Jennifer Wilson @ G4 ( Sasuke_(TV_series) ) revert

Good call! Thank you for keeping an American Company from screwing with a JAPANESE COMPETITION article. I admit, I rather guffawed at the audacity of their decision to remove it initially... VxJasonxV (talk) 20:14, 28 March 2008 (UTC)

heh, i got a little chuckle out of it as well. i got addicted to Ninja Warrior on a recent visit overseas where they had G4, unfortunately "G4TechTV" in Canada doesn't carry the show =(.

Haha, I couldn't believe it when I saw that too. For the record, remember this IP -- http://whois.domaintools.com/208.78.120.70 (because G4's parent company, G4 Media, is now under E! True, the person is not a prolific editor -- but when you combine that with the forums cracking down on people for posting spoilers for the 20th SASUKE it looks a bit suspect.Lostinube (talk) 15:05, 29 March 2008 (UTC)

Since you post the info under the heading of "American Ninja Challenge" that is OUR show name. But no matter, as I said it is passed on now and the execs at both companies can work it out.
Xenocidic - I read the disclaimer and it clearly refers to works of fiction which this show is not. But once again, I don't want to argue - I've passed this issue on up the chain.
Canada's G4TechTV is actually not us. They purchase some of our programming but it is not the same company. Sorry I can't help more with that!

(Jennawils (talk) 21:31, 24 April 2008 (UTC))
Yes, in a sense, but you're reading the letter of the law and not the spirit. On the way home from work I was actually pondering your rationale - that your (viewership) numbers would drop - I actually don't think this is the case. I would watch Ninja Warrior (if it aired in Canada) whether or not I knew the outcome - just because it's so damn hilarious. Anyhow, I don't think you'll find that Wikipedia will actively censor or omit the information which is available, as someone mentioned to you on their talk page, Wikipedia is a global entity. Cheers,

Thank you both for your responses. I did not mean to imply a legal BATTLE, just that our legal DEPARTMENT is who handles these discussions if not easily resolved. TBS has helped us quite a bit also on other sites.
We LOVE wikipedia, we also love our job and the American Ninja Challenge. While your logic makes sense - the raw fact is that numbers ALWAYS drop when leaks happen. We can only hope for more viewers like you who will watch regardless. Thank you both for your responses, I don't want to argue or fight, and I will pass on your message to Brian. I think he wants a ANC3 =).
Its tough to accurately explain, but we are cable not a major network. We can't afford to lose money - not even a little. We don't have that freedom and luxury a larger media conglomerate has. I get your point - that the competition aired in Japan already, but most of the world hasn't seen it. G4 makes that possible (my apologies to Canada). Ninja Warrior won't go anywhere, thats not in danger. AMERICAN NINJA CHALLENGE is the special we are trying to protect. And the dividends are definitely figurative thus far =), but yes, we were all THRILLED with the outcome.
I absolutely agree - we need to have an agreement. The COOL thing potentially ... is that we can get accurate info on Sasuke/Ninja Warrior/American Ninja Challenge. Questions such as did Colin go to U of M or Michigan state could be easily answered by us, and more difficult questions regarding sasuke such as budget estimations. We don't want to PREVENT info from being made public, we just would like the release of the results to be better timed.
ps - I am very glad you enjoy the show!! =) (Jennawils (talk) 21:03, 25 April 2008 (UTC))
Hey there, I responded on my talk page also.
We respect and value Wikipedia a lot, all of us use it quite a bit. But the spirit of Wikipedia is not destructive, it is informational. We are not trying to prevent the release of info, but are asking that the release of the info be better timed. Is it possible to work together? We can be a resource for you to maintain accuracy on Sasuke/Ninja Warrior/ANC. We just want the RESULTS of how far G4's American Ninja Challenge guys got to not be released until after the airdate May 18th.
As you can read on my talk page ... while I understand your thought process regarding our viewership - its not accurate. The hard facts are: when results are leaked, we lose viewers. Not ALL viewers but some. And some is too many for a small cable network like G4. We don't have the luxury of a larger network like ABC or CBS to lose viewers and still be ok. Understand that this is our industry and our careers, this concern of ours in not unfounded.
Once again, we love wikipedia and are not trying to prevent info from being available. We would just like to come to an agreement so you can continue to provide accurate thourough info and our show can thrive and grow. (Jennawils (talk) 21:25, 25 April 2008 (UTC))
Well Jen, I just don't think you'll find people are willing to obscure info which exists in the world. As it stands, I'm not working on the Sasuka/ANW article anymore (no access to the show), but thanks for the explanation.

Hello, you seem to be more informed than I am, can you answer this?

Hello Xenocidic,

Can you have a look here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Xbox_360_technical_problems#The_.22contributions.22_of_122.167.31.169

It seems someone is regularily posting from an IP (as opposed to an account) to harass me. I would like to know if it is a sock-puppet for a regular user on the page, is there a way to look-up the IP of a user based on their account?

Any advice? Thanks!

Wageslave (talk) 00:58, 5 April 2008 (UTC)

You can post a complaint about the user here for vandalism or here if you believe that the user is a sock puppet. Also, after every vandalism revert, you can add {{uw-vn|Article}} to his talk page, n being the number of the warning, with a miximum value of 4, and Article being the name of the article (in this case Talk:Xbox 360 technical problems). It will look like this, with each consecutive warning having a slightly harsher tone of writing. StaticGull  Talk  11:08, 5 April 2008 (UTC)
I got your message Xenocidic. Im not overly concerned by it, I have thick skin. Perhaps if (s)he resurfaces, I'll look into it. Thanks for the advice. Wageslave (talk) 20:24, 8 April 2008 (UTC)

I'm sorry about that little thing yesterday. I've been kind of stressed out in RL and the image being deleted and that admin requesting that the lists of funny vandalisms be deleted kind of put me over the top and I overreacted. I am now back and I'm sorry about that. I will try to make a new logo that looks similar to the old one but is not copyrightable. It won't be quite as good, but it's better than nothing. I'll probably have it up sometime this weekend, but I'm not sure exactly when because I do have some stuff going on in RL. Regards. Thingg 23:00, 10 April 2008 (UTC) P.S. ok, it's done. The problem was the "Xbox 360" image's long axis was vertical instead of horizontal so I had to keep tweaking the size and looking at it in "preview" until I got the image to the right size. (When you define an image's size on Wikipedia, the server inserts the value into whatever axis is longer; in this case, it was the vertical axis.) I'm not sure when the new logo will be done, but when it is, I'm going to ask a few knowledgeable users about it before I start putting it in templates. Thingg 20:26, 11 April 2008 (UTC)

Forums *can be* acceptable sources: "Self-published and questionable sources may be used as sources in articles about themselves"
Since the post was made by a member of IW, then it is reliable. It is naive to think that you'll find a source in a major publication stating that it was based on Quake 3. They admit it right there that for PR reasons they simply call it "new" even though there is a slight relation to Quake 3! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 92fs (talkcontribs) 15:11, 15 April 2008 (UTC)

I truly hope this minor dispute will not discourage you from editing Wikipedia in the future. If you look on the back of the CoD4 box, and the CoD2 box, you can read:
"This product contains software technology licensed from id software".
That is official proof (can be used as an official confirmation to what was already admitted by the developers on a community forum) that the game contains tech from the ID Tech 3 engine.
Here's a publication I found shortly thereafter, BTW:
http://www.quakeunity.com/article=3
"He was very courteous, offering us drinks in the id kitchen and even gave me a t-shirt and CoD2, after I told him I wasn't going to buy the game since it didn't use an id engine. After I said that, he explained to me that even though Infinity Ward promoted CoD2 as using a new engine, much of code in in the game was from previous engines made by id. If you look closely at the bottom of CoD2 box, you will see a id Software copyright notice."
Surely the word of the game box itself and that of a person from ID Software is finally enough?
92fs (talk) 15:55, 15 April 2008 (UTC)
I don't think the quakeunity thing would qualify either, but what I'll do is refactor this entire discussion onto the COD2 talk page for a third-opinon, ok? Cheers.

Aye, I meant just in a subpage or something, but we can cross that bridge when we come to it. And I still think Thingg will make it through, the opposition doesn't really have a strong position for consensus not to be reached.

My worry for Thinggs RfA is that we have 13 oppose !votes already. With 6 days left to run, I fear what number the opposes' will reach, the way things are going... But we can hope that he does pass this time. TheProf - T / C 18:12, 21 April 2008 (UTC)

True, but that's a lot of time for more supporters to show up as well. I hope my comment will have some positive effect.

I'd best point you in the direction of Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/Cobi 3. Cobi has proven that he has the best interests of Wikipedia at heart by creating the vandal fighting ClueBot. That in his favour, and 129 supports, but he still failed. Fair enough, he had 48 oppose. But i think you see now, thats the main reason I'm cautious about RfA results. TheProf - T / C 18:28, 21 April 2008 (UTC)
Interesting. Last night I was trying to gain some insight into how the whole process worked. From what I understand, a bureaucrat can make the determination of consensus not reached even when the supports outweight the opposes, but only if the opposes are very convincing. I'm hoping that they do not find the (imo weak) opposition reasons outweigh Thingg's positive service record. But only time will tell...

) 18:35, 21 April 2008 (UTC)
I totally agree, the opposes in Thinggs are weak, number two especially! As you said, time tells all :-) TheProf - T / C 18:43, 21 April 2008 (UTC)

IP voting

Are IPs allowed to cast support votes? I ask because of this. Thanks

talk
) 12:25, 21 April 2008 (UTC)

Sorry for taking so long to reply, I just woke up. But, no, a user must be registered to !vote at an RFA. But they are allowed to comment. That's why User:TheProf07 indented the comment. Personally I would've either made the comment small as well, or moved it into the comments section. The closing bureaucrat will know it's an IP comment and not take it into consideration as a !vote. Useight (talk) 15:37, 21 April 2008 (UTC)
k Thanks. I wasn't sure if the (!) was intended to stand for a negative (I.e. IP's are not allowed to negatively vote).
talk
) 15:41, 21 April 2008 (UTC)
Sorry about the confusion there. Many editors use "!vote" instead of "vote" because the exclamation point often means "not". For example, the term "!=" can be construed as "not equal", this is sometimes used in math and computer programming (as is "<>", which can also mean "not equal"). So by using "!vote", we're implying that it's not supposed to be a vote, but it pretty much is. So, it doesn't imply a positive or negative comment, it's just another idiosyncracy of Wikipedia. Useight (talk) 15:46, 21 April 2008 (UTC)
I understand now. Thanks =)

Hello and Request

Hello again. I have been making edits in the area of Video Games and technology recently. And, I have been attempting to include well-sourced items to some articles that I feel need work.

This work has drawn the attention of some editors who disagree. Can you review some of this material and provide insight. Thank-you.

I only had time to briefly review the information wageslave, and being a newer Wikipedian, I'm going to refrain from commenting on your edits. But for my part, being a self-professed "Xbox 360 Fanboy", I try to stay away from "the competition's" articles, unless it's for vandalism reversion, or the work I did with

That is wisdom I probably need to internalize. I tend to be a contrarian by nature, and I've found that there are POV problems with these articles. The articles that some editors want to be neg-POV are this way, and same method is used to assure other articles are given pos-POV.
I'm also not a well-experienced editor, but I'm fast loosing faith in Wikipedia.
It seems that the bar is set incredibly high for inclusion of anything critical in some articles, but the same bar is virtually subterranean for other articles. Double-standards and lack of universal standards. That kind of thing is being enforced by a dominant cabal who takes "ownership" of articles.
I'm incredibly frustrated. It seems that the best way to maintain that is to intimidate, threaten, attack and frustrate.
I'm really just learning about the "culture" here on Wikipedia, and I've become saddened by what I presumed would have been a community more interested in neutral-POV, instead, the articles are maintained with distinct POV.

There are probably tons of butterfly images already on Wikipedia, but I do not know how to review them. Since I teach students to observe rather than (mindlessly) collect butterflies, I would prefer to leave the butterfly net out of the userbox. Due to the small size of the image, a stylized bright blue or yellow butterfly on a mildly contrasting background would help to get the message across. Many thanks again for your help, and for your appreciation. I have no merit: those guys are really nice, and that's one of the airfields I do love, not only because Delta Jets are wonderful people and extraordinary machines. In fact, I hesitated to do more, for fears it would have looked like blatant advertising.
If you are interested in planes, you should try to catch this G-PSST and the guy under the helmet, Jonathon Whaley, and check there (in particular initial artwork, color scheme, final artwork) what this team achieved. I've seen this J-4104 about 6 months before she left Mollis Base, abandonned on the apron, with the Schweizer Luftwaffe wondering what they'd do with their Hawker Hunters (very few have survived).
Given her striking scheme and the fact that Whaley flies from Edinburgh to Swansea and Ramsgate at every airshow he can go to, would not “Miss Demeanour” be worth an article on its own? ✓ Kanġi Oĥanko (talk) 01:34, 29 April 2008 (UTC)
Er… As many journalists, I do not read the papers! I can't tell you how many articles have been published about this plane — most of them have been local coverage and I cannot quote my own papers, according to the guidelines and honesty. But you're right. I'm not sure that the number of pilots or of simple airshow attendants can be taken into account as 'general notability'. I'd forget about it.
