Hey Deep, I am writing you to let you know that the Mathematics Collaboration of the week(soon to "of the month") is getting an overhaul of sorts and I would encourage you to participate in whatever way you can, i.e. nominate an article, contribute to an article, or sign up to be part of the project. Hi deeptrivia, I finally have some time to start doing a major revision of the page (recall your comments), which I had originally planned to do much earlier (after the RfC in March). I hope you'll have some time to look in every now and then and offer criticism, or if you have more time, help with the revision itself. Thanks. Regards, Fowler&fowler«Talk» 01:21, 17 May 2007 (UTC)
Converts
Please read this. Arrow740 03:44, 21 May 2007 (UTC)
- The verb "to convert" has two uses. The first is intransitive, and that is how it was used in Buddhism and Hinduism. In this sense it means to change one's own religion. The other sense is transitive, and then it means to induce someone else to change his religion. In this sense, it is a synonym for the verb "to proselytize." In Indian English the verb "to proselytize" is basically obsolete and it has been replaced with "to convert" in the transitive sense {{fact}]. However in standard English "convert" is almost always used in the first sense [citation needed]. In that sense there can be no objection; Ashoka converted to Buddhism after experiencing sadness after a battle[citation needed], Guru Angad Dev converted[citation needed] to Sikhism after hearing sermons of Guru Nanak, etc. In fact all the Dharmic religions were at some point in their history proselytizing religions[citation needed]. Buddhism still is[citation needed]. That's why[citation needed] Buddhism is spreading among non-Asians in the West. However this aspect of Buddhism is not nearly as pronounced as in Christianity and Islam. Hinduism was once a very active proselytizing religion[citation needed], though Hindus were mostly interested in converting other Indians. At one time, most of India was Buddhist (because of Buddhist monks spreading the message and convincing people to convert[citation needed]). It was partially due to the work of Hindu proselytizers such as Adi Shankara (but mostly due to the Muslim hordes) that Buddhism almost completely died out in India. Arrow740 05:17, 21 May 2007 (UTC)
- Also, note that the Dalai Lama is only the leader of one sect[citation needed] of Tibetan Buddhists. Arrow740 05:24, 21 May 2007 (UTC)

Map
My idea is to show all of Ladakh highlighted in semi-transparent light red or reddish-orange. Indian-administered Ladakh would then be shaded as it is now (semi-transparent dark red). If we did this, then the article would need to be NPOVed by stating both in the lead and infobox that Ladakh is divided between the PRC and India. The infobox would have a "Countries" field (like in {{Geobox River}} or {{Geobox Mountain Range}}; see Ganges or Andes for examples) that lists both India and the PRC. To make sure about this, Nichalp and Planemad should be consulted, since they are more familiar with this sort of stuff. Thanks. Saravask 05:22, 8 June 2007 (UTC)

Why have you changed Pakistani to Indian politician in this article? He was born in Karachi and died in Karachi. I can put it as Indo-Pak politican. Shinas 14:08, 17 June 2007 (UTC)
I, with no doubt, reverted your edits. Please clearly read the original text of the Simla document:
“ | The notes exchanged are to the following effect:
1. It is understood by the High Contracting Parties that Tibet forms part of Chinese territory. 2. After the selection and installation of the Dalai Lama by the Tibetan Government, the latter will notify the installation to the Chinese Government whose representative at Lhasa will then formally communicate to His Holiness the titles consistent with his dignity, which have been conferred by the Chinese Government.... |
” |
As cross-examination, I would like to tell you M.C. Goldstein's History of Modern Tibet, like it or not Deeptrivia, also mentions the Appendix on page 75:
“ | In addition to the Convention section, "Notes" contained important items. For example, it was understood that Tibet would form a part of China... | ” |
FYI, both Lochen Shatra and "GOI" representative signed the Note Exchange. - 219.79.120.208 09:58, 18 June 2007 (UTC)
- This is also what it says: "The Government of China engages not to convert Tibet into a Chinese province." deeptrivia (talk) 17:43, 18 June 2007 (UTC)
Um...I raise no question on adding that. Successive Chinese governments factually have zero interest in transforming Tibet into a province, as of 2007 Tibet is still a Chinese region instead of a province. :) - 219.79.120.208 10:51, 19 June 2007 (UTC)

Deeptrivia, I wanted to clarify that I initiated the definitional discussion on the Hinduism talk page, not because I though your edit was "wrong", but rather because I though that it raised a substantiative issue that perhaps we need to establish consensus over. In fact with hindsight, I think I should have started the discussion before I reverted your version, rather than after. Though I'd drop you a line to explain my thinking. Regards. Seeking opinion from regular editors on reference pattern
References:
Opinion is sought from regular editors of the article Hinduism regarding the splitting of Notes and references section. This is a short gist of the discussions going on in the above mentioned talk links: Having a separate "Notes" (for explanatory remarks) and "Citations" (for direct citations), although permitted, is relatively rare in Wikipedia, and also in academic journals. The main rationale behind doing this is to distinguish a series of explanatory remarks from the series of citations (please see Rabindranath Tagore, Demosthenes for examples).
This sandbox gives a glimpse of how the article would look if we split the sections (the sandbox is under work, so may not be perfect). This link shows how the article looks with combined section. This may give an idea how it looked when I started working on references. I converted many references to Harvard format, apart from splitting the sections.
Opinion for regular editors are sought regarding the application of splitting of two section for this article. Please do so in Talk:Hinduism in the section Talk:Hinduism#Seeking_opinion_from_regular_editors_on_reference_pattern. Regards.--Dwaipayan (talk) 05:02, 22 July 2007 (UTC)

Deeptrivia,
I came across the question you had posed at the Math ref. desk. While I don't have a direct answer for why the computation of is so numerically sensitive (although I suspect it has to do with the ill-conditioning of A), I was intrigued by an even more basic problem: Why does matlab find rank(A) = 6, while clearly it should be ≤5, since the fourth and fifth columns of the matrix are identical ?
Aside: Do you have the singular values of A handy ? Abecedare 07:02, 8 September 2007 (UTC)

Indo greek page
Deeptrivia,
It is truly unfortunate that someone who spends as much time on the indian articles as you do is enabling PHG's systematic biasing of indian articles. He claims every indian accomplishment and dynasty under the sun as products of the greeks (chalukyas = seleucids, sikander al sani on khilji's coins = greek coinage influence? come on). Worst of all, he is stomping out dissent on the various perspetives on the indo greek period. To him, nothing less than the entire northern half of the subcontinent must have been ruled by the indo greeks--a preposterous notion considering there is no archaeological evidence to substantiate that. in fact, even european scholars (see talk page "End of the road for the Indo Greeks" acknowledge that it is foolish to proclaim colonial theories as writ without hard evidence coming to the fore. If you are going to involve yourself into the debate, at least have the decency to address the legitimate questions raised by those who actually want objective history in these articles.

In recent past Internet and e-mail have revolutionized the world of communications. But those who do not have easy access to Internet and e-mail facilities could not get benefits of this facility. In its endeavour to make the benefits of e-mail available to a common man, Al Tayyeb Group has introduced i-post service. By i-post all those who do not have computer or do not have access to Internet can send e-mail by Post Office or receive e-mail through a postman. Image source problem with Image:Pashupati.gif
Thanks for uploading Image:Pashupati.gif. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on

WikiDharma
Hi!
I didn't realise this project existed!
I had the idea to set up a WikiDharma.org. That actual domain name is held by a domain farmer but I have bought and parked related names. I don't want to reinvent the [Dharma] Wheel or throw away work that has already been done.
What I have done to date is create an outline of the type of content that I think would be useful for a WikiDharma. A full project plan for WikiDharma is here: http://herdingkatsu.blogspot.com/
Maybe there is some food for thought in there or maybe not.

RBI
Well, you know how the Americans think they're the only ones alive on this planet, so most of the things online, go according to their whims and fancies.
So, I thought, let's be a bit fair.
RBI, redirects to Run Batted In, which as we all know is a baseball term, and baseball is an American sport.
Sometime back, a vote was held to redirect it to the disambig page. Someone said, English is NOT a primary language of India, and hence there should be preference to non-Indian artices.
The Americans voted and made the article redirect to Run Batted In, so I feel, we should all have another vote.
So, please vote, on whether you support or oppose the redirect to RBI (disambiguation) rather than Run batted in.
The earlier debate can be found at Talk:RBI (disambiguation).
The new poll can be found at Talk:RBI

Hi Deeptrivia,
My name is Patricia. I'm working with the Wikimedia Foundation this summer to learn about the histories of different Wikipedias. You can read about the project here. You probably don't know this, but you were one of the first users to register on Hindi Wikipedia and one of the most active of those early users. Any chance you'd be willing to talk with me about your experiences editing? I'm especially interested in what you feel like are the differences between the Hindi and English Wikipedias. I'm sure seeing Hindi Wikipedia grow, even though it seems you're doing most of your editing here, you've got some great insight!
