I see that we have both been active on the apartheid talk page. A word of friendly advice, if you indent your replies using a semicolon (:), it makes them easier to read (use more to indent further). I was impressed by your contributions on the Bush page, what the blazes is all that stuff about archiving etc??? Wow Banes! Long have I said this (read this as if I am an old man with a flowing white beard seated by a roaring fire), but your location has gone downhill. The catchy tune from "Pirates of the Caribbean" has already been stored and adjusted (Pump that bass!). If I had e-jay in my possession I could incorporate catchy numbers into the tune for variety. Never let anyone intimidate you on Wikipedia...that is the way to survive some of the attacks. Continue to create and edit articles you care about and go into the "war zone" articles only when you feel up to it. It took me awhile to develop a cool head....a few still try to push my buttons to little avail. Just follow the rules and you'll do fine. once will probably just get a warning, but repeat offences, like with any other issue, can lead to blocking and banning. The following is from the WP:POINT guidline page:

Egregious disruption of any kind is blockable by any administrator--for up to one month in the case of repeat offenses that are highly disruptive. If you are ever involved in arbitration, doing things against the spirit of this guideline may also be a factor in the decision of the Arbitration Committee. See

for examples the Committee's views on various types of disruptive behavior.

Banes, yes, if someone has signed up with purely the purpose to disrupt, then they can be warned. If they disrupt repeatedly it becomes vandalism and can also be a violation of

I think s/he thinks it's her/his own private sandbox, and none of us barbarians may contribute... but that's not how WP works. Yeah, I didn't know how to do the conversion either and had another user help me...the way I do it is to use Google [2]...simply write out what you want to convert such as: 10 kilometers to feet or vice versa...also works well for area such as: 10 square kilometers to acres, etc. then at the top of the page, it'll give you the conversion. This message has been posted on the talk pages of all users actively editing the Decency project. The RFAr has now been completed, documenting an extensive range of disruptive edits by Hipocrite and Lulu of the Lotus-Eaters, and is available on request.

Before the RFAr is submitted, I think a conversation on Noitall’s talk page User_talk:Noitall#Arbitration should be read, where Hipocrite seems to indicate he might be open to mediation. Perhaps the mediation process might be productive on this occasion, and I am willing to extend an olive branch before banning is contemplated. I will file a mediation request in the next few days, unless there are any objections on my talk page. Of course, if Hipocrite and/or Lulu of the Lotus-Eaters do not agree to mediation, the case will go immediately to arbcom. Erwin

How vandals are spotted quickly? You may be aware of the page Special:Recent changes, but it has little clues of the quality of changes and it's slow, so we have a IRC/java based script that monitors recent changes - CryptoDerk's Vandal Fighter (CDVF). It's a blessing and a curse, you can easily spot malicious changes is the good part, the bad is that it's hard not to monitor it and make articles at the same time, since the new changes appear fast. 3RR does not apply to cases of "simple vandalism" (Blanking a page and reverting with "you suck!", etc). I'm actually using a bot on IRC, #en.wikipedia.vandalism, on Freenode, which Coolcat has made. It parses the wikimedia IRC feeds that CDVF uses, and filters out most valid edits. I also am a sysop, so I can revert a little bit faster...sometimes. I'm on dialup. --

Hello again, I have (unilatterly) taken away the 'assembly' idea, as per my reasons at that edit summary and per Wikipedia talk:Esperanza/Charter. I have left the admin general, as some leadership is good. Now, all you have to do is be a member to establish consensus, the whole assembly idea is gone. Also, I have added an advisory committee, of four members, with limited power besides watching over the admin general and making sure he doesn't do anything stupid. Ah yes, I remember that now. What a mess. It was sad to see what happened to Agriculture there, but in the end, i'm glad everything turned out ok there, that had the potential to get even uglier with time. Ultimately, the best thing I thought I could do there was update the vote count, so that's what I tried to focus on -- believe it or not, despite how it may seem, I have a bad temper; a trait that I loathe in myself and try desperately to change on a continuing basis.
I almost lost it again with this Fadix thing, but I figured the best thing to do was to leave a diplomatic sounding message on his talk page since i'm getting the adminship anyway and not make it any worse. Me and Coolcat got a laugh out of what transpired on IRC this morning.

Edit summary calculation

I do something like [4], and copy/paste the results into a spreadsheet I have that supports the nominee charts I do. I frequently do this even when I'm not going to make a chart just to see the usage of edit summaries and average edits per day. Since it's an automatic generation (I actually copy the data, then click a button on the spreadsheet, and it does the rest), it's quick and easy to do. --Durin 20:25, 13 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

First, let me say that it's unfortunate to hear you've got a lot of stress in your life...believe me, I know how that can be... You'll notice I haven't been around much lately, mostly for the same reason (although there's a matter of a new woman in my life too, which has been taking up a little bit of my time ) ... As far as the question about whether or not I've been nominated for Admin, the answer is "no", although a few people have offered to do so. I'm not sure how useful I'm going to be as an admin between now and December [when school gets out], but I'm not opposed to being nominated...God knows the extra buttons would be nice sometimes!

The picture on my userpage of St Mary Lake is free use, as are all the images I upload... that picture was here before I was as I think I pulled it out of a wiki article....so no problem, use as you please! The view shown in that picture is one of the most photographed viwpoints in all the National Parks in the U.S....it's close to the ones you may have seen of Yosemite National Park, in terms of number of times it has been photographed. Thank you. I agree with you wholeheartedly. Also I would like to just point out that two of the editors who voted against me are biased against all Muslim editors, I am sorry to say. The other person who voted against me had perfectly valid reasons about a 3rr in my first week of wikipedia. As for the one who wrote a large paragraph on me, I don't know them and why they voted against me, since they only have been here 2 weeks (and a month after my disputes with two editors on "India-related" articles were settled). I can only assume that they might be a sockpuppet, but I am not going to speculate. I still like to thank you replying to my message. I expect a lot of oppose votes in the future, though, because the first oppose voter posted material on a wikiproject trying to rally support against me, which seems unfair. Hi Banes. Thanks for your note! Yes, I am quite stressed, but it is due to volume of real-life work rather than any Wikipedia issue. I am looking forward to my stress going down, but it may only happen at the end of term. :-) The months I spent in South Africa were back when I was a student -- I was mostly in Cape Town and Stellenbosch, but I did also get the chance to spend some time in and around Kruger National Park and in Swaziland. I had a fantastic time in the months I spent there and plan to go back as soon as possible (only issues of cash flow keep me away!). --

Hi Banes, When I view the diff between two edits, there is a rollback link which when clicked will revert to the previous edit not authored by the last editor and puts in the summuary for example "Reverted edits by 202.156.6.59 to last version by Srini81". The lucky bastard bit was a reference to Xiphon's somewhat fortunate view at the time. I've written a bit on how I solved it at his talk page, and as you can see it wasn't actually that hard. How two days of no stress make a differance. I came back because of my 4 day absense on one page I edit regulary, there has been much vandalism. I read your last comment on the Esperanza talk page too. It is depressing seeing those people listed, even myself, knowing they quit. If anyone noticed my last edit before this I stated in the edit summury the quote: "Etú Brutè, then fall Caesar", which in Latin means something like "You too Brutus", which are the last words uttered by Julius Caesar when he was stabbed in the back.
