Thanks for pointing out the spelling inconsistencies. I have standardised it. The one in the Infobox is correct. If there still is a mistake, you can correct it please. You can move K.M.Panikkar as mentioned. Earlier I had an idea that the page had to have the full name and so I developed it like that. I will be happy if some one can add more content to that page. Great catch! Actually, I used Wisden 2006 (their cut-off is about 53.00 if I remember rightly); their footnote about Headley made me assume he was the only close shave - obviously a mistake! Kambli arguably got closer to qualifying for their list than Headley! I suppose I'd better alter the article to use Wisden's 10,000-run cut-off, and add Headley and Kambli as footnotes. The thing about the 57.3 overs unchanged in Kanpur which amuses me is that Davidson mentioned it his chapter "The Value of All rounders" in Pollard's coaching/history book. Davidson said that was the value of being fit that you can bowl so much in 100+ Fahrenheit but he didn't tell us that he was bowling spin. I'm afraid I don't know who the earliest non-white player might have been but it wouldn't surprise me if it turned out to be someone in the 18th century as the gentry in those days selected whoever would win the wager. The Duke of Richmond in his judiciary capacity was noted for his hard line against anyone caught smuggling and yet he was quite happy to take to the field with notorious rogues like Robert Colchin and Edward Aburrow. If Richmond or Gage or Dorset happened to have a manservant from the West Indies who bowled well in practice, you can bet they picked him to play when the stakes were down.

On the subject of Aloysius Pereira, are you sure he was a native Indian? Pereira is a Portuguese name so he might have been from a colonial family.

All very uncertain, Tintin. Quite often it says in contemporary advertisements that wickets will be pitched at one or at two (in one it amusingly says precisely between one and two!). I'm not convinced they had set meal break times but they did play till a certain hour by the local church clock and again the chosen hour was variable. On average, I would think they did play for six hours in a day, but that is a best guess. I'm having trouble getting Cricket Archive to work this evening, but the match is here. The batsman was Samuel Hill-Wood of Derbyshire and Burnup was the bowler, so it must have been Derbyshire's second innings. I'm not clear what the "net" system of scoring was: do you know? A.N. Hornby got 10 off a ball from Street of Surrey in Lancashire v Surrey in 1873: those are the only two instances in first-class cricket of 10 from a single ball. There are 11 instances of nines, including an all-run nine in 1842. C.C.C. (Box) Case of Somerset got an all-run six and an all-run five in the same over from Percy Fender in 1925. I dont think u might have heard abt valiya mundakkal family who had fought with kollam rani to stop the invasion of travancore kings towards venad.(even I head only thru vamozhi) Also i dont think it has any refernce in the state manual abt Melathil tharavad of kanyakumari who has given shelter to Marthanda varma when was in exile.

I am not here to Question the authenticity of state manual.

If you don’t like one particular section of the society or if you belong to particular society, you can manipulate history in any way to degrade/promote that section’s interest. That might have happened State manual also.

• Good explanation for spelling confusion. Hills are mostly in Tamil Nadu so stick with Anaimalai, see: anai (āṉai), yanai, an elephant. Well, I don't know much about the project either. All that I know about the movie is what I've read on Wikipedia over the past few months. I decided to get involved last week cos I felt that the article was overtly long and required cleanup - spelling, grammar, image tagging, image alignment, references, etc. That's all. IMO, it'd be OK. Appears to be an Australian Government photo (tour was sponsored by the gov't) which means that copyright expired 50 years ago. Alas for the great Alan Davidson, the US-Australia Free Trade agreement which came into effect in 2005 changed the picture regulations. Pre 1955 pictures expired in 2005 and were allowed to be used, but the law is now that anything during and after 1955 follows the 70 yrs after death rule. Which leaves us in trouble, since basically all pics of Davidson are post 1955. There is only one exception in his autobio, that of a side on bowling action which is clearly of an 18 yo kid (would be 1948 roughly) which isn't very easy to see, and some other Sheffield Shield team photo which is really small. :(....my favorite post war cricketer and one of the greats isn't likely to pass FA since most drive-bys who don't follow the topic usually cite entertaining pics as the #1 criteria....Blnguyen (bananabucket) 02:41, 28 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I don't know how I made the mistake about the 1940-63 one. I originally did a search at Amazon to get the details. Either they had an error in their listings or I had a mental blackout. The last of the four is no longer shown at Amazon, it seems. There were a number of other anthologies, but I tried to avoid those that were just compilations of two or more of the original ones. Hi i have been contributing to Billava and Koti and Chennayya article for sometime. And i only created the article Koti and Chennayya. I have added following content

"The Tulu term Garadi is derived from Kannada word Garodi which means gymnasium."

But this has been changed by the user:User:Gnanapiti tactically. He has reverted this edits by multiple times. So as warning i have added a edit summary "Stop vandalism. Dont remove referenced content. if you conflicting opinion. please discuss it" to both the articles when i made last edit.

He again reverted this edit with following edit summary "What's wrong with you? I'm removing anything. I'm just fiuxing the reference format for god's sake. This is the way you reference something. Not by giving external link. Do you even check the diff?"

But he tactically removed following content. "The Tulu term Garadi is derived from..."

He has removed many refernced content from Billava article also. Then i explicitly provided the extenral ref.

Now he has been kept threatening template in talk page -- a personal attack template.

have i done some personal attack by providing the edit summary as mentioned earlier? Also please help me to maintain the article with authenticated content as the user is removing t5he content without any discussion....please keep an eye on both the artciles

In Alan Gibson's "The Cricket Captains of England" he says: After the First World War, Ranjitsinhji was elected Chancellor of the Indian Princes, and as such was a member of the Indian delegation to the League of Nations. He appointed Fry as his adviser, and as Ranji did not usually stay in Geneva very long, Fry often became a de facto representative of India, and impressed everyone very greatly with his linguistic fluency and majestic manner, even those who had not heard of cricket. Albania, a snall, newly-independent state, was looking for a king, pereferably an Englishman, and so Fry's name came up for consideration (by no means, it must be said, the only one).

I mentioned this story, which has often enough appeared in print, in an article in The Times some years ago, and it led to an interesting correspondence. There was one school of thought which maintained that no such offer had ever been made: that it was all a leg-pull by Ranji. Duleepsinhji... was cited in support of this view. But there was powerful evidence to the contrary, notably from Professor LF Rushbrook Williams, who succeeded to Fry's post in Ranji's service some years later. What happened, said Professor Rushbrook Williams, was that during the 1920 session of the League, at Geneva, an Albanian bishop had called on Ranji and Fry to intimate that if a candidate could be found who was ready to spend £10,000 a year in Albania, the crown would be at his disposal.

Fry was tempted, and believed that if he had pressed Ranji for the money, Ranji would have found it, but Ranji did not want to lose his services. Nevertheless, Rushbrook Williams concludes, "the provisional offer was undoubtedly given an airing, and it did not emanate from Ranji in the first instance."

A little later one of CB's daughters, Faith, who had been abroad and missed the correspondence, at the time of its publication, wrote to me and fully confirmed this account of what was known in the family, irreverently, as 'The Albanian Affair'. "I have never understood," she said, "why there have been so many variations on this theme, but they much amused my father!!"

This seems conclusive enough, though I could not help thinking that the variations on the theme possibly owed something to the central character himself, who liked to recount the tale, and, like all good raconteurs, would sometimes imaginatively elaborate a detail.

There is no need to doubt that the event is quite possible. Lord Headley, a British peer who had been converted to the Muslim religion, was approached; and ultimately it went to the unfortunate King Zog...

A business partner of Fry's, Christopher Hollis, wrote to me, in connection with the later versions of this story, that CB 'had a great capacity for living a fantasy life.' He went on, 'It pleased him to tell the story, and by the end I fancy that he did not know himself whether he believed it or not.' While one does not doubt the truth of this, it would be a mistake to think that Fry was a fantasist, in the sense that Walter Mitty was.
