A barnstar for you!

The Tireless Contributor Barnstar
This is the first barnstar I've given, and barnstars seem to be going a bit out of fashion, but I just feel compelled to give it because I've been running into your edits all over the place. It's especially impressive that you've only had an account for 8 months and made so many improvements to the wiki.

Please assist me in creating a page akin to these similar pages

Can you explain how my draft for Same Same But Different Festival differs significantly and or substantially, other than its legacy (or lack thereof), from Stagecoach Festival (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stagecoach_Festival) or Lightning in a Bottle Festival (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lightning_in_a_Bottle)

Other than the robustness of available references which are admittedly few for this newer festival, it seems to me to be fundamentally similar enough to warrant fairer consideration.

Thank you for your time and effort. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2402:800:4170:a10a:b59a:491d:99c0:2e91 (talk) 05:14, 19 May 2019 (UTC)

Empty TPE requests

If there's an empty request, like at

Template talk:AFC submission, it's OK to remove it. I usually leave an edit summary of "rm empty request". Some mark it nd, as you did, and some remove it. It seems to be one of the few situations where it's OK to remove someone's edits from a talk page. Hope that helps, Cabayi (talk
) 06:47, 19 May 2019 (UTC)

@Cabayi: Thanks for letting me know. Hopefully @Suffusion of Yellow sets 987 (hist · log) to disallow or warn soon, that should reduce the number of empty requests. --DannyS712 (talk) 06:51, 19 May 2019 (UTC)
Nice. I do like fixes that prevent mistakes rather than forcing us to correct and unintentionally belittle novices and mistake-makers. I'm still unreasonably chuffed with how well this fix has worked. Cabayi (talk) 08:44, 19 May 2019 (UTC)
@Cabayi: Yeah, that's also what I prefer to explain that the edit request was unclear, rather than just remove it --DannyS712 (talk) 08:47, 19 May 2019 (UTC)

Draft:2019 Johan Cruyff Shield

Please review this article soon. Thanks. – Flix11 (talk) 09:55, 20 May 2019 (UTC)

(talk page stalker) Flix11, "The 2018 Johan Cruyff Shield will be...". Really? Cabayi (talk) 10:57, 20 May 2019 (UTC)
@Cabayi: Yes, my bad. Thank you for pointing out. – Flix11 (talk) 12:01, 20 May 2019 (UTC)
@Flix11: There is still very little prose in the draft, and its a subject I'm not very familiar with, so at this point I'm not comfortable accepting the draft. But, another reviewer should take a look at it --DannyS712 (talk) 15:59, 20 May 2019 (UTC)
@DannyS712: The previous edition is also that short, aside of the stats since the 2019 match is yet to be done. – Flix11 (talk) 17:09, 20 May 2019 (UTC)

Template:Editnotices/Page/Rudeness

Hi DannyS712. My interest having been piqued by this VPT discussion, I decided to check out list of templates which transclude Template:Parenthetical referencing editnotice. The first one in the list is Template:Editnotices/Page/Rudeness. However, as far as I can tell, Rudeness does not use parenthetical referencing. On that basis, would it be appropriate for me to nominate Template:Editnotices/Page/Rudeness for deletion? Thanks. DH85868993 (talk) 06:22, 21 May 2019 (UTC)

The same templates are used for Harvard references and parenthetical references, because they are just different formats of the inline citation with the same principle of not using ref tags and defining the references separately --DannyS712 (talk) 06:24, 21 May 2019 (UTC)
Cool. Thanks for the explanation. DH85868993 (talk) 06:26, 21 May 2019 (UTC)

Your offer

to create those Template:Parenthetical referencing editnotice/editnotices for me is muchly appreciated especially because - duh on me! - I didn't realize I'm not a template editor. I don't really have a List right now but I might be pestering you from time to time to create these for articles I come across that are riddled with Harvard cite errors and warnings. Frankly, most of the articles that use Harvard cites are riddled with errors...if not for "importScript('User:Ucucha/HarvErrors.js');" on my common.js page I guess I wouldn't be able to fix them because I'd never even see them. Shearonink (talk) 19:07, 21 May 2019 (UTC)

Bot tasks

I don't want to step on your toes, but please update

under the correct name for the bot. Please also make sure bot requests are filed under the bot name that will be doing the job. Primefac (talk
) 16:06, 23 May 2019 (UTC)

@Primefac: what specifically are you referring to? All tasks so far have been done by DannyS712 bot, except for the one listed as bot II. In the future, I'll make sure to file other tasks properly. When other tasks are sent to trial I update accordingly... Thanks, --DannyS712 (talk) 16:09, 23 May 2019 (UTC)
I guess I meant listing it in a separate section as "bot II tasks" or similar; it's not technically Task 13 of "Bot I" any more. Primefac (talk) 19:11, 23 May 2019 (UTC)
@Primefac: I was numbering them for myself, since I don't want multiple task 13s, even with different bots. Is not the "account: DannyS712 bot II" enough? --DannyS712 (talk) 19:37, 23 May 2019 (UTC)
You're welcome to do whatever you please; I was just letting you know that DannyS712 bot 13 doesn't exist and
DannyS712 bot II 42 I suppose you're welcome to do so, as I'm not aware of any "rules" regarding the numbering of tasks. But, it will have to be filed under bot II (and similarly for bot III). Primefac (talk
) 20:03, 23 May 2019 (UTC)
@Primefac: okay. Is it okay to create redirects for such tasks? --DannyS712 (talk) 20:05, 23 May 2019 (UTC)
Sure, I've created things like
User:PrimeBOT/24 so that my links are shorter. Primefac (talk
) 20:06, 23 May 2019 (UTC)
@Primefac: no I meant like redirecting ...bot 50 to ..bot II 2 --DannyS712 (talk) 20:08, 23 May 2019 (UTC)
See Wikipedia:Bots/Noticeboard#Naming_conventions. Primefac (talk) 20:20, 23 May 2019 (UTC)

I'm not sure about the protocol for this situation, but Baker was an alumni of both Harvard Law School and Harvard University, as distinct from the law school. Perhaps we need a separate category specifically for Harvard undergraduate alumni, but lacking that, it seems incorrect to omit him from the supercategory. bd2412 T 23:10, 23 May 2019 (UTC)

@BD2412: well, the category is tagged as overpopulated, and so I was removing pages that are in subcategories. If he also attended harvard college, then you can add Category:Harvard College alumni --DannyS712 (talk) 23:13, 23 May 2019 (UTC)
Oh, of course - thanks. bd2412 T 00:05, 24 May 2019 (UTC)

Mass nomination

Hey Danny, do you happen to have a bot to mass nominate templates for deletion? --Gonnym (talk) 21:10, 26 May 2019 (UTC)

@Gonnym: I have one for CfDs, but I should be able to adapt it for TfDs with trivial ease - why? What are you trying to nominate? --DannyS712 (talk) 21:11, 26 May 2019 (UTC)
I want to nominate all the templates in Category:Fs team templates Russia as these templates are just wrappers used instead of a simple link and from the 30 I spot checked, they are all red links. --Gonnym (talk) 21:13, 26 May 2019 (UTC)
@Gonnym: For those 200 pages I can do an awb run... let me know if you want me to, and if so what content you want added (i.e. what the tfd template should say) --DannyS712 (talk) 21:14, 26 May 2019 (UTC)
Thank you, I appreciate that. The comment: "A set of Russian futsal club templates which are just wrappers for simple links. A lot (most maybe) of the links are red links. The templates should be deleted and usages should be replaced with a direct link to the team article." --Gonnym (talk) 21:17, 26 May 2019 (UTC)
@Gonnym: No I mean what is the template I should add to link to the nomination?
{{subst:Template for discussion|heading=HEADING}}
--DannyS712 (talk) 21:19, 26 May 2019 (UTC)
Ah ok, the heading should be "Russian futsal club templates". Do you want me to open the section at TFD now? --Gonnym (talk) 21:21, 26 May 2019 (UTC)
@Gonnym: please, and then can you tag a page or 2 and link to the diffs so I can make sure I'm doing it right? --DannyS712 (talk) 21:28, 26 May 2019 (UTC)

I had a neutral point of view

I made a movie called VIYCE, I wrote an article about it, it was a neutral article, I even told people they could edit it for neutrality, but you removed it regardless. How can I write an article for my movie, VIYCE? Nicoli102 (talk) 23:01, 28 May 2019 (UTC)

@Nicoli102: Can you add a link to where you wrote it? --DannyS712 (talk) 23:03, 28 May 2019 (UTC)

It was deleted to heck, but here's my old talk page, which proves that the article did at one point exist. I still have the text of the article so I can re-make the article. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:Fraction7 Nicoli102 (talk) 01:48, 30 May 2019 (UTC)

Thanks re. disambiguation plus query

Thanks for pointing out that disambiguation pages should be created after, rather than before a situation arises where one is needed. I'm not sure if you read the message on my talk page regarding the issue I had with my sandbox, which unfortunatley deletion of the disambiguation page has not resolved. If you are able, could you please give me some advice on how to sort this out. Many thanks. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Edwin of Northumbria (talkcontribs) 07:13, 29 May 2019 (UTC)

@Edwin of Northumbria: No problem. Can you explain what the issue of your sandbox is? --DannyS712 (talk) 17:11, 29 May 2019 (UTC)
@Edwin of Northumbria: Based off of what I can find it seems that you want the page undeleted. I have requested that at User talk:Hut 8.5#Request for Undeletion. If I'm incorrect, please let me know. StudiesWorld (talk) 18:28, 29 May 2019 (UTC)
I've moved the deleted page in question back to the user sandbox it was in before it was moved to mainspace. I think that has resolved what the OP is asking for. Hut 8.5 20:31, 29 May 2019 (UTC)

@Matthewishere0: Proving existence isn't enough - it has to be notable, and an AfD concluded that the club wasn't --DannyS712 (talk) 01:39, 31 May 2019 (UTC)
I'm reasonably sure that it would not be notable. However, I'm not sure that G4 because it must be nearly substantially identical. I would recommend replacing it with A7 or PRODing it. StudiesWorld (talk) 01:44, 31 May 2019 (UTC) (corrected: 01:46, 31 May 2019 (UTC))
@StudiesWorld: As a non-admin I can't tell if it is identical, nearly identical, or nothing like it. Given that the page was re-deleted 3 weeks ago for G4, I think its likely that G4 applies, but we'll see --DannyS712 (talk) 01:46, 31 May 2019 (UTC)

WP:NFOOTY. I can also include reliable sources and references to back up the information, so the reason for speedy deletion being just G4 isn't fair for the page. Matthewishere0 (talk

@Matthewishere0: Wgolf tagged it for salting, so they might know more about it than I do - Wgolf? --DannyS712 (talk) 02:22, 31 May 2019 (UTC)
significant coverage of the organization, therefore I think it would fail at AfD for the same notability reasons. It has also been deleted as G4, so presumably the content of the pages remained similar. StudiesWorld (talk
) 10:18, 31 May 2019 (UTC)
I tagged it to be salted since it has been created multiple times recently. Which is basically the only reason why I salted it, I don't know really that much about it-sorry. Wgolf (talk) 02:23, 31 May 2019 (UTC)
@Wgolf: In that case I'll just leave it for an admin, who can actually compare it with the deleted page DannyS712 (talk) 02:25, 31 May 2019 (UTC)

Women in Red

Hi there, DannyS712, and welcome to Women in Red. I must say I'm impressed by how active you have been during the comparatively short time you've been on Wikipedia. I'm pleased to see you are now interested in contributing more biographies of women. In this connection, you might find it useful to look through our Ten Simple Rules. Please let me know if you run into any difficulties or need assistance.--Ipigott (talk) 07:12, 1 June 2019 (UTC)

Hi DannyS712, is it a coincidence that I was inspired by Women in Red (or does Wikipedia track my browsing history now?) to start creating articles for unrecognized top Nigerian women on Wikipedia. I'm doing this in my spare time as a programmer so sorry about terribly incomplete edits. I was in a Wikimedia conference in 2015 in Ethiopia and have wanted to contribute since but I think I'm still to get proper hang of it. Opatachibueze (talk) 07:40, 1 June 2019 (UTC)

DYK for Nancy Pelosi

On 2 June 2019, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Nancy Pelosi, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that Nancy Pelosi (pictured) is the only woman to have served as Speaker of the United States House of Representatives, and the first former Speaker to return to the post since 1955? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Nancy Pelosi. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, Nancy Pelosi), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Null page save bot

Hey Danny, do you happen to have a bot that can do null page saves to the pages transcluding Module:Str endswith, so it can be refreshed? It's supposed to be deleted, but it has 20k "transclusions" still left, which seems to be ghost, but I'd like to make sure. --Gonnym (talk) 19:53, 3 June 2019 (UTC)

@Gonnym: I wanted to have one, but it was denied - see Wikipedia:Bots/Requests for approval/DannyS712 bot 26 --DannyS712 (talk) 19:53, 3 June 2019 (UTC)
Ah, heh. Well. thanks anyways. Some of the editors in that discussion said User:Joe's Null Bot is working now, but it has a message at the top saying it isn't. @Galobtter:, do you know if you can help here and get it to run on this module? --Gonnym (talk) 20:00, 3 June 2019 (UTC)
@Gonnym: Joe's Null Bot isn't related here; its task is to purge pages that need to be regularly purged because they are in categories that change based on time, not to perform one-time bot runs. In any case, part of the reason Danny's bot was denied was lack of a demonstrated need (Category:Pages with graphs and Category:Pages with maps eventually emptied by jobqueue), and we now have two cases (Module:Str endswith and Module:Find sources/links/highbeam, which I nominated for deletion) in which a "null-edit all pages transcluding this one" bot would be helpful. * Pppery * it has begun... 23:34, 3 June 2019 (UTC)
@Pppery: I'll try to figure out using touch.py, and hopefully file a new one soon DannyS712 (talk) 00:05, 4 June 2019 (UTC)
... except for the fact that the number of transclusions of Module:Str endswith appears to have mysteriously dropped to zero ... * Pppery * it has begun... 00:13, 7 June 2019 (UTC)
@Pppery: hmm, nevermind DannyS712 (talk) 01:03, 7 June 2019 (UTC)

Hey

I realize you're using a script, but is there no way you can check whose page you're leaving those messages on? DS (talk) 20:01, 3 June 2019 (UTC)

@DragonflySixtyseven: Sorry, but I don't think there is without checking the page creator each time. But, {{bots}} might have a trick for it. Maybe Amorymeltzer might know? DannyS712 (talk) 20:09, 3 June 2019 (UTC)
No, nothing does that for Twinkle, not yet anyway. I've got something on the backburner to try and deal with this, so hopefully down the line, but until then no. In the end, though, you're responsible for everything you do with Twinkle, and I'd never consider nominating something without seeing who the creator is first. You can turn off notifications for R4 tags if you like, but either way, if you're going to be doing rapidfire nominations, it's up to you to avoid blindly sending notifications to the same user. ~ Amory (utc) 21:24, 3 June 2019 (UTC)
@Amorymeltzer: will do, thanks --DannyS712 (talk) 21:25, 3 June 2019 (UTC)
You're such a pro scripter but didn't it occur to you that this problem just demands a simple JS-based solution. Put this in your common.js, doesn't work perfectly of course, being written in 5 mins, but does the work:
$('input[value=redircom]').click(function() {
	new Morebits.wiki.page(mw.config.get('wgPageName')).lookupCreator(function(e) {
	var creator = e.getCreator();
	if (creator !== 'DragonflySixtyseven') return;
	var chkbx = $('input[value=notify]');
	chkbx.parent().after(' Danger! Created by DragonFly');
	chkbx[0].checked = false;
	});
});
SD0001 (talk) 07:32, 4 June 2019 (UTC)
Hmm, this will throw an error unless the TW csd window is open. You'll have to figure out a way to add the event listener only when the csd window is opened. I'll think abt it. SD0001 (talk) 07:38, 4 June 2019 (UTC)
@SD0001: wow, thanks --DannyS712 (talk) 15:20, 4 June 2019 (UTC)

Leaderboard

Seeing your bot in second place on the NPP leaderboard was a nice sight to see today. signed, Rosguill talk 22:57, 3 June 2019 (UTC)

@Rosguill: hmm, maybe we should exclude bots? --DannyS712 (talk) 00:06, 4 June 2019 (UTC)
if our leaderboard was actually competitive and we were actually full top to bottom with people who put in a significant amount of effort reviewing redirects, I could see people preferring to have bots left out. As it is, I don't think anyone's going to mind, plus it makes it easier for people to keep track of the bot and increases the odds of people noticing anything weird happening. signed, Rosguill talk 01:23, 4 June 2019 (UTC)

Speedy Deletion of Naples United FC

I'm very mad at why you deleted Naples United FC for the FOURTH time. The club literally meets all the requirements needed and also you cant just list G4 as the reason why it needs to be deleted. To make things worse, you even marked it for SPEEDY deletion, instead of Proposed deletion. Matthewishere0 (talk) 02:38, 4 June 2019 (UTC)

@Matthewishere0: Looking at the logs for that page, it was originally deleted after Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Naples United FC. It was then recreated by you, and then deleted by Materialscientist. You then recreated it again, before it was deleted by Muboshgu. I personally did not delete it, nor has it been deleted 4 times. If you object to their actions (i.e. the deletion) I suggest talking to them instead - as a non-admin, I can no longer see the content of the page. DannyS712 (talk) 02:45, 4 June 2019 (UTC)

Twinkle talk page posts

Hi, is there any way that situations like this can be avoided: there's a single RfD discussion for a group of related redirects and probably there's no need for their creator to receive a long string of individual talk page notifications for each of them. – Uanfala (talk) 11:27, 4 June 2019 (UTC)

@Uanfala: Sorry, next time I'll combine them. I'm still not used to it posting notices for the target pages DannyS712 (talk) 15:19, 4 June 2019 (UTC)

Useboxes categorization

DannyS712, thank you for creating the userboxes. I would like to remind you that one of the tasks of WikiProject Userboxes is diffusing large userbox categories. I've already moved some the userboxes from Category:Userboxes to a more narrow category. —andrybak (talk) 21:24, 8 June 2019 (UTC)

Found new set of categories that need merging

Scientific society redirects to learned society, but we have separate trees for Category:Learned societies and Category:Scientific societies, which for some strange reason now have historical societies classified as learned but no scientific... (ex. Category:Learned societies by subject vs Category:Scientific societies by subject). Both have 'by country' that need to be merged (Category:Learned societies by country, scientific one doesn't have a container cat and they are just listed in main). Help :) --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here
03:26, 9 June 2019 (UTC)

@Piotrus: sure. What specifically do you want tagged, and what do you want the tag to be? --DannyS712 (talk) 03:33, 9 June 2019 (UTC)
I would like to propose a category merger for scientific tree to the learned tree, and I think all of the subcategories need a tag, some for merger, some for just renaming if there is no direct equivalent (like for most of the 'by subject'). I hope you have some tools that can help automate this rather then us having to tag each one by hand? --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 03:40, 9 June 2019 (UTC)
@Piotrus: I can automate it, I just need a list of what to merge, what to rename, and what to delete, etc --DannyS712 (talk) 03:41, 9 June 2019 (UTC)

To rename (from scientific to learned):

To merge (from s to l):

All other categories and articles in parent category Category:Scientific societies like Category:Academies of sciences just need to be recategorized following the merger of the parent. I think that covers all? --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 03:18, 10 June 2019 (UTC)

File mover granted

Hello DannyS712. Your account has been granted the "filemover" user right, either following a request for it or due to a clear need for the ability to move files. Please take a moment to review Wikipedia:File mover for more information on this user right and under what circumstances it is okay to move files. When you move a file please remember to update any links to the new name as well! If you do not want the file mover right anymore, just let me know, and I'll remove it. Thank you, and happy editing! ~Swarm~ {sting} 06:10, 9 June 2019 (UTC)

@Swarm: Thanks so much --DannyS712 (talk) 06:13, 9 June 2019 (UTC)
@Swarm: I have a question though: the note at Special:Move says that "Leaving a redirect from the prior title to the new is the norm for page moves for various reasons, such as that the prior title often has numerous internal and incoming links that would be broken upon the move and that it may be a likely search term. By contrast, such concerns are not normally applicable to file titles, which are often only linked from the one or two pages on which the file appears. Accordingly, unless this file is included in many pages (check using what links here; do not rely solely on the file links at the bottom of the file page), please consider manually changing all links to the old title to the new title, and then moving the file without leaving a redirect behind. The option to leave a redirect behind is checked by default, and must be unticked if you take this course." However, Wikipedia:Page mover#Suppress redirect criteria lists the situations where redirects can be suppressed, and says that "suppressing redirects in other cases may result in the revocation of page mover rights" - can you clarify? Thanks, --DannyS712 (talk) 06:23, 9 June 2019 (UTC)
(talk page watcher) Congrats. Everytime you use the "Suppress redirect" option, You are basically doing 2 things.
First is the renaming of the file and it should be done as per the policy see
WP:FMNN
Second you are CSDing the redirect that would normally have been created. So before you supress the redirect, you should make sure that your action is in accordance with one of the valid reasons to
WP:CSD
a redirect. If you cant think of a valid reason to suppress the redirect, you should not suppress it.
If you violate the above conditions repeatedly you will loose the FM bits. Good luck. --DBigXray 09:18, 10 June 2019 (UTC)
@DBigXray: in that case, the dialogue at Special:Move (determined by MediaWiki:Movepagetext-noredirectfixer, take a look at the source for what I am referring to) should probably be changed DannyS712 (talk) 09:23, 10 June 2019 (UTC)
I looked at your links. Cant find anything wrong. Can you quote what exactly you want changed in a Change X to Y format. --DBigXray 09:26, 10 June 2019 (UTC)
@DBigXray: The movepagetext includes the part listed below, which conflicts with the policy
{{#ifeq: {{NAMESPACE:{{#titleparts:{{PAGENAME}}|1|2}}}} | {{ns:File}} |
 {{#ifeq:{{#titleparts:{{PAGENAME}}|1|3}}||{{notice|Using the form below will rename a file, moving all of its history to the new name. This option is only available to administrators and file movers.

Leaving a [[Wikipedia:Redirect|redirect]] from the prior title to the new is the norm for ''page moves'' for various reasons, such as that the prior title often has numerous internal and incoming links that would be broken upon the move and that it may be a likely search term. By contrast, such concerns are not normally applicable to file titles, which are often only linked from the one or two pages on which the file appears. Accordingly, unless this file is included in many pages (check using [[Help:What links here|what links here]]; do not rely solely on the file links at the bottom of the file page), please consider manually changing all links to the old title to the new title, and then moving the file without leaving a redirect behind. The option to leave a redirect behind is checked by default, and must be unticked if you take this course.

Please remember after the move to revisit the file page and remove {{tl|rename media}} or any other code that requested the move. Please also consider [[Wikipedia:Moving files to Commons|moving this page to Commons]] if it is a public domain release or under a [[Commons:Licensing#Acceptable licenses|suitable free license]].
 }}
and should probably be changed --DannyS712 (talk) 15:11, 10 June 2019 (UTC)
It looks good to me. What is your change proposal. I guess the above language must have been selected based on some consensus discussion somewhere. --DBigXray 06:45, 11 June 2019 (UTC)
@DBigXray: What do you mean "it looks good" - the move instructions say one thing, and the policy page says something else!!! --DannyS712 (talk) 06:47, 11 June 2019 (UTC)
  • It seems you are seeing something that I have repeatedly failed to notice (and still do due to lack of a X to Y format). May be you can post your edit suggestion on the policy talk page for wider feedback. --DBigXray 09:30, 11 June 2019 (UTC)

Out of curiosity

Special:Diff/901170178. That script looks ... fascinating. What does it do? Suffusion of Yellow (talk) 05:08, 10 June 2019 (UTC)

@Suffusion of Yellow: Wow, how did you find it? Any way, its (a little bit) based off of your edit filter helper - the goal is to be able to select any previous revision, and from there force an edit conflict with the present revision, so that you can selectively undo previous edits. See meta:Community Wishlist Survey 2019/Admins and patrollers#Allow partial reverts for edits. I figured the new visual edit conflict wizard would be a good interface to use. Also, ygm --DannyS712 (talk) 05:11, 10 June 2019 (UTC)
I have your common.js watchlisted (It's more interesting than most userpages ), so it wasn't that hard to find. Anyway, I replied to the first email you sent today. If you sent another one, I didn't get it.
If you're trying to figure out how MediaWiki decides when there's an edit conflict, I've done I little digging myself. AFAIK, it's just calling GNU diff3! So the exact description of the algorithm is here. Suffusion of Yellow (talk) 06:05, 10 June 2019 (UTC)
@Suffusion of Yellow: hmm, good to know. I don't intend to read all of that, but I saw how you set the old revision with your script and experimented from there. Anyway, since edit conflicts don't work with yourself, if you don't mind I'll keep testing the script from time to time on your pages (and revert myself, of course) DannyS712 (talk) 06:08, 10 June 2019 (UTC)
Sure, no problem. Suffusion of Yellow (talk) 06:14, 10 June 2019 (UTC)
@Suffusion of Yellow: Also, thanks for testing 123 - I can't see it, but MusikBot tells me you did something, so I'm hopeful that in the medium-term it can be activated. Let me know if there is anything I can do to help DannyS712 (talk) 06:16, 10 June 2019 (UTC)

A barnstar for you!

The Anti-Vandalism Barnstar
For your efforts in combating vandalism. Thanks! You're even faster than I am every now and then (though this could be due to the lag from the Windows 10 Update on my computer). You really seem to be on top of things. LightandDark2000 🌀 (talk) 06:00, 10 June 2019 (UTC)
@LightandDark2000: wow I was in the middle of sending you the same thing. I use User:DannyS712/ContribSearch, made by a now-retired user, to easily see new changes by an editor. I set it to 5 changes total so that it wouldn't take long to update, and it refreshes every 3 seconds. Maybe that's why I'm faster --DannyS712 (talk) 06:03, 10 June 2019 (UTC)

Your discussion close at Talk:Bitcoin Cash

Hi, I want to discuss your close at Talk:Bitcoin Cash. What I am missing in your close is a reflection of the problem that the "option B" you chose as having consensus is not confirmed by the cited sources. Can you explain it to me, please? Thanks. Ladislav Mecir (talk) 08:31, 10 June 2019 (UTC)

@Ladislav Mecir: Both option A and B agree that Bitcoin cash is sometimes referred to as Bcash. The source from A, [17], says "Bitcoin Cash detractors like to call the cryptocurrency “Bcash,” “Btrash,” or simply, a scam," - thus both proposals agree that it is sometimes referred to as Bcash. The sources for B specifically also use Bcash: "Bitcoin Cash or “Bcash,”", "Bitcoin Cash, now also known as “Bcash,”", "parts of the community are referring to the new token as Bcash" - those are the first 3 of the sources cited specifically for option B. I checked the cited sources before the close, since so much of the discussion was about how it is named, and see evidence that it is indeed, at least sometimes, called Bcash. DannyS712 (talk) 08:40, 10 June 2019 (UTC)
Right, that part of the "option B" seems to be confirmed by the sources. Nevertheless, there is also the first part of the "optionB" stating: "The naming of Bitcoin Cash is contentious;" and this part is not confirmed by the cited sources. In my opinion, this part reverts the facts, trying to inform the reader that the "Bitcoin Cash" name is contentious without having any source confirming this claim. Ladislav Mecir (talk) 09:07, 10 June 2019 (UTC)
@Ladislav Mecir: (edit conflict) There wasn't any (as far as I could see) discussion about whether or not it was contentious, and given that an RfC had to be held it seems to me that it is contentious. That being said, I was primarily persuaded by the arguments about NPOV and DUE weight. The consensus favored option B, and from a policy perspective it is at least as acceptable as option A. Does that make sense? --DannyS712 (talk) 09:13, 10 June 2019 (UTC)
Thank you for your reponse. It does make sense, as far as the second part of the "option B" is concerned. As far as the first part (the part having a prominent position in the "option B") is concerned, it ignores the fact that the contentious nature of the "Bitcoin Cash" name is not confirmed by any cited source. I know that there are editors trying to cite the discussion as the proof, but that is against the Wikipedia policies, as far as I am informed. Ladislav Mecir (talk) 09:20, 10 June 2019 (UTC)
@Ladislav Mecir: yes, the discussion itself can't be cited, and I'm sorry I personally can't track down a source at the moment, though I believe that those who were supporting B have some (I didn't read all of the sources listed) - maybe tag a CN template there? DannyS712 (talk) 09:22, 10 June 2019 (UTC)
Well, I think that what is necessary is to appeal the close based on the fact that the Wikipedia policies were replaced by a logically incorrect conclusion that if there is a disagreement on formulation, the subject itself must be contentious in nature. Ladislav Mecir (talk) 09:26, 10 June 2019 (UTC)
@Ladislav Mecir: I did not say that it was contentious because an RfC was held, I said that it seems to be contentious because an RfC needed to be held. The close was based on the consensus that I saw at the discussion. Maybe wait a few days and see if the contentious part is sourced? --DannyS712 (talk) 09:28, 10 June 2019 (UTC)
Well, I think that your suggestion misses the purpose of the RfC. It is to find whether the Wikipedia policies are held. Since they are not, the "option B" should not have been picked as consensual, so an appeal is justified. Ladislav Mecir (talk) 09:32, 10 June 2019 (UTC)
@Ladislav Mecir: I have reverted my close - clearly there is more to this than just what was written in the discussion --DannyS712 (talk) 09:40, 10 June 2019 (UTC)
Thank you. Maybe my contributions were also a part of the problem, since I may not have explained the issue as well as I intended. Ladislav Mecir (talk) 09:46, 10 June 2019 (UTC)

Again a little help at gl.wiki

Hi Danny, I need again a little help with an user script, I hope you can help me. I'm using User:Joeytje50/JWB at Galician Wikipedia. It works fine, but there is a little issue. At "Editing" tab, you can set "Enable RegEx Typo Fixing", the problem is that at Galician Wikipedia that control points to Wikipedia:AutoWikiBrowser/Typos, the english typos, and it should point to Wikipedia:AutoWikiBrowser/Typos at gl.wiki. I told it to Joeytje50, User_talk:Joeytje50#Enabling_RegEx_Typo_Fixing_Javascript_Wiki_Browser_in_Galician_Wikipedia, but I have not got an answer. We need that tool al gl.wiki because our users don't know how to use the normal bots, and with this tool they can do many tasks of this style, and if we fix that, they will be able to improve the articles even more. Could you review it? O:) Bye, Elisardojm (talk) 09:11, 11 June 2019 (UTC)

@Elisardojm: sure, I'll take a look. Are you importing the english JWB directly, or did you make a fork of it on your own site? --DannyS712 (talk) 18:09, 11 June 2019 (UTC)
Hi, We are importing it from en.wiki, you can see it here. Bye, --Elisardojm (talk) 20:30, 11 June 2019 (UTC)
@Elisardojm: I'll try to debug it before the weekend. --DannyS712 (talk) 23:53, 11 June 2019 (UTC)
Great! :) Bye, --Elisardojm (talk) 06:36, 12 June 2019 (UTC)
@Elisardojm: Can you give me permission to use it there? DannyS712 (talk) 09:27, 13 June 2019 (UTC)

Hi, I can give you permission to use it at gl.wiki, It's done, but at en.wiki you should request at

Wikipedia:AutoWikiBrowser/CheckPage. Bye, --Elisardojm (talk
) 10:31, 13 June 2019 (UTC)

@Elisardojm: I already have permission on enwiki. --DannyS712 (talk) 16:17, 13 June 2019 (UTC)
Ah, ok, I added your user to gl.wiki, it should works now... Bye, Elisardojm (talk) 17:44, 13 June 2019 (UTC)
@Elisardojm: Okay, so the typo fix page is loaded from User:Joeytje50/RETF.js. The easiest thing to do would be to fork it on gl.wiki to make sure the API is executed locally, because that might be causing it. Are you okay with that? DannyS712 (talk) 22:53, 18 June 2019 (UTC)
I see, the problem is that if we fork the API, we will lost any upgrades of it... Is that the unique solution? Bye, Elisardojm (talk) 07:26, 19 June 2019 (UTC)
@Elisardojm: yes, but the script hasn't been updated in a while, and you can always update it again. Should I fork it and see if that works? --DannyS712 (talk) 07:43, 19 June 2019 (UTC)
Ok, let's try it! Thanks! Bye, Elisardojm (talk) 15:40, 20 June 2019 (UTC)
@Elisardojm: Okay, try importing gl:Usuario:DannyS712/JWB.js instead --DannyS712 (talk) 21:56, 29 June 2019 (UTC)

Hi Danny, I was very busy last days, sorry. I have tryed that change, here, but now I don't have the link to JS Wiki Browser. Perhaps I made an incorrect change... Bye, Elisardojm (talk) 09:21, 11 July 2019 (UTC)

@Elisardojm: you did make an incorrect change - see gl:Special:Permalink/5194695 for what it should look like - you have an extra /load.js. --DannyS712 (talk) 02:54, 12 July 2019 (UTC)
Hi, I have copied that line, but it doesn't fix the problem.... :( Bye, Elisardojm (talk) 07:27, 12 July 2019 (UTC)
@Elisardojm: it should, what happens when you go to gl:Wikipedia:AutoWikiBrowser/Script? --DannyS712 (talk) 12:20, 12 July 2019 (UTC)
Yes the link open the JSW Browser, but It has disappeared the link to the tool in tools menu. In addition, the feature doesn't works, the link in JSW Browser to RegEx fixes still link to en.wiki page. Bye, Elisardojm (talk) 16:10, 13 July 2019 (UTC)
@Elisardojm: the link may be the same, but the actual source of the RegEx fixes should be the local gl page. --DannyS712 (talk) 16:12, 13 July 2019 (UTC)
I tested it with this test page, and it didn't work, it should have fixed "Abellaruxo" and "abexorro", but it didn't detect them. If I put a word to replace it, it detects it, but it doesn't detect the RegEx words... Bye, Elisardojm (talk) 07:45, 14 July 2019 (UTC)
@Elisardojm: Then I'm sorry, I don't know what to say. I'll try to figure it out, but no promises --DannyS712 (talk) 12:55, 14 July 2019 (UTC)
Ok, thank you anyway! Elisardojm (talk) 13:48, 14 July 2019 (UTC)

Presbyterian Church of Ghana

@ DannyS712 🍁 (talk) The content of the link you posted (https://ghanachurch.com/presbyterian-church-of-ghana/) was actually copied from the Presbyterian Church of Ghana Wikipedia article if you look at the dates. That webpage article was dated 31 March 2018, while the wiki information predates it. A little due diligence could have helped.

more coding help

Hey Danny!

I'm trying to figure out what I did wrong with User:MJL/textDisallow.js. The goal is to simply highlight instances of the word "Disallow" on Special:AbuseLog. Can you help by taking a look at it when you get a chance? –MJLTalk 20:23, 13 June 2019 (UTC)

@MJL: sure, I'll take a look --DannyS712 (talk) 20:47, 13 June 2019 (UTC)
@MJL: I couldn't follow what you were doing, so I kind-of rewrote the entire script: User:DannyS712 test/disallow.js should do what you want. The biggest change is that I got rid of the "textDisallow" class, since inline CSS is enough. --DannyS712 (talk) 22:47, 18 June 2019 (UTC)

No problem. There are more important matters, but I'm generally quite paranoid about that subject, as you know. Suffusion of Yellow (talk) 02:16, 14 June 2019 (UTC)

Talk:African humid period#Merger discussion with Neolithic subpluvial

Greetings,

several months ago you closed the merger discussion on

Neolithic subpluvial is already on African humid period but the objecting editor noted that deletion might make sense instead. As you are the closer of the merger discussion and I was both the initiator of the discussion and the main author of AHP, I wanted to ask for your comments before reopening the discussion in any form. @Jo-Jo Eumerus: Well, shouldn't redirect discussions occur at RfD? Otherwise, I see no reason why you shouldn't go ahead with your plan --DannyS712 (talk) 10:24, 14 June 2019 (UTC)
RFD is for discussing pages that are redirects, not these which one is proposing should become redirects, as far as I know.

Draft categories on drafts

DannyS712 bot removed Category:The Walt Disney Company drafts from a draft.[23] The category is intended for drafts. Can the bot be coded to not remove categories with Draft/Drafts/draft/drafts in the name? Category:Draft articles has many. Another thing, [24] looks confusing on the rendered page because the category links are piped. I think {{Draft categories}} is better [25] but I made it so I may be biased. Could the bot use it? PrimeHunter (talk) 08:18, 16 June 2019 (UTC)

@PrimeHunter: The bot operates based on Module:AFC submission catcheck's detection of categories being written on the page - I have included ignoring categories that end in "drafts", which should fix it. Sorry about that. About the {{draft categories}} part, that would be a lot more complicated to code - can I get back to you about if I can implement it? Thanks, --DannyS712 (talk) 08:28, 16 June 2019 (UTC)
Thanks. That handles Category:The Walt Disney Company drafts. I see "Category:Drafts about ..." is already handled. Category:Draft articles is usually added by templates. A search [26] only found two current exceptions. Category:Promising draft articles appears to always be added by a template. {{draft categories}} is not important. PrimeHunter (talk) 08:57, 16 June 2019 (UTC)
@PrimeHunter: I changed "Drafts about..." to just "Drafts..." DannyS712 (talk) 08:59, 16 June 2019 (UTC)
[stalking] That template looks awesome. Thanks for creating it PrimeHunter! For a decade we've been following this odd and ugly practice of putting categories as links in userspace/drafts, I wonder why it took till 2018 for this innovation to come by. Cleanup bots should definitely be using this template. DannyS712, I don't think its any complicated to code. Just remove all cats from the page wherever they are, and put them all at the bottom within the template (stub tags aren't used in non-mainspace, so cats should always come at the very bottom). Basically replace the line
var new_text = text.replace( /\[\[Category/gi, '\[\[:Category' ); // Replace categorization with links
with:
var categories = text.match(/\[\[[Cc]ategory:.*?\]\]/);
var new_text = text.replace(/\[\[[Cc]ategory:.*?\]\]\s*/, '') + '\n{{Draft categories|\n' + categories.join('\n') + '\n}}';
SD0001 (talk) 14:13, 27 June 2019 (UTC)
@SD0001: thanks for the code, I’ll take a look when I have a chance. But, I don’t think it’ll be that simple, since I would also need to account for the template already holding some categories. Anyway, thanks —DannyS712 (talk) 15:02, 27 June 2019 (UTC)

Redirect edge case?

I came across

Arturs Zagars –> Artūrs Žagars in my patrols today, which seems like something your bot should have picked up. My guess is that either the ū or the ž doesn't have an ASCII base character mapping. signed, Rosguill talk

Could you please undo my editing on bongwan page?

Hi. I just made a mistake in editing 본관 page, but can't undo. Can you revert my editing? Thanks. B2V22BHARAT (talk) 07:22, 19 June 2019 (UTC)

I think people can mispronounce this word if hyphen is omitted, so I think bon-gwan(original title) is correct. B2V22BHARAT (talk) 07:30, 19 June 2019 (UTC)

@B2V22BHARAT: So you want the page to be at Bon-gwan, right? --DannyS712 (talk) 07:32, 19 June 2019 (UTC)
Yes. B2V22BHARAT (talk) 07:33, 19 June 2019 (UTC)
@B2V22BHARAT: Okay, it should be fixed now - I've tagged some for deletion, but you can probably ignore those - its just because the redirects that were left behind where edited, so I couldn't overwrite them myself. Let me know if there were any remaining problems --DannyS712 (talk) 07:38, 19 June 2019 (UTC)
Also, in my first-attempt, I couldn't erase hyphen in the title. May I know why? Thanks. B2V22BHARAT (talk) 07:37, 19 June 2019 (UTC)
@B2V22BHARAT: I'm not sure what you mean... --DannyS712 (talk) 07:39, 19 June 2019 (UTC)
@DannyS712: I wanted to change the title from bon-gwan to bongwan, but it didn't work.. B2V22BHARAT (talk) 07:41, 19 June 2019 (UTC)
@B2V22BHARAT: because Bongwan already exists --DannyS712 (talk) 07:42, 19 June 2019 (UTC)
@DannyS712: Oh, so if the spelling is the same, it doesn't matter if the hyphen is present or not? B2V22BHARAT (talk) 07:46, 19 June 2019 (UTC)
@B2V22BHARAT: no, its that the page you wanted to move it too already existed. You can't move "A" to "B" if "B" already exists --DannyS712 (talk) 07:47, 19 June 2019 (UTC)
@DannyS712: Oh I know that, but when I type bongwan, only bon-gwan page appears without any disambiguation pages showing. Never mind, I guess it's some kind of redirected from~ issue. Thanks for help. B2V22BHARAT (talk) 07:53, 19 June 2019 (UTC)

Thank you!

Every time I go to check out some page that I think has problems, I see that you've already been there and fixed it. And you somehow have 71,362 edits in only 9 months? You must be working here 24/7! That is more edits than many productive editors have who have been here a decade. AND you have created bots to take care of some tedious tasks automatically?!

I don't know what accounts for your amazing productivity but I just wanted to thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. You've made all of our jobs much easier. At this rate, some of us might not be needed any more! ;-) Liz Read! Talk! 00:21, 20 June 2019 (UTC)

@Liz: No problem, though its not as many edits as you have... give me a few more months. Did anything specific prompt this? Thanks, --DannyS712 (talk) 00:52, 20 June 2019 (UTC)
Well, I was looking at the self-categorized categories list. I didn't think many editors even know about these pages. That's what prompted this note but I seem to run into your good work nearly every day. Liz Read! Talk! 17:21, 20 June 2019 (UTC)
@Liz: Oh, well thanks --DannyS712 (talk) 17:48, 20 June 2019 (UTC)

DYK for Carin Clauss

On 21 June 2019, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Carin Clauss, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that Carin Clauss, the first female solicitor of the United States Department of Labor, was also nominated by President Carter to be a judge? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Carin Clauss. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, Carin Clauss), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

@
Mjs1991: Not quite: see this version of the RfX report - it says "14:48, 29 June 2019" in the "Ending (UTC)" column, and "8 days, 8 hours" in the "Time left" column. For me, this was a clear indication that something was wrong: nobody should get more than 7 days, 0 hours. So I looked for the actual transclusion edit and noted its timestamp; then found the edit of the RfA which was closest to that in time, added seven days to its its timestamp, and used this value to fix the RfA to show a more acceptable ending time. The RfX report was soon amended to match. --Redrose64 🌹 (talk
