Tennessee Titans colors

Thanks for the new link - looks like you've found contradicting sources. The team says one thing, the league says something slightly different. I think the team is the slightly better source here, as stewards of their own identity, but didn't want to make the change without talking first. What do you think - team or league? I don't have a problem with including both references, it's just that they list different color names and in different orders. I think the team's designations should receive more weight than the league's. But you raise a good point; new uniforms are coming and with them possibly new colors. When those are unveiled, and the 2018 media guides and released, we'll see if there is still a conflict. If so, which one do you think should be favored? Upcoming changes to wikitext parsing

Hello,

There will be some changes to the way wikitext is parsed during the next few weeks. It will affect all namespaces. You can see a list of pages that may display incorrectly at Special:LintErrors. Since most of the easy problems have already been solved at the English Wikipedia, I am specifically contacting tech-savvy editors such as yourself with this one-time message, in the hope that you will be able to investigate the remaining high-priority pages during the next month.

There are approximately 10,000 articles (and many more non-article pages) with high-priority errors. The most important ones are the articles with misnested tags and table problems. Some of these involve templates, such as infoboxes, or the way the template is used in the article. In some cases, the "error" is a minor, unimportant difference in the visual appearance. In other cases, the results are undesirable. You can see a before-and-after comparison of any article by adding ?action=parsermigration-edit to the end of a link, like this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arthur_Foss?action=parsermigration-edit (which shows a difference in how {{infobox ship}} is parsed).

Lightning–Panthers rivalry

Firstly, I wanted to thank you for all your improvements to the page

Governor's Cup (Florida). However I did want to ask about the shade of blue you are using for the Lightning in results table. As an avid TBL fan that has attended many games, I can categorically say that the shade of blue currently in their uniform is not anything close to the navy blue you switched to in the table. It's actually much closer to a royal blue, but a bit darker/richer than that. I understand that you might be going by a standard set elsewhere by another editor, but even with that in mind it doesn't really meet the eye-test. For my part, I don't plan on switching it on you, b/c that would be the pettiest of edit wars to get into. I'm just asking that you revisit the color choice. NFL Color Template Updates

Hey, I'm currently in the process of writing a module to replace all the individual color templates. I dumped the existing templates into a data file at Module:Gridiron color/data, but I want to make sure that the data file doesn't get out of sync with the existing templates between now and when the module goes live. When you update the existing templates, could you update that file as well?

Each team is listed as an array of the format ["team name"] = {"primary color", "secondary color", "tertiary color", "alternative primary", "alternative secondary"}. Alternative names are indicated using ["team alternative name"] = "team name" Years are listed using XXXXthruXXXX notation, and the module will take care of translating both the |year= parameter as well as the the deprecated XXthruXX notation. All colors are listed as hex-formatted colors with the # sign, as the module will take care of the formatting currently done for the various subtemplates (i.e. adding "background:" or "color:" or "/**/").

Boston Celtics' colors

What are your reasons for changing the Celtics' colors? That NBA.com source only mentions that those colors are part of the new "City Edition" uniform and does not say anything about the changing of team's color scheme. This and this show more colors than you imply on listing. I thought about looking for any information regarding the colors in the 2018–19 official NBA guide but had no luck. –

Thanks for reverting to the officially listed colors. However, the Celtics' Reproduction and Guideline sheet also lists "beige" as the team's color, but I am not sure if it is used anywhere and if it should be added to the infobox. And the order is also incorrectly listed if we go by this source. –

Please do not remove the state from the team's city as you did in the New York Rangers' and New York Islanders' infoboxes and the the NHL's page. This is the standard for NHL and NBA pages. In addition, there was a user in the past who was running around using AWB doing the exact same thing and he got blocked several times for ignoring other users. –

Moving on to the Islanders' question, the difference between the Nets and Islanders in this instance is that the infoboxes used for NBA and NHL pages are different and they have different parameters |location= for the NBA and |city= for the NHL. Los Angeles Chargers' colors

The Los Angeles Chargers did indeed change their PrimaryStyle from navy blue to powder blue for the upcoming 2019 season. However, I think that the AltPrimaryStyle should be a navy blue background (with white text), instead of a gold background (with navy text). Publisher in citations

I did a partial revert on some of your citation formatting at 2019 NBA Finals. Per {{cite news}}, we typically do not specify |publisher= when it closely duplicates the work's name e.g. The New York Times Company for The New York Times. Changing references to NBA.com

Please don't change reliable URLs to AP recaps, merely to have them point to the same content on NBA.com instead, such as this edit of yours on 2019 NBA Finals. First of all, it's unnecessary churn. Secondly, and perhaps more important, game URLs from NBA.com work differently depending on what country you are accessing it from, or perhaps whether you have League Pass or not. Wake Forest

Read the reference before you revert. It shows  #CEB888  as its new color. Before it listed the darker gold, however they didn’t change the picture for it. I know what I’m doing. In Module:Gridiron color/data, it should be removed anywhere from the current scheme in the table. There is no requirement to have white text over a colored background on Wikipedia, but it is preferred that either black or white is used. I would be okay with changing with the Broncos colors to your proposed scheme (and there doesn't appear to be any resistance from WP:NFL per the discussion you started last month), but as I stated at #Broncos colors, you previously changed the Broncos colors back and forth 10 times over the span of three months, and I do not want you changing your mind again in a week or two. If this is the scheme you want, this is it, unless something significant changes regarding policy, a discussion, or the Broncos changing their colors in real life. If you believe it is more important to have the Broncos' primary color be the background color than to have all three of their main colors in the template in some fashion, you may make the change and leave a note in the WT:NFL section that you have made this change. The team/club explanation makes some sense. As for the colors – I am in favor of titlestyle being black/white and basestyle being white/black. But my main concern, which I should have addressed in my initial post, is the constant self-reverting done by yourself (this also includes NFL colors). Please stick to one coloring pattern and stop playing with the "Undo" button. If you are in doubt and know that you are going to revert it the next day then ask in the appropriate projects. Because it really looks silly when you are unsure about the thing yourself and play the "back-and-forth" game. –

NFL Navbox color schemes

Hello. Yesterday and earlier this week I changed the style of several NFL navboxes. I used 'Gridiron alt primary style' in the |basestyle= and |abovestyle= cells because it gave a nice looking contrast to NFLPrimaryStyle in the |titlestyle= bar. Now all of sudden those two cells have the same style in many of the navboxes. See

Template:CardinalsFirstPick and even Template:New York Jets which I never touched. Yesterday and several days before I believe, those lower cells were white with team primary colored text. All Cardinals, Jets and Colts navboxes did the same thing. The reason I'm asking you is I see you made some edits at Module:Gridiron color/data. Do you know what happened? Color change suggestion

I see that you have been flip-flopping on colors, such as with the Brooklyn Nets at Module:Sports color/basketball. I'm not here to argue for one color scheme vs. another. However, I suggest that your edit summary includes a rationale—preferably objective—on why you are changing the color. Then others will know the reason for the change. (talk page stalker) I know you asked Cabayi and not me but ... a useful edit summary for those edits might be something like "changed colors to match corporate brand colors". As to why not, IMO it's not that we can't use the "official" colors, it's about how we use them, or more specifically, where. It's very difficult to do white or black text on "official" background colors and comply with WP:CONTRAST. Most official colors don't make good background colors for text. However, there are other ways to incorporate official colors in the templates, while still complying with accessibility guidelines. I don't remember which sport -- I thought it was NFL football but maybe it was association football - but I distinctly remember this coming up recently (2020) for some group of team templates, and some compromise was struck where the team colors were shown on the templates but in a way that complied with accessibility guidelines. Whatever they did is probably an example to follow. Sorry I can't be more specific but I'm going off memory, maybe if you search or ask around you will find the compromise I'm thinking of. If you are making successive edits to a live template, it's an indication that it's likely not a finished product, and why some might consider them tests. I'd suggest you use the template's sandbox. Did you even see the finished product of your edits? For the footer, "ARZ" was in red on every roster template, half of the teams shown were in black, and half were in white. Those colors need to be the same for every team on an individual roster template, otherwise it looks like a complete mess. As for your edit warring allegation, I've made exactly one revert at

Edits to the baseball team infobox

I'm not sure what you were trying to accomplish with your recent edits to the Template:Infobox baseball team, however your edits broke all of the infoboxes for NPB teams (eg Yomiuri Giants). Visibility issue on Jaguars draft navboxes

Hello. At the bottom of

Template:Jaguars2021DraftPicks
the links to the previous years (1995 through 2008) are there, but invisible. They are black text on a black background. This is true for all the Jags draft templates from 2009-present. Not sure how to fix it.

Uniforms update

Hi, Charlesaaronthompson, how 're you doing? Effectively I bought a new computer, but I've had some problems of software and hardware compatiblities that made me impossible to edit and/or update the uniforms. The point is, all my uniforms had been created with CorelDraw v13 (that runs perfectly on Win 7, but my new PC has Win 10 installed); Unfortunately this version of CD does not run on Win 10 so I had to search another computer to convert my Corel files to previous versions that allow me to edit them on my new PC.

Problems with edit at Template:Detroit Lions general manager navbox

Hello. Can you please review this edit of yours? A few issues I noticed:

  • You added Dutch Clark to the template. This appears to be in conflict with his article that states he was the Lions quarterback in 1936 and a player-coach for the Lions in 1937 and 1938. No mention of GM unless I'm missing something. What is your source for the inclusions of both Clark and Graham Smith as GMs?
  • Your entries for both Dutch Clark (1936–1938} and Graham Smith (1941–1942} contain curly brackets } at the end instead of the round ). I assume this was a typo / unintentional.
  • You added "Formerly the Portsmouth Spartans (1930–1933)" to the above bar. I had removed that last year with the rationale that all the GMs in the navbox are from after the team became the Detroit Lions (true even with your additions).

Fair enough. Thanks for the explanations. I have fixed the typos. Last year I moved the prior names on all the NFL teams navboxes out of the top title bar and into the 'above' bar. Except for on this particular template I simply removed the former name entirely per the rationale stated above, and as part of the overall effort to clean up the title bars. I can't remember if removing the mention entirely was solely my idea or suggested from another editor. In any case, I am happy with the current state of the navbox.
In light of the source you provided, seems changes to at least the Dutch Clark article are now in order. I may take care of that tomorrow.

I have added some points on Dutch Clark's administrative career to his page.[4] Final note: While doing so, I noticed the source titles Detroit Lions Executives & Owners and Cleveland/LA/St. Louis Rams Executives & Owners. Those Pro-Football-Reference.com titles are consistent with and support my argument that Portsmouth Spartans should not be mentioned in navboxes that contain no elements from that era. I don't understand what you mean by "URL references", but the contrast for blue-on-green is extremely hard to see. Black text would be preferable, as compliance with basic readability overrules stylistic preferences. I'm done playing with the "undo" button as it is, and I plan to stop making repeated changes. – this is not the first time that you have repeated this so I do not really believe that it will not happen again after a while. But we will see. Now regarding the colors – we always use the "reproduction and usage guideline sheet" (you know that very well) unless a press release by the team states otherwise. More bad template edits

I just now saw that you have the most unthinkably extensive history of bad decisions and behavior, and corrective action taken against you, about editing templates. So I have to just echo that here for the record. You added one particular sports facility to the template for the entire top-level metropolitan area which already has "sports". It doesn't get a lot more obvious how inappropriate this idea was, for anybody ever, even for a new user's first edit. Fair Use Images

Just wanted to note that uploading screen grabs as window dressing for articles is against the image policy, specifically

WP:NFCCP #8. They need to have some encyclopedic value and provide enough benefit to outweigh fair use concerns. There may some argument with some files, but the Catch II is blatant, as you can't even see the football or the catch. Also, the catch itself was unspectacular, what made it famous was when it happened and how it happened. You don't need an image to convey that. I am going to leave the logos alone while the FFDs occur, but if they get deleted, they are going back up. You are welcome to start a discussion on the topic. The articles have been like that for quite some time and you are the one that wants to change it. If you want them changed, then start a discussion and gain consensus on that. Otherwise it's just a content dispute and you saying your opinion matters more than mine. Comments

Some general thoughts:

  • Charles, your actions over the last 18 hours are petulant and unproductive for general discourse. They are making it difficult to engage with you in good faith.
  • You had been warned in multiple prior discussions that your constant tinkering with template colors, borders and the like are disruptive.
  • You had been asked to engage in discussion prior to making these types of edits.
  • You waited a month and then made an edit that had the affect of your previous edit without discussing it first: adding a green border to {{Green Bay Packers}}.
  • Multiple editors, including
    WP:BRD
    the impetus is now on your to gather consensus on your proposed changes. If you can't gather consensus, regardless of how much you think your edit is what is best, you do not get to make that change. Every editor on Wikipedia has faced this reality over and over. You are no different, nor are you afforded special privileges.
  • After you were reverted and engaged, you feigned a dramatic retirement, which when that did not cause the reaction you wanted, you then unretired and changed your user name in a blatant attempt to provoke anger and make a personal attack.
  • You are now complaining about how we are not engaging with you in discussion, yet you have proven yourself incapable of engaging in good faith with us. Your actions show this.

If this type of behavior continues, the next step would be revoking your template editor rights, which I am borderline ready to do now, and then proposed a topic ban for you on editing template designs, and then block. Please take a few moments, after changing your user name, to stop and think about what you want from being here at Wikipedia and if you are willing to follow the rules and guidelines laid out here to be a productive editor. You have obviously made countless positive contributions to Wikipedia that are valued. Yet disruption wastes all of our time. Instead of writing articles about the Packers, I have been engaged in this discussion.
