Hmm... From a quick search, there appears to be little to no references regarding this historian. He may not meet WP:NOTE. It is not said that often in the States and when it is you know something has gone terribly wrong. I am a respectable Greek Cypriot journalist who has written thousands of articles in various newspapers and magazines during the last 50 years, and who gained a lot of prizes for his objective and well-written writing. It is not always necessary for one to mention all the sources one/he is based on writing an article. For a good writer the best documented evidence is the evidence accepted by courts, namely, evidence from written official filed documents, evidence from eyewitness evidence and evidence given by respectable interviewd people. Good evidence is also given by photographs, but courts don't accept them, unless direct evidence cannot be presented. For example, we cannot take the scene of an event and present it before court. In such a case, photographs of the scene are admissible. I have tried to write some articles in the "WIKIPEDIA", with a good faith, after I had noticed that many of the articles written in Wikipwedia about Cyprus and Cypriot People are erroneous or completely unnotable. For example, you edit stories about persons who were good football players in their village or town, but nothing more, and ignore noteable people who were or are very well-known by everybody in Cyprus, "even by our stones". All my articles in Wikipedia are labelled "not noteable", "badly written" etc. For example, my article about the most famous athlete of Cyprus, who is at the same time a recognized scientist and writer (far better than me or anybody else) was rejected as "not noteable" Not notable this person? [As far as I know, this person has ben nominated by University professors for a Nobel Prize - But, please ignore this because nominations are secret and I don't want to reveal my source]. Then who is noteable? Also, my last article "The History of the Cyprus Olympic Committee" was labelled, if I remember well, as "badly written". If you mean that I am not using effectively the English language, then you can feel free to rewrite it. English is not my native language. If you mean that the article does not meet the criteria of a good article,the only thing I can say is that two months ago I published the same article as part of a book titled "Medals won by the Cyprus Republic in important International Games". The book has sold till now 50000 copies. The sale of 50000 copies in a small island of 750000 population, such as Cyprus, shows that the book (and the articles in it were good to read. Last night I noticed in the Greek Wikipedia an article about the Geography of cyprus. It was only a few lines, but completely erroneous. I sat about three or more hours writing a full version about the geography of Cyprus. By the way, let me later have a look in it. Have they deleted it too? The question is. I agree with you and removed the adjective "positive." I've also added the European Commission's 2832nd conclusions to back the claim that Open Access presents challenges ahead. I'd also like to add that a movement to or away from Open Access publishing determines the fate of an insane amount of money for research institutions everywhere as well as deciding the fate of the nature of the science communication system itself (see a.o. the so-called Houghton reports by economist John Houghton and his team).[1]. Hence, organisations with some impact on all this is worthy of notability in my view. I thank you for your helpful comments so far, but I do feel that calling it 'advertising' is a little unfair. Weak keep. I have some issues with arguments made by others: A. "longevity does not, in itself, confer notability". Not true, longevity confers exceptionalism and when a person reaches a certain threshold, they become notable for their uniqueness. Whether Mr. Taggart lived long enough to reach the "notability" threshold is another issue. He did not reach age 110, but it could be argued that he was notable as the "oldest man in Scotland." In this case, ordinal position may help his case. B. "One event" rule. I believe this is made so that, for example, a witness to a fire is not notable, even if mentioned in multiple reliable sources. In this case, Mr. Taggart was noted prior to his death (the already existed) and most of the coverage occurred prior to death. Therefore, it cannot be said to be "one event". C. "there are no links to other articles." Actually, there are. Click on British centenarians and there are similar articles such as Alfred Anderson, Wilfred Baker, and the like.Ryoung122 23:18, 14 August 2009 (UTC)
Finally, individual articles provide a level of human interest, such as oral historians seek to record. Someone who is 109 can tell us, firsthand, what the world was like before even WWI started. Biographies, even if brief, go beyond the temptation to simply turn people into stats alone, and also provide the basis for further research (should a case be extraordinary). No one is going to argue that Jeanne Calment is not notable or a "one event" person. The question is, where do we draw the line? Let's suppose we generally use the idea of 110+ worldwide, with sufficient media coverage. That could be augmented for situtations such as "oldest twin" or, in this case, oldest man or woman of a particular country/nation. Of course that gets into the argument about whether Scotland is just a sub-unit of the UK, but it is obvious that the UK is a special case: the United Kingdom was created by a personal union, where the monarch of Scotland was also the monarch of England, and so the two became fused into one entity. The recent re-creation of a Scottish parliament, however, suggests devolution (the USSR and Yugoslavia broke up along ethnic lines).
