Hello, S.A. Julio. I just would like to ask why you made my Wikipedia page entitled 'MLS Is Back Tournament Group A' a redirect when I intended it to be a seperate page. Thanks for your response in advance. Cloudofclouds. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Cloudofclouds (talkcontribs) 06:41, 13 July 2020 (UTC)

Re: UEFA goal minutes

Yes, absolutely. UEFA matches reports in PDF are usually more accurate than the classic UEFA link which is normally being used into UEFA website.--Island92 (talk) 23:03, 5 September 2020 (UTC)

How can I, directly, contact UEFA.com? It's pretty ridicoulous but these mistakes are still present. Every single minute goal is ahead of 60 seconds from the minute goal being reported into PDF report. I Hope before October matches, they can fix this system error.--Island92 (talk) 21:39, 8 September 2020 (UTC)
@Island92: Yes, hopefully they will come around to fixing this. UEFA used to have a contact form on their website, seems to have disappeared now, only email address I could find is servicedesk@uefa.ch. S.A. Julio (talk) 22:24, 8 September 2020 (UTC)

Uploading a football programme cover

Hi S.A.,

Did I do this the right way? I saw that you've uploaded programmes in the past:

File:WFA Cup Final 1978 - Southampton Ladies v QPR, women's match at Slough.jpg

It's the first time I've uploaded a programme cover, and the fair-use rationale is a little scary, as if it'll be deleted at any minute. The event is the 1977–78 WFA Cup Final; there's very little info available on these years of the WFA Cup (now Women's FA Cup), but the programme has some important details that I hope will stay online.

Thanks,

Hello WOSO editors!

What a year to be alive. As usual (but perhaps even moreso since there have been unexpected quarantines), there has been a lot of activity on player, team, league and tournament-related Wikipedia articles with all of the worldwide coverage of women's football / soccer. Great work!

Fall Focus: FA WSL articles

You may have noticed lots of great things going on for the top English league this year: the

FA WSL

Euro 2020: Czech training base

I have no idea why you reinstated the error regarding the Czech training base, but I won't be getting into an edit war.

It would have been quicker for you to google "czech oriam" than to revert, but I'll leave the error in place. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Pete Ridges (talkcontribs) 16:08, 14 October 2020 (UTC)

@Pete Ridges: The article follows what is stated in the UEFA source. The table is meant to list cities, not specific locations/venues. Also note that the first two articles I checked (here and here) both mention Currie. S.A. Julio (talk) 16:34, 14 October 2020 (UTC)

2020-21 UEFA Women's Champions League
Spelling Confusion

The player Khatia Tchkonia of the club Lanchkuti spelling has been written as Khatia Chkonia on the UEFA website and Khatia Tchkonia in Wikipedia. Which spelling should I use? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Paninigenie (talkcontribs) 11:46, 4 November 2020 (UTC) --Paninigenie (talk) 12:05, 4 November 2020 (UTC)

@Paninigenie: UEFA seem to use both spellings on their website (here and here). I would use the name in the article title, the Turkish Football Federation also use the spelling. S.A. Julio (talk) 19:17, 5 November 2020 (UTC)

If the match is called off, as unlikely as that is, he wouldn't be an England international. But more pertinently, him being an England international is not mentioned in the article and is therefore entirely unsourced. I would ask that you revert yourself and wait until when the match is finished and when supporting content is included in the article with a reference. Mattythewhite (talk) 21:38, 12 November 2020 (UTC)

Nations League statistics

Hello! What was the point of reverting the whole set of Nations League stats? Similar sets of records and statistics perfectly exist on Wikipedia for other tournaments, such as

List of FIFA World Cup records and statistics. You cannot plausibly argue that things as basic as "6-0 is the biggest win over the two NL seasons" or "Iceland have lost all their NL games" requires an external source. Or shall we create a separate article if you feel this set of information looks awkward on the main one? Ivan Volodin (talk
) 20:37, 21 November 2020 (UTC)

@
reliable, published source. However, it should not be difficult to find sources, for example this could be used. It is probably not suited for the main Nations League article, I would recommend creating List of UEFA Nations League records and statistics. S.A. Julio (talk
) 20:49, 21 November 2020 (UTC)
I will then create that separate page. Let me just point out that football articles here do contain quite a lot of unsourced data and it is established practice that they are trusted as long as there is no obvious reason to doubt their credibility. Consider
this for example. Ivan Volodin (talk

Score lines

Hi there. I have noticed "wrong" scorelines in many of your page creations, where the higher score is written second: "0–1", "1–2", etc. I believe it's been WP:FOOTY consensus for a while to write higher scores first. This was most recently discussed here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Football#Scorelines_used_in_text. Kind regards, Robby.is.on (talk) 10:55, 21 January 2021 (UTC)

2020 Supercoppa Italiana

Hello. This current file should be fixed per official source. Looking into it, McKennie and Chiesa should swap their position on the pitch, as well as Bentancur with Arthur.--Island92 (talk) 20:48, 26 January 2021 (UTC)

@Island92: That seems to be a mistake, in reality it seems that McKennie played mostly on the right, and Chiesa on the left. This is reflected by Soccerway. S.A. Julio (talk) 10:25, 29 January 2021 (UTC)
Shouldn't we follow the official source? I doesn't matter whether they changed their position on the pitch when the final was being played. Their initial position was as it is reported in the source and in the graphic line up presentation before the even occured.--Island92 (talk) 10:58, 29 January 2021 (UTC)
I usually go with the official source, but in this case it was not published until after the match. So in this case I used Soccerway, a reliable source which usually represents the positions correctly. S.A. Julio (talk) 13:45, 4 February 2021 (UTC)

Hey, quick question: how do you know that Algeria will be in group D? Nehme1499 19:14, 26 April 2021 (UTC)

@Nehme1499: It's mentioned in the last page of FIFA's draw procedure PDF. By the way, do you think we should have sub-articles for the tournament, i.e. Group A, B... knockout stage and final? It is a FIFA tournament, and takes the role of the former Confederations Cup as a test event for the World Cup. S.A. Julio (talk) 19:20, 26 April 2021 (UTC)
Thanks for the document, it makes the whole qualifying procedure a bit clearer. Regarding making separate sub-articles: we could maybe do one called
2021 FIFA Arab Cup Final). I'm unsure whether coverage will be good enough to warrant separate articles for each of the four groups, but I wouldn't be completely against it. Nehme1499
19:37, 26 April 2021 (UTC)
@Nehme1499: Alright, I think once the tournament is closer we can see if such articles are necessary/noteworthy. I imagine at least the final should be notable though. S.A. Julio (talk) 22:44, 26 April 2021 (UTC)
By the way, this article by UAFA and this page by FIFA seem to suggest that the 2021 FIFA Arab Cup is a continuation of the
Arab Nations Cup (which should anyway be called Arab Cup as the word "Nations" isn't part of the official name either in Arabic or English). Nehme1499

Why are you reverting my changes about Polish squad? There are 27 players in the team. The camp will start on May 24. The final squad will be announced on June 1." and the first source (Polish Football Assocation) says the same thing: "During Monday's press conference, the coach of the Polish national team, Paulo Sousa, announced the list of players appointed for the white and red team in Opalenica, constituting direct preparations for the European championship. The coach also gave a list of reserve players who can join the team in the event of an injury.". Also both sources says about 27-man squad, which obviously can't be the final one. DYK for European Super League

On 8 June 2021, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article European Super League, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that when the European Super League was proposed, UEFA threatened to ban any footballers who took part from playing international football? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/European Super League Company, S.L.. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, European Super League), and if they received a combined total of at least 416.7 views per hour (i.e., 5,000 views in 12 hours or 10,000 in 24), the hook may be added to the statistics page. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Referee Euro 2020

I understand you, but here I don't see the reserve assistant referee. Is it important to add him in that list anyway? He won't be displayed as here. In addition, I don't see the need to show - Offside video assistant referee: - and Support video assistant referee: because as here the roles won't be specified. IMO, by showing just Assistant video assistant referee: should be sufficient. Island92 (talk) 20:38, 9 June 2021 (UTC)

@Island92: Well UEFA.com lists AVAR3, so I thought it might be useful to name the specific role, but the explanation on the main article should suffice. As for the reserve assistant, they are a member of the officiating team and have been included on World Cup articles since 2006 and the Euro since 2008, so there is no reason to exclude it here. The UEFA.com match pages do not have a "slot" to list this official, but as you have seen it can be found in the press kits (once they are updated). Unfortunately UEFA (so far) have not published a news article with all the appointments like the last Euro. S.A. Julio (talk) 08:33, 11 June 2021 (UTC)
Good! The new squad referee order list now looks perfect for each match! Island92 (talk) 10:53, 11 June 2021 (UTC)
Unlike UEFA Euro 2016 Tactical Line-ups pdf file, for UEFA Euro 2020 the Reserve Assistant Referee is showed. Therefore, the current order for referee squad must be as the follow for each match:

Assistant referees:
Fourth official:
Reserve assistant referee:
Video assistant referee:
Assistant video assistant referees:

Programme covers in infobox of match articles

Morning S.A. Julio

Just a heads up that I've removed the programme images from the 2012 and 2020 Euro finals articles. Per

WP:NFCCP criterion #7, "Non-free content is used only if its presence would significantly increase readers' understanding of the article topic, and its omission would be detrimental to that understanding". That clearly isn't met here, as programme covers are just a tangential aspect of the match. I don't see how including or not including them in the infobox could be said to to significantly change readers' understanding of the topic. That's very different from a logo, for example the one at Coventry City F.C., which is an integral and key symbol associated with that article. Cheers  — Amakuru (talk

Hi @S.A. Julio,

Hope you're all good. I'm writing about a podcast I'm making about Wikipedia and was wondering if you'd be happy to talk to me? I'm on the hunt for people who've created the pages for big news stories that have happened this year and can see you made the 2020 Euro Final page, and was wondering if you'd be up for chatting with me to tell me a bit more about what creating that page involved etc.

Attendance

Hello.

Can you please either provide the source for, link to the consensus, or explain the rationale for the 0 attendance at for example at Netherlands vs Brazil? I'm assuming this is an "official" (or "paid") attendance figure, but neither link provided mentions the attendance. Furthermore, even if it is properly sourced, we are expecting our readers to just accept it without explanation and ignore the fact they just saw what appeared to be a few hundred people in the seats at that match? --DB1729 (talk) 16:32, 24 July 2021 (UTC)

I might be over-thinking this, but I guess I'm preparing myself for a response if I'm questioned similarly. Is it correct to explain that it refers to paid attendance only? Is this already understood by most readers, or should there be some kind of note somewhere? --DB1729 (talk) 17:31, 24 July 2021 (UTC)

@DB1729: Sorry, I thought I had seen the football tournaments would be entirely behind closed doors. As it turns out, the Miyagi Stadium will in fact be the only venue to allow limited spectators. I have added the sourced attendances with the information now published on the Olympic website. S.A. Julio (talk) 20:12, 24 July 2021 (UTC)
Oh, well that explains it. Thanks a bunch! I thought the same thing. I am watching recorded versions of these events and it's possible I had skipped over any mention of this in the broadcast. --DB1729 (talk) 20:28, 24 July 2021 (UTC)

Hello. You recently changed

Football at the 2020 Summer Olympics – Men's tournament – Final. Can you explain the reason for keeping one of them but not the other? Best regards --Skizziktalk
15:14, 6 August 2021 (UTC)

@Skizzik: I only have had time/interest to focus on the women's tournament, I just noticed a mistake with the men's final referees and therefore made a quick correction. I'll probably nominate the men's final for deletion in a few days. S.A. Julio (talk) 22:41, 6 August 2021 (UTC)
@S.A. Julio: Thanks for the answer. Someone else just deleted the women's final again so I will leave it at that. It seems sensible to nominate the men's final for deletion since most of you who are working in this area seem to think those articles are unnecessary. In the (unlikely) event that the men's final is kept after the nomination, however, I think we should restore the women's final. It feels strange to keep one of them and not the other. Best regards --Skizziktalk 08:49, 7 August 2021 (UTC)

@The Rambling Man: Sorry for the late reply, I've been a bit busy/distracted recently working on some projects. I'm afraid I do not have enough time currently to keep up with a GAN, so it's probably better if someone else were to nominate it. Hi..I was wondering does UEFA have control of qualifying rounds before the World Cup starts? Either way we should find out soon for venue.Tomrtn (talk) 21:18, 25 February 2022 (UTC)

@Tomrtn: UEFA have some control, but ultimately the preliminary competition comes under the auspices of FIFA, hence the UEFA Executive Committee decision does not apply. FIFA will very likely move the match, but for now we should wait until official confirmation. S.A. Julio (talk) 00:28, 26 February 2022 (UTC)

Hello, I know that you're a contributor on football articles and templates. I have a problem with this user, which is continuously removing content from templates: {{Football at the Summer Olympics}}, {{Football at the Pan American Games}}, among others.

If you take a look at his edits, you'll see that his edits are senseless. Moreover, I restored those templates but he reverted my edits and before entering into an edit war, I'd prefer to ask you for advice to solve this situation. Thanks in advance. Fma12 (talk) 18:06, 2 April 2022 (UTC)

Category:Lists of Germany international footballers

Hello. Regarding this edit. I see it was you who had created Category:Lists of Germany international footballers so you would know better than anyone the intended scope. How is anyone else supposed to determine that category's scope excludes lists of women footballers?

I don't really care which way anyone wants to do it. I'm asking because in the future if I'm ever presented with a similar situation, I'm almost certain I would do the same thing and assume the women's list should be included. --DB1729 (talk) 16:57, 9 April 2022 (UTC)

Actually, I see nothing in the German category or its parent that indicates it should be for the men's teams only. In addition to Germany, the Albania, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belgium, Croatia, Czechia, Israel, Malta, Moldova, Netherlands and Norway groups only includes the men's article though a women's article exists, but those for Andorra, England, Estonia, France, Luxembourg, Scotland and Turkey DO include the women's article (only checked Europe). So some consistency needs to be applied in addition to clarification - there is currently a wave of adding a "men's" prefix to football-related content and this is one area where the clarity would be welcome, if indeed these categories were only intended to apply to the men's teams. Crowsus (talk) 17:29, 9 April 2022 (UTC)
@DB1729 and Crowsus: Well, it is a subcategory of Category:Germany international footballers, which will eventually be renamed Category:Germany men's international footballers per the CfD. Therefore, I would think the 'lists' category would eventually be moved to Category:Lists of Germany men's international footballers as well. Otherwise, if both men and women are included it would need to be removed from the men's player category. S.A. Julio (talk) 21:50, 9 April 2022 (UTC)
By "per the CfD" I gather you are referring to this RfC. I remember that discussion now. Although I did not participate, because like I said above, I didn't care which way it was going to cut, nor was I aware of the outcome until now. Sounds like it may take a while before the implementation all shakes out, so I'm fine with leaving it as is and we'll see what happens. Thanks for the explanation. I see no problem in a disambiguation page becoming a proper page if there is enough content to do so. I may have gone too far with some of the stats, but most of it is just re-arranging of information that already exists on Wikipedia. In this way, this page is no different from the likes of European Cup and UEFA Champions League records and statistics. But you chose to delete everything altogether, including an introduction, a comparative table etc., which I don't find a useful contribution. If you feel strongly about some of the content, let's discuss on the discussion page there or at some other appropriate place. Ivan Volodin (talk) 15:17, 17 May 2022 (UTC)
