Hi friends, I notice that a new user Special:Contributions/Abeytors seems to be trying to write a page on the town of Oje-owoko but is having trouble finding the right place and formatting his information. He/she has tried to add the info to both Sepeteri and the main page. Is anyone available to chat to him/her and help? I don't know where to begin myself because I don't know anything about this town or how to find sources on it for the user. Hello and greetings from the maintainers of the WP 1.0 Bot! As you may or may not know, we are currently involved in an overhaul of the bot, in order to make it more modern and maintainable. As part of this process, we will be rewriting the web tool that is part of the project. You might have noticed this tool if you click through the links on the project assessment summary tables.

We'd like to collect information on how the current tool is used by....you! How do you yourself and the other maintainers of your project use the web tool? Which of its features do you need? How frequently do you use these features? And what features is the tool missing that would be useful to you? This year will make it exactly two years since I got elected/appointed as the coordinator of WikiProject Nigeria. My manifesto was focused on improving quality of articles and increasing the number of GA articles in our WikiProject.

However, shortly after the appointment, I had a medical issue that got me hospitalized for quite a while, after I fully recovered it dawned on me that there was a lack of consistent editors interested in Nigerian articles, and if we must initiate successful projects, we needed to get more editors to join the team. So I tilted more towards recruitment of new editors and training of the inexperienced ones. On the advice of another WikiProject team, I also created a Twitter account, (@WikiProjectNG) to give more awareness that anyone can actually edit Wikipedia. You will be amazed to know that so many Nigerians still do not know that they literally can edit Wikipedia.

On the issue of GA, even though I wasn't able to functionally be of assistance, I'm glad that a respected member of this WikiProject, Versace1606 is in the process of getting about 4 more articles to GA level, please let's assist him in whatever way we can. It doesn't matter who does it, the most important thing is that our GA articles is on a increase. On the platform of WikiProject Nigeria and AfroCine, I also virtually trained some young Nigerians (mostly university students) on contributing to WikiData (by November we should start with Wikipedia). Collectively, the state of our sporting (especially women) and higher institution articles can also be said to be better than it was when I was elected (this was one of my fulfilled campaign promises).

Finally, I believe I was elected for one year, which is expired, I will be glad to handover to someone else with fresh ideas, but if no one is interested, I will be more glad to continue. Above all, I am open to suggestions and new ideas. I believe that by working together we can improve the state of contents central to this WikiProject.

Long live Nigeria, Long live Wikipedia.. Long live WikiProject Nigeria...

Kudos on your efforts on this Wikiproject so far. You tried your best and it shows. I also think that the biggest hindrance to covering enough topics on Nigeria and Africa as a whole, is the very few number of people contributing from the country/continent. Which is why even myself have been quite focused on getting more genuine people to contribute, and when that happens, also protecting them from being chased away through hostile attitudes. So, I think you are very right and you did well by trying to get more people involved. Please take a look at the article Etche. There is edit warring about whether the Etche people should be considered a subgroup of the Igbo, or not. I don’t see any sources being provided on either side. I have semi-protected the article, which had the effect of shutting down the “not a subgroup” arguers who tend to be IPs, but it was not my intention to take a side. Nile University of Nigeria (NUN) is a private university located in Abuja, Nigeria. The University was established in 2009. At the time of formation, NUN had three faculties (Arts & Social Sciences, Engineering, and Natural & Applied Sciences) and 93 students. Permit me to say that the 'corruption allegation' section should be taken down. It appears like there is a prejudice, if not an agenda, to have those one-sided claims on that page. A more balanced post has been put up a number of times to replace it but some persons keep taking it down. As for the Transparency International claim, it was quoted out of context. If I may, why was the World Bank and Oxford awards given for TraderMoni not added to the Corruption Allegations? Also, the FIRS claim by Timi Frank was that the VP got N90bn but his party, the PDP claimed it was N40bn while a certain Jackson Ude claimed it was N2bn. Why the discrepancies? Its nice to still see you wikifying contents on Wikipedia after so many years. I remember you during my very very early years on Wikipedia when I was working on The Headies article. Back to the article, I agree that the article should be notable, we normally keep articles on towns such as this, but it will be difficult getting internet sources for this (same with most Nigerian towns). However, I am confident there will be significant offline sources. But I want to mention that it was not until 2014 that the community became fully autonomous from Ikeji-Arakeji, although they have been having their rulers centuries earlier, but not recognized directly by the government (only through other rulers). So I wouldn't have mind a merger with the more prominent Ikeji Arakeji if we were in 2014, but presently they are completely separate communities, so that is completely out of it. I think Wikimedia Nigeria has a thing with some public libraries in Nigeria, or if there is an active Wikimedia community in Obafemi Awolowo University, those are places who can get offline sources for this article. I will speak to someone if there is a Wikimedia community in OAU. I don't know what else I can do. Maybe some other persons have something to add? HandsomeBoy (talk) 18:27, 30 August 2020 (UTC)

I am aware that some Nigerian universities are properly digitalized, if we can come to an agreement for them to give us access to their portal or get some of them to become editors I think we could easily search the database for coverage. As it is, the only tool I have is the internet and going to a library that is close to my house. HandsomeBoy Thank you for the accurate information, Ipo Arakeji is different from Ikeji Arakeji and there is a copy of the official gazette from the State Government. Although most parts of the town was known as Ikeji Arakeji for so many years, however, the town has its own Palace and recognized traditional ruler. What do you suggest? He featured on a notable Naijaloaded Cypher that was released on 1st of January 2016, the day of the Headies Awards in the same year. It feels like there should be more out there, however Google isn't the greatest at searching non-European or American English websites. I have found some references stating that the first women (possibly three) were elected to the House of Representatives in 1979. The article on Janet Akinrinade claims she was elected to the Constituent Assembly in 1977, which would make her the first. However, I cannot find any information about the 1977 election and am wondering whether there really was a proper election, or whether delegates were indirectly elected by other bodies? I'm also a bit confused by the claim that Esan was a Senator from 1958; the source claims that this happened at the 1958 elections, but there were no federal elections in 1958 (there were in December 1959). The sources I have seen say she was appointed in 1960,[11][12] (the latter gives her appointment date as 8 January 1960, which would be more logical if she was appointed after the December 1959 elections. @Number 57: Sources suggest there were elections in 1958 and 1959, what is unclear is if hers took place in 1959 or 58 (it may be possible that for some odd reasons, her constituent election happened earlier than other regions in Nigeria). I won't also rule out the possibility of an error from references stating it happened in 1958. This sort of discrepancy in records is one of my motivations of contributing to Wikipedia. I believe Wikipedia should be used as a tool to propagate correct information even when some sources could be missing it. Secondly, I am not convinced that a legislator in 1979 will be the first. According to the scholarly article, "Women's Political Participation in State Legislatures in South West Nigeria" (2018), it says "...The first republic (1960-1965) saw only an insignificant number of women in Southeast playing prominent roles. In the Eastern house of Assembly for instance, only two women were members. Mrs Margaret Ekpo and Mrs Janet Muokelu. From 1960 - 1965, there were only two female legislators in the federal parliament and four female legislators in the whole country...". @HandsomeBoy: I'm not Timileyin Olalere but I do have some "style-related" input: Any sentence that says "... is a convicted ..." should be followed by the crime he was convicted of, or possibly a layman's term for the crime if the actual charges are in "legalese." "Convicted [nationality] entrepreneur" is confusing, "... is a convicted [criminal charge] and entrepreneur from [nation]" or "... Initially, I wanted to ignore and will still do, but since you are here I would just love to know what you think just for enlightenment purposes or in case of another similar situation in the future. Maybe I am just being too careful, but I think before Wikipedia categorizes someone as a fraudster alone as the intro lede, there should be more than what I am currently seeing as in the case of Invictus Obi. We are usually very careful with BLP articles because of potential harm to the subject. I'm not sure how a Wikipedia article could further harm someone who has pled guilty to a $11M fraud case in a U.S. federal court. The guilty plea relieves us of concern IMO; BLP protections wrt to a description as a "fraudster" seem irrelevant now. Considering that Borno State is in the Northern region who have limited internet penetration, you might not find many online sources to meet GNG. Personally, if I see such an article in mainspace, the only thing I can do is to add maintenance tags for more references and improvement. I guess my question was more along the lines of "is there anything particular about Nigerian politics that would say otherwise." Hypothetically, a nation could have "state legislatures in name only" that had no real power and whose elected members received no more press coverage than a small-town mayor would. As an analogy, in the United States, some county- and city-level lawmaking bodies are basically toothless, in others, they exercise a lot of power and, while not "automatically" meeting

They actually do. State has a high level of independence and immunity from federal. What I find troubling is that there is another prominent individual by the same name (likely a relation)1 2. WP:NACTOR, but she needs to have significant role in at least one or two more films for me to be comfortable with her being in mainspace. I might be wrong, and can understand if another editor thinks she is already notable because of her cult following, but based on existing consensus among many experienced editors on Wikipedia, participating in Big Brother Naija is not a credible claim for notability. Same reason Tacha, Efe, CeeC, Tboss are all regarded as not-notable (Some were deleted via AFD discussions. You can see this discussion for some insights Tacha Tacha2. Note that Efe won it, Erica didn't.). But in the case of Erica, even before BBN, she was already a fast upcoming actress, so I think her chances are brighter than everyone of the other nn BBN housemates that I mentioned. @BadEdithor: Depends, is it a nomination or actually winning the award? I would say winning an NEA is a good claim of notability, especially since there will be an increased likelihood that other credible sources would cover such individual, but if its just a nomination then it gets more subjective. Depends on the category, year of the ceremony, etc. While the NEAs is a notable award, its awarding process is not as thorough and critically acclaimed as The Headies. I have done an exhaustive search on the singer, and the summary of my findings is that as regards passing the requirements for

This is further emphasized since he won the "most promising act" category at the NEAs, which shows he has potential to be notable, but after assessing his musical career from then till now, I am still not convinced he is there yet. Assessing the available sources (GNG), the best sources I could find on him were all published in November 2020, which can give legitimate concerns. While he was featured in this song, the coverage gives more credence to Laycon. This starts well but it is lacking in sufficient content. This interview buttresses that he is upcoming, which is understandable since it was published in 2017. Moreso, it does not seem independent enough. This is also more about Laycon. Nigeria has conducted gubernatorial elections in 1979, 1983, 1992, 1999, 2003, 2007, 2011, 2015 and 2019. But, articles about these elections are missing on Wikipedia and this project will seek to specifically solve this problem.

• The contest is expected to run from 1st March 2021 till 31st May 2021.

• Overall winner is expected to receive a HP Laptop while the runner-up and second runner-up are expected to receive a Tecno SPARK 5 PRO and Romoss 20000 mAh Power Bank respectively.

  • Good luck with getting it sorted out. One thing that I think should be mentioned to participants is not to upload any photo of the candidates they find to Wikipedia for the infobox – any images uploaded will need to be freely available. We don't want to end up with a load of copyvios being uploaded.
  • Also, I'd suggest using a different election results template – one that shows the full party names (I don't think it's very helpful for general readers to be presented with a list of 1-3 letter acronyms) and lists the full results (invalid votes) etc. I've added one to the articles in question, which has the added advantage of doing the percentage calculations automatically.
  • To aid navigation between the articles, and to see which ones are missing, I'd recommend creating a templates for each year linking to each of the gubernatorial elections held that year – something like {{1889 United Kingdom local elections}}.
  • It might also be worth explaining what voters being 'accredited' means. I've never heard this term being used before. Is it the number of voters who arrived at the polling stations and were ticked off the list, even if they didn't cast a vote? Cheers, Number 57 17:01, 15 February 2021 (UTC)

This is a good one, very good one. I will certainly contribute, maybe not compete (due to scheduling issues), but I will contribute. Since it is an online contest, it is likely that a non-Nigerian will win the prize, I hope you considered the cost implications of that in your budget. Secondly, in the elections in Nigeria template, it'd be great if the regional elections of 1951, 1953 and 1954 is also captured in the contest but can understand if we want to keep it in scope to governorship elections only. All in all, well done! I plan to do something similar for Nigerian football, but am still gathering momentum on the right approach to take and will certainly be learning from this. Nyanardsan came across this article earlier and mentioned it on Discord, which led to a discussion trying to figure out if the flag is actually real. None of the sources currently on the page are reliable, and the only source that goes beyond a bare assertion (the crwflags.com one) is talking about a different entity. The state website doesn't seem to have the flag, and the ministers' pictures all have just the Nigerian flag behind them.

A few questions for anyone who knows:

• Is the flag currently in the article real?
• If it's fake, does the state have a different flag or no flag?
• If it's real, is there some reliable source that shows or describes the flag?

@Mx. Granger: LGAs are really a political designation that is mostly conceptual rather than an actual historical settlement. From what I can see, there is an LGA known as "Ikot-Abasi", then within that LGA there are several villages, one of which is known as "Ikot-Abasi" (notice that "Ikot-Abasi" is listed as a village in Ikpa Ibekwe clan?). If this is true, there can be a case for separate articles because while LGAs are generally notable, they tend to change overtime (depends on political climate and economical needs). But the village will always remain notable. Despite this, I will support a merge since the contents of both articles does not demonstrate their differences. It was launched in 2019 and it seems like they do it every year. While for crocodile smile, the army said it is a confidence-building patrol that seeks to reassure the people of Rivers state and the Niger Delta that the army is ready to work. Leadnow Youth Development Initiative In conjunction with the Lagos State Ministry of Education held its first ever anti-bullying campaign to mark the 2022 International Day Against Violence, Bullying At School Including Cyberbullying; perhaps the first of its kind to assume its loudest in Nigeria since its observance across the world.

The event which was held at Ikeja Grammar School had in attendance about 300 students. Guests speakers from all walks of life including the schools' counsellors and teachers as well as representatives from the Lagos State Ministry of Education.

The theme of this year's event is: Lift Each Other Up.

The theme, though borrowed from Canada where the celebration originated, is being adopted to mark this year's anti-bullying day. The theme portrays elemental significance of tolerance, love and care for young people including adults who are faced with threats of bullying, that in the face of circumstantial ordeals in which they have been maltreated and traumatised, suffered maganalisation and discrimination, they can be strengthened, and in addition, that prevention and elimination of violence and bullying related attitude is possible in our society

Speaking at the event, the initiator and the head of the youth organisation, Dr Niyi Osilaja said that the time has come now to give anti-bullying vigorous campaign and serious sensitization. Young people were asked to speak up and report bullying cases in the anti-bullying box shared and given to schools by the organisation. A book entitled: Overcoming Bullying in School - a parental, teacher and social responsibility was launched, together with Leadnow Club.

Since Sylvester Oromoni saga that took hold of the social media in 2021, which apparently caused commotion in the nation, bullying has gained a nationwide attention with Lagos State Government making a serious move against it.

On the 10th of December, 2021 Governor Sanwo-Olu led a massive campaign against bullying in schools while at the commissioning of a hostel and block of classrooms at Lagos State Model College, Ikorodu. The Governor said, "Let us all stop bullying, we would not allow bullying in any of our schools. If you are in a senior school, you are not meant to bully your junior pupils. You are meant to encourage and support them. You should never bully any students because they will also grow up to become senior students. So, say it out, if anybody is unnecessarily bullying. It is when you support each other that you will grow to become great students and citizens of this nation.” This is a social problem in our society today which remains a thing of great concern to everyone. But a quick one, instead of writing Teaching, 1978 – 1982 as a section header, I think 1978 - 1982: Academic engagements is more in line with our manual of style. You also need to limit the content to very key information, it needs to be trimmed down a bit. There are unnecessary information in the article. Then lastly and probably the most important are your references. Some sections in the article do not even have a single reference. WP:FOOTYN can be quite tense for uncapped African players. I see he was signed to Budapest_Honvéd_FC in 2020 1, but he is not listed in their squad list which makes it difficult to verify if he played for the senior team. The Hungarian elite league (Nemzeti Bajnokság I) is listed as a fully professional league, so if he has played for them, he will be worthy of a Wikipedia article. I searched for a reference that showed that he has been featured in the team but found none. Considering he was just 18 years when he signed the contract, it is very possible he was drafted to the reserve or junior team. There is also information that he recently cancelled his contract with the team 2. Finally, while the Nigerian elite league is regarded as fully professional on WP, Galadima Academy has only been part of the amateur divisions while Abacha was with them. The summary of what I am saying is that, just signing a contract with a professional team is not enough, you need to actually play for the team in a pro league to stand a chance of being notable.HandsomeBoy (talk

The article claims that it's a staple food and I'm inclined to believe the editor that wrote that, but the sourcing doesn't seem ideal to me. If "Staple Food" means a meal that is of cultural interest to an ethnic group, then I think it falls in that category. I am pretty sure similar corn meals exist in other parts of the world, but might differ in the manner of preparation. There are even packaged products in the area concerning it. I couldn't find reliable sources, but these sites provide some insight on the one by Yoruba people (i.e Egbo) 1, 2. Hello. I believe that the article about the Flag of the Republic of Benin (1967) needs actual sources, and I am afraid, that the existance of the flag might have been made up. As of now, the only source given is a list of governors of the region. It lists a photo of the flag, with no further description, nor any source for where it comes from. Additionally, I personally couldn't find any actual information about the existence of the flag. The only mention online I could find is crwflags.com. This website is a blog, and and author there doesn't states any actual sources. What is more, Commons credits that blog, as the source of the flag image. All of this, together with the fact that the Republic of Benin existed only from around 7 hours, from its announcement to its fall to Nigerian army, and the fact, that design of the flag is basically just the flag Biafra, makes me worried that the flag did not actually existed, and had been made up by somebody online. This is why I'm writing here, asking for help in finding any proper source, mentioning the flag, or, deleting this article, in case no source can be found.

I also did a search and the best I could see was Vintage News, which does not only seem unreliable, but also does not go into detail on how they verified the flag was for Benin, and looked copied from Wikipedia. Despite this, if I were to use my discretion to decide if this is a hoax or not, I will likely say it is not. I have seen this kind of scenario play itself before and it is usually a case of lack of web resources being freely available on African topics rather than a fabrication. But the risk and the damage that can be done to Wikipedia reputation is too high to take such chances, as such I will perfectly support the said article is nominated for deletion so that more eyes can be on it. I will also share this to a group of scholarly Wikipedians to see if any of them have substantial evidence to back it up. HandsomeBoy (talk) 00:13, 30 August 2022 (UTC)

Hi I’m a new page reviewer and I have some concerns about this article. A number of new articles on Ngwa-related topics appeared at once. Some are fine but I’m not sure about this one. I can’t find a single source online about a Ngwa language. Our article on Igbo language says Ngwa is a dialect of Igbo. The options are 1. Pass it as it is because it’s fine 2. Rename it to “Ngwa dialect” and pass it 3. Redirect to Igbo language 4. Something else. I’d appreciate views from members of this WikiProject on what’s best. Yes, Ngwa is one of the igbo dialects spoken in Abịa State were other dialects are spoken too like the Ubakala and Nsirimo dialects,Nigeria.It is a dialect and NGWA DIALECT is better.

@Mujinga: Thank you for answering the earlier question by Carlobunnie, it is greatly appreciated. Concerning your own query, from my little understanding of the Yoruba language, putting an apostrophe in front of "Yemi" does not make any sense but then it is her name, and she must have her reasons. I was also able to find independent sources that precedes the name with an apostrophe, so it is not a oneoff or typo. From my understanding on how Wikipedia works, I will say use the apostrophe in all occurrence of her name in her article but keep the title index without an apostrophe. Hello Ajatontiriajabale, I see it was deleted via an AFD discussion just four days ago. When an article goes through AFD, it is best you wait for several months before considering recreating it. Except you want to contest the AFD consensus (which I will not recommend). Let me also add that the notability threshold for businessmen is quite high since there is a high chance of COI. In summary, just continue to monitor sources about him. Four days is too short to recreate a previously deleted article. The entry that "The group was founded in 2012 by Nnamdi Kanu" is not correct. This organisation was founded by Nnamdi Kanu and Uche Mefor. The BBC report on 9th of January, 2023, captured the true and authentic position on paragraph 15: "Formed in 2012 by two UK-based Igbos, Nnamdi Kanu and Uche Mefor, as a peaceful movement...."( https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-africa-64110852?at_medium=RSS&at_campaign=KARANGA).Could you please correct the Wikipedia report?-----UM. Mefonna I agree with you in some way, but also disagree in some other way. And I will use an example to illustrate this. If you are asked, who is the founder of Facebook, most people will consider "Mark Zukerberg" as the most correct answer even though there were other co-founders. Based on multiple sources I have seen over the years, Nnamdi Kanu was the most significant of the founders of IPOB (I didn't even know there were others until today) so I can understand why Uche Mefor might have been overlooked in the Wikipedia article. Nevertheless, I agree with you that it should be mentioned in the article and I will do that rightaway. Wikipedia should document history exactly how it is. Lastly, let me mention that the Wikipedia article intelligently uses the term "leader", rather than "founder". There is a clear distinction between both. Uche Mafor might have been a co-founder, but is he still a leader of IPOB? I will only include his name in the infobox as a co-founder till we have sources that clearly explain his subsequent role in the organization. Thanks for bringing this up.
