Task forces

There have been two new task forces started within the WikiProject to coordinate major topics.

Sweden Ice Hockey task force

This task force was initiated by

Featured article status. It covers all Swedish clubs, leagues and competitions and associated articles, players and coaches that are Swedish, or have played/coached for a Swedish club, and arenas in Sweden. They plan to eventually operate as a sort of a sub-project, which will have its own articles for creation, ranking importance and quality of articles, and co-ordinate article improvement. Its current members are Krm500, Bamsefar75, and CLAES

New Jersey Devils task force

This task force was initiated by

Featured Topic status. Although it currently meets the required article count, the task force wishes to improve it further. Its area of coverage is very similar to the Sweden Ice Hockey task force. Its members are Bsroiaadn, JHMM13, FutureNJGov, Sportskido8, Michael Greiner, JRWalko, and Soxrock

Article assessement completed

On July 12, Kaiser matias announced that he had completed assessing all the articles with a {{ice hockey}} tag, sorting them into Category:Unassessed Ice Hockey articles. Kaiser matias has ranked about 9000 articles in that category, and most were stubs, and "have no information at all", according to him. Everybody is encouraged to expand the stubs into real articles. This effort took around 5 months. A big thanks goes to Kaiser matias from me and all the project.

Fair Use Info for 180_ZX_Spectrum.png

I have added information on the page for 180 ZX Spectrum.png as to explain why I believe the image should be used for fair use. Pleased read it and understand my view, please note that I am what you could call a "virgin" on this topic, so any parts that seem "off-colour" to you, I can only apologise.
As crazy as it sounds, making screenshots from various emulators is one of my favourite things to do in life and I have had the pleasure and honour, to share my "hobby" on various websites, such as arcadehistory.com and worldofspectrum.com, and I felt that Wikipedia would be a new chapter. However, there seems to be a problem with that and for that, I can only apologise.
I have been aware that all images needed to contain a "fair-use rationale", however I decide to copy (yes I'm a copycat) other examples of video game screenshots and followed that lead, (if you can't beat 'em, JOIN 'EM) in which most of them, contained what you saw on 180. Another reason was pure and simple, I thought "what the heck do I type", so I ultimatley decided to "leave it and hope for the best", in which now for the third time my ass has been bitten for this very same reason. (Oh oh, three strikes and you out right??)
You know I've typed this before but I can only offer you my fullest apologises (well I am a softy after all) and hope you can understand my view of this situation. However, understanding you are American, sometimes reading British English isn't always a piece of cake so I hope you understand everything.

Sorry, I just saw your reply - I appreciate your contributions, and it looks like the images can be easily justified. To avoid further messages, I would look back through your upload log and make sure the images you have made and contributed have a rationale. Oxford Wikimania 2010 and Wikimedia UK v2.0 Notice

Hi,
As a regularly contributing UK Wikipedian, we were wondering if you wanted to contribute to the Oxford bid to host the 2010 Wikimania conference. Please see here for details of how to get involved, we need all the help we can get if we are to put in a compelling bid.
We are also in the process of forming a new UK Wikimedia chapter to replace the soon to be folded old one. If you are interested in helping shape our plans, showing your support or becoming a future member or board member, please head over to the Wikimedia UK v2.0 page and let us know. We plan on holding an election in the next month to find the initial board, who will oversee the process of founding the company and accepting membership applications. They will then call an AGM to formally elect a new board who after obtaining charitable status will start the fund raising, promotion and active support for the UK Wikimedian community for which the chapter is being founded.
You may also wish to attend the next London meet-up at which both of these issues will be discussed. If you can't attend this meetup, you may want to watch Wikipedia:Meetup, for updates on future meets.

Paco forever

Hi, I've got your compliments on my contribution to the Paco Menendez article. I came here to reply something like "you're welcome" but I stumbled upon your user boxes :-). How come a 25 year-old get to know Paco? I was there when La Abadia Del Crimen was the best game around, playing it on my MSX 1.0 machine (a Hot Bit from the Brazilian company Sharp)... But you were not even in your teens!!! Its nice that the new generation get to know and pay respect to those great programmers like Paco that did the impossible by using more creativity than resources to build great games!!! Of course, some people from that time are still creating AMAZING games, and the one I pay the utmost respect is Hideo Kojima... I still remember the first time I played Metal Gear on the MSX.... The

" by a record breaking total of 387 points.

Following Norway's win, the Eurovision Song Contest 2010 will be held in Oslo and take place between May 25 and 29, 2010.

F. Y. R. Macedonia is threatening to withdraw from the 2010 Contest
with the reasoning that it has come tenth twice in successive years in the semi final stage, but has failed to proceed to the final in both instances.

More than a dozen countries have already confirmed their participation for the 2010 Contest. The countries confirmed so far can be seen here.

Tajci all participated. The Wikipedia Signpost covered the interviews in its May 25 issue. The interviews were translated into nine languages (Spanish, French, German, Dutch, Swedish, Norwegian, Polish, Russian, Ukrainian
), marking the largest translation effort Wikinews has undertaken.

TROS will be the new broadcaster for the Netherlands as NOS has withdrawn.

Welcome to the tenth edition of the WikiProject Eurovision Newsletter!
This month was a very busy month in terms of editing and adding to Eurovision 2009 articles. The 2009 contest is now over but there is still much work to be done.
Some Country in ESC 2009 pages are yet to have their "At Eurovision" sections updated. Some countries need more information than others, e.g. Slovenia's article needs to mention that the song was actually sung in Slovenian and English, and not just English like in the official mp3, etc.
Work has begun on the 2010 contest article already. Please do not add sections to the article about confirmed participants or withdrawn participants unless you have a source!

Alexander Rybak article improvement

Hear, hear. Thank you for deleting that unsourced piece about Alexander Rybak unable to play the violin. I should tell you that it kind of freaked me out a little bit reading it. Well when I read it the first thing I notice was that there were no references, such a claim requires a reference. I went to Google News, Yahoo! News, Sky News, BBC News and found nothing so I took it as vandalism so I removed it. if you would like to help reassess articles in our project if you see that they have outgrown their current assessment.

Following recent disputes relating to sourcing in Eurovision articles, an RfC has been opened on the issue at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Eurovision#RfC on reliable sources for Eurovision articles. The dispute particularly focuses on use of ESCToday and Oikotimes as sources in articles. The RfC is suffering from lack of participation; all project members are encouraged to state their opinion.

Project members are reminded that text and images in articles must follow Wikipedia's copyright policies. Text must not be copied out or copied and pasted into articles from websites whose material is not under a Wikipedia compatible free license. Fully copyrighted text includes that from the EBU (Eurovision.tv), ESCToday, and Okiotimes. Images must also not be uploaded onto Wikimedia Commons for use in Eurovision articles unless they are under a free license, this does not include most images on the internet or TV screen shots even if they were taken by the uploader. Copyrighted images may be uploaded onto the English Wikipedia (not Commons) for use in Eurovision articles if a valid claim of fair use can be made, note that the criteria are strict.

Kiev. Russia will be represented by 11-year-old Ekaterina Ryabova with the song "Malenkiy prints", while host country Ukraine will be represented by Andranik Alexanyan

Junior Eurovision Song Contest became a Good Article (GA).

Portugal in the Eurovision Song Contest 2008 and Norway in the Eurovision Song Contest 2008 were declined GA status on the grounds of sourcing issues.

David D'Or was also declined GA status but was granted B-class status, it was previously C-class.

Switzerland in the Eurovision Song Contest 2008 has been demoted to C-class following a good article reassessment. There was opposition to the proposed demotion, but the decision has not as of yet been directly challenged.

Welcome to the eleventh edition of the WikiProject Eurovision Newsletter!
Things are beginning to quiet down now that the
2009 Eurovision Song Contest is behind us, which is the project's busiest time of year. A few of us however still had to slow down during this period, including myself, as May and June also happens to be exam season in multiple parts of the world. There is much still to be done in any case with preparations for the 2010 Song Contest now well under way, and the host city, Oslo
, now confirmed.
There are several items that this project needs to debate including choices of sourcing and what contests come under the banner of this project. The first of these items is already being addressed at a new RfC (see left). Further ideas that could be developed include creation of some article guidelines for Eurovision articles. This could start as an advisory essay and then later, if consensus permits, become an official Wikipedia guideline. Examples of these already in existence include

Luara Hayrapetyan will represent Armenia in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2009 with the song "Barcelona" following her win at the 11 July national final.

Two months after the 2009 Contest ended, the EBU revealed the full jury and televoting results for each country on its website. The results showed that Norway was the winner of both the jury and the televoting, while many placings would have changed had no jury voting taken place.

Georgia announced its return to the Contest, while the Czech Republic will withdraw from the 2010 Contest.

STV announced plans for Slovakia's participation in the Eurovision Song Contest 2010, with songs submitted for the national final now allowed to include choruses in English.

Welcome to the twelfth edition of the WikiProject Eurovision Newsletter!
It has been a very slow couple of months in terms of Eurovision news since the passing of the 2009 Contest, however, it has been a very busy time for guidelines and policies affecting our project. Landmark decisions have been made regarding our use of sources and even how we are to refer to Macedonia. In addition, several of our Good Articles have been delisted as part of a task force charged with maintaining the quality of Wikipedia's Good Articles.
With there being less information to add and therefore less to do for some, we need to focus on the upkeep and quality of our project's articles and getting those inactive members active once again. We can do this by making sure all new guidelines and naming policies are adhered to and by working to move articles up the
quality scale
. We are a WikiProject and we all work towards a similar goal. Introduce yourself to your fellow members and get active!

There has been some discussion on if a monthly newsletter is viable. The current result is not clear, though it appears for the time being months will simply be skipped as necessary when project activity is low.

There has been a heated debate on how to deal with criticism and controversy in Eurovision Song Contest article, with a proposal made to re-organise articles to avoid dedicated "controversy" and "criticism" sections in order to have maximum neutral point of view policy compliance.

As a result of continued coverage on Azerbaijan-Armenia relations and its impact on the Eurovision Song Contest a new dedicated article on the issue has been created at Armenia–Azerbaijan relations in the Eurovision Song Contest. Discussion about the article name occurred at Talk:Eurovision Song Contest 2010#Suggestion on azerbaijan-armenia conflict.

Eurovision News

23 countries have confirmed their participation in the 2010 Eurovision Song Contest. This includes the confirmed return of Georgia, and the confirmed withdrawal of the Czech Republic.

The RTL Group has declared that they are seriously considering a return of Luxembourg to the Eurovision Song Contest for 2010.

Azerbaijan's participation in the 2010 Eurovision Song Contest has been put in doubt following controversial actions which are believed to have occurred after the 2009 Contest. Azerbaijan has denied that any questioning of individuals over voting in the contest has occurred.

A return of the orchestra has been proposed for the 2010 Eurovision Song Contest with Jan Fredrik Heyerdahl of the Norwegian Radio Orchestra declaring interest in participating.

Norway in the Eurovision Song Contest 2008 has been nominated for GA status but is on hold with many improvements still required for GA status.

Eurovision Song Contest has been demoted to B-class from FA due to various issues highlighted in a long discussion.

Welcome to the thirteenth edition of the WikiProject Eurovision Newsletter!
August 2009 will not be remembered as a good month for WikiProject Eurovision. The number of this newsletter might have something to do with it, other possible explanations include circumstances, time of year, and even just coincidence. In any case we have had no new members and no further GA or FA article promotions.
The demotion of Eurovision Song Contest, probably the most important article on the project, was a historic blow. Reasons for this and other demotions in recent months include an inflation of article standards, article deterioration through inappropriate edits, and possibly inappropriate promotions in some cases.
We should remember however that despite these demotions we still have 2 FAs, 9 GAs, and 41 B-class articles, as well as 2 Featured Lists. This is a big achievement for a project with only 75 members, a small amount compared to other projects. To compare WikiProject Schools has 292 members with no newsletter, and WikiProject Video games has a massive 1,298 members with only a quarterly newsletter.
This project will likely be disadvantaged for a long time to come with limited membership and fluctuating activity during the year, but it will grow out of this blip.

This is the first edition of the WikiProject Eurovision newsletter in a bimonthly format. Following a discussion on the project talk page this may now become the regular format for the newsletter during the months that the project is less active.

Eurovision articles are being repeatedly targeted by
sock puppets of banned user Xtinadbest (talk · contribs), who is not allowed to edit Wikipedia. The most effective way of tackling this disruption is to have all regular Eurovision article editors looking out for sock puppets. Editors should report any suspected sock puppets sighted to Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations, more history can be found at Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Xtinadbest/Archive

A
YYYY-MM-DD (e.g. 2009-08-12 for 12 August 2009), in footnotes as at present it is only discouraged in the main article body. The proposal now seems unlikely to pass due to large levels of opposition, though it could have had a large impact on this project as the date format YYYY-MM-DD is frequently used in Eurovision for reference publication and access dates. Eurovision News

31 countries have confirmed their participation in the
international recession
hitting the budgets of many broadcasters in Europe.

Luxembourg and Monaco have both ruled out a return to the Eurovision Song Contest for 2010. A decision by San Marino on if to return or not has not yet been made.

Hungary declared it is pulling out of the Eurovision Song Contest due to the financial difficulties of the national broadcaster Magyar Televízió (MTV).

National selection details for the 2010 Contest are now available for sixteen countries. Despite the contest being over six months away, Bulgaria has already announced that the artist that will represent the country in 2010 will be Miroslav Kostadinov (who is frequently referred to as Miro).

It has been announced that the voting system used for the Eurovision Song Contest semi-finals will
juries
. This will be replaced by a more balanced 50% jury voting, 50% televoting system.

The 2009 Junior Eurovision Song Contest is scheduled to occur next month on 21 November. 13 countries are participating in the contest, while three (Bulgaria, Greece, and Lithuania) are withdrawing.

Javine Hylton was also nominated for GA status but was quickly failed due to a large number of concerns. The nominator, Judo112 (talk · contribs), was later found to be a sock puppet of a previously blocked user.

Norway in the Eurovision Song Contest 2008 was nominated for GA status and was placed on hold for almost a month. The GA nomination has now failed due to some remaining issues.

Welcome to the fourteenth edition of the WikiProject Eurovision Newsletter!
There have been quite a few updates to the 2010 Contest article since 1 September. Nine countries (Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Cyprus, Ireland, Macedonia, Malta, Poland, Serbia, and Slovenia) have confirmed their participation, and the article in general has seen many changes. Sadly, whilst some editors have been working hard to provide reliable sources, others have been less thorough and the article has had to be semi-protected again to prevent further disruption. This is a shame, as ideally anyone should be able to edit; however, the talk page is always available to bring new information to light.
The participating countries' section has also been updated to allow the inclusion of information about the language, artist and song (with an English translation as appropriate), although to date this is very much a work in progress. As news comes in, we look forward to enriching this section in the coming months—backed-up of course with sources!
No new country-specific articles have been written these past two months. If you want to add more detailed information about a country's participation in the 2010 Contest, this is the ideal way to do it, and they are very much appreciated by our readers.

Happy Christmas and new year from WikiProject Eurovision.

This is the second edition of the newsletter to be in a bimonthly format. This will probably continue at least up until the next Eurovision Song Contest when the project is more active.

Editors are reminded that some articles covered WikiProject Eurovision are subject to the biographies of living persons policy. This does not just include biography articles such as Alexander Rybak, but any article with material related to living persons. Such information is highly sensitive, and unsourced or poorly sourced material about living persons must be removed immediately. Material which may seen trivial to editors, such as a false claim of participation in a contest, can potentially be highly sensitive to the living persons involved.

Eurovision articles on this project have been repeatedly subject to a form of
hoax articles with the same editing technique. Editors are advised to look out for further disruption of this kind, as it seems to be originating from a determined individial or an organised group. More information can be found at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Eurovision#User:Cuchufleta

Eurovision News

The EBU released their participants list for the 2010 Eurovision Song Contest on 31 December 2009. 39 countries will take part. Five of these qualify directly to the final, with the 34 remaining countries each competing in one of two semi-finals (seventeen per semi-final).

Five countries have declared they will be withdrawing from the contest in 2010. The Czech Republic are withdrawing due to three semi-final failures and a lack of interest from Czech viewers. Andorra, Hungary, Lithuania, and Montenegro have all declared they are withdrawing for financial reasons.

Georgia is the only country that has declared it will be returning to the contest.

No debuts are planned either with
1FLTV having ruled out joining the European Broadcasting Union
(EBU) for December 2009. This made a debut by the country for the 2010 Contest no longer possible.

Despite the 2010 Contest being many months away countries are now actively declaring which artists and songs will be representing them at the contest. A table for this can be found at Eurovision Song Contest 2010#Participants. Nearly all of the declared participants now have dedicated entry articles.

Welcome to the fifteenth edition of the WikiProject Eurovision Newsletter!
Another decade has past for the Eurovision Song Contest. The
naughties
will probably be remembered as a decade of both success and controversy for the contest.
Televoting reached its peak in the early 2000s. This gave the contest a more democratic edge, but by 2008 it was widely believed to have made Eurovision resemble a political and geographic football match rather than a song contest. The EBU took action in 2009 by reducing televoting to having only a 50% weighting in the results of each contest.
Many new countries have joined the contest in the last decade, bringing the number of participants to a new high. Among this some countries withdrew while others returned, though one of the major missing countries, Italy, did not make a return as was hoped by many.
There was not a shortage of controversy either. Two participants
Kosovo put Eurovision in the middle of a political storm. One also cannot forget that this decade saw the introduction of two spin-off contests - the Junior Eurovision Song Contest and the Eurovision Dance Contest. It is still not fully clear on how these fit into this project, perhaps we will work that out during the tens

Eurovision News

On 7 February 2010 a draw was held to decide which semi-final of the 2010 Eurovision Song Contest each country will participate in. The draw also decided, for countries qualified straight to the final, which semi-final they will vote in.

Notable confirmed changes to the format of the Eurovision Song Contest this year include that the semi-finals will now be divided into two halves, and that voting will be open throughout each show rather than only after all entries have preformed.

Five countries have now confirmed participation in the
2010 Junior Eurovision Song Contest which is scheduled for 20 November 2010. The contest will be held in Minsk, Belarus
.

It was announced in January 2010 that the
Third Eurovision Dance Contest
has been postponed a second time. It was originally due to be held in 2009, but was then postponed till 2010, and may now not happen at all, at least within the next two years. The EBU have justified the decision by saying there has been a decline in the popularity of TV dance shows.

Welcome to the sixteenth edition of the WikiProject Eurovision Newsletter!
We're in full swing now! Although the Eurovision Song Contest is around 2 months away, this is probably one of the busiest times of the year for the WikiProject, with a whole load of semi-finals, quarter finals, heats as well as national finals to see who the country chooses to represent them at this years Eurovision Song Contest.
We now know which of the 35 countries will vote and perform in which semi-final. With the 'Big Four' and host country, Germany and Spain voting in the first semi-final and France, Norway and the United Kingdom in the second semi-final.
With 22 out of the 39 countries decided, we are just about half way through, with a whole lot more to come!
So when creating new articles about a performer or song, please remember to
add sources
either from Eurovision.tv, ESCToday or other reliable sources.
Please get involved, and contribute anything to articles whether it's a little spelling mistake or a whole new paragraph, and remember to look at the talk pages and have your say on any discussions that may be present.

There is currently a proposal to restructure this WikiProject and further define its scope. All members are strongly encouraged to comment.

is looking for editors who are willing to help publish the newsletter. Once published every month, a lack of help forced it to be published less and less often. Interested editors are welcome to suggest news, gather information, and suggest improvements.

Looking for something to do? We have a large quantity of articles tagged for clean-up. Even addressing one tag would be a great help. You can see the full list here.

Members have been joining very slowly. A good project has as many members as possible and this helps in discussions and editing so that members are not overwhelmed. If every member could invite a friend or acquaintance using our invitation template, it would make our project much more efficient. One little edit on a friend's talk page? Why not, it takes two seconds!

The membership list was recently re-organised with five usernames removed from the list due to these accounts being controlled by blocked or banned users, and to deal with cases where editors had added themselves to the list twice. Some usernames were also moved from the active to inactive list, and vice versa.

Eurovision News

The 2010 Contest was won by Germany's Lena Meyer-Landrut with the song "Satellite". The 2011 Contest will subsequently be held in Germany next year in a city and venue to be determined.

Spain's 2010 performance was stage crashed by Jimmy Jump and they were given a second chance to perform their song following the last song of the final.

Germany also became the first country to select its performer for the 2011 Contest, with Lena Meyer-Landrut set to defend her title.

Austria announced it's return to the Contest for 2011, with its last appearance being in 2007 when it placed second to last in the semi-final and did not progress to the final.

In late July,
Liechtenstein
submitted its application to join the EBU. With EBU membership, Liechtenstein would be able to take part in the Eurovision Song Contest. Managing director Peter Kölbel stated that there were "good chances" for a participation in 2011 if admittance is granted to the organization.

I apologize for the lack of a newsletter these past few months as I had gotten quite busy in life. Adding to that, the lack of group participation by editors made me feel like my efforts were a waste of time that no one appreciates.
I think it is important that we behave like a "club" of sorts and have fun editing Eurovision articles. Eurovision is a fun event and we should be able to discuss the results, talk about Contest related possibilities and work to expand knowledge of the Contest to those who may not be familiar with it. Hello,
Please note that there have been some changes to operations surrounding Eurovision articles, these being that:

Template names have now been standardised, for example Template:Countries in the Eurovision Song Contest and Template:Countries in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest have both been moved in order to be consistent. If you are planning to create a new template, please keep the standardised titles in mind.

{{WikiProject Eurovision}} now accepts importance ratings as well as quality ratings, and the project now has a formal assessment department which gives details on how to assess articles, and provides a place for contributors to request re-assessment. Feel free to add the {{WikiProject Eurovision}} template to the talk page of any new Eurovision articles you create.

The Eurovision Song Contest now has its own stub template at {{Eurovision-stub}}. Please only use this on Eurovision Song Contest stubs, with {{Music-stub}} and {{Dance-stub}} being the appropriate template for other Eruovision contests.

Eurovision News

Just in case you've been sleeping under a rock recently, "
Loreen won the 57th Eurovision Song Contest
with a score of 372 points.

The dates for Eurovision Song Contest 2013 have been announced as 14 May 2013 (semi-final 1); 16 May 2013 (semi-final 2); and 18 May 2013 (final) and will be held in Sweden. The host city is still to be announced; with Gothenburg, Malmö, and Stockholm being among the candidate cities so far.

Junior News

The tenth edition of the Junior Eurovision Song Contest is scheduled to take place on the 1 December 2012, in Amsterdam, Netherlands.

Dance Contest News

Eurovision Dance Contest - Glasgow were the hosts of the Eurovision Dance Contest 2008, and since then there have been no announcements of the contest continuing with a third edition.

Eurovision Young Dancers - The next contest is scheduled to take place in 2013 - the host city is expected to be announced towards the end of 2012.

Asiavision News

Asiavision Song Contest - After several postponements, the first contest is now scheduled to take place in the South Korean capital of Seoul; on 14 October 2012.

It is easy for editors to get into conflict with each other, and things can get very nasty on the most trivial of issues, whether that be on the language of songs, the names of certain countries, or how we deal with incidents at the contest. In such circumstances it is worth remembering one thing: we are all here to build an encyclopedia, and the contribution of Eurovision to human knowledge can only be given justice if we work together and make articles, not drama!

When creating new articles about a performer or song, please remember to
reliable sources
. If you're not sure a source is reliable enough, then ask the project for an opinion.

Remember to only add content to articles that is relevant to the article's main subject. Anything not in relation to the article may be questioned and/or subject to redirection to an article that would benefit it's inclusion. Again if in doubt, ask on the article or project talk pages for an opinion - communication is an important tool.

On the subject of communication, please make use of the article talk pages. They are a vital tool in conducting consensus talks of additions of proposed new sections and/or removal of unnecessary section. If you don't use these pages to put across your views, then you only have yourself to blame if actions are taken that you disagree with and you end up wandering into
edit warring
territory.

The 2012 season of Eurovision has drawn to a close, and we now start preparations for the 2013 edition. While things will be slow to start of with, now is the ideal opportunity to do a

Eurovision Song Contest - Sweden 2013

So far 20 countries have confirmed participation for the Eurovision Song Contest 2013, which is scheduled to take place in Sweden. Please remember to only cite reliable sources when adding countries to the article.

The host city for Eurovision Song Contest 2013 has still not been announced. Gothenburg, Malmö, and Stockholm are among the candidate cities so far.

Junior Eurovision Song Contest - Netherlands 2012

The tenth edition of the Junior Eurovision Song Contest is scheduled to take place on the 1 December 2012, in Amsterdam, Netherlands. Details about confirmed participation are slowly filtering out into the world wide web. Please cite reliable sources when including new information.

The EBU extended the submission deadline to 29 June 2012. So far only 8 countries confirmed participations, and the contest needs a minimum of eleven in order for the show to continue. Bulgaria have withdrawn.

Asiavision Song Contest - South Korea 2012

After several postponements, the first contest is now scheduled to take place in the South Korean capital of Seoul; on 14 October 2012.

Could all members please find any
reliable sources
on participants etc, so that we can consider creating an article for this event.

Eurovision Young Musicians - Austria 2012

On 11 May 2012, Norwegian, Eivind Holtsmark Ringstad, won the 16th Eurovision Young Musicians 2012, in Vienna, Austria. This is a biennial event, and the next contest will take place in 2014, with Vienna most likely to be the host nation for a fifth consecutive time.

Eurovision Young Dancers - Norway 2011

The next contest is scheduled to take place in 2013 - the host city is expected to be announced towards the end of 2012.

Eurovision Dance Contest - United Kingdom 2008

Glasgow were the hosts of the Eurovision Dance Contest 2008, and since then there have been no announcements of the contest continuing with a third edition.

The past month has been an eventful one for the project as a whole. Old dramas have closed, new ones have begun. Four articles nominated for GA review, three of them passed and promoted, with one of them making ProjectEurovision history by being the first annual contest article to ever achieve GA status. If it wasn't for the hard work and the many hours of team collaborations that we have endured on this project, then those accolades would never have been gained. Each of those article promotions are as a result of your continuous determination to be part of the best team this project has seen for a long time. There is a teamwork barnstar with this newsletter for you to cherish and you may display the award on your pages if you wish. Now we look to the months ahead and start preparations for Malmo 2013, and see if we can work to getting another annual article to GA status. Here's to you - the team of excellence.

So far 21 countries have confirmed participation for the Eurovision Song Contest 2013, which is scheduled to take place in Sweden. Please remember to only cite reliable sources when adding countries to the article.

On 8 July 2012 Malmö Arena in the city of Malmö was confirmed as the host venue for Eurovision Song Contest 2013.

Junior Eurovision Song Contest - AMSTERDAM 2012

The tenth edition of the Junior Eurovision Song Contest is scheduled to take place on the 1 December 2012, in Amsterdam, Netherlands. Details about confirmed participation are slowly filtering out into the world wide web. Please cite reliable sources when including new information.

Israel announced on 10 July 2012 that they will make their début in Amsterdam. Thus bringing the total number of confirmed participant to 9 countries so far. The contest needs a minimum of eleven in order for the show to continue. The EBU had extended the submission deadline to 29 June 2012, although no further details in regards to the contest has been released.

Project 1 - Contest by year and contest related pages involves:

A page for each year's contest

Improving/maintaining all the contest related pages in the project.

Project 2 - Contestants and songs involves:

Creating a page for each contestant and song involved in the contest.

Project 3 - "Country" in the contest involves:

Creating a page for each participating country in the contest. This will give information about a country's efforts and achievements in Eurovision.

Project 4 - "Country" in the contest "year" involves:

Creating a page for each country participating in the contest each year. This will give information about the year in Eurovision for that country, like how the song was chosen (selection events), how well it did, any other information about its participation that year.

Project 5 - Sourcing

On Wikipedia, it is very important not only to have the correct information, but to show where you got it from so it can be
verified
. Editor's should be finding additional sources to reference information with.

This project also includes checking all similar pages to make sure things are consistent across the board and correcting any errors. A listing of pages marked for some sort of cleanup is available here.

Hello,
Please note that there have been some changes to operations surrounding Eurovision articles, these being that:

Template names have now been modernised and/or megred into super-templates, for example Countries in the Eurovision Song Contest has now been merged into Template:Eurovision Song Contest making it even easier to find everything under one template. If you are planning to create a new template, please keep the standardised titles in mind. Other templates have been modernised and a full list of them can be found here.

The Eurovision Song Contest and Junior Eurovision Song Contest articles have now been standardised to keep a consitancy throughout the project and to the genral reader too. Skeleton article drafts can be found for Eurovision Song Contest by Year and Junior Eurovision Song Contest by Year.

Remember that this project can only operate if we act in a cooperative manner and engage in discussions regarding article matters. It is seen as best practice to put forward ideas to other members of the project before rushing ahead and acting on a potential falsifying action. If you feel an article may warrant a deletion, why not test the waters by opening a discussion on the article's talk page or our very own project talk page - before rushing off and submitting an AfD. It saves wasting time nominating an article for deletion which could end up with an overwhelming "keep" by other editors. Communicating with each other is a vital tool and a skill that may prove advantageous in real-life scenarios.
Also be on the look out for potential new members to the project. Post {{subst:EurovisionInvite}} (which will produced this template) on any user page you think is interested to join the WikiProject, to officially invite them to join.

ABU Song Festivals - SEOUL 2012

Our Sound: The Asia-Pacific Song Contest seems to have been indefinitely postponed. However, the Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union
(ABU) are launching their own versions; which are not to be confused with Our Sound or Eurovision Song Contest. The "cultural extravaganza" concept may be the same, but the format is completely different. The Radio Festival will be competitive, while the TV Festival is just a showcase of music so is non-competitive.

ABU Radio Song Festival 2012 - Twenty-six entries from sixteen countries took part in a preliminary selection round. Of those, fifteen have been selected and will perform in the first ABU Radio Song Festival on 11 October 2012.

ABU TV Song Festival 2012 - Thirteen countries have confirmed participation in the first ABU TV Song Festival on 14 October 2012.

A new RfC has opened at Project Eurovision in regards to how "Country by Contest" articles such as Albania in the Eurovision Song Contest, Denmark in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest and Australia in the ABU Song Festivals will be stylised.

It is important that all members of this project participate in the discussion so that we can share our views on how these articles should be presented, what content could do with being added/removed. If a consensus is reached and you have failed to participate then you only have yourself to blame if you disagreed with the layout style that has been reached.

Editor's Message

Bienvenue! Willkommen! Welcome!
The London Olympic and Paralympic games have ended, and just as their motto stated, they truly did inspire a generation. This got me thinking how could we as a project for Eurovision related material may be able to inspire the next generation of Eurovision fans? RfC discussions have already underway on the project talk page regarding article layouts, how we can better present our articles to provide a more in-depth knowledge into the contests. One such discussion in regards to layout of Contest by Year articles has already become a success, and provided the project with its first ever GA-class article. So in reality, implementing the same layout across other articles should produce the same output. A similar discussion into layout style for Country in a Contest related articles is also taking place. This project is constantly evolving as more and more editors join the team. We've redesigned the home page for Project Eurovision in a bid it entices new people to join the team. A project can't survive on stale movement, it needs evolution to add excitement to the project. So lets use October to inspire each other to do better, to work more collaboratively, and to entice the next generation of editors to the project team.
Also be on the look out for potential new members to the project. Post {{subst:EurovisionInvite}} (which will produced this template) on any user page you think is interested to join the WikiProject, to officially invite them to join.

Eurovision Song Contest - MALMÖ 2013

So far 35 countries have confirmed participation for the Eurovision Song Contest 2013, which is scheduled to take place in Malmö. Please remember to only cite reliable sources when adding countries to the article.

7 countries have announced the dates of their national finals.

Andorra, Czech Republic, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Monaco, and Morocco confirm they will not be present in Malmö.

Please can we also remember to keep this article well presented based on the layout that was agreed upon via the Project RfC. If in doubt, check Eurovision Song Contest 2012 as an example. That article is using the new layout format and gained the project it's first GA-class on annual pages. Let's maintain that high standard.

Junior Eurovision Song Contest - AMSTERDAM 2012

The tenth edition of the Junior Eurovision Song Contest is scheduled to take place on the 1 December 2012, in Amsterdam, Netherlands. 12 countries have confirmed their participation with Albania, Azerbaijan, and Israel making their début.

4 countries have already selected either a song, artists, or both. With 6 national selections taking place these next few weeks.

Azerbaijan, Israel, and Moldova have yet to announce their national selection plans.

We are almost at the end of another great Eurovision year, with preparations now well under way for the

guideline independently.
There is a lot going on at
watchlist. The current RfC on country article layout is suffering from a lack of participation - myself and others may not agree with every suggestion made, but we won't bite people's heads off, so please feel free to comment! Junior Eurovision Song Contest - Amsterdam 2012

The tenth edition of the Junior Eurovision Song Contest is scheduled to take place on the 1 December 2012, in Amsterdam, Netherlands. Twelve countries have confirmed their participation with Albania, Azerbaijan, and Israel making their début.

As the contest will be starting in the next few weeks, then the article may become subjected to vandalism from random IP accounts. Please be vigilant and revert any vandalism that you find. Thank you.

ABU Song Festivals - Seoul 2012

ABU Radio Song Festival 2012 - On 11 October 2012 the first ABU Radio Song Festival took place in the Korean capital of Seoul. South Korea won the Grand Prix award with the song "For a Rest" performed by boy band Billy Acoustie. Danielle Blakey representing Australia won the gold award with the song "Fearless", Brunei received the silver award with the song "The sweetest memory" performed by Maria Aires, with Sammy Ray Jones also representing Australia receiving the bronze award with his song "Rinet". K-Town Clan representing Malaysia received the special jury award with their song "Party Animal" and thus finished in fifth place.

ABU TV Song Festival 2012 - Eleven countries performed in the first ABU TV Song Festival on 14 October 2012. The contest was non-competitive and thus no winners.

Bienvenue! Välkommen! Welcome!
With the festive season a matter of days away and 2012 rapidly drawing to a close, I'd like to take the time to reflect on the last 12 months as a project community, and look ahead to 2013. 2012 witnessed the period when Azerbaijan got to showcase their capital city Baku to the rest of Europe. Preparations for the contest were not the smoothest ever seen, but come the day of the contest everything seemed to have knitted together OK. Concerns over the longevity of the Junior Contest were also raised when the lowest participation ever recorded. Fans worried that the contest would be brought to an abrupt end, however, with 3 new countries debuting the contest went ahead as planned.
The project also seen the start of two new contests, ABU Radio Song Festival and ABU TV Song Festival, which were both staged in the Korean capital of Seoul. The host nation won the first edition of the festival. And so we look ahead to 2013, with Sweden hosting the Eurovision Song Contest for a fifth time, and for the second time in the city of Malmö. Vietnam is expected to host the 2013 ABU TV Song Festival, with the Radio Festival having a year break, which won't be hosted again until 2014 in Australia. Details about the 2013 Junior Eurovision Song Contest are still unknown. As always, be on the look out for potential new members to the project. Ukraine won the tenth edition of the Junior Eurovision Song Contest, in Amsterdam, Netherlands, with the song "Nebo" performed by Anastasia Petryk. Twelve countries participated with Albania, Azerbaijan, and Israel making their début.

The project has yet again gained another accolade on an annual article with the ABU TV Song Festival 2012 receiving GA classification. That is now 3 within a year, with the first being Eurovision Song Contest 2012 back in July last year, and ABU Radio Song Festival 2012 being the second last month. Congratulations once again to everyone who has helped to contribute to those respective articles. Now that we're gaining high accolades, let's see if we can maintain that by continuing to work as a team.

With less than a month to go until we find out who is the winner of the Eurovision Song Contest 2013, the article itself is already looking impressive and is written with such broad scope and covering almost every piece of news in an encyclopaedic style of course. The show hasn't even started and the article is looking very much like a GA-class article. Well done everyone for helping to maintain the high standards of editing on articles as well as engaging in open discussion via the talk pages. Hopefully this should be helping to increase team moral with the project - keep up the good work folks! The ABU have announced the host city for the ABU TV Song Festival 2013 which is due to take place on 26 October 2013. Please could everyone keep a look out across the worldwide web for any news on the festival itself and update the article accordingly.
On a different note, if anyone is feeling a little bit bored and looking for things to do, then why not help to improve the articles listed below, they vary from stub articles that require expansion, to general tidy-up and additional sources required. Editor's Message

Bienvenue! Välkommen! Welcome!
Well we have a winner of the Eurovision Song Contest 2013, and the 2014 article is already up and running. However, the work on the 2013 edition is still not complete. Over the next few weeks many editors will be doing the final clean-up operation on the article, and we hope to achieve yet another GA classification on the article in the coming months. We will of course keep you all updated of the progress via the newsletter.
But if you are already starting to get Eurovision withdrawal symptoms, then don't panic. We have the
teamwork
collaborations that help to make this project a success.
As always, be on the look out for potential new members to the project. Post {{subst:EurovisionInvite}} (which will produced this template) on any user page you think is interested to join the WikiProject, to officially invite them to join.

Eurovision Song Contest - Malmö 2013

Just in case you've been sleeping under a rock recently, "Only Teardrops", by Danish singer Emmelie de Forest won the 58th Eurovision Song Contest with a score of 281 points.

Eurovision Song Contest - Denmark 2014

In what is becoming a regularity with new Eurovision articles, they are potential subjects to
vandalism
, so be on guard and revert any vandalistic edits.

Also make sure you only add verified content to the article, including countries that have confirmed.

Avoid using the term "possible debut", "possible return", and "possible withdrawal". The term possible makes us sound speculative and is prohibited per
Crystal Ball
guidelines. Any such information should be added to the "Other countries" section, with a citation for verifiability.

Junior Eurovision Song Contest - Kyiv 2013

The eleventh edition of Junior Eurovision is scheduled to take place in Kyiv, Ukraine on 30 November 2013.

Five countries have so far confirmed their participation, with Belgium having announced their withdrawal.

The second ABU TV Song Festival is scheduled to take place on 26 October 2013, in the Vietnamese capital of Hanoi. The host broadcaster will be Vietnam Television.

The article is already up and running. Your help to improve the article is gratefully appreciated. Keep a look out for news articles regarding participations etc. So far only Vietnam and Indonesia are confirmed.

ABU Radio Song Festival - Colombo, Sri Lanka 2014

ABU Radio Song Festival 2014 - The Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU) have confirmed that the 2014 Radio Festival will take place in Colombo, Sri Lanka hosted by national broadcaster MBC Networks. As it is too soon to start work on the new article, can we please try and avoid creating one. Unless of course, there's enough information out there that would warrant an early creation.

Another month has gone by and with plenty of ups and downs within this project. An RfC has been rebooted on the project talk page (see Project Alerts below for more details). The OGAE articles are undergoing a complete rewrite to make these articles look more presentable and give more encyclopaedic value to them. They were in a disastrous and neglected state previously, so it is about time they got some well needed TLC treatment given to them all.

For those of you who have got Eurovision withdrawal symptoms, then don't panic. We have the

There are a couple of discussions taking place via the
project talk page
that require urgent attention from as many members as possible. These are...

A new RfC has opened at Project Eurovision in regards to how "Country by Contest" articles such as Albania in the Eurovision Song Contest, Denmark in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest and Australia in the ABU Song Festivals will be stylised.

Also there is an urgent discussion at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Eurovision#Colour codes for last placings, which is discussing a matter in connection to chromostereopsis (blue text on red backgrounds).

And finally, the newsdesk are looking to recruit a couple of project volunteers to assist in compiling the monthly newsletters, as one of the co-ordinators has taken an indefinite period of time away from Wikipedia due to personal reasons. For more details see
