Copyright violations

Please don't translate copyrighted text, this is also a copyright violation. In Nicolas Mahler, I noticed first that the introduction was a translation of the source you added[1]. Looking further, it seems you also added[2] the sentence "He is self-taught, he never went to university, but got his first illustration assignments soon after leaving school." which is identical to the Google Translate version of the sentence in the original[3][4]. Even though you made minimal changes to the sentence later on, this is not permitted.

Please don't add translated copyrighted text to other articles, and please remove such text from other articles where you may have done this.

Looking further, I notice that you don't only do this with translations, but in general. E.g. Fantasie (Widmann), two of the three lead sentences:

  • "The work is largely based on the usual Romantic melodious sound, though this time with ironic side trips into dance, klezmer and jazz music, the clarinet's equivalent of light music."
  • Source[5]:

  • "Widmann’s clarinet showpiece offers wild antics and a Harlequin spirit."
  • Source[6]:

Further down:

---  Gisbert ツ (talk Illustrate Wikipedia !   20:17, 22 October 2021 (UTC)

Ich kann leider nicht helfen. Das überschreitet meine Fähigkeiten. Grimes2 (talk) 06:07, 3 January 2022 (UTC)
(talk page watcher) That template was placed here, without explanation, although as part of an otherwise apparently knowledgeable edit. There is some phrasing that could be improved, but the only positively confusing sentence that I found is On the occasion of his 95th birthday, an international clarinet competition named after Mozgovenko has been taking place in Russia since 2019. That could be improved merely by writing "Beginning on the occasion..." Also, the "Copy edit" template doesn't belong before the "Short description" one; nothing does. Dhtwiki (talk) 16:07, 3 January 2022 (UTC)
Done Thanks for the advice. Can I remove the copy edit template? Grimes2 (talk) 16:18, 3 January 2022 (UTC)
I would say so. At least move it. As I said, some of the phrasing might be improved; but the article isn't in dire need of a copy editor. Dhtwiki (talk) 18:55, 3 January 2022 (UTC)

February songs
frozen

Thank you for what you did for his article! Today I "celebrate" Mit Fried und Freud ich fahr dahin, BWV 125, on DYK 10 years ago and TFA 4 years ago. I'm less happy that Biller, when he finally appeared, stayed not even for a full day. It would have been so meaningful today, with the man in the cantata saying he can depart in joy and peace. - The February pic was taken in memory last year. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 16:58, 2 February 2022 (UTC)

Thank you for more help with other background articles! - I like my talk today (keeping Biller a bit longer, and even explaining how it works), and managed to picture two more vacation days --Gerda Arendt (talk) 16:45, 3 February 2022 (UTC)

Verband Deutscher Prädikatsweingüter

Grimes2,obviously you like maps. A map comprising the location of all Prädikatsweingüter would be appreciated.--Symposiarch (talk) 14:43, 9 February 2022 (UTC)

Prädikatsweingüter are many wineries in Germany. Its possible to create such a map, but I don't have the skills to do, right now. Sorry. Grimes2 (talk) 14:50, 9 February 2022 (UTC)
@Symposiarch: I've created a map: User:Grimes2/sandbox. Don't expect too much. A detail map of Rheingau would be nice. Ahr and Mittelrhein are missing and Franken and Württemberg are outside the scope. Grimes2 (talk) 16:18, 10 February 2022 (UTC)
@Grimes2: this is pretty much what I have expected. It outlines where the Prädikatsweingüter are located and that it is a quaestion of terroir.--Symposiarch (talk) 17:49, 10 February 2022 (UTC)
Done You can add the map to the article VDP. I will add the map for Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg later. Grimes2 (talk) 20:11, 10 February 2022 (UTC)
You reverted my map on Gutenberg Museum etc. My edits were not optimal. It's maybe better to add OSM (Openstreetmap) maps for Mainz?

OSM map:

What do you think? Grimes2 (talk) 21:13, 10 February 2022 (UTC)

The OSM map delivers added value as you see where the museum is located in the town. The map before showed only Mainz, which may be looked up in the releant article. Well done. Nevertheless I do not regard maps very relevant. The space should be preferably saved for artefacts of the museum.--Symposiarch (talk) 07:31, 11 February 2022 (UTC)
In times of navigation devices it is less important, but I'm sure: It's important to know, where the museum is located. Grimes2 (talk) 08:22, 11 February 2022 (UTC)

Operissimo began as copying Kutsch/Riemens GSL (same for Der Neue Merker, and another site, forgot it's name, mostly women). Google finds Operisimo but rarely the other, also copying from Operissimo is easier as for GLS where you have to type it. Hello, I see on your user page that you use JSTOR and I'd like to know more about your experience. By my calculations, a good 70 % of the main JSTOR content is now available for everyone at Internet Archive Scholar, with full text search provided e.g. at https://scholar.archive.org/ . The service is still in beta, but I've used it for some source-finding and it seems quite usable to me; I wonder whether that's just my experience. If you have a chance, the next time you'd be looking for a source on Google Scholar or JSTOR or similar, to perform the same search on IA scholar instead, I'd be curious to hear how it ends up. Thanks, Nemo 19:04, 22 March 2022 (UTC)

Thank you for the info on the above's article's DYK template, about the author of the logo image. I have received advice from Yeeno about what to do if I know Joséphine Dusol (which I don't), and what to do if I don't know her. I'll copy the advice below. Do you know her? I can easily transfer the file as an unfree thumbnail to English Wikipedia if necessary.

If you are in contact with the uploader, the most straightforward way to confirm the licensing would be to ask them to email COM:VRT confirming they are the copyright holder. If you aren't however, then you would want to contact them to confirm the file's copyright status.

Otherwise, if we want to go the COM:TOO route, things get a bit more complex. The logo looks simple enough for COM:TOO US|the threshold of originality in the US, which is good. However, from what I found, the organization was founded in Germany (let me know if I'm wrong), so it's COM:TOO Germany|TOO laws would apply as well, and that's the part I'm not so sure of. I'll try to get back to you if I find more info on the German laws.

TL;DR: If you can contact the author, please do so. Otherwise we have to rely on TOO. If that doesn't work out you can probably still use the logo on Wikipedia by uploading it there, since it is free in the US. The template for that situation on en Wiki is w:Template:PD-ineligible-USonly.

It's actually simpler than it looks, I believe. Either we ask her to confirm her authorship to WP, or if we can't, I can easily transfer the file to en.wikipedia (I've done that often before) and it can stay on the article as an unfree file. Thank you for your patience. Storye book (talk) 10:00, 14 April 2022 (UTC)

I don't know her too, but I sent an e-mail. Grimes2 (talk) 10:35, 14 April 2022 (UTC)
Brilliant - thank you. In my experience, they all fall at the first fence when trying to navigate the Commons auto instructions system to give permission. So I have put together a list of things for the author to put in an email to them, here. It has worked so far, and it saves a lot of messing about. Storye book (talk) 14:47, 14 April 2022 (UTC)
Communication manager is now Christy Romer. He is currently in Easter vacation. So it can take some time. Grimes2 (talk) 15:03, 14 April 2022 (UTC)
Thank you. That may not work then, because the permission has to be given to Commons by the actual creator, and I believe she created the graphic. I am now worrying that I should not have raised this question, because she uploaded it as her own work, and she uploaded it with a valid licence, so it should be OK, no matter who she is or what job she has. When I started this enquiry, I had not realised that it was her own work, though it seems obvious now. I'm tempted to back off. What is your opinion? Storye book (talk) 16:39, 14 April 2022 (UTC)
We have an upload of an own work with valid licence. The creator seems to work somewhere else (allea.org) and is on parental leave. So we have to wait for the declaration of consent. Grimes2 (talk) 17:26, 14 April 2022 (UTC)
That's fair enough. Thank you for your patience with this. I'm not going to do anything more unless the file gets tagged or whatever. Storye book (talk) 19:48, 14 April 2022 (UTC)

Thank you for doing justice to him! - I have the quirky DYK today, which is rare, and I don't quite know why music for peace was deemed quirky. - I took and picked the blue-and-yellow pic last year for May. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 14:15, 3 May 2022 (UTC)

Thank you for substantial help for "him", and others! Ukrainian peace music is "on" today, with the conductor! - Pentecost (on last Sunday and Monday in Germany) brought a rich harvest of great music in two church services (one with me singing in choir) and two concerts with my brother in the orchestra, - four pictures I took besides the symphonic one. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 14:24, 8 June 2022 (UTC)

Thank you for adding to Geosits. I need to leave "him" for now. I think with a bit of effort, he might also be sufficient for RD, - sources for studies, a few of the translated pieces mentioned, a bit more from the prize talk. I believe the pic was dated wrong, - can't be 2017 when appearing in a 2015 newspaper. For today, I need to turn to RL (pleasantly), and then hopefully get last week's hymn ready for DYK, but if you feel inclined to do more for him, go ahead. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 14:46, 23 June 2022 (UTC)

September music

September songs

Thank you for these! - 1 September: I remember the Vespro della Beata Vergine, 2 September: the last of the Rheingau Musik Festival concerts, and today we can read The Story of Mr Sommer, and follow Ruth Lapide.

Today's recommended reading: Opera in Ukraine --Gerda Arendt (talk) 23:01, 5 September 2022 (UTC)

And today's Lars Vogt, with thanks for the stellar work on referencing the detailed recordings list! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 06:14, 7 September 2022 (UTC)

a rainbow pic today, and a deer yesterday (but hard to see) - Jubilate Deo --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:40, 8 September 2022 (UTC)

the rose pic was taken on 11 Sep 2021, and this year was full of music that day, Tag des offenen Denkmals, not only singing in church and rehearsals for Verdi's Requiem, but two concerts at special places pictured, one a synagogue (pictured on its wall). Today three DYK: a piece we'll perform on Sunday, a violinist we heard in June playing the Berg Concerto, and a Youth Orchestra shaped by a conductor who recently died. Almost too much of a good thing. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 14:18, 14 September 2022 (UTC)
