Revision as of 20:40, 10 January 2021

Welcome—request protection of a page, file, or template here.

Before requesting, read the protection policy. Full protection is used to stop edit warring between multiple users or to prevent vandalism to high-risk templates; semi-protection and pending changes are usually used to prevent IP and new user vandalism (see the rough guide to semi-protection); and move protection is used to stop pagemove revert wars. Extended confirmed protection is used where semi-protection has proved insufficient (see the rough guide to extended confirmed protection)

After a page has been protected, it is listed in the page history and logs with a short rationale, and the article is listed on Special:Protectedpages. In the case of full protection due to edit warring, admins should not revert to specific versions of the page, except to get rid of obvious vandalism.

Request protection of a page, or increasing the protection level

Request unprotection of a page, or reducing the protection level

Request a specific edit to a protected page
Please request an edit directly on the protected page's talk page before posting here

Current requests for increase in protection level

Place requests for new or upgrading pending changes, semi-protection, full protection, move protection, create protection, template editor protection, or upload protection at the BOTTOM of this section. Check the archive of fulfilled and denied requests or, failing that, the page history if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Temporary semi-protection: Is being continuously vandalized by this user, They are abusing it with the account and multiple IPs despite repeated warnings, I have already launched a SPI, Seems to be highly motivated and persistent, I can only revert so many times, Request that this page be semi-protected for atleast a month so they dont come back in some other IPs-- KindCowboy69 10:22 AM January 10, 2021 10:22, 10 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

    Indefinite semi-protection: Persistent

vandalism – Same IP user (177.13.121.220 , 177.13.127.107, etc.) keeps removing parts of the article for no reason, especially parts which contain negative feedback about Elton John's performance in the song. This has been going on for months now. I suggest a permanent protection on the page. Sricsi (talk) 16:24, 10 January 2021 (UTC)[reply

    Temporary extended confirmed protection: Persistent

vandalism – Now-indeffed editor User:LittleMemories has been waging a persistent edit war and gaming autoconfirmed to persistently and unilaterally make changes that are currently the subject of an RfC. Autoconfirmed sockpuppets appear on a regular basis to make the same change. Reporting and reverting are getting tedious. Eggishorn (talk) (contrib) 16:34, 10 January 2021 (UTC)[reply

2021 storming of the United States Capitol

No idea what to ask for but mainpage links here and the article is a mess with warring, fast edits going back and forth. Also a mess in other ways, the lead is extremely long, and I am seeing a lot of POV: e.g. "The riots and storming of the Capitol were described as treason, insurrection, sedition, domestic terrorism, and an attempt by Trump to carry out a coup d'état or self-coup." (That happens to be my own POV, but I still don't think we should link to my POV from Wiki's main page.) People coming to Wikipedia for information deserve better than what we have to show them there. HouseOfChange (talk) 17:06, 10 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Note: The article is already semiprotected. ECP would be useless, as the vast bulk of edits—including controversial ones—is coming from extended-confirmed users. Full protection would be completely inappropriate, as it would exclude all but a small minority of productive users from editing what is now a vital article. Any page on a subject this fraught and this fresh is bound to get bogged down in recentism and POV—protection is not the way to deal with it. I would personally decline but am happy to hear other admins' takes on this, perhaps in a more appropriate venue. Fvasconcellos (t·c) 17:17, 10 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Declined – Not enough recent disruptive activity to justify protection. There are no BLP violations in the recent history—the last instances were in December, while under pending changes, and both were reverted quickly. Fvasconcellos (t·c) 18:56, 10 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent disruptive editing – Requesting 30 days semi-protection. This is a recent event in Ireland, with misinformation and lies being spread online by racists (as mentioned in the article itself), including disrupting editing of this article. Current requests for reduction in protection level

Before posting, first discuss with the protecting admin at their talk page. Post below only if you receive no reply.

    • To find out the username of the admin who protected the page click on "history" at the top of the page, then click on "View logs for this page" which is under the title of the page. The protecting admin is the username in blue before the words "protected", "changed protection level" or "pending changes". If there are a number of entries on the log page, you might find it easier to select "Protection log" or "Pending changes log" from the dropdown menu in the blue box.
    • Requests to downgrade full protection to template protection on templates and modules can be directed straight here; you do not need to ask the protecting admin first.
    • Requests for removing create protection on redlinked articles are generally assisted by having a draft version of the intended article prepared beforehand.
    • If you want to make spelling corrections or add uncontroversial information to a protected page please add {{Edit fully-protected}} to the article's talk page, along with an explanation of what you want to add to the page. If the talk page is protected please use the section below.

Check the archives if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

    The talk page
Talk:Israel-Hamas War is protected, therefore edit requests by non-extended-confirmed users land here. That is acceptable, and this request made above is reasonable. The people who actually do participate on that talk page should be reviewing requests here that remain open and haven't been declined for days. ~Anachronist (talk) 20:30, 2 June 2024 (UTC)[reply

Not done – Unsourced claim for something that's inherently unquantifiable. Favonian (talk) 18:59, 2 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Actually it is quantifiable. The measurement would be tourist visits. In that respect, based on sources I found, New York City does indeed come out number one when considering only US cities, in terms of both foreign tourism as well as domestic tourism. For US states, on the other hand New York isn't even in the top three. But changing "populous" to "popular" is just wrong and vague, and doesn't reflect the sources already cited. ~Anachronist (talk) 20:37, 2 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Create a level 3 header with a link to the article in question, then a {{pagelinks}} template and then the reason.
