Mr. SAMUEL ETOO HAS BEEN WINNER OF THE COMPETITION WITH 3 CLUBS: REAL MADRID, BARCELONA (2 TIMES) AND INTERNAZIONALE. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2804:D49:448A:B100:89B5:603B:9D6F:FCE (talk) 22:20, 14 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Cavani

Hello @Mediocre Legacy:, should we put Cavani in the list of those who lost two consecutive European finals? Regardless of his participation because the final loss with Paris was recorded in his own records, what do you think? --Mishary94 (talk) 10:39, 27 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I think this is a tough one to determine, which is why I changed the article to specifically mention players who "played" in both finals. However, if you were to only mention those who "lost" consecutive European titles, then I would still consider Cavani, seeing as he still played in PSG's Champions League campaign (even though he didn't play in the final). Mediocre Legacy (talk) 18:52, 27 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Mediocre Legacy: I think that the criterion in this article for us to say that a player won the title is to participate in any match of the tournament regardless of his participation in the final, so, what do you think that we put Cavani on the list with a note about not participating in the final? --Mishary94 (talk) 00:12, 28 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

June 2021

Hello @Baronedimare:, you can see the information that mentions those who scored four and five goals, it is also very large, this article is for records and statistics and it is no wonder that it is many and large, with your permission, I retrieved --Mishary94 (talk) 12:18, 7 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Moldova

FC Sheriff Tiraspol from Moldova qualified for the UEFA Champions League group stage today. Should the map be updated already or only when they played their first group game? 77.64.245.49 (talk) 22:18, 25 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Errors and debatable criteria of the individual award winners

Right now Isco appears as the winner of five tournaments, despite not having played any game in the 21-22 Champions League, even having been part of the Real Madrid squad all season. Likewise, Samuel Eto'o does not appear as the winner of the 99-00 Champions League despite having played three games in the group stage, having left the Real Madrid squad in the winter market (this would make him appear in the statistics as winner of champions with three different teams). Finally, Juan Santisteban appears as the winner of five tournaments, despite having spent the season 55-56 in the academy teams, and not making his debut with the Real Madrid first team until October 1956. Pinopuente (talk) 13:59, 1 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I don't see a problem with including Isco as a five-time winner, since he was registered for the entire competition (see here). The reason Eto'o isn't listed as having won the 1999-2000 Champions League is because reliable sources don't include him as a player who has won the competition with 3+ teams; he wasn't with Real Madrid when they won it, so how can he be said to have won it with them? I have no comment on Santisteban. – PeeJay 17:32, 1 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

It's okay. I edit about Santisteban. The same official website of Real Madrid cites him as the winner of four European Cups (https://www.realmadrid.com/sobre-el-real-madrid/el-club/historia/jugadores-de-leyenda-futbol/juan -santisteban-trojan) Pinopuente (talk) 18:35, 1 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Champions League winning players.

Several months ago, a Wikipedia article about Champions League winning players was deleted. Can we put names of the winning players on CL records and statistics article or can we somehow re-create the article in Wikipedia? (Same thing with Europa League). Yes please, I don't know why that page was deleted but it was very useful. 89.129.121.207 (talk) 14:26, 14 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Domestic League Title

“Twenty clubs have qualified for the UEFA Champions League group stage despite having never won a domestic league title:

1899 Hoffenheim, Bayer Leverkusen, Eintracht Frankfurt, Hertha BSC, RB Leipzig, Schalke 04, Union Berlin”

7 times domestic league winner Schalke qualified 1958/59 as German league winner for the European Cup, Eintracht Frankfurt qualified 1959/1960 as German league winner. Hertha BSC won the German league twice, however before European Cups were invented (1930, 1931). 5.90.119.175 (talk) 19:28, 29 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I think it's down to German specific football back then: they were champions of the country, but it wasn't domestic league - it was like a championship tournament, with two groups and a final. Red Devil (talk) 20:51, 29 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Fair point. However, no one in Germany considers the domestic champions pre Bundesliga 1964 (where from 5 regional leagues the final champion was determined in knock-outs) cup winners rather than league winners. 5.90.119.175 (talk) 21:46, 29 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Assist

Hello everyone, Opta recently published a report on the most assisted players in the Champions League since the start of its new edition in 1992. Opta clearly explains the definition of assist, as it does not consider those who cause penalty kicks, deflected shots, or rebounds from the opponent as “assists,” and we find a big change in the ranking of players, where Ryan Giggs occupies the lead, and I think it is logical, especially since UEFA’s statistics began in 2003. Also, UEFA does not know everyone what the true assist standard is, as it counts rebounds as an assist. For example, see Inigo Martinez’s own goal here, it was counted as an assist for Wayne Rooney, which will cause controversy over the assist criteria. I will change the player rankings according to Opta's ranking for the following reasons:

1- Opta’s statistics started in 1992 (unlike UEFA, which started in 2003), which makes it more transparent. 2- UEFA statistics include preliminary rounds, unlike Opta 3- Most importantly, Opta has clear standards in defining “assist,” unlike UEFA

If there is objection, please discuss here. --Mishary94 (talk) 18:24, 5 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
