The film opens with a shootout in a old style haveli in Wasseypur.Sultan Qureshi (Pankaj Tripathi) along with his henchman unleash a wave of bullets and grenades on it.The target family is seen to be alive and hiding in another room but Sultan believes that he has killed everyone in the house and he alongwith his men retreat away from the crime scene in a Jeep while Definite Khan is seen heading towards the bullet riddled house. He calls JP Singh (Satya Anand) on his cell phone and reports that Faizal Khan (Nawazuddin Siddiqui) and his family have been successfully executed but he is double crossed by J.P.Singh and there opens a fire fight with the police blocking his escape route.The scene cuts abruptly and the opening credits start rolling.

Introduction of Wasseypur and Dhanbad

The narration describes the history and nature of Wasseypur.The village has been historically ruled by the Qureshi Muslims, a sub-caste of animal butchers who are feared by the non-qureshi Muslims in Wasseypur and Dhanbad by extension.

During the British Raj, the British seized the farm lands of Dhanbad for coal thus began the business of coal mining in Dhanbad. The region was a hotbed of the faceless local dacoit Sultana Qureshi who robbed British trains in the night and thus holds some patriotic value for the locals.

Circa 1940s

Shahid Khan taking advantage of the mysteriousness of a local mysterious Qureshi dacoit Sultana, impersonates his identity and begins robbing the British trains. The Qureshi clans eventually find out and order the banishment of Shahid Khan, his family and from Wasseypur. They settle down in Dhanbad where Shahid begins work as a labourer in a coal mine.His wife dies in childbirth compications as he was not able to tend to her because being denied the leave by the coalmine muscleman. Enraged, Shahid kills the muscle-man. In 1947, Independent India begins to assert its authority over itself. The British coal mines are sold to Indian industrialists and Ramadhir Singh (Tigmanshu Dhulia) receives a few coal-mines in the Dhanbad region. He hires Shahid as the new muscle-man of the coal mine who terrorizes the local population to seize their lands and extract compliance.

Shahid is then murdered on the orders of Ramadhir Singh when he overhears his ambitions of taking over the coal mines.Farhan finds Ramadhir's umbrella with his initials near the door, concluding that Ramadhir eavesdropped on their conversation.He flees from the place with Shahid's son Sardar in the nick of time as Ehsaan Qureshi (Vipin Sharma), another associate of Ramaadhir Singh shows up too late for killing them. An unsuccessful Ehsaan lies to Singh that Shahid's family has been murdered and buried. Sardar grows along with his cousin Asghar (Jameel Khan) and learns the truth about his fathers death upon which he shaves his head vowing not to grow it until Ramadhir singh is dead.

Circa 1950–60

Ramadhir Singh establishes himself in the coal mining by misusing his position and power as a trade union leader by turning it into a mafia organisation threating labourers into giving a substantial portion of their income to Ramaadhir's henchmen.Singh encourages the labourers to dip the coal ores into water to show a constant production while he sells the hidden portion of the coal production in the black market.

Circa Early and Mid 1970s

Ramadhir Singh murders S P Singh a Coal Inida official who oversees coal production in the region after natiolisation of the coal sector, suspecting foul play to him.But it was Sardar and his kin who had started hijacking Ramaadhir's coal trucks mid transit giving him partial payments from the officials.Post Sinha's murder, Ramaadhir starts being feared by everyone in Dhanbad. Unable to have sex with his wife beacuse of her frequent pregnancies Sardar confesses his sexual frustrations with his kins. At dinner, Nagma gives her consent to Sardar to sleep with other women but with the condition that he won't bring them home or dishonour the family name.

Sardar becomes JP's driver when Asghar joins JP's transport business with JP financing the fuel.Asghar and Sardar sell fuel from the vehicles in the black market.Sardar and Aghar continue hurting the Singhs by robbing one of their petrol pumps and usurping their land leading to a confrontation with Ramadhir Singh at a police station.

The meeting between Sardar and Ramaadhir ends in a scuffle with the later realising that Sardar Khan is in fact the son of Shahid khan who Singh killed a long time ago.Sardar and Asghar are sent for jail time for hitting JP.

Circa Early 1980s

Sardar and Asghar esacape from the jail. While hiding in Dhanbad, Sardar marries a Bengali Hindu girl named Durga (Reema Sen). Asghar informs Nagma that Sardar has finally taken Durga as his second wife leaving Farhan very angry and helpless at Nagmas situation.

Wasseypur has merged with Dhanbad where the Qureshi goons terrorizing the local non-Qureshi Muslims.Sardar Khan is approached by the locals for help in reference to his fathers fights with Qureshis.During the festival of

Sardar leaves his first wife Nagma Khatoon because of her refusal to have sex while being pregnant leaving her devastated.He comes back to give some money on the birth of his third son.

Ramaadhir Singh, noticing that Sardar has abandoned him first wife and kids, tries to reach out to the family through Danish by giving him a thousand rupees. Nagma gets enraged and beats Danish for taking the money and Nagma breaks down in front of Farhan and both are about to have sex when Faizal slams his hand on the door before storming out of the house. Even though Nagma and Farhan never ended up having sex,Farhan is full of remorse while the incident has severe psychological implications for Faizal and he becomes a pothead and never sees eye to eye again with Farhan

Circa Mid and Late 1980s

Sensing Sardar's increasing clout, Ramaadhir calls his old associate Ehsaan Qureshi who brokers a meeting between Sultan Qureshi and Ramaadhir Singh where the two decide to become allies against their common enemy, Sardar Khan. Sultan asks Ramaadhir for modern automatic weapons which the later promises to give.

Circa 1990s

Sardar becomes the most feared man in Wasseypur and shifts his business to stealing iron ore. Danish khan joins in the family business.A failed attack from Sultan Qureshi leaves Danish with a minor injury and causes reconciliation between Sardar and Nagma.Sardar finds Ramaadhir and warns him of terrible consequences if anything ever happens to a member of his family.

An adult Faizal is seriously influenced by Bollywood movies.Faizal gets jailed for buying illegal ammunition for Sardar.On release he kills the man who implicated him in the case not knowing that he was the same man who had killed his grandfather.

Sardar graduates to making money by seizing a lake belonging to a local temple and charge a commission on fish sellers who make a catch in that lake. During a random round of making collections, Danish is attracted to Shama Parveen in a shop who is the sister of Sultan Qureshi.Danish approaches a Qureshi man and suggests making peace between the two families. Ehsaan Qureshi also agrees and decides to rid the two families of animosity by getting Danish Khan married to Shama Parveen.

Ramaadhir singh confronts and express his displeasure with Sultan Qureshi over his sisters wedding to his enemy's son Danish. At the nikah ceremony, Sultan warns Shama Parveen with death if she agrees to the nikah with Danish but she goes ahead with it anyway.

While smoking Ganja with his friends, Faizal reveals to them that his father Sardar would be travelling without security the next day. Late night, while Faizal is still asleep, his friend who turns out to be a spy calls up the Qureshis and passes this bit of information on Sardar to them.Sardar leaves home alone and reaches the Durga household to give them their expense allowance.Durga turns out to be yet another Qureshi spy.The Qureshi men follow Sardars car and when the later stops at a petrol pump to refuel they start shooting while Sardar ducks in the car for cover. The Qureshi men put several close rounds through the car window ensuring a precise & unmistakable hit after which they escape. Astonishingly, Sardar opens the car door and stands up revealing multiple bullet wounds, one directly on his head and steps out with his gun cocked, loaded and ready to fire but ultimately, he collapses to his death on a ferry cycle.

Oye Lucky! Lucky Oye! (

The film is inspired by the real life shenanigans of Devinder Singh alias Bunty.^[9] Bunty was responsible for robbing more than 100 showrooms and 300 homes in Delhi. The police were finally able to catch him in 2007.

Plot

2004

A family in Wasseypur is watching a popular Indian soap opera named Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi when suddenly the TV is blown up by gunfire. Sultan Qureshi (Pankaj Tripathi) along with his henchmen are scouring the locality, killing suspicious passers-by on the way. They narrow down on a house and unleash a wave of bullets and grenades on it. Sultan then makes a call on the cell phone of the target inside the house but no one answers leading Sultan to believe that the target is dead. However, the target family is seen to be alive and hiding in another room. Sultan and his men retreat away from the crime scene in a Jeep while Definite Khan is seen heading towards the bullet riddled house. Sultan calls JP Singh (Satya Anand) on his cell phone and reports that Faizal Khan (Nawazuddin Siddiqui) and his family have been successfully executed but his conversation is interrupted when he notices his escape route blocked by a station of active police check-post on the road. Sultan queries about it with JP Singh but the later disconnects the call purportedly revealing to Sultan that he has been double-crossed. A constable from the check-post notices the Jeep and walks towards it. Sultan's men panic and open fire on the police which triggers a fire fight. The scene cuts abruptly and the opening credits start rolling.

Noting the dire situations of the coal labourers, Delhi Nationalises the coal mines and establishes a system of checks and balances through the creation of welfare associations and trade unions. As the leader of a trade union, Singh starts misusing his position and power by turning it into a mafia organisation. The labourers are threatened into giving a substantial portion of their income to Ramaadhir's henchmen. Singh encourages the labourers to dip the coal ores into water to show a constant production while he sells the hidden portion of the coal production in the black market.

Circa Early and Mid 1970s

A mature Sardar Khan (

Sardar and his kin start hijacking Ramaadhir's coal trucks mid transit. Due to nationalisation, the govt takes ramaadhirs coal mines and hands it over to Coal India. SP Sinha, the chief of Coal India, that oversees the coal production is confronted by JP Singh demanding an answer for the partial payments. Sinha informs that the coal trucks have not been reaching their final destination. Not knowing that Sardar has been robbing his trucks, Ramaadhir suspects the foul play to Sinha and murders him. Post Sinha's murder, Ramaadhir starts being feared by everyone in Dhanbad.

A pregnant Nagma Khatoon confronts Sardar Khan and a prostitute inside a brothel and chases him away. Later, nagma gives birth to Danish but gets pregnant immediately afterwards. Unable to have sex with a pregnant Nagma, Sardar confesses his sexual frustrations with his kins. At dinner, Nagma gives her consent to Sardar to sleep with other women but with the condition that he won't bring them home or dishonour the family name.

Asghar joins his transport business with JP singh on a contractual basis where the later finances the fuel. Sardar becomes the driver of JP Singh while Asghar sells the fuel in the black market. JP Singh gets elected as a minister and uses his influence to open five petrol pump stations on his relatives name. Sardar, Farhan and Ashgar rob one of these petrol pump stations and escape. Later, the trio hijack and rob two train bogeys destined to Ramaadhir Singh. Sardar illegally usurps Ramadhir's land leading and forces Ramaadhir to confront him for talks. The trio leave taking Ramaadhir's umbrella with them which he had forgotten in Shahid's house back in the 1940s with intentions to reveal their true identity as avengers of Shahid's murder.

The meeting between Sardar and Ramaadhir ends in a scuffle with the later realising that Sardar Khan is in fact the son of Shahid khan who Singh killed a long time ago. Ramaadhir releases his anger on JP for being careless in employing a sworn enemy. Sardar and Asghar are sent for jail time for hitting JP. Ramaadhir singh confronts Ehsaan Qureshi for lying to him about the execution of Shahid's family in the 40s.

Circa Early 1980s

The

Asghar is eating a samosa on the streets when a Jeep with four drunks pass by him and kidnap a girl from wasseypur. Sardar Khan takes a rally through Dhanbad warning the people and Ramaadhir Singh of terrible consequences if the girl is not returned safe. Singh confronts JP and orders him to find out who the kidnappers were. After a wide search, the four men and the girl are finally located. Two men are executed while the other two are set free by JP. The girl returns home and informs that two of her kidnappers were still free. Sardar khan tracks the other two men of which one is a Hindu and the other is a Muslim. He brutally kills the Hindu in front of his Muslim friend. The remaining lone kidnapper is forced to marry the girl he kidnapped at a Mahr of one lakh which is paid by Ramaadhir Singh. Meanwhile, Farhan starts doing contractual business with the coal mines by providing river sand he steals in the night. By now, Sardar Khan has successfully driven out the Qureshi clan from Wasseypur through relentless bombings of their localities and has become the prime mafia don and the most feared man in whole of Dhanbad. With too many random individuals selling coal in the open market, Sardar shifts his business focus from coal to stealing iron ore. Danish khan joins in the family business who uses homeless kids to assemble scrap metal from all over the region. A failed attack from Sultan Qureshi leaves Danish with a minor injury and Sardar fumed. In the hospital, Sardar and Nagma meet and reconcile. Sardar finds Ramaadhir and warns him of terrible consequences if anything ever happens to a member of his family.

An enraged Durga doesn't approve of Sardar's proposal of living together with Nagma and tells him to get lost. A mature Faizal Khan with a disturbed childhood watches and weeps in a movie theatre themed on motherly love. His attention is caught by a girl in the theatre who seems familiar. Faizal becomes seriously addicted to Bollywood movies as he starts behaving, talking and dressing like Bollywood characters.

Sardar asks Danish to meet a person called Yadav in Varanasi who sells automatic guns for two lacs cheap. Faizal interrupts and offers to go instead of Danish. In Varanasi, Faizal buys six guns from Yadav while the later leaves immediately. Faizal inscribes his initials "FK" on one of the guns with the door keys. While returning to Dhanbad in a train, a team of police officers board the compartment and start interrogating Faizal about his whereabouts. They find the guns in Faizal's bag and send him to jail.

Sardar watches a duo of amateur men rob the Allahabad Bank at gun point. At home, Danish and Sardar agree that crime was no longer limited to large criminal organisations. They agree to legitimize their business by seizing a lake belonging to a local temple and charge a commission on fish sellers who make a catch in that lake. After attending a prayer at the mosque, Danish approaches a Qureshi man and suggests making peace between the two families. Ehsaan Qureshi also agrees and decides to rid the two families of animosity by getting Danish Khan married to Shama Parveen.

Meanwhile, Faizal gets released from jail and meets Yadav yet again to buy guns. Yadav puts the guns on the table while Faizal picks one of the guns for inspection. Faizal gives out a repressed shock when he finds his initials "FK" on the gun revealing to him that the police and Yadav had orchestrated his arrest during his last trip to Varanasi. Faizal kills Yadav with the gun, still unknown to him that Yadav is the same guy who had killed his grandfather in the late 40s. In the return train, Faizal hides the guns in the roof of the toilet compartment so when the police arrives to check him, they find nothing. Faizal returns at a later date and retrieves the weapons from the roof.

Transport

The total length of roads in Uttarakhand is 28,508.58 km in which national highways contribute 1,327.60 km and state highways contribute 1,542.78 km.^[15] State Road Transport Corporation (SRTC) which has also been reorganized in Uttarakhand as "Uttarakhand Transport Corporation" is a major constituent of transport system in the state. The Corporation which began to work on 31 October 2003, provides services on interstatel as well as nationalized routes .As of 2012, approximately 1000 buses are being plied by "Uttarakhand Transport Corporation" on 35 nationalized routes along with many other non nationalized routes. Uttarakhand has railway tracks with a total length of about 345km.[15]The railways, being the cheapest mode of transport, is most popular.The most important railway station in Uttarakhand is the one at Kathgodam which is 35 kilometers away from Nainital. The last terminus of broad gauze line of North East Railways is Kathgodam railway station. This railway station connects Nainital with Delhi, Dehradun and Howrah. Other famous railway stations of Uttarakhand are at Lalkuan and Haldwani.Dehradun Railway Station is a railhead of the Northern Railways.^[19]

• Khalid Mohammed in Hindustan Times gave it 3.5 and concluded that, "Granted Oye..oye has its downers but at least it has the guts to be zany-`n’-zappy. Way to balle balle, thumka maar ke. ... Manu Rishi, as the sidekick, is the surprise packet; he was also responsible for the dialogue that’s as delicious as chicken tikka. And you once again get lucky with Abhay Deol. This actor knows his acting mutton chops and does justice to a succulent role."^[21]
• Reviewer Noyon Jyoti Parasara too gave the film 3.5 out of 5 and expressed, "Oye Lucky! Lucky Oye! is one film which is going to leave you delighted. Although the ending is debatable. OLLO is well directed and
  friend. Special mention is deserved by Manjot Singh, who plays the younger Lucky. Enjoy this one along with popcorns or coffee. The extra money spent will be justified!"^[22]
