Hi, you didn't seem to understand the complaint about the Psalms. The copyrighted text in question is the Judaica Press English translation. It's listed on the Chabad.org website as a separate copyright from the Chabad website's own copyright. (Can be hard to find, the notice is inside a graphic and not actual HTML text.) I do not claim expertise to know if the Hebrew text is copyrighted. I assume that it is not. But that's immaterial if the English translation is still within copyright, we can't use it. (Claim also affects dozens of other Psalm articles, see my report at Wikipedia:Copyright problems/2019 September 16 where I've listed the numbers of allll the other articles which have infringing text in them. If you can do that, then do so. The purpose of G5 deletion is to deny recognition to those that break the rules. Some of the trouble makers might be violating copyright, or ignoring paid editor requirements. So if you want to keep any text, please check if it is neutral and correct. The missing films of that 1000 likely didn’t have a reference or article written about them and thus aren’t listed. Therefore, the list will likely never have 1000 films listed. It isn’t ridiculous in size as other video editing programs like Final Cut Pro also have long lists of the software’s use in major feature films. Wikipedia already has a similar list with reliable sources on the Blackmagic Fusion Wikipedia article. However, this new list is relating to DaVinci Resolve rather than simply Blackmagic Fusion’s use in feature films. Planetary differentiation article is poorly referenced and so could do with much improvement. Personally I think they could be two different topics as you say the planetary differentiation is much more general. THat could include planets very different to Earth. Well I have undid that change. What I can do is not make it change with a capital N inside. I always manually check if the edit is sane. In this case where it was a ref name I thought it was OK as long as it was consistent. But if people care then I don't have to let it happen. Hi Graeme. A while I back I posted Wikipedia:Village pump (technical)/Archive 154#ListeriaBot adding non-free images to Wikipedia namespace page, Wikipedia:Village pump (technical)/Archive 158#Lysteria bot and shadowing and Wikipedia:Village pump (technical)/Archive 159#Lysteria bot and shadowing to see what could be done about this. I even asked the bot's operator about this at User talk:Magnus Manske/Archive 6#Non-free images being added by Lysteria bot, but never got a response. The bot is at it again, this time adding File:Frank Tashlin.jpg to User:Gamaliel/Billy Ireland. Basically what's happening as explained at User talk:JJMC89#File:Frank Tashlin.jpg is that JJMC89's bot keeps correctly removing the file and LysteriaBot keeps incorrectly re-adding it. Hi, I noticed several edits for "µ → μ" in the context of units. The first "µ" (U+00B5) has Unicode name micro sign, and the later "μ" (U+03BC) has Unicode name greek small letter mu. WP:MOS recommends the Greek letter for this use. U+00B5 is deprecated. Initially I was confused as those two characters look very similar on the screen, but a find in the browser would not find the alternate, but a Wikipedia search found both, and a wikilink automatically changes it to the Greek letter. Recently I started to use AWB to find micro signs. However perhaps it is not worthwhile to change them when there is nothing else to fix in the page, as the look of the page is the same. There are still 2351 pages with occurrences of "µm" (micrometer) to go! You can expect that the typo team will eventually change them all. Hi,

I'm not sure where to start, so decided to call upon your help. There is a province in the Netherlands which is wrongly being called "Friesland" for a very long time. I'm trying to edit pages with any reference, stating the official name is "Fryslân", but I have noticed it's literally all over (references to flags, other pages, etc.). Even though the province is called Friesland by many people, the real name is Fryslân. It's like we would make a "Holland" page for the Netherlands. Just because it's common to use a name, doesn't make it right.

For your reference, the official page of the Fryslân government page, which lets you choose Dutch or Frisian as your language. Note that Fryslân doesn't change (!), but everything else in the text does. Why not? Because it's the name of the province. I don't mind footnotes which state is commonly used or mostly referred to as Friesland or even "Friesland in Dutch", but the official links should be correct, right? I always like Wiki to give factual correct information, but don't know how to change the reference pages...

This is English Wikipedia, so we use English language names for things, which are not necessarily the local names. And you can also see

WP:Official name which expands this. Eventually it may change. However there is not really an "â" symbol in the English alphabet, so don't expect it to be adopted like that. It's been a few years since I edited here. Something that bothers me is how some redirects are deleted outright (e.g. Volvagia). In my opinion, the page could be re-restored and re-redirect to something more appropriate rather than be outright deleted. Anyway, I see that you're on the Category:Wikipedia administrators willing to provide copies of deleted articles list, and i was wondering if you could either restore Volvagia's edit history or give to me as an XML. I am making a Zelda Wiki, and deleted Wikipedia articles could greatly help (especially if i can copy them and attribute to wikipedia). @Ferret: It would be better if we have this discussion on your talk page, but on the relevant topic, I did indeed note that after the discussion was opened the general consensus is to wait until E3 for specs and to avoid speculation cruft being added to the article, I clearly said that, in fact I somewhat agree. Since there was no AfD nor a comment left on the deletion page, an editor who has not previously dealt with the topic (i.e. me) would be unaware a discussion was requested. Hi. I see you've deleted File:3Coffins.jpg as an as an allegedly invalid fair-use claim. It was no doubt bot-tagged because a fair use image showing the UK first edition already appears in the article, and the bot thought that this was a second image showing the same thing. But this picture actually shows the historically-significant US first edition, which is quite different and even has a different title. Thanks for putting the chembox on the Color Developing Agent articles. I added them so that I could link them from the appropriate articles, and realizing that even the simplest part of the chemistry wasn't in the other articles. I actually did E6 processing when I was in college 40 years ago, and I remember looking up the names on the box, especially the color developer which is, pretty much, the most important part. Hi Graeme! Regarding - link naming You're right (and I'm aware of the fact) that the name of the article itself is contested. But in fact "2019-20 Wuhan coronavirus outbreak" is imprecise, as it is not clear whether it refers to an outbreak of a coronavirus in Wuhan (years 2019-20), or to an outbreak (wherever) of a virus named Wuhan coronavirus (years 2019-20). "Novel coronavirus" is unambiguous in this context, so for me the obvious choice.

In jawiki, last column of List of exoplanets discovered in 2020 is "Reference" instead of "Remarks". I suggest the references are more helpful for readers, therefore in enwiki the last column of corresponding lists should be also "Remarks and references". Collapse notes

Can you collapse notes for the template(COVID)? The chart gets unnecessarily large on computer, which looks a bit overwhelming. Well, on my computer, its length increases by 2 or maybe 3 times the width when note is shown. After some point, this happened. The width should not change with or without collapse. Collapsing renders the notes inoperative, so it should be expanded by default, and better without that complicated code. Queensland Government crest

Hey there! I saw that you marked the modern Queensland Government crest in the public domain? I don't think that's the case, as this make of the crest/publication and adoption of this version of the crest is quite a bit more modern and was definitely not made in the 1800s (I don't think SVG files and sans-serif fonts where huge back then hahahaha). This design was made the brand logo for the Queensland Government in 2012

It is definitely a derivative of the original 1893 coat of arms. So the image itself is public domain. It doesn't matter if it was published in the United States or not as copyright expired in 1943 before the URAA date. However it probably was published in the US prior to 1923, but I won't look for evidence. But as you say the .svg is not in the same copyright status. You can see the comment I made on the file. FYI, {{AfC postpone G13}} is not a speedy deletion template. Rather it is added to AfC drafts during an edit made solely to reset the G13 clock, such as for a "promising" draft nearing (or beyond) a G13 deadline. It takes one parameter, the number of times G13 has been postponed for that draft. When I do a refund of a draft deleted under G13, I typically replace the db-g13 template with {{AfC postpone G13|1}}, to help indicate that the G13 clock has been restarted. Hi there I have already reported this page to copyright investigation. The background section was infringing I rewrote parts but I'm concerned it is still very close to the original source. The website does not work correctly with our tool but if you read it both the structure and much of the text are the same not just the quote. I left a tag to notify of this but revision deletion will be needed for the infringing material. It is still better to rewrite as even now it verges on plagiarism. white powder

No picture of a white powder (or colourless crystal) carries any information that is unique to a named chemical substance. The description "white" applies to a powder of any colourless substance. The issue is verifiability. It cannot be verified that a picture of a white powder is of a particular substance. It also applies to colourless crystals as the morphology of a crystal is determined by its point group, which cannot be unique for a particular substance. There are a few apparent exceptions like cubes/octahetdra of cubic crystals or plates/rods of tetragonal and orthorhombic crystals, that may merit discussion in the article body. The WP discussion that you cite does not properly address the issue. "Good faith" is not acceptable in relation to a picture as it can never be verified. Context. There has been some discussion about nonmetal categories at WP:ELEMENTS.

I suspect most active members of that project (including me) would agree to divide the reactive nonmetals i.e. the nonmetals other than the noble gases, into two relatively clear and self-descriptive categories. However, since the WP periodic table was created, we haven't found a good way of doing this.

I caveat the expression "relatively clear" by what we say in our periodic table article:

"Placing elements into categories and subcategories based just on shared properties is imperfect. There is a large disparity of properties within each category with notable overlaps at the boundaries, as is the case with most classification schemes."

That said, didactically speaking, the use of "natural" classes or clusters to organise information supports content processing.

In Wikipedia history, the categories of "other nonmetals" and halogens are the two most enduring nonmetal categories used in our periodic table. That was until we started complaining about what a non-informative category name "other nonmetals" was.

Now, the halogen category is consistent with the traditional aspect of teaching the periodic table by contrasting the alkali metals with the halogens.

Long story short, we don’t currently have a halogen category because we weren't able to satisfactorily characterise the other nonmetals as something other than {other nonmetals}. So we decided that they and the halogen nonmetals would collectively be the reactive nonmetals.

Developments. A couple of articles in the peer-reviewed literature have prompted me to revisit this question. The first is "Metals are not the only catalysts", in Nature. The second is "Organising the metals and nonmetals", in Foundations of Chemistry (disclaimer: 1, authored by me; 2, the scheme I propose is not the same as that in this article).

The upshot is that the other nonmetals can be characterised by their:

1. tendency to form covalent or polymeric compounds;
2. prominent biological roles;
3. proclivity to catenate i.e. form chains or rings;
4. multiple vertical, horizontal and diagonal relationships;
5. uses in, or as, combustion and explosives;
6. uses in organocatalysis; and
7. dualistic Jekyll (#2) and Hyde (#5) behaviours

The first six properties of the nonmetals in this part of the periodic table are documented in the literature. #7 is an observation by me.

Coactive. In light of properties 1, 3, 4 and 6, I suggest the term "coactive nonmetals" would be a good way of referring to the other nonmetals. The remaining nonmetals (F, Cl, Br, I) then become the halogen nonmetals, thus restoring the pre-eminence of this category. Here, we show astatine as a post-transition metal since condensed astatine is expected to be a full-fledged FCC metal.

"Coactive" means, "acting in concert; acting or taking place together". That seems like a good adjective wrt the covalent compounds of H, C, N, O, P, S and Se. For their polymeric compounds, e.g. of H, N, O or S, the connection is to the linked nature of their repeating structural units. That is how the literature tends to deal with the nonmetals, except that it has no common term for the first category. There is also the catalytic conation of "coactive".

The literature. Bear in mind the expression coactive nonmetals is not found in the literature.

That said, the complementary term "coactive metal" is found in literature, in the following senses:

• "…adding a coactive metal (such as Pt, Ir, or Rh metal)"
• "The same set of experiments was performed in presence of other co-active metal ions Fe +2, Fe +3, Co +2, Ni +2, Mn +2, Cd +2, Ca +2, Mg +2…".
• "It is of great interest and challenging to improve new catalysts that consist of any of those components and new active metal component (ie co-active metal, promoter)."

There are several other references in the literature to "co-active" elements, materials or substances, including manganese, iron, nickel, cobalt and plutonium.

In the endeavours by WP:ELEMENTS to nail the other nonmetals, we will have now gone full circle from the original {other nonmetals and halogens} → {polyatomic nonmetals and diatomic nonmetals} → {reactive nonmetals}. Now we have a putative categorisation scheme for going from {reactive nonmetals} → {coactive nonmetals} and {halogen nonmetals} that would fulfil the worthy intentions of our predecessors.

Question: Is "coactive nonmetal" a neologism or is it a descriptive phrase, c.f. "coactive metal"? If there are coactive metals does this suggest there are coactive nonmetals? The other nonmetals category is well enough seen in the literature. The covalent-polymeric, biological, catenative, interlinked, combustive/explosive, and organocatalytic properties of the nonmetals in this part of the periodic table are documented in the literature. Historically, and as noted, the "other nonmetals" category is the most enduring nonmetal category used in the Wikipedia periodic table, until we started complaining about what a non-informative category name this was. Do we now have enough content, in pursuit of a better encyclopedia, to support a change back to a binary categorisation of the nonmetals as coactive (formerly other) nonmetals, and halogen nonmetals? ♦

@Sandbh: this is the first time I heard of "coactive", but it I see that this word was used by Shakespeare. Lo, wikt:coactive exists but there's no wikt:coactive metal. So for me this is a neologism. ANd there are no Google hits. I don't think it would be useful as a categorisation scheme as people will not know what the term means. Categories are supposed to be a defining characteristic of the item, and used to find similar types of articles. Since few have used the term "coactive nonmetal", it may not even notable enough for its own article. Perhaps there is enough written to have an article on non-metal polymers or chains, or more generically the topology. Compared to the others "H" would be more similar to the halogens though. As categorisation, it may not matter, as the nonmetal category is not that large, and going by groups like chalogenide or pnictide is adequate for my use. One thing that would be useful, and may even be there already is a "related" section which says what elements are similar, and why. For the elements project, it appears there is difficulty finding consensus as many have strong justified opinions. Thank you Graeme. You raise some good points, and get to the nub of the matter.

The real issue is the gap, in classification science terms. By this I mean the metals start out loud and proud, as alkali metals; alkaline earth metals; Ln/An; transition metals; and post-transition metals. Then there are the reasonably well established metalloids, even though their boundary can move around a bit. When it comes to the first of the really well recognised nonmetals there is a train wreck of classification science. They could as well be called the no-name nonmetals. Then follow the well-known halogen nonmetals; and the noble gases.

A Google Scholar search for “co-active metal/s” yields several hits. I guess a chemist who saw "coactive nonmetals" might wonder what they are if unfamiliar with the "coactive" adjective. They might look up coactive in a dictionary, or they might look at the nonmetal article, and see we are referring to the erstwhile “other nonmetals". At which point they might say, ah the term is unfamiliar, but the category, as other nonmetals, is. Now I get it. Much better than "other" which coveys nothing obvious about the characteristics involved.

Yes, the nonmetals can be traversed by groups 1, 14, 15, 16, 17 and 18; or via three categories.

Coactive nonmetals may be a rare case that meets the exception provided for by our neologism policy…

”In a few cases, there will be notable topics which are well-documented in reliable sources, but for which no accepted short-hand term exists. It can be tempting to employ a neologism in such a case. Instead, it is preferable to use a title that is a descriptive phrase in plain English if possible, even if this makes for a somewhat long or awkward title.”

…and perhaps warrants a touch of WP:BOLD.

As you noted, the phrase "coactive nonmetal" isn't in the literature. The closest link is that the coactive nonmetals have (organo-)catalytic applications; that coactive is a synonym for catalytic; and that coactive encompasses the various other synergic aspects of the coactive nonmetals.

There is a further pleasing link to the nature of the nonmetals involved in that a subtle meaning of "other" is "existing besides". Synonyms for "besides" include "in conjunction with" (here “conjunctive” means, "relating to or forming a connection or combination of things"); “conjointly"; and "jointly".

In summary, while the category concerned already exists it’s let down by its non-defining-characteristic name. It seems like a small step from “other” to “coactive”. That one sounds self-explanatory. However do the non-metals need to be further sub-categorised? I could imagine when organising binary chemical compounds we could have hydrides, halogenides, oxides, other chalcogenides, and the rest as pre-calcogenides (incl pnictides, carbides, silicides, and borides). Further sub-categorisation: Introductory inorganic chemistry is traditionally taught by contrasting the alkali metals with the halogens. Currently, we mush the halogen nonmetals into the same category as the other nonmetals.

In the literature of concern the focus is on navigating the periodic table. The basic approach is metal-nonmetals or metals-metalloids-nonmetals. From there, the metals are chunked into e.g. alkali and alkaline earths, lanthanoids and actinoids; transition metals; and post-transition metals. On the nonmetal side of chunking, the halogens are stand-outs, as are the noble gases. The remaining non-metals are classification science poor cousins. I suspect this arises from them not having a unifying term "other" than "other", which sounds like it's just the grab-bag of what doesn't have any other unifying theme ("everything that isn't something else in particular"). This is odd as all of the shared characteristics of interest are in the literature, including for hydrogen.

Great work on producing the list of chemical databases. As you know, I've added a couple of bits of information for what I think will be a very useful resource.

On my browser and desktop PC, the current list is way too wide, mainly because of the link column. By using {{cite web}} tags instead, it's easy to reduce the size of that column, as seen in my sandbox "here".. You could even surround them with ref tags to duplicate everything within the Reflist, although personally I think that's not needed for a list page like this. If you like this idea, I'll happily incorporate it into the main article. Another couple of suggestions: a) I don't think that the ID column adds much useful information and it could be deleted and b) what did you intend should go into the "review" column? @Michael D. Turnbull: I think it is a good idea to compact the url column. Though I am unconvinced by some of the titles used in the sandbox. access sort of makes sense, but "limited access" with a link is a bit confusing. Limited access meant that you had to satisfy some condition to register, eg be in the UK, or be an academic, but not commercial user. Pay to view means that you can do a search to see that a record exists, but you only get to see the content if you pay up. The quotes on those titles are just wasting space though. Another term might be "search", if it is a search page. The id column was to identify the prefix of identifiers used. So for example if you see an id of "CPD0000000" it probably comes from the ModelSeed database. The review column was supposed to point to a reference that talked about the content of the database, ie reviewed the database. I don't know how to avoid the quote marks, as they seem to be a feature of the way that {{cite web}} works and you can't leave out the title or you get a red "missing or empty title" error. Why not "sulphur"?

It used to be spelled that way, but in scientific articles we now use "sulfur" in all English language variants. You are misrepresenting the claim on my user page. Anyway the situation is described at

Nihaal The Wikipedian: I have fixed Methyl hexanoate, I hope. I fixed a heading, used * on the beginning of each list entry, and move the reference into the body, that is simpler. Also I used the wrong parameter name for FlashPtF, now fixed. What is taxonbar for? It sounds like a living organism thingy. P V Vartak as RS or not

Can you please take a look at my talk on Rigveda with Joshua Jonathan and others? My question is if an author has their books translated and published by independent publishers (you can see examples on "article for deletion page on Vartak") how is he not acceptable as RS?
