Alpha Bay

Hi, You undid a news text edit from https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AlphaBay that referred http://alphabaymarket.com/ as the source. Your reason for the deletion was " More reliable source needed". In your objective view Reference number 4 on that Wikipedia page (http://www.alphabaymarket.net/alphabay-market-review/) is reliable source? If yes then exactly how those two sources are different in their "reliability"?.

Help with "Group selfie" section for the Selfie article?

Hi Deku-shrub, I see from Talk:Selfie that you were looking into the possibility of putting together a section for the article about group selfies. I recently prepared such a section, at the behest of Huawei, who have coined the term "groufie" to refer to such images. Because of my conflict of interest, I won't add the section myself. Instead, I posted it at Talk:Selfie for other editors to review. Do you think you might have time to take a look at it and, if things look okay to you, take the section live? I'm also certainly open to any questions or comments you have! Cheers, ChrisPond (Talk · COI) 15:26, 28 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Replaceable fair use File:Giorgio A. Tsoukalos - Aliens.png

Thanks for uploading File:Giorgio A. Tsoukalos - Aliens.png. I noticed that this file is being used under a claim of fair use. However, I think that the way it is being used fails the first non-free content criterion. This criterion states that files used under claims of fair use may have no free equivalent; in other words, if the file could be adequately covered by a freely-licensed file or by text alone, then it may not be used on Wikipedia. If you believe this file is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the file description page and add the text {{di-replaceable fair use disputed|<your reason>}} below the original replaceable fair use template, replacing <your reason> with a short explanation of why the file is not replaceable.
  2. On the file discussion page, write a full explanation of why you believe the file is not replaceable.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per the non-free content policy. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Fut.Perf. 22:01, 29 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Latest stage of submission to the Speaker's Commission on Digital Democracy

Hello there. I thought I would drop you a note as you kindly took part in the first stage of the efforts to crowdsource a submission to the Speaker's Commission on Digital Democracy. The second stage is now live and can be seen here. It would be great if you could help with putting together the submission on the second theme, which relates to representation. Also, if you have any suggestions on how we can widen participation, that would be very helpful. Thanks again for all of your help. Stevie Benton (WMUK) (talk) 11:23, 30 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi! Thanks for your improvements in the categorization of transhumanists. Good work. I was wondering, would it be better to categorize people in only Category:American transhumanists, and remove Category:Transhumanists? (same for other nationalities)? Replaceable fair use File:Ransomeware history.png

Thanks for uploading File:Ransomeware history.png.

Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per the

Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per the

Disambiguation link notification for June 16

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Darknet market, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page GDS. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

It's OK to remove this message. Also, to stop receiving these messages, follow these opt-out instructions. Thanks, DPL bot (talk) 09:55, 16 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I noticed that you undid my edit on Carding (fraud) because you disagreed with or did not understand the decision at FFD, linked in the title. When I closed the discussion, I did see and read your objection. I had the option to participate in the discussion or close the discussion, but am not allowed to do both. Because of the large backlog, small number of administrators working on FFD, and clear-cut policy decision, I chose to close the discussion.

Since I noticed your edit, I have stopped other work on wikipedia until I could address your concerns, and I will try to do so here. Wikipedia's goal is to be a free content encyclopedia, and over the years that goal has built up a lot of policies and procedures around

User:Stefan2
mentioned when nominating this non-free screenshot for removal from the article, "8. Contextual significance. Non-free content is used only if its presence would significantly increase readers' understanding of the article topic, and its omission would be detrimental to that understanding." He used shorthand in his nomination, and someone likely should have clarified for you when you left your comment.

In terms of Carding (fraud)#1980s–1999, I believe Stefan2 feels and most of the people who patrol non-free image use would likely agree that for most users reading that section of the article that seeing a screenshot from AOHell does not make them understand the topic any better than if the screenshot is not included in that section. If they were curious about AOHell, it is wiki-linked and the screenshot is available in the article about the software. If you feel that this screenshot somehow adds to their understanding, I would be interested to hear how.

Currently, the image is also in violation of

WP:NFCCP#10c
as well. As part of my work when closing the discussion, I removed the rationale you added for this article from the image description.

I hope that I have explained well enough for you to understand and re-remove the image from the article yourself. If not, I welcome questions and discussion.  ★  Bigr Tex 22:33, 19 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion nomination of BioViva

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read

the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard

to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on

section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be a clear copyright infringement. This page appears to be a direct copy from http://bioviva-science.com/2016/04/21/first-gene-therapy-successful-against-human-aging/. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites or other printed material as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing
.

If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. If you are not the owner of the external website or image but have permission from that owner, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission. You might want to look at Wikipedia's policies and guidelines for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by

Phishing

The RFPP request got archived before I got a chance to reply so I thought best to reply here. Full protection should only be used sparingly on articles and certainly not indefinitely since then nobody can edit the page. Once that expires on Monday I'll switch it back to indefinite pending changes. Hopefully as they were unsuccessful in getting the link to stick they'll give up. If it continues, one alternative would be to move the infobox to a template and permanently protect that. It's a bit of a bodge, but the situation with onion links is fairly unique and this would make it much easier to spot any attempts to change the link as it would mean adding the full infobox back. Are you related to Symantec?

Hello Deku-Shrub,

By reading the article on wikipedia on Zero-day exploits I noticed that a paragraph sounded like advertising for Symantec. After watching the changelog of the article i noticed that you were the one that added it. After further research, I found you did the same on other articles like Ransomware.

If you are indeed related to Symantec, please consider staying neutral and not adding references to this company in articles. Neutro (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 14:51, 26 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I don't believe I added that, could you link the diff? The discussion on Ransomeware was because I wanted to add an image. Deku-shrub (talk) 14:59, 26 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your answer. There you go: https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Zero-day_(computing)&oldid=662810780 An image is good, just saying that imho it would be more neutral to say "antivirus companies" instead of precising Symantec in the articles, where you can still put a reference to Symantec website to justify it :) Neutro (talk)

The contents of the edit is actually coming from a manual merge of Zero-day attack. The merge should have been better commented and managed. Regarding the image, I wanted a timeline, it's the best one that exists. Deku-shrub (talk) 16:34, 26 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

If you have any questions about this, you are welcome to leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. 331dot (talk) 08:01, 13 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Moved your new content to Global catastrophic risk

Hi, I moved the table you inserted in Existential risk from artificial general intelligence over to Global catastrophic risk, since the source specifically states "global catastrophic risks"; personally I think it needs a rewrite into prose though if it remains, it's not very comprehensible to our readers as a standalone table and could use stronger sources. List of Common Misconceptions

I appreciate your addition of references. I'm honestly at a loss for what Bryn is looking for, evidence-wise. There is another example above, and one I think that was archived where he has taken the same tack. No source meets the criteria, nothing can show it is a common misconception, it is never enough. I asked him specifically what he is looking for, but I don't think I'm going to get a good answer (maybe I'm being a bit cynical). Thoughts? Squatch347 (talk) 17:09, 11 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I replied, it'll be interesting to see how this pans out :) Deku-shrub (talk) 19:43, 11 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Seems he has dropped it. Thoughts on moving forward? I think we are good enough to add back at this point. Squatch347 (talk) 20:48, 20 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
The argument needs to be built up consistently and fully from the referenced individual articles and pass any challenges there. If that succeeds, the results can shore-up the case for adding to the misconceptions list. Deku-shrub (talk) 21:18, 20 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Happy New Year!

Happy Holidays and Happy New Year, Deku-shrub!

The other day, I was having a conversation with someone about holiday cards and social media. It occurred to me that, in the years since I left Facebook, the site I use most to communicate with people I like isn't actually a social media site at all. If you're receiving this, it's pretty likely I've talked with you more recently than I have my distant relatives and college friends on FB, at very least, and we may have even collaborated on something useful. So here's a holiday "card", Wikipedia friend. :) Hope the next couple weeks bring some fun and/or rest. — Rhododendrites talk \\ 18:46, 22 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

The article BadBIOS has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

BadBIOS has zero substantial, if any, evidence for its existence outside of pre-existing yet much more well-documented viruses of similar nature. After the discoverer of the virus dumped data across all the machines that had been supposedly infected with it, there have been zero findings of any malicious programming within any of it. The entire basis for this malware's existence is dependent on the story that was told by its supposed finder. This already makes it hoax-worthy. The virus is claimed to be capable of infecting multiple different BIOS variants (i.e., EFI, UEFI) injected through different operating systems (Mac, Windows & Linux) all in one. This is already an impressive feat for a virus to pull off. A virus doing this through auditory infection methods has never once been documented. Viruses that do spread through isolated machines are called 'Air-gap malware.' There is an article on them as well. However, most of these pieces of malware utilize external hardware such as USB sticks. Auditory ones do exist [and even thermal ones!], but none to the scale 'BadBIOS' is claiming to achieve. Unless intentionally disabling certain firmware protections on all devices (i.e., only signed firmware be loaded onto the system), it could go from an incredibly difficult virus to program with an inconsistent form of infection to impossible.
