Soura, (Urdu pronunciation:
Barricade
The people of the neighbourhood are known for their resistance against the Indian army and pro-Pakistani sentiments by blocking the entry of Indian security forces, and particularly the paramilitary police, into the eighborhood. Soura, home to about 15,000 people, was the epicentre of resistance to the government’s removal on August 5 of the partial autonomy enjoyed by Jammu and Kashmir, the country’s only Muslim-majority state.[7][8]
