Progress on Operation: Find the Toho Dub Voice Actors
As mentioned on the Talk page for
I haven't found any clips online as of yet. Could you inform me if and when you find any? PatTheMoron (talk) 14:47, 23 December 2014 (UTC)
- Will do. --Ryanasaurus007 (talk) 21:16, 23 December 2014 (UTC)
Sorry Ryan, I won't be around to help you over the next three weeks or so - I'm going on a school-related overseas trip and probably will be spending that time away from Wikipedia and the internet in general. PatTheMoron (talk) 11:26, 27 December 2014 (UTC)
- I'm feeling a bit less certain about Cliff Harrington as Dan Dunn, but here's a clip from Revenge of the Ninja Warrior featuring Mark Twain. Listen from the 13-minute mark. Though the Police Commissioner sounds a bit gruffer than Twain now that I've had the chance to compare their voices, I thought I heard a similarity between the two. Were you able to recognize any of the other voices between here and Mamo? --Ryanasaurus007 (talk) 21:43, 23 January 2015 (UTC)
Thanks. I'll try and have a listen. PatTheMoron (talk) 08:21, 24 January 2015 (UTC)
- Been a couple of weeks. Have you given the clip a listen yet? Just wondering. --Ryanasaurus007 (talk) 05:06, 9 February 2015 (UTC)
Sorry, pal. I've been a bit busy (including working on Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind (manga), but I did listen to the clip. There's that guy near the end of the video that you mentioned, and he's almost definitely the same guy who did Ed Scott's Commissioner. I briefly thought at times that the lead character was a good candidate for Lupin, but I pretty convinced they aren't the same guy. Is there a scene involving the guy who you thought might be Dan Dunn? PatTheMoron (talk) 05:16, 9 February 2015 (UTC)
Just had another listen - his voice is nearly identical to Gordon, but it's definitely possible he voiced the Commissioner with a gruffer voice. PatTheMoron (talk) 10:42, 9 February 2015 (UTC)
- Two things at this point.
- Speaking of Knode, did you recognize Steve Knode (the voice of Siegfried in Swan Lake) as any character in Mamo?
- Did you recognize any other voices in that Kamui clip as any character in Mamo?
- Just wondering. Oh, as for my suspicions about Dan Dunn, I'll investigate further. I'll rewatch my tape of the film and send you a clip for comparison once I find a suitable point, if any. --Ryanasaurus007 (talk) 17:22, 9 February 2015 (UTC)
- UPDATE: Listen to this clip starting around the 10-minute mark. The bearded guy, known as Tarouza, is voiced by Cliff Harrington. I thought this was the best comparison point to go by when listening for Dan Dunn's voice. --Ryanasaurus007 (talk) 05:27, 12 February 2015 (UTC)
Yeah, on initial listening, Harrington doesn't sound much like Dan. I'll check again once I have access to my Mamo DVD. PatTheMoron (talk) 05:33, 12 February 2015 (UTC)
- Somehow Tarouza's voice kind of struck me as being somewhat similar to that of Dan Dunn. Here's a couple of recordings of other roles voiced by the man. --Ryanasaurus007 (talk) 05:56, 12 February 2015 (UTC)
- I don't know why, but progress has stalled for some reason. Did you listen to the clips on the Cliff Harrington page to which I'd linked last month? Just wondering. --Ryanasaurus007 (talk) 19:40, 16 March 2015 (UTC)

While we're still figuring out the voice actors for the Frontier English dub of
Oh, and in case we stall again, how else shall I contact you? --Ryanasaurus007 (talk) 05:14, 25 March 2015 (UTC)

- Will do. Thanks! --Ryanasaurus007 (talk) 17:48, 25 March 2015 (UTC)
UPDATE: I just sent my first email to you a couple of days ago, regarding the (rather remote) possibility that Cliff Harrington, the voice of Dr. Gilmore in Defenders of the Vortex, may have voiced the Egyptian police chief. Please respond to it whenever you can, and when you're able to view it, I'll leave a link to the relevant video here. Oh, while we're still in Egypt, why don't we try to find who voiced said Egyptian police chief's underling(s)? Thanks! --Ryanasaurus007 (talk) 20:25, 2 April 2015 (UTC)
I'm not sure if I've recieved the email yet. What was its title, and what was the identity of the sender (ie you)? PatTheMoron (talk) 01:22, 3 April 2015 (UTC)
- I believe the subject is something along the lines of "Correspondence regarding the Lupin III Frontier dub", if not exactly that, and my AOL Mail account's got an extra 7 in its name for some reason. --Ryanasaurus007 (talk) 02:58, 3 April 2015 (UTC)
Yeah, I haven't recieved any such email. Try sending it to the address I noted above, but with a .au at the end. So yes, I am indeed Australian. PatTheMoron (talk) 08:15, 4 April 2015 (UTC)
- I tried, and it was returned as undeliverable. Network issues, by the looks of it. --Ryanasaurus007 (talk) 19:42, 4 April 2015 (UTC)
You know what? Since our email addresses don't want to cooperate, I guess I'm forced to take it here. Anyway, while watching Defenders of the Vortex, I noticed during the scene where Gallo first appears before the Cyborgs that Dr. Gilmore's yelling voice kind of resembles that of the Egyptian police chief from
I listened to a sample of Harrington from the Frontier dub of the Cyborg 009, and he could be a candidate for the Egyptian Chief if he put on an accent and deepened his voice. Could you provide a link of the scene from Vortex where Harrington's yells reminded you of the Chief? PatTheMoron (talk) 23:32, 11 April 2015 (UTC)
- For the comparison, I recommend you go to around 22:45 of this video, when Dr. Gilmore yells at Gallo, "Who are you!?" But really, there may be other surprises and advancements in the Lupin III cast identification during the video. You might even hear minor characters from The Mystery of Mamo somewhere in this video in addition to what we're listening for. --Ryanasaurus007 (talk) 04:20, 12 April 2015 (UTC)
I had a listen, and I wasn't convinced by the sample you recommended. I'm also not sure if any of the other voices suited the characters from Mamo. PatTheMoron (talk) 08:31, 12 April 2015 (UTC)
- Perhaps you might want to watch the whole video and pay close attention to other moments where Dr. Gilmore is shouting, if and when you have the time? In addition, apart from the Egyptian police chief, we still haven't found positive ID's for the voices of...
- Arsene Lupin III
- Dan Dunn
- Henrig Gissinger
- Flinch/Flintstone/whoever Mamaux's purple-clad bald thug is
- Egyptian police officer(s)
- U.S. President
- Soviet Secretary General
- Lead scientist
- Seismograph personnel
- ...and that's about all I can think of who are unidentified. (Speaking of Flinch, only his Japanese and Geneon voices have been identified, and that's because they were listed plainly in the credits. As for the Streamline Flinch, I think it was either Steve Kramer or an unidentified Kerrigan Mahan, but that's a story for another dub.) --Ryanasaurus007 (talk) 17:03, 12 April 2015 (UTC)
I'll give it a shot if I have the time. However, we should keep in mind that some of these voices may never be identified, because while William Ross would clearly hire English speakers who were permanent residents in Tokyo, it's just as likely that plenty of the voices in his dubs were provided by tourists. PatTheMoron (talk) 23:25, 12 April 2015 (UTC)
- Tell you the truth, my biggest concerns are the more major characters. Also, apart from those sources we've already checked, in whole or in part (Defenders of the Vortex, Revenge of the Ninja Warrior, Swan Lake, and Vengeance of the Space Pirate), William Ross also dubbed an anime adaptation of Aladdin, called Aladdin and His Wonderful Lamp if I remember correctly. Oh, and check that Swan Lake clip you provided again. Did you recognize Joe Zucatti (the voice of Von Rothbart) as any of the above characters from Mamo? --Ryanasaurus007 (talk) 20:22, 14 April 2015 (UTC)
This just in, some other Frontier Enterprises fan, name of MissReven, brought up the possibility that Lupin may have been voiced by Jeff Manning, but this was quickly disproved by a quick look at his Japanese Wikipedia article, which says he came to Japan in 1983, four years after the dub was produced. --Ryanasaurus007 (talk) 15:26, 30 April 2015 (UTC)
It's perfectly possible that Manning COULD have voiced him - who knows, maybe he was on a trip to Tokyo in 1978/9? At the very least, could you or MissReven provide me with a voice clip from any of his roles, Ryan? PatTheMoron (talk) 08:12, 1 May 2015 (UTC)
- MissReven did mention that Lupin sounded similar to Chang Changku/006, but without the accent. --Ryanasaurus007 (talk) 08:56, 1 May 2015 (UTC)

The Crystal Acids database has a listing for the Frontier dub of
- I saw that a while ago. While I usually find Crystalacids trustworthy, that page simply states that it's a speculation, and Sandra Snow is an impossible candidate for reasons we're probably aware of by now. PatTheMoron (talk) 07:56, 22 June 2015 (UTC)
- Anyway, have you found any other possible leads in regards to the Frontier dub voices since we last made contact? --Ryanasaurus007 (talk) 16:13, 22 June 2015 (UTC)
Nothing new as of yet. Any luck on your end? PatTheMoron (talk) 03:29, 23 June 2015 (UTC)
- Unfortunately, no. For now, I'll have to content myself with trying to identify the voices of Voltes V (the Frontier dub, obviously); my interest in Frontier, after all, may have started with The Mystery of Mamo, but it definitely doesn't stop there. Who knows, I may even recognize a Mamo character in Voltes V, considering it's an early '80s dub. --Ryanasaurus007 (talk) 03:23, 24 June 2015 (UTC)
- UPDATE: At the very start of Voltes V, when the aliens are about to invade the Earth (the scene depicts the aliens), I think I heard either Lupin or Mamaux. I'm pretty sure it was closer to Lupin's voice, though. You can listen for yourself around the 2-minute mark. I doubt that'll lead us to identify Lupin's voice actor by name immediately, but we now know that he also voiced the leader of the invaders (as evidenced by his being addressed as "Your Highness" just before he starts speaking) in Voltes V. (Oh, and I think I also heard Margo's voice as one of his subordinates.) I'll post more updates as I recognize more Mamo voices. --Ryanasaurus007 (talk) 03:33, 24 June 2015 (UTC)
- UPDATE 2: I think I heard Mamaux around the 4-minute mark of the film. I'll keep listening for Mamo voices. --Ryanasaurus007 (talk) 03:42, 24 June 2015 (UTC)
I'll have a listen when I get home. PatTheMoron (talk) 05:24, 24 June 2015 (UTC)

Hello Pat. I was wondering if you want to help me work on expanding an article for me?--Paleface Jack (talk) 01:11, 28 February 2016 (UTC)
- Okay, which article are you interested in, and why me specifically? PatTheMoron (talk) 01:20, 28 February 2016 (UTC)
The reason I asked you is because I saw your work for the article on The Great Silence and I see that you are good at finding sources and so I thought that you might be interested. The article that I am working on is the infamous and influential Exploitation film I Drink Your Blood, I already created a Userspace Draft for use in this expansion but I need more people to help me with it. Specifically I need someone to find sources for the unsourced material. If you are interested here is the Userspace Draft: User:Paleface Jack/I Drink Your Blood (revision) (P.S. If you are going to help me please do it on the User Draft and not the actual article).--Paleface Jack (talk) 05:47, 28 February 2016 (UTC)

Hi I noticed you've been using auxiliary fields to add extra information to character infoboxes. However I ask that you reconsider doing this. The accepted parameters in the infobox are purposefully limited to the most basic information because infoboxes are meant to quickly summarize article information at a glance, not provide every piece of data. Interesting editing errors, possibly related to mobile edits
Hey there! I have noticed a number of recent edits by a variety of editors to a variety of pages that have added malformed "small" tags, like the ones in this edit to El Cid. (The error is that "small/" should be "/small" in the code.) Are you typing those "small" tags yourself, or are you clicking on a button or toolbar of some sort while you are editing? If the latter, can you let me know what software you are using to edit the page? I'd like to get that software fixed. Thanks. – Jonesey95 (talk) 05:09, 24 October 2016 (UTC)

Thanks for uploading File:Lindaveras.jpg. I noticed that this file is being used under a claim of fair use. However, I think that the way it is being used fails the first non-free content criterion. This criterion states that files used under claims of fair use may have no free equivalent; in other words, if the file could be adequately covered by a freely-licensed file or by text alone, then it may not be used on Wikipedia. If you believe this file is not replaceable, please:
- Go to the file description page and add the text
{{di-replaceable fair use disputed|<your reason>}}
below the original replaceable fair use template, replacing<your reason>
with a short explanation of why the file is not replaceable. - On the file discussion page, write a full explanation of why you believe the file is not replaceable.
Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).
If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per the non-free content policy. I tried to explain it in the edit, but I think it is best not to include the "Uncredited" notice in the infobox on the I Vampiri article. The actual work done on the film is not going to match the title credits, and should not. For example, in the article its stated that "The screenplay of I Vampiri is credited to Piero Regnoli and the fictional writer and scenarist Rijk Sijöstrom." "Rijk Sijöstrom" is definately in the film credits, but he is not actually a real person according to the sources in the article. But how do you illustrate that in the infobox? Right, it can not be done. Have faith that people can read. No one is continuously returning to that page to add/remove Bava from the infobox, so we don't need to clarify it. Sound ok? What do you think? Andrzejbanas (talk) 14:43, 21 August 2017 (UTC)

Hi, thanks for providing sources on British involvement. I still don't think this is enough for WiF to qualify as a "British co-production". The vast majority of sources refer to it solely as an Australian film, and less so Australian/American. I suggest you start a discussion on the WiF talk page to attract the attention of more editors to help resolve this matter. - HappyWaldo (talk) 11:55, 1 October 2017 (UTC)

- In this edit, you're engaging in textbook synthesis by citing three individual sources and coming to your own personal conclusion – which none of them explicitly say. If you want to add a critical consensus, you have to cite a source that explicitly says there's a critical consensus, not invent your own. NinjaRobotPirate (talk) 04:44, 13 December 2018 (UTC)]
Do you have any recommendations for what I should write instead, or would it be better to rollback to your previous edit? PatTheMoron (talk) 04:48, 13 December 2018 (UTC)
- I usually just paraphrase what Rotten Tomatoes says in their consensus. If there isn't anything useful there, I check Entertainment Weekly. See, for example this story, which explicitly describes a critical consensus. Other entertainment industry magazines, such as Variety and The Hollywood Reporter, also do stories like this, but EW seems to like running these "critical consensus" stories pretty regularly. If there aren't any news articles about what critics thought, and there isn't a critical consensus statement listed at Rotten Tomatoes, maybe there just isn't any consensus. There isn't anything wrong with just reporting the Rotten Tomatoes percentage (or whatever) without editorializing about what critics thought. There could very well be 10 more reviews out there that didn't find it derivative, which is why we can't use those three reviews to establish that there's a consensus. NinjaRobotPirate (talk) 05:20, 13 December 2018 (UTC)
I've replaced the sources for the consensus at the beginning with the EW review, but if you don't think it works, I can happily not include a consensus for the time being. PatTheMoron (talk) 04:49, 15 December 2018 (UTC)

Fistful of Dollars dub cast
Thought you might be interested in this. Here's what I've figured out thus far about the English dub cast. --2600:6C5D:5B00:7C0B:B889:8D7F:4469:B15D (talk) 22:32, 16 February 2019 (UTC)
- Thanks for this! Although we can't yet use that as a source since it would be considered original research, here are my two cents: Esteban is almost certainly voiced by Bernie Grant, given how similar his voice is to Ramon. Tim Lucas has said that Anthony La Penna - who was in demand both in the New York and Rome dubbing scenes - worked on the film, although I don't know which character he voiced (haven't seen the film in a while), although you might be able to pick it from his voice in the trailer for Kill, Baby, Kill (he dubs the bald Burgomeister Karl). I'm not sure who voiced John Baxter, but he seems to be another actor who worked both in Rome and in New York - he dubbed Geoffrey Copleston in Lucio Fulci's One on Top of the Other. I'm going to hazard a guess that Lucas identifies many of the dubbing actors in his audio commentary for Kino Lorber's newer Blu-ray of the film, but I don't own that version so I can't be sure. PatTheMoron (talk) 22:58, 16 February 2019 (UTC)
Lucas has just stated this: "I don't carry the film and its soundtrack around in my head, but I commented on the dubbing throughout my audio commentaries for the films. If I can hear the voice, I can tell you who it is most often, but I can't do the work from a list. Fortunately, I do my commentaries from scripts.
In searching through my FISTFUL commentary script, I see no reference to Anthony La Penna, but he may have worked on later films. I have Bernie Grant listed as Ramon Rojo, John Baxter, Esteban Rojo, and other incidental characters - and Don Miguel dubbed by George Gonneau (who worked with Grant and Joyce Gordon at Titra Sound in NYC). He is CERTAINLY NOT voiced by Peter Fernandez! Marisol has very little dialogue, and I am not sure about her (Marianne Koch was multi-lingual) but Joyce Gordon certainly voiced Consuelo (in the same voice she used for Claudia Cardinale in ONCE UPON A TIME IN THE WEST). I don't know the names or voices of either Robert Dryden or Ray Owens, so I'd be no good with those."
Not sure if this helps, but there it is. PatTheMoron (talk) 00:06, 17 February 2019 (UTC)
- I've just updated my post accordingly. Let me know if you can recognize any other Titra voice actor. Thanks! --2600:6C5D:5B00:7C0B:20E7:3D17:1875:1D74 (talk) 01:02, 17 February 2019 (UTC)
As for the other two films in the Dollars Trilogy... for starters, do you think George Gonneau was the English dub voice of Baker in TGTBATU? (Also, you might recognise both Robert Dryden and Ray Owens in FAFDM: the former as the voice of the Old Prophet complaining about those damn trains, and the latter as not one, but two of Indio's mooks—specifically, Groggy and Nino.) --2600:6C5D:5B00:7C0B:1C44:4E9B:A2B4:75B1 (talk) 06:37, 17 February 2019 (UTC)
From the voice of Aoyagi in this video, do you think Larry Robinson had a role in any of the Dollars Trilogy films? --2600:6C5D:5B00:2B99:A921:B107:A07C:296F (talk) 05:29, 11 March 2020 (UTC)

Please do not directly edit Wikipedia:Good article nominations
PatTheMoron, I thought you'd want to know that the Good Article nominations page is not supposed to be edited by nominators. The page is built by a bot, and rewritten every 20 minutes or so by it, based on articles nominated on their talk pages. If the bot doesn't pick up the nomination, then something is wrong. In this case, you didn't put the nomination at the top of the page; what happened was that you placed it inside the WikiProjectBannerShell template, where the bot couldn't see it. (This is one reason why the

- Cheers for keeping me in check again - I am trying to find a way to introduce the video more clearly and earlier than in the DVD info, but I'll have a look over some of my sources again (such as Yauch's commentary) so that I can write what I had hoped to say more clearly, and without original research. PatTheMoron (talk) 16:52, 31 October 2020 (UTC)
- No problem. Happy to help. Just as a heads up, I'd be careful about labelling things as cult films. I feel like that term is tossed around for any old genre film and I feel like we owe it to readers to explain how a film is a cult film (i.e: what is its following? is the filmed revived in any sort of Rocky Horror way, does it have some notable fanbase, convention, etc.) The Barbarella fanbase is explained through its popularity even into the mainstream decades later, but don't try to thrust it into articles. It doesn't usually enhance articles in any major way. Andrzejbanas (talk) 15:53, 1 November 2020 (UTC)
Understood - I certainly wouldn't use the cult film designation to describe all of Bava's films, but I do think Diabolik fits the label for similar reasons to Barbarella - in his book, Lucas notes that the film gained popularity among the lounge music crowd of the 90s, and that specifically a letter-writing campaign from its fanbase led a hesitant Paramount to finally release it on VHS. In the From Fumetti to Film featurette, Stephen R. Bissette talks about how the film also gained popularity among a section of the comic fandom due to Bava's efforts to make the film visually resemble a comic, while Kat Ellinger notes in her video essay on the Imprint Blu-ray that (like Barbarella) its emphasis on sexuality puts it in contrast to the asexual trappings of the MCU - I'll try and see if I can work a lot of this into the article. Please stop your disruptive editing. If you continue to add unsourced or poorly sourced content, as you did at Savage Gringo, you may be blocked from editing. . National Lampoon's Vacation (film series)
Hello. I apologise to bother you, but if you do not mind, I would like to ask a question regarding the article National Lampoon's Vacation (film series). Recently, I have found out about another project, namely a series of commercials for AAMI featuring Chevy Chase (the source). They have been archived and can be watched online: ad 1, ad 2, ad 3. To my knowledge, these TV commercials originally aired in 1998 (the source, see at 1:00:40 as well as 1:24:18). Is it worth mentioning in the article and should it be included in the release timeline? PS. I believe it would be reasonable to clarify there have been four TV spots for Old Navy featuring the Griswold family (the source, a rumoured fifth one never aired). Thank you very much in advance. Kind regards, --89.66.254.10 (talk) 21:15, 25 October 2021 (UTC)

So I see you've added some content to the Sartana article, but you have changed what is said in the article. here and here. This information is not in the source material. Why did you make these edits without a source? Andrzejbanas (talk) 14:52, 15 November 2021 (UTC)
- Hi, The Sabata Trilogy, which does include the "Frank Kramer" credit in parenthesis), but if the booklet specifically contradicts my changes, reverting them is fine. This source (https://books.google.com.au/books?id=5fTmREw7q6AC&pg=PA129&dq=Vittorio+Martino+sartana&hl=en&newbks=1&newbks_redir=0&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwirh5X48Jz0AhVWZt4KHRaSD2oQ6AF6BAgKEAI#v=onepage&q=Vittorio%20Martino%20sartana&f=false) lists the onscreen producers of Have a Good Funeral, but elsewhere, when featuring Sartana's Here (https://books.google.com.au/books?id=5fTmREw7q6AC&pg=PA129&dq=Vittorio+Martino+sartana&hl=en&newbks=1&newbks_redir=0&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwirh5X48Jz0AhVWZt4KHRaSD2oQ6AF6BAgKEAI#v=onepage&q=sartana%20bara&f=false), it not only fails to credit a producer, but also suggests it was a Spanish co-production with the same company as Have a Good Funeral (which is highly unlikely, given the lack of Spanish locations and cast members). PatTheMoron (talk) 12:40, 16 November 2021 (UTC)]
- Yeah that's my hunch. I'm leaning towards the arrow one being accurate as you and I have both seen the Italian film credits being wrong to flat out lies for tax purposes, etc. I'm thinking to go towards the book source on it. These are obscure films so I'm expecting a lot of misinformation. Andrzejbanas (talk) 13:21, 16 November 2021 (UTC)
