk) 20:48, 18 June 2014 (UTC)
Supposedly there will be but I haven't seen one yet. I'll let you know if I come across it. WilliamDigiCol (talk) 13:38, 19 June 2014 (UTC)

New Editor Helping Out: Recently a new person has been helping out here at Watson with some of this linking. His page is here User:AWCDigiCol/Working page 2014, and it's set up similar to this. I have been leaving him comments on his work, though I encourage any editor who would like to comment to please do so. We have also created a GLAM Wiki Project, which is accessible here Wikipedia:GLAM/TJWL. Thanks! WilliamDigiCol (talk) 18:34, 21 October 2014 (UTC)

Resources

Template:Library resources box

Johnbod - we recently posted our library's OPAC through this FTL service. Basically, it makes our OPAC searchable through Online Books Page and WP articles that have the "library resources box" posted in it (here is one for things about whatever/whoever the WP page is focused on Template:Library resources about and here is one for things by whoever the page is aboutTemplate:Library resources by). Anyway, currently most of the WP pages I've found with this "resources in your library" box in it are literary, and I was hoping to begin adding it to various artists' pages. For instance, for Picasso it could be (on right):

It would say "Pablo Picasso" at the top of this box, not About WilliamDigiCol. Please let me know what your thoughts are. (Also note that once you've selected "your" library, it takes you directly to works by or about the person in your library's catalog. Before selecting a library, however, it takes you to a longer list of libraries whose various catalogs you can search.) WilliamDigiCol (talk) 15:28, 31 July 2013 (UTC)

Chinese art

PLEASE COMMENT ON THE ABOVE CATALOG: I would also like to add to: Buddhist art; Chinese ceramics; Boris Marshak (one of the authors); Tang dynasty art; Ancient Chinese glass. Any other suggestions welcome. WilliamDigiCol (talk) 19:52, 21 July 2014 (UTC)

COMMENT: I would also like to add to: Buddhist art; Yungang Grottoes; Longmen Grottoes; Mogao Caves; Dazu Rock Carvings. WilliamDigiCol (talk) 21:18, 3 March 2014 (UTC)

I'll look into this one in more detail. I recently used it as a reference at

Add: Chinese Buddhism, Emperor Xiaowen of Northern Wei #6, Guanyin - many representations, plus what you had. Johnbod (talk) 02:03, 9 March 2014 (UTC)

Egyptian temple

COMMENTS: I would also like to add to:

Sacred architecture; Ancient Egyptian religion (too much of a stretch?); Cult image (no ELs or anything in Further Reading); Ancient Egyptian architecture; Egyptology; Art of ancient Egypt; Hierarchical proportion (could be useful, and not much on WP); Amarna art; Egyptian hieroglyphs; Ancient art; Block statue. WilliamDigiCol (talk

Ok to all these. Johnbod (talk) 15:40, 13 August 2014 (UTC)

Vincent van Gogh

COMMENT: This was published a while back, but it was an extremely important exhibition in the US, so I thought it would be worth adding it to the Van Gogh and the following (many of them don't have much, obviously some of them have pretty good articles):

) 16:01, 24 July 2014 (UTC)

Ok to all; there are a lot of ELs on the main article though. The entries on the individual exhibits are just basic catalogue entries, but the long biographical/critical text is useful. Johnbod (talk) 15:45, 13 August 2014 (UTC)

COMMENT: I am going to update citations and links in a few of these, and then would like to add them to the rest: Orazio Gentileschi (added link to reference - left "source" citation to MMA Pubs); Massimo Stanzione (added to existing citation); David with the Head of Goliath (Massimo Stanzione) (updated); Giovan Battista Cavagna (updated); Palazzo Spada (cat no 52); Cristofano Allori (no ELs); Giuseppe Cesari (not a ton on WP); Giovanni Baglione (no ELs); Agostino Beltrano (no ELs); Jacques Blanchard (not much on WP); Hendrick van den Broeck (no ELs); Battistello Caracciolo (no ELs); Caravaggisti (though we have a couple other cats up); Utrecht Caravaggism; Agostino Carracci (not much on WP); Ludovico Carracci (not much on WP); Bernardo Cavallino; Alphonsus Ciacconius; Cigoli (no ELs); Michel Corneille the Elder (no ELs); Domenichino; Adam Elsheimer; Domenico Fiasella; Paolo Domenico Finoglia; Lavinia Fontana (no ELs); Anastasio Fontebuoni (no ELs); Francesco Gentileschi; Antiveduto Grammatica; Francesco Guarino; Giovanni Francesco Guerrieri; Laurent de La Hyre; Giovanni Lanfranco; Aurelio Lomi; Bartolomeo Manfredi; Claude Mellan; Jean Monier; Pacecco De Rosa; Onofrio Palumbo; Domenico Passignano; Giovanni Battista Pozzi; Scipione Pulzone; Guido Reni; Cristoforo Roncalli; Agostino Tassi. Ok Johnbod (talk) 23:23, 7 July 2014 (UTC)
I would also like to add to: Stone sculpture; Stone carving. That's about all I've got - I'm kind of surprised there's not a "Cypriot Art" article - perhaps that's something we can work on here. WilliamDigiCol (talk) 19:18, 14 July 2014 (UTC)

Roosevelt Island

COMMENT: It's kind of a fun catalog. WilliamDigiCol (talk) 13:13, 8 August 2014 (UTC)

Age of Enlightenment

COMMENT: I would also like to add to (all artists listed have at least 1 work in cat that is accompanied by a brief biographical sketch - many of them don't have that much about them on WP):

Ville d'Avray (painting) (in cat - hardly anything on WP); Jean-Baptiste Carpeaux (surprisingly little on WP - this features his most famous sculpture - Ugolino & Sons); Woman with a Parrot. WilliamDigiCol (talk
) 16:06, 3 May 2014 (UTC)

Ok to all those; I will look at it later for things to add. Johnbod (talk) 17:33, 3 May 2014 (UTC)
Actually I can't get the download for this one to work - please check. Johnbod (talk) 23:33, 3 May 2014 (UTC)
We are having some technical issues with larger items in CONTENTdm (our CMS) which we are currently working on resolving. I am going to hold off on adding links to effected items until this issue is resolved. WilliamDigiCol (talk) 14:22, 6 May 2014 (UTC)
We just heard back from our CMS support and all items over 20 MB are having download issues at present. This problem will be resolved in their next update, which is due out in June. For now, a temporary work-around is to choose to "print" the item, and then when it is in the print screen you can select to instead save it as a PDF. Right now this is the best work-around we've got. Let me know if you have any questions. WilliamDigiCol (talk) 15:43, 6 May 2014 (UTC)
That doesn't seem to be working for me either - I can't even get to a place where I can choose to print. For now let's go with the ones that are ok, & I'll revist later to see if there are things to add. Johnbod (talk) 21:30, 25 May 2014 (UTC)
Added links to all the above - if you get a chance Johnbod let me know if there are any others you'd recommend. Thanks!WilliamDigiCol (talk) 20:57, 25 June 2014 (UTC)
sure, won't be very soon though. Johnbod (talk) 21:36, 25 June 2014 (UTC)

COMMENT: I'd also like to add to:

Kongo ivories; Songye people (not much on WP).WilliamDigiCol (talk
) 21:09, 10 March 2014 (UTC)

Ok to the more specific ones. This would be link # 5 added to African art, not sure about sculpture & masks. In an ideal world there would be a single link to an MMA page listing all the African art books you have. Don't know if that's possible. I'll take a look when I get a chance. Johnbod (talk) 15:22, 4 April 2014 (UTC)

Ernst Herzfeld

COMMENT: Currently the collection is small, but it is an ongoing, active project that will be consistently added to over the next couple of years. It already has some neat stuff, and it will just continue to grow as time goes on. WilliamDigiCol (talk) 18:35, 28 May 2014 (UTC)

Ok, though the Freer & Smithsonian are already there. Johnbod (talk) 22:23, 20 June 2014 (UTC)

Trade literature

COMMENT: We have begun digitizing a number of trade catalogs - 28 are available so far, but there are a few hundred that will eventually go online. It is an ongoing, active project that will be consistently added to over the next couple of years. Anyway, I looked through some of the other links in this section and our offerings are better than many, and certainly will be better than most as we continue to add to it. Ok to (added or brought down)
Archbasilica of St. John Lateran; Basilica of Saint Paul Outside the Walls; Catacombs of Rome 351-367 the individual ones with sections & articles in Category:Catacombs of Rome could be added; Palazzo della Cancelleria 370-374, Palazzo di Propaganda Fide 375,Santuario della Madonna del Divino Amore. Gian Lorenzo Bernini - I suppose so; Francesco Mochi

You'll see I've not included many of the individual portable works of art (except

Maybe better not call it a catalogue - no actual exhibits are referred to. Please specify the individual pages where appropriate, as it's a big book. Phew! Johnbod (talk) 22:56, 4 April 2014 (UTC)

I see that Sleeping Ariadne has nothing online, so lets add that. Johnbod (talk) 12:51, 6 April 2014 (UTC)

That's the Spring Festival link (below) again!" Does it repeat the books the Fitzwilliam has, already on Ext Links? Johnbod (talk) 21:20, 5 February 2014 (UTC)
I fixed the link, and no, it does not repeat one of the Fitzwilliam books. WilliamDigiCol (talk) 14:08, 6 February 2014 (UTC)
I think (per the MMA introduction & the FM "cover image") it does in fact - you've renamed the "Insect Book". But since their version just crashes for me, and you have extra material, let's add it anyway. Link text clarified above. Johnbod (talk) 15:03, 6 February 2014 (UTC)
