Dvirgueza again
Hello. Yeah, I can see what you mean. It is becoming a real problem. If the user touches any of those articles we've been reverting lately and return them to his version, I will block him for a period of one month. I think it's the least that can be done now, considering he gives other users no ears whatsoever. One month sounds good enough to me. Long enough for someone to forget about things and stop kidding around. But that won't do much, since he's using sockpuppets and all. I think in that case, I should probably open a discussion about him on the Administrators' noticeboard, so that other sysops would get into it.
I'll wait until he goes out of line again, then I'll take that action. Better that way, or people might accuse me of being a fasty blocker. It has happened before.
About regular users having a "one-click reversion button", I'm not sure. If they used to have that, I really don't remember. I actually think that would be dangerous, since it would put admins and regular users in the same level when it comes to this. For things to stay stable in Wikipedia, I believe administrators have to always be a step forward. Otherwise, vandals win.
Thanks again for your input. If you need any help again, just send me a message. See you.--Kaonashi 23:58, 8 August 2005 (UTC)

I have absolutely no idea where the list came from. I would guess, if I had to, that it came from here. No idea the source for that. One would assume that the latter part of the list comes from Josephus, but I have no real idea. Surely some of them must be mentioned by Josephus.

Hey, thanks for your support for the Tim Lynch article! You've worked on it before I even knew it existed, and I don't think it would be doing as well without you involved. I honestly think Lynch is notable enough for a wikipedia article, and based on an interview I had with him for a school newspaper, he is quite a remarkable guy. The editor who wants to see the article removed seems extremely biased, and downright malicious at times, it's a shame some people on Wiki have come to that! Anyway I just wanted to say thanks! What's wrong with the material on the novel character named after him, and the clarification that the characters from the movie and DS9 episode were not? I'd like to hear your POV on this. Nightscream 06:06, 9 February 2006 (UTC)

Dragon Ball movies
FUNimation's dubs aren't the only english dubs. "Bridge Entertainment" has also released english dubs of the movies & they have their own titles as well. Does that mean that the pages could be named after Bridge Entertainment's titles (Example: "Dead Zone" would be "The Pursuit of Garlic"). The reason I used the translations of the original titles was because that way it would be more universal.Linkdude20002001 10:01, 17 February 2006 (UTC)
Hey. You removed [[Category:People shot by standing Vice Presidents]] from Harry Whittington with the edit summary "removing contradicted info on his religion, see Talk". I was planning to put Zen Kyo Shin up for AfD, but I noticed that you had previously nommed it and then removed it. I don't see why it shouldn't be deleted. What was you reasoning? - Nat Krause(Talk!) 23:11, 30 April 2006 (UTC)
- My reason for wanting to nom it is not really that it's not significant, exactly. The problem is that it reads like bad historical fiction. The author doesn't seem to be able to make up plausible Chinese names nor does he know very much about the history of Chinese Zen. There's nothing to indicate that this is other than a work of fiction. Since it doesn't say anything else about Zen Kyo Shin other than this fictional history, I don't see any reason to leave the article in Wikipedia. - Nat Krause(Talk!) 04:28, 1 May 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for the notification, Joe. Frankly, I don't have an opinion as to whether the AfD should be closed under "keep" or "withdraw". While the clear consensus was indeed "keep", the nominator withdrew the AfD before five days was over. And if I'm not mistaken, the article can still be taken to AfD again either way. "Dragon Ball Canon" article
As far as I know, there are no official sources that go on to state what is "canon" and what isn't in the manga. obviously, fans have developed their own sense of what is and isn't over the years, which largely falls along the lines of "manga" vs. "anime and everything else;" Unfortunately, I don't know of anything you could really point to that actually spells everything out. Hi Jrp, I saw this article this morning and it read quite a bit like an advertisement so I edited out some of the fluff and it seemed some anon users had changed the GPA requirement that doesn't seem to match what is on the admissions website. I also removed claims that don't seem to be cited by independent sources and didn't really add to the encyclopedic nature of the article. Instead, it seemed as if the article was one giant plea to be considered the same as every other program at Harvard. While I don't doubt that the program is challenging, I would like to see some balance brought to the article and I noticed your previous work on it. The lead was completely to large, filled with fluff, advertising material and seemed to be at odds with
Hi. I've responded to your comments at FAC. I should say that I recognize that this article isn't like most such articles on WP. But I do think there are good justifications for trying to do things slightly differently. Perhaps some of our differences rest on diverse interpretations of the word "maverick"? Meanwhile, I think that my comments to Carcharoth also try to address points you've made. In this light, I've also done a thorough revision of the lead, to better reflect what the article is actually setting out to do. HES not Ivy League?
Ok, there are no good references calling HES ivy League? I understand that you meant that its not traditionally an ivy league institution but then again its not going for that. All it is is a continuing education program administered through an Ivy League institution. This is where I believe that HES suffers from a social stigma rather than a legal stigma. Most of the amnetities affored to College and GSAS students are given to ES students and they all earn the same accredited degree from the same University. Yet, no matter how much this is made known, the social stigma of it being cont. ed. will always hinder it from being seen for what it is. No other non-traditional program has this much of a stigma and pretty much ALL of the major Top 20 institutions have cont.ed programs. The program was never meant to be seen as equals with the College, by all mean, no. But it was never supposed to be a reject school on the other side of the Charles with little to no affiliation with the rest of the university. The school is very integrated, and offers more then what is made known by detractors. You should help the article as much as possible by eliminating false notions that its not what it says it is. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Firstinline2009 (talk • contribs) 23:08, 14 June 2008 (UTC)
- First, this discussion should be on the article talk page, not on user talk pages. Secondly, Ivy League has nothing to do with academics or the quality thereof. The term references a specific athletic conference comprising eight schools - the only schools that rightfully hold the title, "Ivy League." --Ave Caesar (talk) 23:20, 14 June 2008 (UTC)

Future collaboration
Hi Joe. Okay, after struggling with the idea of a special copyeditor's userbox (which wouldn't make a difference, I think), and the idea of helping copyeditors get some already-established form of recognition (which won't work at the FA level because there's only one, co-nom-ship), this is what I've got. The strategy I'll recommend to copyeditors is: brush up on your professional style guides and WPs style guidelines and naming conventions, read a bunch of old WP:FACs and WP:GANs, then look for current FACs and GANs that seem to need copyediting, and copyedit them. (Make sure the the nom(s) have got the message that the article needs copyediting, so they'll know they need your help!) If it's in your power, do what it takes to help the article pass, and then ask in return for a chance to collaborate on future GAs and FAs after the writer(s) know that what you have to offer is useful to them.
Does that sound like a good strategy? And...you're a good researcher and I enjoy biographies, would you like to collaborate on any future articles? (feel free to reply here) - Dan
- The problem as I see it is that copy-editing is difficult in a different way than other Wikipedia work. It is very easy to do poorly and a poorly-done copy-edit makes a page worse, not better. We can try and stress guidelines, we can push manuals of style, and we can provide bullet points of common mistakes and how to avoid them... but even then I'm not convinced you can make a good copy editor without practice, practice, practice. Some people are even then more good at it than others. (Hell, I've written on Wikipedia for years and it seems I still need help!)
- I'd like for copy-editing to be a larger part of the FA process, but since there are a dearth of good copy-editors that want to touch some of the crap that comes through, I don't think that's likely to happen. But your strategy of making that role more available to the process is a good one, but I wouldn't know where to begin to implement it. I need to think on what you've said for a day or two to see if I have any really good suggestions to offer.
- I'm actually going to assemble a page of "reminders" for myself with all the copy-edit hints I've received on this article and my three previous FAs. (Edwin Taylor Pollock, and Benjamin Franklin Tilley) Once I have it written, I'll show it to you for additional remarks. Maybe it can be something useful to others...
- As for collaboration, I'd always be happy to work with you again. The problem is mostly me: I'm not consistent enough that I know what I'm doing much of the time. But, I'd really and truly appreciate your help on the next article that I try and take to FA, whenever that may be. (I hope soon, but I don't even have one started yet. The Henry Minett article was going to be next, but that will be abandoned for lack of secondary sources. Hell, even the government of American Samoa-- I've been emailing their territorial historian-- doesn't know enough about him to make an article and he was their third governor. I may continue on Samoa figures, for no reason other than that it interests me, or jump to something else like the Polaris expedition. JRP (talk) 04:03, 10 July 2008 (UTC)
- I strongly support everything you just said, and that makes me think I'm on the right track with this idea of using copyediting to fish for productive relationships. I'd like to see your summary of what you've learned; it will probably be useful for other writers. Please consider me for future collaborations; what I'm looking for in "payment" is being a "significant contributor" on GAs and a co-nom on FAs, and it's up to you to let me know how much work I have to do on articles you being to earn that. - Dan talk)(mistakes) 12:46, 10 July 2008 (UTC)]

Hands convert template
Hi, I like where you are going with the template to convert
- Your explanation makes sense, although it's kind of a bummer. I'm thinking that maybe what needs to happen is that the first time an article references hands, we may need to do it manually, something like this: "15.2 hands (62 inches (160 cm))" then later on use your template for all the whole numbers, 14, 15, 16 hands, etc... and when in-between, like 14.2, maybe use your template the first time THAT occurs and do it manually to have the decimals thereafter. Hm. No big deal for now, (a couple thousand horse articles to go through, templates everywhere won't happen any time soon) maybe I can run this past WikiProject Equine later on when there is time for discussion (most WPEQ worker bees are sort of busy right now). - This most be a USA thing? Maybe you don't use centimetres daily. Just letting you know that in the United Kingdom, Europe and Australia too, 14.2 hh is ALWAYS rounded up to 148cm in measuring ponies. So none of your calculations to make it 147cm (actually its 1473mm or 147.3cm).[3] So here it is: 12.2hh = 128cm, 13.2hh = 138cm, 14.2hh = 148cm, 15.2hh = 158cm, 16.2hh = 168cm, 17.0hh = 173cm, so the height of horses and ponies is rounded up or down to these heights. And its always 'hh' when written down. 86.153.161.214 (talk) 19:02, 10 September 2008 (UTC)]

Advert Tag in Lycos Page
Regarding your note in the discussion page for Lycos, a short paragraph about the 2000-2004 period, explaining why the value of the company collapsed and the reasons of the decline in the market share of Lycos, placed before the fifth paragraph in Corporate Development part would do the trick I guess. Without such an explanation the article seems like a naive glass-half-full one.--Eleman (talk) 09:29, 21 October 2008 (UTC)

I have the answers to all the questions already researched, just I haven't had time to put them up. (Weston, for example, was arrested for the failure of the colony that "he" ran and for allegedly selling weapons which had been intended to the colony elsewhere, against English law. He admitted to the second, but Governor Gorges released him "on his word" rather than hold him or ship him to England for trial. He subsequently moved to Virginia.) Blocked
{{unblock|Your reason here}}
below, but you should read our guide to appealing blocks first. feydey (talk) 22:41, 6 April 2010 (UTC)
{{unblock|What the heck? I'm assuming that this is in error. I've not been recently warned about images and just uploaded one that I neglected to put a copyright tag on yesterday. I've been a wikipedia contributor for for six years with a number of "Featured" and "Good" articles under my belt, so I might have expected a bit more in the way of communication before you outright block me from editing. Please unblock.
- In specific, I was warned by feydey at 17:39, 6 April 2010 about a missing copyright tag in an uploaded image. I was blocked without being given an opportunity to fix this at 17:41.
- Previous "warnings" I have received which Feydey may have been referring to:
- Several "orphaned" image warnings from October 2009 and May of 2009. Both of these were uncontested because subsequent editors of the pages those images were placed in removed them, so it was correct for Wikipedia to remove the orphaned images.
- I was also notified in May and June of 2009 that several images of beltway signs that I had uploaded required additional permissions. I had that permission, but was aware that another user was working on SVG and copyleft alternatives to those images and so allowed the ones I uploaded to be deleted.
In both of these cases, I believe that I acted properly and am not a risk to Wikipedia. Over a history of thousands of edits, I have understood and conformed to the rules.}}
I've asked Feydey to clarify. But you recently uploaded three images,
- I didn't leave out required information deliberately. The only issue I am aware of is the copyright notice on the Tripod one, which I can fix with a copyright tag. I did not believe that any of the other fields were required. The Lycos one was just a re-upload of an image that was already there because I noticed that it was old. The other two I just did because I had downloaded the full-page capture software and figured that while I was in there I might as well fill out the "screenshot" fields in their infoboxes. JRP (talk) 21:20, 7 April 2010 (UTC)
I, too, have asked Feydey to explain himself. You made your best effort to comply with a poorly-explained policy on your first uploads in three years, and for some reason he thinks this requires you be blocked for 48 hours? This is exactly the sort of thing some of us were afraid would happen with the fair-use policy. I am seriously considering an unblock if he doesn't respond by next morning US EDT (i.e., within 8 hours). Daniel Case (talk) 03:24, 8 April 2010 (UTC)
- An established user like this should know by now (several image warnings) how to upload images. By following the uploaders explanations they failed to add a license when they could have used f.ex. WP:IMAGEHELP - clearly linked on image upload page - to clarify the license before uploading. I will assume good faith and unblock the user and expect better judgment and actions in the future. Best, feydey (talk) 06:51, 8 April 2010 (UTC)]

"So, by that logic, it seems to me that this article's title should be "Gaspar de Guzmán, Count-Duke of Olivares", not "Gaspar de Guzmán y Pimentel, Count-Duke of Olivares".
