Category:Television articles with disputed naming style is pleasingly small now – looks like there's just 10 entries left there! So at least we've made some real progress on this one.

However, Category:Television articles with incorrect naming style is up to over 900 entries. And I don't see much in the way of "low-hanging fruit" (i.e. easily "fixable" entries) left in here either. (Arguably, a number of these could be transferred from this cat to Category:Television articles with disputed naming style...) I'm not sure we're ever going to completely clear this one out. Ah, well... --IJBall (contribstalk) 18:59, 26 June 2022 (UTC)

Spenser edits

The edits on the SFH page which you attribute both to me and to sloppy work ... weren't by me. I added 2 years of material to the DVD section, and that was all.

So if you're going to be snotty in edit descriptions, perhaps you should also work on accuracy.
-- [email protected] Baylink (talk) 03:44, 30 June 2022 (UTC)

Sorry but you are completely wrong here. this is was your 2 succsieve edits. You added the following infobox errors:
I'm sure there are others but I'm not going to go over your entire edit. I'll accept your apology now. Gonnym (talk) 03:57, 30 June 2022 (UTC)

I must say...

...you feel very strongly about these titling conventions, which is great. But you really don't need to be so blunt and unpleasant. Maybe as an alternative you could simply say - "moved page per <policy/MOS stanard>". TL;DR: It would be nice if you were kind to your fellow editors. --VersaceSpace 🌃 15:27, 9 July 2022 (UTC)

This isn't the first time I encounter AfD moves who just accept articles without doing the minimal check to see if the title is correct. That creates additional work for other editors that now have to clean up after. I might have been blunt, but I wasn't wrong. Looking over
WP:NCTV would have taken you 2 minutes to get familiar and pick a better disambiguation then the one you used. And that is only the title issue, the article itself had quite a few errors in it, so even the content itself wasn't fit for main space. Gonnym (talk
) 15:31, 9 July 2022 (UTC)
The "additional work" in question being that you had to change a title (by one word)...doesn't seem very labor intensive. And the article's issues are quite standard for many articles in the mainspace. An article needing copy-editing shouldn't inhibit it from entering or being in the mainspace, much less so when the issues are in no more than a paragraph (you didn't fix them either).
Anyway, my point is that you don't need to be so rude. Instead of telling me I "should've taken two minutes" to read some guideline or policy you could tell me (kindly) how I could do better in the future — a much more collaborative way to do things. --VersaceSpace 🌃 15:47, 9 July 2022 (UTC)
Anyway, my point is that you don't need to be so rude. Instead of telling me I "should've taken two minutes" to read some guideline or policy you could tell me (kindly) how I could do better in the future — a much more collaborative way to do things. In this conversation I wasn't rude at all yet dismiss your bad move which caused additional work, both with an additional page move and with many content fixes (some of which were just false or completely incorrect). Gonnym (talk) 15:51, 9 July 2022 (UTC)
I don't doubt your intentions, but your mono-tone voice in comments and telling me I "should've taken two minutes" to read some guidelines absolutely comes off that way. I'm not a robot — some things could get past me, and yes, I may forget the occasional titling convention! I apologize, but I'd appreciate it if you could point out my in-corrections in a way that doesn't make it seem like you're going to fall and die because you have to make a few edits. --VersaceSpace 🌃 16:01, 9 July 2022 (UTC)

Hey, Gonnym,
Do you want me to delete these empty categories as CSD G7 and stop posting notices on your talk page or do you want to check each one out and tag it yourself? Either way is fine with me but I don't want to clutter up your talk pages with CSD notices if they are unwanted. Some editors who create a lot of categories in the process of their editing have asked me to tag them for CSD C1 but not to notify them as they have created hundreds of categories and don't particularly care when one of them was no longer needed. 01:28, 13 July 2022 (UTC)

Deletion discussion

I know you contribute a lot to

WP:NOTPLOT, leaving the article with about 500 words of redundant prose. Per my arguments in the deletion discussion, we don't create season articles for every show simply because the show itself is notable. Notability for the season itself is necessary. Am I off on this? I'd appreciate your input. ButlerBlog (talk

Yeah, but, until/unless Draft:Everett K. Ross (Marvel Cinematic Universe) becomes an article, there is much more information about the character in film at the main article Everett K. Ross then the list article current targeted. Mdewman6 (talk) 21:10, 28 December 2022 (UTC)
Yes, the Characters list has been suffering from a lack of quality in recent years, but the consensus regarding MCU-specific redirects has not changed. You are welcome to copy-and-paste that content over to the Characters list. InfiniteNexus (talk) 21:15, 28 December 2022 (UTC)

Nelonen (television)

Someone just moved the article on the Nelonen TV network to this disambiguation, which is certainly wrong. I'm guessing it should go to either Nelonen (TV channel) or Nelonen (Finnish TV channel), but either way I'll let you get this one... --IJBall (contribstalk) 13:46, 27 February 2023 (UTC)

Probably either Nelonen (TV channel) or Nelonen (TV network) (I've yet to understand when we choose which). Gonnym (talk) 13:48, 27 February 2023 (UTC)
My preference in a case like this is "TV channel". Netoholic is the one who is pushing to never use "TV channel", but he's wrong as many cable channels do not meet the true definition of a "TV network". --IJBall (contribstalk) 18:16, 27 February 2023 (UTC)

Hey @GDP1985. There were quite a few issues with your edits. Some syntax related, some citation related.
Syntax related:
  • See the section
    MOS:HEAD
    .
  • In the entire section your usage of <br>...</br> is incorrect and has completely broken the page. Do you not see it?
  • Also in that section, you are adding links to
    disambiguation pages
    . See Landi.
  • Again, that section, you are using bold text when it shouldn't. See
    MOS:BOLD
    .
Citation related:
  • WP:CITESTYLE
says to use the same style already found on the page, your citation's aren't that.
  • Additionally, your citations aren't helpful at all. You are saying the source is found in "I Cesi. Genealogia e Cronistoria di una Grande Famiglia Umbro-Romana, Edoardo Martinori", which is a 134 page book. You need to provide the page number (and more details). See Template:Cite book.
  • Also, once you fix the above, you won't have 4 duplicate citations.
As a side note, and since I can't verify with what you gave, I find it strange that an error of 500 years for the founded date was in the article for so long. Gonnym (talk) 09:47, 5 March 2023 (UTC)

Gotham and Pennyworth

Isn't this enough to add and prove it? Kailash29792 (talk) 02:11, 5 March 2023 (UTC)

The creators don't really have much say as they don't really own the IP, they just play with it. So until WB actually does show a connection between the two, that doesn't really mean anything. But regardless if they are connected or not, since when do we create a merged list of characters article for two different TV series? They don't even share characters as they take place in two completely different decades. Gonnym (talk) 09:38, 5 March 2023 (UTC)
That's why I felt Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul deserved to have two different character lists, not a single one. But Pennyworth should have its own list for characters. Kailash29792 (talk) 04:26, 6 March 2023 (UTC)
For those shows I can see why it was merged, as it a big part of the main cast of BCS are characters from BB. Plus there was a movie with the same characters. Here there are no shared characters other than the lead who is played by different actors. Gonnym (talk) 06:27, 6 March 2023 (UTC)

Episode list date format question

Every once in awhile, a new entry pops up in Category:Episode lists with unformatted air dates due to the |OriginalAirDate= having something like TBA, unaired, or the like. Sometimes, as is the case currently with List of Excel Saga episodes, the entry can't simply be blanked because it has a footnote or reference. I understand editors adding the ref/note to cite the fact that the episode exists and was unaired, but it causes the article to end up in the maintenance category. I'm wondering what the actual proper format or entry is or should be in cases such as this. I tried using {{start date|unaired}} but that didn't actually work, although I seem to recall seeing {{start date|TBA}} working OK (although I could be wrong on that). Any insight into how these are supposed to be addressed would be appreciated. TIA! ButlerBlog (talk) 15:07, 22 March 2023 (UTC)

Seems that {{Start date|Unaired}} does remove it from the category. On this specific example however, the note says that it was aired somewhere, so that date should probably used with the current note. Gonnym (talk) 15:42, 22 March 2023 (UTC)
I kind of thought that, too about the date in the note - thinking it should be the formatted date and then the footnote about the airing. Thanks for the insight on {{Start date|Unaired}}. I run across these from time-to-time, so that's helpful to know. ButlerBlog (talk) 21:05, 23 March 2023 (UTC)

Eye Witness title

Hi there. I see you moved Eye Witness. I had originally called it a 'current events series' and you called it a 'TV series'. It was not shown on TV; it was shown in theatres. I've now changed it to 'film series'.LJA123 (talk) 15:48, 12 April 2023 (UTC)

It used {{Infobox television}} and it uses "episodes" in the article which made me think it is a televison program. Both of those should be changed if in fact it isn't television related. Gonnym (talk) 16:40, 12 April 2023 (UTC)

All of my category edits have been reverted. I may have jumped the gun changing all the HBO Max original programming categories to Max (streaming service) original programming and should have discussed it on the relevant talk pages first before making the edits. vistadan 11:49, 23 May 2023 (UTC)

Network (and streaming) category names are never changed as that will result in incorrect information. For example Titans (2018 TV series) never originally aired on Max, so adding that information to a category or the infobox is just incorrect. What we do is add new categories (like the Max one) and keep sibling categories such as the HBO Max one and Category:DC Universe (streaming service) original programming. Episode list date maintenance

Working on an article coming up in Category:Episode lists with unformatted air dates, List of Wansapanataym episodes, I am pretty sure that every date is now formatted. It is still coming up in the maint cat. I'm wondering if it's because I used {{End date}} for the entries that are 2 (or more) parts. If that's the case, is it possible to modify what the maintenance category looks for? A multipart episode should be able to use {{Start date}} and {{End date}} for it's first and last episodes without causing any microformat issues. (Of course, it is possible that maybe that's already the case and I'm just missing an unformatted date in there somewhere - but I have run through it multiple times both manually and with AWB and can't find any other issues) ButlerBlog (talk) 16:30, 5 June 2023 (UTC)

I'm assuming you are correct and it is because of that template. In the list of episodes (as I see it) each entry (or row) is its own thing so each date is basically the start date of it. But you can raise that issue at Template:Episode list. Alex is the maintainer of that template (and I believe he is the one that added the information about the start date/end date templates to the infobox). Gonnym (talk) 16:33, 5 June 2023 (UTC)
Thanks - I'll definitely raise the issue/question there. I think what'll I do first though is to de-format what I've get for end date and just display it as a regular date to see if that resolves it getting picked up in the maint cat. I can always reformat it later if need be. ButlerBlog (talk) 16:43, 5 June 2023 (UTC)
In re-formatting those to use start date, that seems to have solved it. Technically speaking, the start date should be fine in a multipart episode as they are displayed as separate table rows, so that would not cause a problem with hCalendar microformat. Since that seems to have solved it, I'm going to leave things alone for now. But I may bring it up at the template talk page later to suggest the last episode in a multipart display to use end date since that would seemingly give a range for the hCalendar stuff. Thanks for your help and insight. ButlerBlog (talk) 17:08, 5 June 2023 (UTC)
The only issue you might run in to is what to do when you have more than 2 episodes. So for the first episode you use the start date, for the last you use the end date, but then what do the ones between use? Gonnym (talk) 17:11, 5 June 2023 (UTC)
My original thought was that they would be regular date format - but then, thinking about it, I guess that has the potential for confusion if there isn't just one consistent way it's supposed to be. I'll just set the whole thing aside for now... ButlerBlog (talk) 17:39, 5 June 2023 (UTC)

For more control over columns, use {{col-begin}} and {{col-break}}, or a table. Tables are less accessible and have uglier wikitext. You could also consider using actual === header markup instead of semicolons. – Jonesey95 (talk) 15:53, 18 June 2023 (UTC)

Question

Is it possible to somehow compile either a list or category of TV show articles that are at "(TV series)" but should be at "(TV program)". Essentially, almost any documentary TV show (and a few other shows) should be at "(TV program)" instead of "(TV series)", but I suspect many of them are incorrectly at the latter. I just came across two today that I had to fix – Fatal Attraction (2013 TV program) and Fatal Attractions (TV program). But if there was a dedicated list or category of these somewhere, I could start working on them in my spare time... Thanks. --IJBall (contribstalk) 18:42, 1 July 2023 (UTC)

This might be able to be done by checking the |genre= values, but those aren't really 100% correct. If you think that's a viable idea, give me a list of genres that when found should produce "TV program". The problem is you won't be able to remove false positives from the list. Gonnym (talk) 12:43, 3 July 2023 (UTC)

Maintenance categories

I was wondering how difficult it is for you to create a maintenance category based on parameter use in a template? If it's not a difficult process, would you be able to create one that looks for the use of <hr> and its derivatives (i.e. <hr />, <hr/>, {{hr}}) in various parameters of {{Episode list}}? Essentially, any parameter that is not |ShortSummary=. Often, these tags are used for multipart episodes when |NumParts= should be used instead. I have been using some of the list article categories to debug the regex, and for the most part, I think it's OK for general use now. Having a maintenance category for this (even a temporary one) would make it easier to screen for. Just wondering if it's much work to set up something like that... ButlerBlog (talk) 13:38, 20 June 2023 (UTC)

I'll take a look at the module. I don't think it should be a problem. Gonnym (talk) 15:01, 20 June 2023 (UTC)

I worked through the list as loaded in AWB but I had skipped probably half of the list as some were going to require some adjustments to my regex. But now the maint cat is showing empty (and I know I didn't do all of them). Any thoughts on why that would be? (I don't know enough about maintenance categories to know where to look for changes) ButlerBlog (talk) 13:30, 4 July 2023 (UTC)
I had a bug in the code and the whole code was commented out. The editor was quite aggressive so you should ask in the module talk page for them to reinstate it. Gonnym (talk) 07:19, 6 July 2023 (UTC)
Ahhh... I found the discussion. I hope we can get it re-instated as that was helpful, but judging by the tone or response, I can see that could be difficult. Connections (British documentary)

Where, exactly, does

Connections (British documentary)? — Smjg (talk
) 23:12, 23 July 2023 (UTC)

Did you even read it? There is no place in the guideline that the word "documentary" is found. Gonnym (talk) 06:15, 24 July 2023 (UTC)
So what? I can't see anything saying that only words present on that page may be used in disambiguators. The whole point of disambiguating titles is to disambiguate. Which "British TV series" doesn't. — Smjg (talk) 09:48, 24 July 2023 (UTC)
I really don't understand what you are missing there... If Connections is an unfolding story then per Wikipedia:Naming conventions (television)#Television programming use "TV series" as it says When disambiguation is required, use (TV series). If you believe that the episodes are unrelated to each other, then per Wikipedia:Naming conventions (television)#Non-series television follow for all other programs use (TV program) or (TV programme) according to common usage in reliable sources.
Per
WP:NCTVUK
add the country.
I hope that clears things up. Gonnym (talk) 09:54, 26 July 2023 (UTC)
I don't think I'm missing anything. You're ignoring the whole reason the title you've moved it to is inappropriate. It makes no sense to use a title of the form X (Y) when there are multiple Ys called X. I'm sure there's a rule or at least a guideline against this somewhere. In any case, it's common sense, as it goes against the whole point of disambiguators if you use an ambiguous one. To quote the top of the page you're referring me to: "It is a generally accepted standard that editors should attempt to follow, though it is best treated with common sense, and occasional exceptions may apply."
If you're doubtful of whether a game show constitutes a "TV series", I must refer you to Big Brother (British TV series) and The X Factor (TV series). — Smjg (talk) 10:55, 26 July 2023 (UTC)
As long as WP:NCTV has s separate disambiguation for game shows (see
WP:NCTV and change the guideline. Gonnym (talk
) 11:10, 26 July 2023 (UTC)
I don't need to bring it up. It's already covered by the sentence I quoted. Furthermore, as I look now you still haven't moved Big Brother (British TV series) to Big Brother (British game show). — Smjg (talk) 13:34, 26 July 2023 (UTC)
I've just realised again what you said. That "TV series" and "game show" are "enough" to comply with that particular guideline is irrelevant. To comply with the various points of
WP:TITLE and common sense are additional expectations on top of this. — Smjg (talk
) 06:48, 27 July 2023 (UTC)
The point I think Smjg is trying to make is that "Connections (British TV series)" could refer to either the documentary or the game show, given that they are both British TV series, and I have to agree with that. Whether "(documentary)" is the right disambiguator is a different question, but I can't immediately think of anything better. Thryduulf (talk) 11:22, 27 July 2023 (UTC)
Again, you can both agree to whatever you want, the fact is that
WP:NCTV which offers you to use the year. Which means Connections (British TV series) would then be Connections (1978 TV series). Also, Big Brother is not a game show but a TV series as each episode relates to the previous episode. Anyway you want to read this, NCTV does not support genres. Gonnym (talk
) 13:12, 27 July 2023 (UTC)
How do you mean Big Brother isn't a game show? It seems to me to meet the basic definition of a game show, and seems to be widely categorised as such.
Additionally, with many game shows, there is some form of tournamentation such as a 'winner stays on' principle, which is a way in which "each episode relates to the previous episode". Furthermore, from what I remember, in this particular show, they were frequently finishing a game that began in the previous episode. In any case, "TV series" is a broad term, such that in most cases you can't use it to tell the average reader which of multiple TV programmes you mean.
That
WP:TITLE
doesn't mean you can just pretend the former completely overrides the latter.
And what part of
To quote the top of the page you're referring me to: "It is a generally accepted standard that editors should attempt to follow, though it is best treated with common sense, and occasional exceptions may apply."
don't you understand? — Smjg (talk)

(

WP:NCTV, Connections (British TV series) is the correct article title for that series with a hatnote pointing to the game show, Connections (game show) is the correct article title for that, and Connections (TV series) is the correct redirect back to the disambiguation to get a reader to any of the three articles. - Favre1fan93 (talk
) 14:21, 27 July 2023 (UTC)

@ is the correct article title for that series"?
I'm about to be away for about a week, so I'll probably see you when I return. — Smjg (talk) 07:39, 28 July 2023 (UTC)

BS map changes

Re [2] - please assume good faith. My reversion was not disruptive, or at least not deliberately so. When I checked my watchlist this morning, I noticed that one of my talk page archives had been changed. On investigation, I saw that it was a chnage of template type. This is acceptable for mainstream templates and articles, though not, in my opinion, for talk pages and archives, per

WP:IDIDN'THEARTHAT
, as you suggest.

My opposition to the removal of the templates still stands. Personally I see no reason for users to waste time changing talk pages and archives like this, though of course it's not for me to say how other users should spand their time. Voice of Clam (talk) 18:05, 29 August 2023 (UTC)

No, a red link is better (as a request for an article) then a link to a disambiguation page without a clear target. Now the redirects ends in a dead end street. While your first indent fix was clearly made in a friendly spirit, I am not certain the second time was. At leat, that's not the way I perceived it and I wanted to let you know. Thank you for your time. -My, oh my! (Mushy Yank) 08:53, 11 September 2023 (UTC)

Your usage of <s>...</s> before the bulleted point (which is a list markup) broke the page. How did it break it? For one example, the
WP:REPLYTOOL will now add comments before your stricken reply instead of after it. This messes with the page layout. Since this isn't a personal page (and in en.wiki there really aren't any of those), no user gets to decide if they want to mess with the correct layout. Now if you already quoted from the relevant guideline, then the parts relevant to this are under "Fixing format errors": fixing indentation levels and fixing list markup and under "Fixing layout errors": etc. Gonnym (talk

MCU talk page banners

Gonnym, I noticed a discrepancy between how {{WikiProject Film}} and {{WikiProject Television}} displays the MCU taskforce when wrapped in WikiProject banner shell. If you look at Draft talk:Darcy Lewis, one says "Marvel Cinematic Universe" and the other says "Marvel". Could you fix that? Thanks. InfiniteNexus (talk) 00:50, 15 September 2023 (UTC)

Legends of Tomorrow episodes

So I'm pretty sure youre aware that I have been working to make a page for every episode of Legends of Tomorrow. So while typicly episodes of the show have reliable filming dates thanks to Keto Shimizu's twitter, the dates for season six arent listed on the twitter posts. And since youve made several TV articles, I was wondering where you can find these typically? OLI 18:44, 13 September 2023 (UTC)

That's a good question but I don't really know. Maybe the people at
WP:TV can help? Also, maybe this website has that information, but it's behind a paywall so I can't check and it might not cover Canadian shoots. Gonnym (talk

(talk page stalker)@OlifanofmrTennant: The Directors' Guild of Canada (not sure if official name), usually has a pdf document they release for shoot dates of series filming in Canada. I know some of the Arrowverse series have used that in the past, might be worth a look seeing if you can find at least the proper organization I'm trying to refer too and then see if they have one for the season you need. - Favre1fan93 (talk) 23:57, 14 September 2023 (UTC)

Yobidashi or Yobidashi

Hi, I noticed that you had removed the italicization from the title on the Yobidashi article. I've had a look at

MOS:OTHERLANG rule does, however, by convention stipulate the use of italics when the term is not common in the English language. I'd like to have your opinion on this before putting italics back in the title. - OtharLuin (talk
) 09:32, 19 September 2023 (UTC)

I removed it as the usage of it was broken (category link as the reason). Regarding if this should be in italics or not as the word itself is a Romanized Japanese word. I really don't know, but feel free to add it back (without linking the category in the reason). Gonnym (talk) 09:36, 19 September 2023 (UTC)

Please hold off on replacing {{IPA-all}}, {{IPA-ca}}, {{IPA-el}}, {{IPA-es}}, {{IPA-la}}, {{IPA-nci}}, {{IPA-no}}, {{IPA-pt}}, {{IPA-sh}}, and {{IPA-sv}}. They had custom syntax and can't be converted just by replacing the hyphen with a pipe. Nardog (talk) 22:54, 19 September 2023 (UTC)

No problem. We'll make sure I don't replace those. Gonnym (talk) 07:08, 20 September 2023 (UTC)
That was fast, good job! Gonnym (talk) 08:47, 21 September 2023 (UTC)
All IPA-xx templates should now be able to be converted to {{IPA}} just by replacing the hyphen with a pipe, except IPA-all, {{IPA-kh}}, {{IPA-le}}, {{IPA-va}}, {{IPA-taiwan}}, and most redirects. Some uses of IPA-el look like they should use grc (IPA-grc redirects to IPA-el).
If you're thinking of TfD'ing them, perhaps start with ones with fewer transclusions. Nardog (talk) 09:45, 23 September 2023 (UTC)

Infobox television episode

Everything okay at home? I do, now, note that you do hundreds of cleanup edits a day, so it must get frustrating when you feel that someone is ignoring you. But seriously, your second edit summary of "I'm unsure how my edit summary was unclear and how your eyes cannot see that one is already there." was uncalled for and unhelpful. I was not ignoring you, and I included specific wording from

WP:SDESC
to explain why I undid your revert - no lashing out, no questioning any of your five senses, no accusations. Believed I was following the guidelines, and copied the guideline to support that. Your original summary of "the infobox already handles this" is not clear, and I went to SDESC page to try and find out what you were getting at (before I reverted back), but there is nothing there saying "infobox episode template creates a WP:SDESC automatically visible in mobile view".

Not knowing this extra feature, as it is not stated at WP:SDESC, the only thing my eyes can see is that the article did not have {{Short description|text text text date}} at the top of the page. So, that explains exactly how my "eyes cannot see that one is already there", because one is not actually there. I have now tested on my own, looking at other episodes of tv series in mobile view, after your less than professional second edit summary (which still did not explain this), and now see how this is automatically populated by the template for mobile view. So thank you, I guess.

Are there other infobox templates that also do this? Why is there no note on the WP:SDESC page specifically explaining this feature? Are we to rely on nastygrams in lieu of actual detail regarding this feature, a pretty good feature at that, for this (and potentially other unmentioned) templates? I do many {{Short description|xxxxxxxx}}, and might be doing others that are already covered automatically by some infobox template. Thank you for your cleanup work, and sincerely hope that you are not being spitefully attacked or ignored by editors. Chin up. Jmg38 (talk) 09:17, 23 October 2023 (UTC)

Hey. I'm sorry you feel attacked by my edit summary but it was a serious question, as I'm assuming (and it might have been incorrectly) that anyone involved in the short description project uses one of the tools to view short descriptions in the article (see Wikipedia:WikiProject Short descriptions#Adding and editing short descriptions), which is why I asked if your eyes cannot see that one is already there. Regarding the automatic handling by the infobox, there are quite a few that do this, see Wikipedia:WikiProject Short descriptions#Auto-generated and bot-generated descriptions and Category:Templates that generate short descriptions. Gonnym (talk) 09:21, 23 October 2023 (UTC)
Thanks. Not part of the short description project, just one of the couple of maintenance things I check when editing an article for other reasons; at the article anyway, so get off my duff and help with other things while I am there. Will check on the two links to automatic handling items you included above. Jmg38 (talk) 09:42, 23 October 2023 (UTC)
The documentation for {{Infobox television episode}} explains that it adds a short description, and every article that already has a short description has a category at the bottom indicating that it has one. Editors who are interested in viewing, adding, and maintaining short descriptions should definitely activate the short description helper gadget in Preferences. – Jonesey95 (talk) 15:08, 23 October 2023 (UTC)

Your edit to {{Infobox comic book title}}

Hi! Could you please revert your edit to {{Infobox comic book title}}? First of all, it causes "missing end tag" linter errors. And second, I think it's wrong. |italic title= is about changing {{DISPLAYTITLE}}, not about the presentation in the infobox. It could for example be used on pages about characters, writers, etc., where the infobox is used somewhere down the article to give information about a specific comic book, but you don't want it influencing the title of the page itself. --rchard2scout (talk) 13:21, 26 October 2023 (UTC)

That's a bad design when you need several parameters to achieve the same end result, but sure. Gonnym (talk) 13:22, 26 October 2023 (UTC)

Revert on 🔞

Please explain your revert.

WP:RCAT clearly states, Soft redirects usually should not be categorized by rcats. Use of {{Soft redirect with Wikidata item}} and {{R category with possibilities}} to tag soft-redirected categories are presently the only exceptions. Thanks. (no need to ping me on reply) Clyde [trout needed]
15:14, 1 November 2023 (UTC)

See the first word usually. You should ask yourself what do we gain by removing the redirect categories? When you removed the categories, the redirect vanished from Category:Redirects from emoji. Would a user who searchs for emoji redirects in that category be helped or hindered by your edit?
Also, see Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Redirect/Archive 6#Redirect templates on soft redirects where this was asked before. It seems that the guideline to not add them is based on a very wrong assumption. Gonnym (talk) 15:22, 1 November 2023 (UTC)
Sounds like a reasonable IAR, although I don't doubt someone else will come along and do it again. And insert spiel about using edit summaries here. Clyde [trout needed] 16:24, 1 November 2023 (UTC)

IPA-xx

I do want all transclusions of IPA-xx templates to be replaced now. I just don't want them to be deleted yet so old revisions continue to display as they did. Perhaps I could ask the closer to tweak the outcome to "convert" or something so one of the TfD bots can do it now. Would that be okay with you? Nardog (talk) 12:31, 3 November 2023 (UTC)

But that was exactly what the TfD was for. I was the only one converting them. I saw that no one was reverting so I nominated them all so a bot can do it instead of me manually having to do it. If you wanted for them to placed in a "non-usage" state for an "x" amount of time after and then deleted, that would have been also fine and you could have said that (I didn't know you wanted that, as the previous batch that was deleted you didn't ask for that). Gonnym (talk) 13:17, 3 November 2023 (UTC)
I'm confused by you saying that you didn't know I wanted that, when I said "Maybe run the bot right now ... before deleting them" and "Prefer showing a warning ... after bot replacement". You nominated them for deletion, not for merger or conversion, so I opposed it. I didn't oppose the first round because it only concerned ones that had few transclusions. I haven't personally converted them (apart from custom syntax) precisely because they have so many transclusions only a bot (or bots) should do it.
Although I said "at least six months, preferably a year", given how prevalent some of them are, and how often they're used in the lead section, now I'm thinking that's too short and I wouldn't give a fixed term. Nardog (talk) 03:58, 4 November 2023 (UTC)
Yes, I nominated them for deletion, as that is the process. There isn't anything to merge and conversion is exactly what I wrote in my nomination: which should be replaced with {{IPA|lang code}}. I'm unclear how anything other than that can be understood.
In any rate, in the current state that they aren't being converted and there is no discussion of deprecation, then I'm going to remove the deprecated template as that just isn't the case and that template isn't appropriate. Gonnym (talk) 13:58, 4 November 2023 (UTC)
So what's stopping us from asking the closer to tweak the outcome so TfD bots can convert them? Nardog (talk) 22:05, 11 November 2023 (UTC)

Category:Television episodes directed by cast member has been nominated for deletion. A discussion is taking place to decide whether this proposal complies with the categorization guidelines.
