Hello, and

William Barr (Arctic historian) article, but for legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted
text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted.

Feel free to re-submit a new version of the article. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words.

If the external website belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must include on the external site the statement "I, (name), am the author of this article, (article name), and I release its content under the terms of the GNU Free Documentation License, Version 1.2 and later."

You might want to look at Wikipedia's policies and guidelines for more details, or ask a question here. You can also leave a message on my talk page.

(Sir) John Franklin

You moved "John Franklin" to "Sir John Franklin"; I moved it back. It's not normal here to put titles within article names; thus for example Laurence Olivier rather than "Sir Laurence Olivier".

If you have some particular reason for the rename, please let me know, and let's discuss it before any further renaming. Thanks. -- Hoary 14:07, 16 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

If you created this media file and want to use it on Wikipedia, you may re-upload it (or amend the image description if it has not yet been deleted) and use the license {{

If you did not create this media file but want to use it on Wikipedia, there are two ways to proceed. First, you may choose one of the fair use tags from this list if you believe one of those fair use rationales applies to this file. Second, you may want to contact the copyright holder and request that they make the media available under a free license.

Comparison of the Amundsen and Scott Expeditions

Hi there! You keep adding the following paragraph to the lead of the article:

It should however be noted that all in all the Norwegian party was better suited and prepared for the quest, and that the British party managed to reach the South Pole was a bit of shear luck and that they eventually all died on their return to base camp was a consequence of improper planing and preparations.

This is a synthesis of original research, 'quest' doesn't need a link, 'South Pole' is already linked earlier, there are typos (shear vs. sheer, planing vs. planning), and the grammar needs some work. Can I ask why you keep adding it back in? NekoKatsun (talk) 18:34, 28 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Let go of the typos, the facts are real. --Eivindgh (talk) 18:36, 28 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
This is still desperately in need of a source, though. That's my main concern. Typos are easy to fix, but when they're part of a paragraph that needs verification, they - and the paragraph - should just be removed. For what it's worth, I agree with you that the Norwegians were better prepared, but we can't just put that in as a fact without citing a source. NekoKatsun (talk) 18:41, 28 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, you've added it back in, with a nonexistent source. In the interest of avoiding an edit war, I have submitted a request for a third opinion. NekoKatsun (talk) 19:01, 28 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I can give you the very source, which is a physical (real indeed) book. Amazon

Third Opinion

In my opinion, the statement that it was sheer luck that the British party reached the Pole at all, in Wikipedia's voice, is clearly

original research. Even with a proper source, such a statement should be directly quoted. Please make a request on the article talk page to delete that sentence. Robert McClenon (talk) 19:18, 28 July 2015 (UTC)[reply

Proposed deletion of
History of electoral college by US states

The article

History of electoral college by US states has been proposed for deletion
because of the following concern:

Unwieldy and essentially non-functional experiment at indexing. Consists of nothing but a list of states on one axis and a list of presidential elections on the other, with nothing really to do with the history of the electoral college whatsoever.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be

deleted for any of several reasons
.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Bergen Line, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Scenic. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

A tag has been placed on John Orrell (English landowner) requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a real person or group of people, but it does not credibly indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. The Barnstar of Original Research

I haven't come up with a logo just yet, but you deserve a barnstar for this little bit of original research: [3] You started a section on the longest distances along lines of latitude and longitude. Fortunately, no one noticed this card-carrying WP:OR, and User:Jidanni eventually posted a request in the article for a more general form along any great circle here. That led eventually to User:Muh1974's one and only edit [4] providing the third and best solution for the problem. Which spawned a Reddit thread about it here, and finally, appearing in _Science_ as a news item, with confirmation that the route was correct, here. With a tantalizing suggestion for me (well, someone) to go back and credit the people responsible. Wnt (talk) 03:45, 1 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
