Despot, a title of Serbian medieval prince Stefan Lazarević
. As of 2022 census, the town has a total population of 3,595, while the municipality has a population of 18,278.
History

From 1929 to 1941, Despotovac was part of the Morava Banovina of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia.
