Linneus is a small city in Linn County, Missouri, United States. The population was 281 at the 2020 census.^[4] It is the county seat of Linn County.^[5]

History

Linneus was designated county seat in 1839.^[6] Originally Linnville, its name was changed to honor Carl Linnaeus in 1840.^[7] A post office called Linneus has been in operation since 1840.^[8]

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 1.08 square miles (2.80 km²), of which 1.07 square miles (2.77 km²) is land and 0.01 square miles (0.03 km²) is water.^[10]

The average household size was 2.32 and the average family size was 2.94.

The median age in the city was 44 years. 24.1% of residents were under the age of 18; 6.9% were between the ages of 18 and 24; 21.3% were from 25 to 44; 33.1% were from 45 to 64; and 14.7% were 65 years of age or older. The gender makeup of the city was 50.4% male and 49.6% female.

The median age was 39 years. For every 100 females, there were 101.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 96.4 males.
