Your reversion of me wasn't a reversion of mistaken good faith edit: it was no mistake. At the time I reverted you, there was no source provided in those articles, your edit summaries, or Boston's article, and no web articles mentioned the death (which is still true. Nor was he listed at dead at Parliament's website (that at least has changed). Even now, the article only has a reference to page 55 today's Times without a title of any kind, and again, it and the mention of his death only appeared after you were reverted. Your edit summary mentions the Daily Telegraph as a source, but it is not included anywhere on Wikipedia. Next time you decide to declare someone dead, be sure to provide a source somewhere, preferably at the subject's article. are you sure you have assigned the MBE title to the correct Robin Williams? In the document you provided as source material it says Robin Williams is a rowing coach. The Robin Williams you edited is a former slalom canoeist. Those are two very different sports and I am not sure these two are one and the same person.

I recently relocated to the country and haven't remembered to update my user page in that respect. Besides, its a joke column, as it shows with the (on Google Maps ;)) bit.I don't view it as my job, I have OCD and get agitated when my routine gets intervened with. Not that by adding a note of his death was in any way wrong from a Wikipedia perspective - it's just that MCF Proctor was one of my botany lecturers at University who, forty years ago, inspired me to spend all of my own working life in the field of natural history and especially botany. I was motivated a couple of years back to write to him and tell him about his influence, having just published a county-based Flora which took 18 years of data collecting. Hi Rcb1, I wonder if you could clarify your source that Henry Ropner, of Thorpe Perrow, has been given the title of "Sir"? I may be wrong, but a hereditary title is not a given, but must be proved through The Standing Council of the Baronetage. If you read their section on "Succession to a Baronetcy" it is explained there. Therefore, as the title is still not official on the Standing Council's list, and not wanting Wikipedia to be incorrect in their information, may I suggest you remove the word "Sir" or Henry altogether. @Rcb1: It may interest you to know that there's a standardized template for post-nominal letters. Take a look at Template:Post-nominals. If you do more edits like your recent additions of DL and OBE in several articles, the template is likely to make your job easier, because you don't have to spell out the honors. The standard template automatically provides the correct wikilink, and makes the post-nominal letters smaller. So, for example, if you type

To suggest that my edits were disruptive, presumably because they have no reference, is preposterous when dozens of similar entries on each of the pages are similarly formatted. So, if you delete these entries of myself, you are therefore yourself disrupting and damaging Wikipedia by failing to delete the similar entries on the births pages. First, there are verifiable sources in each of the articles on the underlying subject, to which I provide the link on each and every one of the articles I add. Second, not just the years I have edited but every year from at least 1500 to 1950 has an essentially identical page, in which the references are provided in the same way. I am explicitly mindful of the way that pages are formatted in every page I edit and strive to be consistent. Therefore I would assuredly add references on the page if they were provided for the thousands and thousands of other similar entries. They are not. To single out the few hundred edits I have made from the many tens of thousands of essentially identical edits is bizarre and itself disruptive. I contend that it you who is damaging Wikipedia by deleting bona-fide entries which enhance the pages seemingly randomly. To this once is unfortunate: to do it a second time when I have explained what I am doing is what Lady Bracknell would have called "careless." It is hard to avoid the sense that this has become a fixation, if not a vendetta. The allegation claims that I added "unreferenced or inappropriate content." Inappropriate is plainly absurd, as what I was doing was adding in "Deaths" an entry which already existed in "Births", so that the two corresponded. If it were inappropriate, it would never have been added to "Births" or would have been quickly deleted. Unreferenced is true - but not a single other entry in that month was referenced, nor was the corresponding entry in "Births". While - in more than 60,000 edits, as a matter of course I add references where appropriate, I contend that to add a reference to that one unique entry would merely set a precedent which would create wholly unnecessary work for other editors. The entry in Births had no reference either.

Worse, prior to being blocked today, I had a bad-tempered exchange with Deb, the administrator. In response to a polite request only to revert part of the edit, if she felt she must, she sent me a silly, sarcastic and rude reply. I then made bad-tempered observation in adding the (unnecessary) reference to the edit she reverted. It seems plain that she took the action that she did in response to that. I contend that this is an abuse of her privileges as an administrator. Such behaviour is seriously detrimental to people editing Wikipedia in good faith and you should ask your yourselves if someone who behaves in such a vindictive way is a fit an proper person to be an administrator.

As it happens, I will be busy tomorrow, so I have no great concern about this temporary block. But I take grave exception to Deb's behaviour, which brings Wikipedia into disrepute for the reasons I have explained. Please ensure that this extremely unsatisfactory and unsavoury episode does not happen again - to me or to anyone else.

Your "polite request" was If you really must persist in the habit of deleting any entry without an reference - itself a dubiously useful practice when almsot almost no other similar entries in that section (or births) has a reference - at least please did not just lazily revert the other edits made at the same time, as you did with the birth date of Lloyd Gaines. Deb's reply precisely mirrored your own language: If you really must persist in the habit of creating new entries without the reference required by the guidelines, after being told previously not to do it, at least don't just lazily make other entries at the same time, as it causes additional work for others. The point I was trying to make, which I perhaps I didn't explain very well, is that I don't see the need to reinstate the deaths, as it links to a page which lists the deaths by date: but the births simply link to a category, which has an alphabetical list of births but not the specific dates. That seems to be useful information, which needs to be listed somewhere - and this is obvious place to put it, unless someone starts a "Births in 2001". page.
